De Gele Kanarie - Goudsesingel in Rotterdam Centrum

There is nothing better to do on a sunny summer's day when you get off work around 5 and there's still about 5 hours worth of sun. You're off for a feed with your colleague and your throat is conveniently thirsty. Something that a nice glass of homebrew beer would fix. De Gele Kanarie checks all these boxes, with surprisingly good bar food, predictably good beer and just a chill atmosphere. There's also a bunch of whacky decor of humans with yellow canary heads, which I think is the Dutch name of the joint. I think if you drink enough beer in here you might end up with a yellow canary head yourself. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing who knows.

Good beers and beautiful and super big inside and outside space. Can be very crowded especially in the weekend.

Best place to enjoy a good old beer. If you want the best dutch experience this is home. You came to the netherlands to experience the netherlands. Bitterballen beer yum yum yum. Love the guy in the orange roller skates on kings day.

Service greets you several times but does not come by to take your order. Have to wave for a long time on an almost empty terrace to be helped

try all of tap beers, all are amazing. On the other hand, prices, especially snacks, are expensive considering the taste and amount. Overall, the teras and atmosphere is still great to meet and hangout.

Really loved the vibe and the organization, during a short visit in Rotterdam we went twice. The bar tenders were very fast and attentive. The variety of beers on tap and their own beer was perfect. The snacks were also good. Definitely a good place to come back when it is warm, as there is outdoor sitting.

The food itself was excellent, reflecting the quality and care put into each dish. Combined with the charming ambience, De Gele Kanarie offered a truly memorable evening. What truly stood out was the genuine Dutch spirit of hospitality that permeated the entire experience. Matt's attentiveness and passion for sharing his knowledge made us feel incredibly welcome and valued. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend De Gele Kanarie to anyone seeking an authentic Dutch culinary adventure. In fact, we'd gladly have Matt on our team in the UK – his talent and dedication are truly commendable! Encontramos De Gele Kanarie (El Canario Amarillo) en los mapas de Google mientras hacíamos una parada portuaria en un crucero. Curiosamente estábamos parados justo fuera de ella buscando el Yellow Canary más adelante, sí Google Maps no era muy preciso. El centavo bajó cuando vimos varias fotos de, sí, Yellow Canaries. De todos modos pedimos ver el menú de cerveza y había varias cervezas locales para probar, y probamos todos ellos y tuvimos sus patatas fritas con chile extremadamente agradable cargado. Un joven nos sirvió, hablando muy bien inglés y él era extremadamente entusiasta con la cerveza haciendo de esto unas horas muy agradables.

a bar that I really liked, but that tonight, February 2nd, accepted the misogyny and lack of education of drunks, without being tolerated by the staff. My friends and I left, all the misogynistic drunks are there. Congratulations

The coffee was perfect, the location was so friendly and helpful, I definitely added it to my favorites.

It’s not a good bar if you like good service, having your drinks delivered in less than 15 minutes, and don’t tolerate sexism or xenophobic remarks. It’s incredible how sad it is to see female staff defending these behaviors in a place that should be welcoming.

The staff and the manager are not prepared to work with hospitality.

Ended up here when visiting Rotterdam and had a nice afternoon and tasted some local beers.

One of my favourite places to drink a beer and have some food. They brew their own beers, which are all very good.

This place must be purely for the atmosphere. We ordered, among other things, a snack board, a mocktail, fries with stew. Place orders at the counter. The drinks platter was very mediocre. Yes, there is a lot, but everything in mini bowls. The bread was crispy, but not cut properly, so everyone had their bare fingers touching the bread. Cost of the drinks board estimated at 1.45 euros. What a downer. Fries with stew (beef) was a mockery. We don't believe the staff or chef tasted this themselves, impossible. One piece of beef in a nasty sauce (seriously!). The mango, passion fruit and mint mocktail tasted like diluted fruit lemonade from a carton (this is almost a scam for €7). You won't see us here anymore when it comes to the 'food'.

Encontramos este lugar por accidente. Parece ser un pub, pero la comida era muy buena (y hay algunos niños allí también de nuestro crucero). Las dos funcionarias eran encantadoras y la comida era muy buena - pedimos el plato Borrel y una sopa con algunos fuegos - esto era más que suficiente para las dos! Si alguna vez estamos en Rotterdam volveremos a visitar aquí.

Rotterdam's best terrace and cafe.

Very nice and eventful bar, many selections of games to play with your companions! Very good selection of foods and drinks. The atmosphere is beautiful and a walkable glass into their own brewery. Also, some selections of vegan food, would recommend!

Good beers and variety on the menu. Staff was attentive but not all equally professional/experienced. Unfortunately the food was less. Burgers are quite sparse and dry. Really not worth the money unfortunately. And the cocktails were watery in taste.

Me reuní con un amigo para tomar unas copas en la terraza que está al sol la mayor parte del día, pero también tiene mucha sombra. Tuvimos una gran noche. Hemos estado antes, pero ayer fue especial; nos atendió Danieke que siempre era rápido para venir y tomar nuestras órdenes. Parecía escanear la terraza en busca de clientes que necesitaban servicio, siempre estaba allí muy rápido y nuestras bebidas también siguieron rápidamente después de que había tomado el pedido. Ella era rápida y eficiente y cada vez con una sonrisa feliz. También se dio tiempo para una charla corta y para ser agradable pero sin dejar que otros esperaran. Era increíble.

Disappointing! The staff is extremely disorganized and rude! They forget orders, charge extra, and don't take responsibility for their mistakes. In the end, we had to pay extra for items that never even made it to our table. I was even more surprised when I checked the reviews section and realized that this is apparently quite common. Such a shame.

Wij bezohten de Gele Kanarie aan de Binnenrotte, vlakbij de grote Markthal. Fijn terras voor een drankje. Vriendelijk personeel, toilet zeer netjes. Alleen worden de fluitjes bier steeds kleiner was onze indruk 🥲

Voor het eerst naar de locatie bij de Binnenrotte geweest. Hele fijne plek voor een drankje en een borrelhap. Groot terras en hele correcte bediening

Great vibes. But I was disappointed at the cocktail brunch deal. You pay 25 euros for unlimited cocktails. But there is almost no alcohol. In the end. I felt like I had only mocktails or merely limonades with a lot of ice..

Op zich een leuke omgeving maar wel heel druk toen wij er waren (tijdens de zaterdag markt). Lekker eten diverse drankjes. Er hangt wel een vervelende putlucht op het terras, kan de gele kanarie niks aan doen maar het is wel aanwezig. Bordje carpaccio wordt geserveerd op geroosterd brood, dat vind ik jammer. Het stond niet op het menu vermeld anders had ik gekozen voor niet geroosterd brood. Al met al verder prima maar nu 4 sterren voor de onduidelijkheid van het geroosterd brood.

Amazing place to grab a beer and snacks. The atmosphere is great. A lot of choices of beers. Not far from Rotterdam Blaak, Markthal and Laurenskerk. A variety of board games for the board gamers. A place to be while out with friends.

Overall we had a great day/evening. To me at the service, a lady didn't seem to be looking forward to it, but fortunately that was compensated by her colleague who radiated energy for 10. Nice girl, we also complimented her on that. The food is straight forward, exactly what you expect. Their home-made Canary Pies taste delicious! Unfortunately, they forgot to introduce our Nachos, which of course can happen from time to time. After all, it remains a human effort, no problem at all. As far as we are concerned, the Nachos could be a bit more exciting, very boring and plain. What really bothered us were the cameras in the ladies'/men's toilets. This is simply not allowed, the law is very clear about this. When you are peeing, there is a camera pointed at you that records everything, not a very pleasant idea. When I discussed this with the bartender during payment, a lady came by (without introducing herself), probably the manager, who seemed very defensive and was unable to have a normal conversation about it. It became too difficult for her and she walked away. This is a shame, that's why 3 stars and not 5.

Spacious and bright place where you can meet up with a group. You can get nice beers and I think there is also a terrace in the summer.

Our hearts beat with anticipation... who gets the cake... who gets the cake... well I have never been to this Yellow Canary but next Sunday it will happen... at least if they open a little earlier because of the NN Marathon... we are going to wait here for our daughter who will have completed her marathon almost right in front of the Kanarie... at least we hope so... at the times that I pass the Gele It's never actually busy in the cracker row, but some days the terrace is completely filled with Rotterdam from various backgrounds.... when we've been there next week I will correct this text and give my extremely reliable opinion... these are exciting times. ...is it great or is it rubbish....

Large cozy place for a drink or a bite to eat with friends. The atmosphere is always friendly, the food is delicious and you can also taste their own brewed beers. You can also see the brewery on the way to the toilet. The only downside is that it is so busy at work ends with such loud music that I can no longer hear the person next to me.

Lekkere biertjes, leuke sfeer er was wel een geur uit de hoek. We wilden in de hoek gaan zitten, maar daar kwam een niet misse geur vandaan. Toen we verplaatste een heerlijke avond gehad met goed bier.

Een van de beste plekjes in Rotterdam om lekker te borrelen! Hoewel het er meestal druk is, is er altijd wel een plekje vrij. Je kunt er heerlijk eten, snacken en van allerlei drankjes genieten. Als je zin hebt in een spelletje is het ook zeker the place to be!! Aanrader!

Een leuke plek als je even de drukte van de stad beu bent. Vriendelijk personeel dat goed advies geeft welk biertje lekker is. Toiletten, restaurant en bar erg netjes!

Heerlijke plek om te eten, drinken en te praten. Goede service, die ziet wat je nodig hebt. Een hele resum bieren van het vat. De rest van de drankkaart is erg volledig. Maar voor de hapjes en bites zou je zeker terugkomen. Die waren toppertjes en mooi geserveerd. Ik heb er van genoten.
