Three of their own Belgian beers on tap. Each beer had a signature glass and mat. Beers were perfectly to style and served by a courteous, energetic bartender. He even arranged for take-out of the triple as gifts for friends.

Super cozy, delicious toasts and wonderful coffee

Last Friday night, we had wine and dinner at De Brabantse Aap. The wine was excellent, and the nachos were delicious. There was a lot of cheese and chili sauce to make it creamy. We were comfortable, but it was very crowded inside with some noisy/shouting groups. We had trouble hearing each other at times, and the restrooms weren't very clean either, possibly due to the busy evening. A great place to sit!

It had great reviews so I decided to go. I ordered a beer and something that looked like a croquette. The croquette had a slight curry flavor. The thin outer coating was crispy and delicious. The restrooms are on the second floor, and a few more steps up, on the right. The kitchen appears to be on the second floor, but there are lots of adorable stuffed monkeys on display in a display case on the left. There were also pictures of monkeys dressed as men and women in the men's and women's restrooms, which were very heartwarming. The restroom cubicles were also spacious. Even though it was cold in winter, there were people drinking on the terrace outside. I think this is a really nice restaurant.

Good location, good service and pretty good food.

After a walking tour, we were looking for a place to enjoy a local beer and an authentic bite to eat, and De Brabantse Aap was the perfect find in the heart of Amsterdam. We sat at the bar, and had a great experience. Our bartender was very attentive and helpful-she guided us in choosing an appetizer sampler and a light beer for me. My husband opted for the Delirium beer, which is perfectly named because it’s very potent! The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. We didn’t even realize at first that the pub was monkey-themed, but after looking around a bit we noticed monkeys everywhere, which added a fun touch. It’s a great place, and we’ll definitely be back again.

Great service and delicious food!

I went there to have a beer and some fries, but the couple at the next table ordered steaming bread, so I searched the menu and ordered the beer bread! The warm bread, spread with butter, was delicious. It paired well with beer. They even served different glasses for each beer, so it was delicious and enjoyable.

The way the staff (particularly a middle-aged man) communicates the house rules is extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. Even when a customer is unaware of a rule, it's unacceptable to address them in a derogatory and rude manner. The lack of understanding, customer friendliness, and empathy was immediately apparent. This gave me the strong impression that De Brabantse Aap is insufficiently open to diversity and struggles to treat customers with different backgrounds or perspectives respectfully.

We arrived there to have a beer, but they didn’t send us outside. Instead, they directed us to sit at the bar, even though there were still available seats.

The food is amazing, make sure to try the fries! The cappucino I had was also one of the best ever, just a little small. Servers are super nice. It can get quite loud though.

Good food, good service and it’s a cozy place. They have burgers (beef & chicken), some great beers from The Netherlands, United States and more, and there’s a lot of seating indoor & outdoor. The burger was good, the fries were okay.

We had a lovely lunch on the terrace. The table was small for three people at lunch, but the food was good. The service was also pleasant and fast.

Welcoming, with excellent service and a good selection of beers at decent prices, it allows you to enjoy the downtown atmosphere and the warmth of a busy but not uncomfortably crowded place. To my surprise, the "smoked chicken" sandwich was just slices of chicken breast with a bit of overcooked egg on top, tomato, and cucumber. I found it rather bland and actually thought it would have a bit more flavor and some chicken pieces. I've had lunch here before, but this was a real disappointment...

Was walking past (London tourists) and saw someone dining there with a sandwich being arriving at their table which looked super enticing! It was a tuna mayo sandwich- doesn’t sound like much but we ordered it too (brown bread) and it was lovely. Had with some chips and some rose. A very good Dutch restaurant with a terrace and a covered area with outdoor access. The service was fast and attentive. The food was excellent. We chose several typical Dutch dishes and a local beef, which was very tender and juicy. On weekends, it's best to book or go early because it's always packed!

We couldn’t decide where to eat and the menu looked good. We ordered the chicken Katsu, pork bao bun, wagyu gyoza and Saikoro beef steak. Everything was delicious.

Quite a disappointing experience. The sandwiches served were actually toast, not at all what we expected. The toilets were in a really unpleasant state, with a lingering odor. The prices were high for the quality offered. It definitely felt like a tourist trap. I do not recommend it; there are much better places in Amsterdam.

We visit Amsterdam 2-3 times every year. This was our favorite cafe/restaurant in Amsterdam. Due to an unpleasant blonde waitress it is no more our favorite place. However the food served there is good.

Dry bread rolls, no sauce or anything creamy. It was also pretty tasteless... the chicken sandwich was dry bread with chicken breast and a boiled egg... very mediocre. Service was quick, though.

I was the only white person in the group and my friends were accused by the wait staff for dining and not paying “a few hours before when we showed up”. After we asked what the people who dined and dashed looked like, the server said, “like these people”. Also, who would dine and dash and return to the same place later that day??

Very friendly service and an absolutely delicious tuna sandwich with fresh bread – just the thing for a quick break. What's especially nice is that the place is dog-friendly, which makes the whole thing even more relaxing. Perfect for sitting outside and watching the hustle and bustle of the city. I'd love to come back!

The fries are fantastic (and the satay too, by the way 😅) The staff is hard-working and structured, and super friendly with a sense of humor! It's almost unbelievable that you can still order in Dutch in the heart of Amsterdam! Whenever I'm in the capital, I'll always stop by!

It's a place for a light, unpretentious lunch. The location is nice, but the terrace is even better. The staff is very attentive, and the food is quick.

We sat here enjoying the sun and enjoyed the beer tasting with apple pie. We were served in Dutch. The tasting was well-organized, with a nice story accompanying each beer. I didn't like three of the four beers, but my father loved them all.

Ok i was eating a kebbab i seat and order the beer, the waitress bringed me the beer and after 5 minutes arrived a waiter telling me very aggressively and impolitely that i cannot eat my food there. I can understand that but they could have told me that before serving my beer. By the way 7 euro for a 33cc can. They put the beer in a paper glass and i had to go. Orrible experience in such a nice city, this place is to boycott.

The service is cartoonishly horrible! We arrived with 5 people. Outdoor tables only seat 3. I looked for a waitperson for a few minutes to ask if we could move tables together but there was no one coming. So my group pushed 2 tables closer to each other. A few minutes later when the waitress arrived, I asked in Dutch if it was ok that we put 2 tables together. "What do you care, you've already done it," she said icily in English for my group to hear. I said in Dutch again that if it was an issue, we could put them back. She tole me it doesn't matter anymore. I said, clearly it does as you seem quite upset. She told me I should have asked first. I explained there was no one to ask when we arrived and so the group slide them together not impacting any other guests. She shook her head and asked us to order. Later, she accidentally spilled a beer on my friend's elderly father. Accidents happen. It soaked his trousers and shoe. "Don't worry, don't worry", she said, "It's no problem." She used a dirty dishrag to try to sop up his trousers. But it was a problem for him with wet beer stained clothes. No apology, no offer for something for his trouble. It's a good spot to sit outside - if you come and be prepared to see Amsterdam service at it's most ridiculous and rude.

A forever classic in Amsterdam with a great location right next to the canal with good people watching opportunities and lots of vibes. They offer a bog selection of beers as well as Dutch ones and snacks. It’s always a pleasure to revisit when possible.

Came in on a whim because it was raining & needed a bite and we were served very quickly. Service was so fast with multiple servers going back and forth but not in any distracting manner, our food and drinks came super quick! Recommend the carpaccio sandwich with brown bread!

It has a very nice atmosphere. When you sit in the corner, you can drink your beer against the ambiance of Amsterdam. It can be funny to watch the crowds. Right by the canal. We bought a beer tasting set. Recommended!

A nice spot in the city center. Food is good. (Standard menu): Burgers, salads, soups, dutch snacks, fries, tostis. So it's definitely a good option for some snacks, food and drinks.

Right from the start, the waiter was confrontational and aggressively unfriendly, seemingly intent on picking a fight. The fries were cold and bizarrely seasoned with oregano, creating a truly awful taste. All the ordered snacks—nuggets, frikandel, kaasoufle, and bitterballen—tasted distinctly "old"; frankly, we are worried about food poisoning. The attempt to pay the bill culminated in another display of extreme rudeness from the waiter; it genuinely seemed as if he was part of a "Karen's" restaurant. I don't know if he was having a terrible day or actively trying to provoke someone, but I absolutely will not be returning. I strongly advise walking a bit further down the street to any of the numerous other bars. One last thing: if you insist on trying this place, ensure you sit indoors, or you will endure deafening Amsterdam trams rumbling by mere feet from your table.

Very disappointed as we were charged much more than the prices displayed on the menu. The burger was advertised on both the menu outside and inside at 14.75 and we were charged 19.50. The chicken skewer with peanut sauce was on the menus at 15.75 and we were charged 20.50. I understand prices do change, but if that is the case all the menus should be updated to show this, or we should be told before ordering. We also were not given an itemised bill before paying, we were just told our total and had a request a receipt after paying so only then did we see what we had been charged. This is unfortunate as the food was lovely, and the service from our waiter was great - fast and easy and they were happy to make the small changes we asked for (I.e. no jalapeños in the nachos). We sat in the covered terrace and it was a nice place to people watch and very relaxed.

A cult restaurant with friendly service. The portions could be a bit larger, but the taste is great and the price is reasonable.

Always cozy. Special beers and snacks excellent. They also have a number of their own beers that can be ordered on a tasting board as small glasses. Furthermore, a wide range, also alcohol-free or vegetarian. Service fast and professional, even when it is really completely full.

We've been here twice. The home-brewed beer is tasty. They also have other beers on tap, like Guinness. We had delicious burgers and extra fries, which were well seasoned. The second time, we had fish and chips. Unfortunately, the fries weren't as seasoned as if you ordered them separately. The chicken skewers with peanut sauce were delicious, though. The service was very friendly and attentive, thank you!

We stopped by this nice restaurant after our day of sightseeing. Very fast and attentive service. Very good value for money. You can sit outside, close to the trams rushing by. Funny and entertaining. We'd love to try it out. We'd come back.

Normally I would never write reviews, even if the place is not nice. After being on this world for 30+ years, this is (sadly enough) without a doubt the worst service I've ever experienced in my life. It's such a shame because the location is very nice, but I won't be coming back here:(
