The ambiance is really nice, but the food has gone downhill a lot. The fries were just rubbish, and the Baerhap was a child's portion. What a shame.🫤

Once a favorite address, now a big disappointment For over ten years, De Babbelaar has been my first and last stop on holiday - several times a year, always satisfied, always recommended. Unfortunately, this has changed fundamentally after the renovation this year. **What has changed?** - The menu has been significantly slimmed down, many of my favorite dishes are missing. - The food doesn't taste like it used to. The fries are particularly disappointing: they used to be a real highlight, but are now barely edible. They no longer look like fresh potato fries, but taste bland and artificial. - The other dishes on the new menu were also not convincing in terms of taste. The quality has deteriorated significantly. - Prices have risen massively. Compared to other restaurants in the area, De Babbelaar is now one of the most expensive providers - but the service is not up to par. **Previously: My insider tip – today: No longer recommended** I have always been happy to recommend De Babbelaar and have taken many friends there. I won't do that anymore from now on. To be honest, the changes spoiled my short vacation because I always looked forward to the visit. Apparently now only the money counts, not the satisfaction of the guests. **Conclusion:** After so many years as a loyal guest, I no longer go there and unfortunately I can no longer recommend De Babbelaar to anyone. It's a shame how such a beautiful restaurant can turn into the opposite in a short time.

We ordered to be picked up and therefore can't say anything about the service and ambience. However, the food we picked up was a big disappointment. The schnitzel was an indefinable plate and could have been anything. All in all, the burgers were okay but nothing more, but the fries were really disappointing. Both the "French Fries Sauce" and the fries themselves were completely tasteless - a shame!

De Babbelaar used to have delicious home-cut fries. Hence our visit. Not anymore. Factory fries and kibbeling with lots of batter and little coalfish. Which should actually be cod.

Wij hadden pech; namen er een speciaal biertje en brood met smeersels. Ciabatta taai, bruin brood ‘opgepiept’. Zijn maar verkast voor hoofdgerecht. Terras met veel mensen aan bakjes frites, niet echt sfeer.

Ham and cheese sandwich is expensive, at least I would have had a small bowl of curry or tomato ketchup for those pennies.

A fast food shop. Everything newly furnished. The prices are grossly overpriced. If you order in the restaurant, you will still receive disposable or disposable tableware. Something like that doesn't fit the times and I think given the prices you could be more sustainable with crockery and normal cutlery.

Last year large portions and delicious. No longer recommended after the renovation. Small portions at big prices. Fries were very greasy. It's a shame, we always enjoyed being there.

The renovation is not an improvement for us. Previously it was just a good and cozy restaurant with a separate chip shop. Now it is a glorified chip shop with a children's paradise. You can still present good food, but the stew, spare ribs and cheeseburger were mediocre. Shame…..

The food is nothing to complain about, but the atmosphere has changed after the renovation. Also inconvenient with ordering now. It now seems more like a McDonalds Premium (the food is of better quality, but the atmosphere is similar). There is now a ball corner for the children on the ground floor. When it's busy they run straight through the whole place. So no progress and a lot of noise/screaming. It would have been better to leave them on the first floor. Anyone who cannot tolerate this would be wise to pick up fries or go to a traditional chip shop.

A newly furnished (fast-food) restaurant. Great atmosphere and really big portions. We had Kibbelinge with fries. Really delicious.

Don't make the mistake of ordering from the ordering machine! Then you are no longer allowed to sit down and have to eat the food in the car or eat on the street! There were 5 men in the kitchen who took a whopping half an hour to prepare 2 burgers! And the place was almost empty! But maybe the other guests all had to eat outside and that's why it was so empty 😂 The quality of the burgers! Simple standard! But the quality is supposed to be better if you pay more and are allowed to eat in the restaurant with privileges! Sometimes you can only wonder!

Delicious food in a pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, price/performance ratio OK.

Great food, cool ambience! We were even able to sit outside in the lots of October sunshine and enjoy the delicious food. Really good service, great value for money.

Let's face it, you don't go to an eatery with an almost homely name like De Babbelaar to expect culinary delights. But a decent meal? That hope is still alive in Oostkapelle. Last night I went with my family to this establishment, where the Zeeland veal burger — a promising regional dish — is on the menu. Reality turned out to be an illusion. The burger itself had the consistency of those little meatballs you find in a microwave version of spinach stew. One of those burgers that you chew with the feeling that the meat could beg you for help at any moment, not fully cooked and without the slightest hint of spice or character. As if the calf had lived exclusively on a diet of unseasoned cardboard during its lifetime. And then that salad, which looked so timid and modest. A wallflower of a dish, stirred from a refrigerator life that had lasted far too long. Fresh? Not at all. Perhaps the only fresh thing about that salad was the memory of a time when vegetables still tasted like something. What was left was a limp, lifeless pile of greenery that you would rather bury than eat. But, let it be said, the fries… they were excellent. Golden brown and crispy, as if the potatoes themselves were having a little party in the frying oil. And the mayonnaise? Creamy, just the right balance between sour and soft, almost poetic in its simplicity. So good, in fact, that I briefly thought about just forgetting about the rest of the meal and just focusing on the fries and mayo. In short, De Babbelaar turned out to be more of a place where you would want to keep quiet about the food than chat about it.

The restaurant consists of a “cafeteria” and a restaurant. You can sit outside and it's very comfortable, but it's a bit noisy when there are a lot of cars driving past. We went to the restaurant, where the food is more upscale. You can feel this at the end when you pay. The food was tasty but nothing special. What I found to be a shame was that the sauces/dips were served in plastic bowls. The service was on point and there immediately when you needed something. As we were leaving we saw that there was different food in the “cafeteria”. Especially pizza, burgers, etc.

Incredibly good food! We ordered two breads. One with chicken and the other with salmon and tuna. Very nice staff. Some speak German and English well.

Bei De Babbelaar handelt es sich angeblich um die beste Imbissbude in ganz Zeeland. Bestätigen kann ich das nicht, denn ich war ja nur bei einer Bude, aber gut vorstellen kann ich es mir. Der Laden unterteilt sich in ein Restaurant (rechts) und eine Cafeteria/Imbiss (links) und ist grundsätzlich zu jeder Tageszeit voll. Ich war in der Cafeteria und daher bezieht sich meine Bewertung auch nur auf allerlei aus der Fritteuse. Alleine die Menge der Pommes, die auf der Ablage hinter der Fritteuse warten, machen einem klar, dass hier ordentlich was durchgeht. So kommen auch die ganze Zeit Touristen und holen sich vorbestelltes Essen in braunen Papiertüten ab. Die Speisekarte zeigt alles, was das frittierte Herz begehrt. Ich mag besonders den kleinen Touchscreen, wo man in Ruhe durch die Speisekarte sehen kann und sich alles bestellt, was man meint essen zu können. Trotz viel Betrieb brummt der Buzzer für das Essen recht schnell. Vom Essen selbst kann man nichts Schlechtes sagen. Die Pommes sind perfekt frittiert (es fehlt nur an Salz) und auch Kipkorn, Frikandel & co schmecken lecker. Bei einem Besuch auf Zeeland sollte man De Babbelaar nicht verpassen. Empfehlung: Frittes mit Joppiesaus, Frikadel speciaal, vegetarische Kroket, Kaassouflé, Kipcorn

Very friendly and fast service. The Belgian tightener Hendrik has a lot to offer but is super tasty. It's better to drink it after eating! Fish & Chips are a hit! Gladly again.

Unfortunately, the ambience deducted 2 stars due to the toilet. But the food was great and you could sit well.

Came back here for dinner for the third time. Every time the service and food was excellent!! Extremely friendly and attentive service. The mussels were tastefully prepared! We will definitely stop by again next time we are in the area :)

The shop "De Babbelaar" offers a so-called cafeteria on the one hand and a classic restaurant on the other. I tested both. Actually, the only thing that connects the two shops is the name - the food is clearly different. The cafeteria offers a large selection of fast food from fries, burgers, fries, kibbeling to schnitzel, everything is there. The burgers are okay but not a taste experience. The fries, on the other hand, are very tasty and are definitely among the best in Oostkapelle and the surrounding area. The restaurant, on the other hand, delivers a very tasty burger! The fries were also perfect and nice and crispy👍You can sit outside there and have a good view of the chapel. The only point of criticism in my opinion is that the prices are far too high. The burger was very good, but at more than 20€ (without drink) per portion, it was also a bit expensive. If you want something fancier to eat, you should go to the restaurant, but if you want to enjoy delicious fries after a day at the beach, the cafeteria is perfect for you!

1.5 weeks ago Got fries and snacks, they were delicious. Today for 6 people. And 2 children ordered for almost €70.00, unfortunately this time it was bad, the fresh fries seemed to have been fried 3 times, all hard, shriveled fries. The frikadellen were now also dry because they had been fried for too long, and the onions on the bear bite looked as if they had been cremated. And the Big Burger I ordered was a normal Burger. Pity.

How to wait in the fast food part of the restaurant: fries were ok, the schnitzel was tough and not recommended, the spicy burger was very tasty

5 waiters at the entrance, none of whom can say hello. We were ignored at first. Drinks were ordered upon request. I was allowed to get the children's chair myself. When I asked that the table be wiped again, the answer was "that's clean". The table was not wiped down. The first and last time.

Excellent restaurant. The staff was very kind which resulted in a very pleasant atmosphere. The kids (twins of 4) were given a useful gift with their kids menu, mussels were delicious, my son found the steak very tasteful, the chips were tasty and my wife enjoyed the plaice filet. So a well deserved 5/5.

The carpaccio was surprising because of the addition of ingredients that were not obvious to me. But tasty.

The food is delicious and the service is nice and friendly. We eat here every year during our vacation. The cheeseburger is also very good, with a proper minced meat patty and bacon.

Average snack bar where I often received wrong orders, paid for things I did not order (3x loaded fries - 61.-!), 9 boys stood quietly with their arms folded while the line stretched all the way to the street. No, in the future I will drive to the forest tent for fries, fries and fish a little further away.

Don’t compare the food here with frikandel or stuff you can get everywhere. Maybe it is a difference if you order snacks outside. We were inside the Restaurant in the back. Service was very good! Very friendly! Nice, relaxed atmosphere. The place to eat in Oostkapelle (specially if you like to get good vegetarian food)!!!

We eat there all year round. The portions are good and tasty. But we've found that quality suffers greatly when there's a lot going on. Yesterday the fish was dry and the fries were lukewarm...

1A chip shop. The fries are not too greasy and have a good potato flavor. Nice and crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside. There is also a great selection of sauces. The favorite is the Joppie sauce. If you're in the area, you should eat fries here.

In many years of Zeeland, we have never had such bad kibbeling anywhere as in this snack bar. Very thick, tough and bland batter around a little dry fish. As you know from frozen products: a lot of dough, little fish. Completely different from the crispy kibbeling with juicy, fresh fish as we know it. It's a shame about money and vacation time.

This is our chip shop, which we visit first when we are in Holland. Food is always good. Price too. The chip shop is a real fast food joint where you can just eat something. Not more. I haven't been to the restaurant that comes with it yet. The ambience is much better

De Babbelaar Snackbar is a large snack bar. It is very modern and you can order at the table via an app. Of course you can also order in person at the counter. The service is friendly and quick. You get the usual electronic beeper to find out when your order is ready to be picked up at the counter. Our order was ready quickly and we enjoyed the typical Dutch snack bar food. Great snack bar.

Compared to the past, I unfortunately have to say that it is all a bit less now. Smaller menu specialties from the chef have disappeared. Another pleasant dinner.

The fries and frikandel special were very tasty! Absolutely to suggest. The seating was also very comfortable. The ambience can be described as typical of a snack bar - but is characterized by an above-average ambience style. The snack bar is two floors.

Warme inrichting, prima bediening, eten matig. Roodbaars was prima maar de saus en groenten garnituur, te gaar en niet vers naar mijn idee. onder de maat. Vooral de saus sloeg de plank helemaal mis.

Only went briefly for a cup of coffee with apple pie. Didn't like the apple pie. Could be due to the time I was there, in the middle of winter almost no tourism so very quiet and peaceful.

Alles wie gehabt, Essen schnell und heiß serviert, sehr große Speisekarte mit allerhand "lokaler" Spezialitäten. Neu und bemerkenswert für uns: die glutenfreie Frikandel! Mit Soße geschmacklich wenig anders als die klassische, für Allergiker also bestens geeignet (Soja enthalten). Allergene sind zwar nicht auswendig aus dem Kopf abrufbar, aber die Liste war gleich griffbereit ohne Suchaktion. Klare Empfehlung, für uns seit Jahren DIE Anlaufstelle, wenn wir in der Ecke sind!

Unser Margarita-Pizza was eher und weich. Die Fritten waren jetzt auch nichts besonderes. Man kann hier auf jedenfall schnell was essen aber muss nicht unbedingt sein. Parkplätze gibt es wenige, verteilt. Ca. 5-10 Min Fussweg

Typisch niederländische Snacks, lecker. Reichlich Platz im Außenbereich. Modernes Bestellsystem.

Ein schöner Ort zum verweilen. Ein Stern Abzug, weil die Lokalität direkt an der Hauptstraße liegt. Das Mobiliar ist ebenfalls in die Jahre gekommenen. Trotzdem ist die Lokalität empfehlenswert

Sehr interessante Menükarten. Perfekte Qualität und Präsentation. Sehr netter und schneller Service. Jedes Menü war exzellent....immer gerne wieder.

Mooi sfeervol restaurant in het centrum van Oostkapelle. Ruim terras voor de zaak met uitzicht op de fraaie kerk. Mijn kroketten waren echte ambachtelijke kroketten gemaakt door slagerij Wisse uit Meliskerke. Anders van vorm dan de traditionele kroketten maar erg lekker en goed gevuld met stukjes rundvlees.

Toevallig terechtgekomen. Mooi terras, vlotte bediening. Enkel dessert gegeten, trifle, en die was meer dan in orde. Gaan zeker terug om meer te proeven

Een goed restaurant voor lunch en diner. Goede kwaliteit en zeer vriendelijk personeel. Zeker een aanrader om een keer te gaan eten.

Nach wie vor ist das Essen lobenswert. Leckere Speisen in guter Qualität. Leider ist der Service verbesserungswürdig. Hier scheint es öfters an der Motivation zu fehlen. Das ist aber in der heutigen Zeit ein generelles Thema.

Een drankje gedronken en een soepje gegeten voor late lunch. Was prima. Leuk terras, soepjes waren lekker.

Die Spareribs sind hervorragend. Am Service könnte man noch arbeiten.
