De Filosoof: Wijnbar - Wine Bar in Wijk 28 Centrum

There are many excellent wine bars in and around The Hague, but none quite takes the cake. Not only is the wine selection diverse and rich (with wines from countries you don't often encounter, yet consistently boasting wonderful flavors), but this exuberant variety is complemented by delicious cheeses and excellent service. Highly recommended!

Great bar with an amazing selection of wines! Great shop too, and the staff there was very helpful and knowledgeable about the wines.

Absolutely amazing place - cozy setting, thoughtful decoration, knowledgeable sommeliers and fantastic selection of wine & cheeses! Do ask your sommelier for the wines/cheeses that are not on the menu, as there are true gems among them. Don't get me wrong tho, the wine selection on the menu is super great too. Do try the Georgian amber wines and thank me later.

Went here on April 5, as wine lovers we thought we would have a nice evening here. Unfortunately, this was severely damaged when our 150 euro gift voucher was refused (the staff did not recognize the voucher and it would otherwise no longer be valid; while the gift voucher was purchased in December 2024 and we even showed a bank statement). We were asked to pay the full bill but to contact the owner Ofran to resolve this issue and it would be fine. Unfortunately it is impossible to get in touch with this Ofran despite multiple emails and phone calls to the wine bar. Everything but customer friendly. Those videos about Shāhnāmah on your Instagram are interesting, but wisdom in business management and communication is hard to find.

The food is very good, as is the wine. But if you are interested in buying a wine and decide against it because of the price, the waiters suddenly become quite derogatory in their facial expressions towards the guest. Absolute no-go.

The food was very tasty, especially the recommended wine. What was really bad is the process when you want to purchase a bottle of wine. The waitress' behavior was condescending when commenting on the price of a bottle of wine. I felt like a second class citizen.

Could the owner contact you as soon as possible in response to various emails about the 150 euro gift voucher? Bought this gift voucher for a friend in December 2024 as a thank you for looking after my cat during my holiday. Girlfriend had a nice evening in your restaurant, but the receipt (card from your store with the amount of 150 euros and with your signature) was not recognized by your staff. My friend had to pay the bill without being able to use the gift voucher, even though she had specially traveled from another city to The Hague to visit De Filosoof because of this gift voucher. It is very annoying that we have been trying to solve this for three weeks by calling and emailing, but so far we have not been able to contact you. We regret this state of affairs.

It’s a gem! 💎 We came for wine and snacks. This place exceeded our expectations. A waiter advised on wine and a plate with selection of meat, cheese, olives…Everything was so good! Top quality. Loved this place.

El bar de vinos Filosoof es una joya escondida en el centro de La Haya, en el Molenstraat, cerca del Palacio de Noordeinde. Con una gran selección de vinos, muchos de Oriente Medio y Asia, no hay problema en pasar una tarde probando algunos de ellos y maridando con algunos quesos y otras delicias asiáticas. Muy recomendable y en mi lista de “gemas escondidas de La Haya”. Recomendaría algunos de los vinos libaneses.

Great little wine bar perfect for spending a relaxed afternoon. Service was lovely, attentive and knowledgeable. Sampled lovely wines from Greece and Hungary. Definitely recommend spending time at this gem of a bar!

Hele fijne avond gehad bij De Filosoof. Heerlijke wijnen en geweldige hapjes. Mooie setting om iets speciaals te vieren. Bediening was ontzettend vriendelijk en gastvrij. Dit zal zeker niet de laatste keer zijn dat we hier heen gaan.

Excellent wine bar and great concept. Main characteristic of this wine bar is the availability of lot of wines from all over the world, in particular they have a good selection of wines of middle east area which are less famous in Europe but good and interesting to try. There is a wide choice of all kinds of wines (red, white, sweet, sparkling...). Wines are arranged in the menu divided country by country. Interesting concept is that, based on the wine you choose, they can prepare for you a cheese board of selected cheese pairing with your wine. Several board options are available. Service is good and relatively quick, they can also provide recommendations for you. Restaurant is elegant but not too formal, exactly as you can expect from a good wine bar. Definitely recommend!

Delicious cheeses, I have made new discoveries! Delicious Parsi wine! Friendly service but still needs some experience. Our mixed plate was missing olives, we had to ask for more. We will definitely come back 🫶🍷👍🏻

If you're in the mood for cold kebab and overcooked dumplings, this is the place to visit. Rumi once said, “Our original food is the Light of God.” If that’s the case, then I suppose cold kebab and pre-packaged lettuce might be the divine interpretation here. On a positive note, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the wine list offers an interesting selection of world wines. However, given the fierce competition in most cities, this place would likely struggle in a larger market. In The Hague, with limited similar options, the one eyed-kings rules. For inspiration, I suggest the owners take a trip to places like Barenjek or Tayyabs to see how it’s done.

Always a great time coming here. We return often. The approach of offering wines from lesser-known wine-producing countries keeps things fun and interesting. The staff are super knowledgeable and I always feel comfortable saying 'surprise me' and know I will get a great wine. The food is fantastic too, with great Afghan dishes.

A huge range of wines from different countries. We were very satisfied with all the wines we were allowed to drink. The Persian dishes surprisingly matched all the wines. The cheeses were divine. Beautiful decor. Good service.

Vinbar, restaurang på en mysig lugn gata. Hundratals viner av olika ursprung många från ovanligare länder. Med många många från ursprungs länder. Alla möjliga att prova per glas! Och så spännande / goda. Dessutom mycket trevlig personal, vänliga, kunniga, personliga. Lycklig det är som får komma hit

Delicious food, we had dumplings, aubergine- best ever and kebab - a bit cold , cheese plate, very nice wine . Surprisingly stylish place with excellent service . Only thing place smell like mold :(

First time I’ve tried Persian wines and I really fell in love with them. Great wine, food and service.

They had a large selection of mostly asian wine, we liked the two we tried. Both stars are for that. The dish we tried was really bad, it was a dumpling filled with undercooked onions and no trace of meat unlike what was mentioned on the menu. Finally, even though the two waiters were nice the guy who seemed like the owner wasn’t friendly. Would not go back.

Super tasty food and surprising wines. But I think they are a bit too busy because I thought the service was less. We got the bill without asking and were not allowed to order coffee. The table had to be passed on to the next guests. It is fine to work with shifts, but inform visitors about this in advance.

My favorite wine bar in the Hague, and that's not at all because I am a fellow former philosophy student. The wine and cheese selection is amazing -- you will find wines all around the world that you can taste by glass! Now that the menu has warm appetizers too they will be the first thing I try the next time I visit. My favorite things about the place is the welcoming atmosphere, and the kind sir, although whose name still unbeknownst to me, who always exquisitely accommodates to our preferences. Usually you will find him working alone and catering to every table with such attention and care!

I haven’t tasted their food yet. So I can’t comment on it. But if their collection has f wines is an indication, it must be amazing. I enjoyed tasting wines from less obvious origins, like North Macedonia and Georgia. Will definitely come back again for the food.

Geweldige wijnbar! Bijzondere en verrassende wijnen uit landen die je in Nederland minder vaak tegenkomt. Ik ben er nu een paar keer geweest en werd telkens verrast door nieuwe mooie wijnen. De bediening is erg vriendelijk en gepassioneerd. Service zoals het hoort: schone glazen, vooraf kunnen proeven en net het stapje extra. Daarnaast de meest fantastische borrelplanken met geweldige kazen, vleeswaren en nootjes. Enorme aanrader!

Had the best aperitivo experience in the Netherlands after being in the country for 2 years. Owner and employees are professional, yes, but kind beyond measure. Service excellent. Tasty and well thought food menu. There’s skills in this place. A must visit for den Haag.

Toffe zaak! Een hele bijzondere en uitgebreide selectie aan wijnen met goede uitleg op de kaart. De man die ons bediende schroomde ook niet alles nog veel beter toe te lichten en had ontzettend veel kennis. Locatie is verder super met een relaxt terrasje voor de deur en een mooi interieur. Stevige prijzen, maar daar krijg je wel iets voor terug.

They forgot our food after 40 minutes which totally sucks! So we had to reorder. Overpriced wine for the micro portions. 2 stars re more than enough for the bar.

Het eten was zeer verrassend en lekker. De wijnkaart is zeer bijzonder. Het interieur is strak. Het team ziet er verzorgd uit. Wij adviseren het aubergine gerecht. En de kazen zijn heerlijk. Het ligt in een hele gezellige straat. Bijzonder concept. Wij wilde een wijn bestellen van 60 euro die was er niet. Hij had een goed alternatief. Die bleek later op de rekening 90,00 te zijn. En dat vonden wij niet fijn. Dat was ver boven ons budget.

Eine außergewöhnliche Weinbar. Es gibt neben persisch-afghanischen Gerichten auch eine Auswahl an sehr guten Käse-, Salami- und Schinkensorten, auch als Platten. Das Weinangebot ist speziell, es werden überwiegend Weine aus Osteuropa und dem nahen Osten angeboten. Die Weinberatung ist professionell, der Service sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Preis-Leistung ist angemessen. Es gibt einige Plätze im Freien und eine angeschlossene Weinhandlung. Unbedingt besuchen!

The wine tasting experience is a must! Excellent wines paired with cheeses and small afghani dishes, and a great introduction to wine tasting by the host if you're new to it.

One of my favorite spots in The Hague. Incredible wine selection, the best cheese plates of any I have tried, super friendly and helpful staff, and such a cool atmosphere.

Eigenlijk zou je deze wijnbar voor jezelf willen houden, niet aan anderen doorvertellen. Zelden in een restaurant op zo'n prettige manier én persoonlijk aandacht én liefde voor het vak, liefde voor alle wijn/spijs meegemaakt. Ook aan de niet-wijndrinkers is gedacht, nog nooit eerder zo'n goede vervanger gekregen als bij de Filosoof. Die liefde was te proeven in alles. We waren met een groep van 6 mensen en waren helemaal gelaafd na alle verwennerij. Niet goedkoop maar iedere euro de moeite waard. Reden om een dag vanuit de andere kant van Nederland naar Den Haag te komen. Tot gauw!

De manière très surprenante la bouteille de vin commandée est arrivé en terrasse déjà ouverte. Comme nous étions invités, nous n'avons pas osé réagir. En tous cas, pas normal pour un bar à vins.

This very special wine bar is a truely amazing place. One of The Hague’s nicest street in the heart of the city centre. Offering wines from all over the globe, but with special attention to the places most of us have not even been to! Moldova, Greece, Latvia, Israel, etc etc. The wine list (per glas!) does not seem to stop. Really a nice new place to visit. Also, the cheese platter was to die for! Perfect!
