Really delicious food. And great service.

Uitstekende uitleg bij de gerechten. Er werd niet alleen rekening gehouden met het van tevoren doorgegeven dieet, er werd zelfs iets bijzonders van gemaakt. Lokaal en internationaal gecombineerd op je bord. De aardappel op unieke wijze bereid en geserveerd, maar nooit gewoon als aardappel. Bijv in het heerlijke ijs (foto). Toch liggen ze zo wel in de grote mand bij de keuken. Bedankt voor het bijzondere diner.

First time in Breda and luckily ended up in Zand en Klei. Delicious food. Very nicely composed in terms of taste and layout (in our case the lunch). Friendly, professional service. Beautiful, nice location. In short: again to Breda and certainly again to Zand en Klei!

Surprisingly tasty and friendly service.

The terrace was open but she didn't reserve anything because apparently the kitchen was not open yet and they were not told very kindly.

Een fijne locatie, het ziet er allemaal heel gezellig uit, binnen en buiten. Aardige serveersters. Al vind ik een serveerster met neuspiering in even wennen. Voorgerecht, ik wilde kiezen maar we kregen 'de proeverij', een groot bord vol koude hapjes die op het menu staan als voorgerecht. Zag er mooi uit. Maar de gerechtjes waren te groot en lomp, de smaak vettig en zwaar. De mocktail was prima. Daarna kozen we eendenbout en rendang. Leuk geserveerd in een bakje van aardappelspul. Maar de inhoud viel echt tegen, hoe leuk de presentatie ook was. Wel veel verschillende groentes erin, maar die waren te koud, en het vlees was lang tevoren gekookt en weer opgewarmd. De rendang bevatte 4 stukjes vlees. Maar vanwege de zware voorgerechten was dat niet zo erg. Al met al, geen ruimte meer voor een dessert. Komen we nog eens terug? Denk van niet, de hele avond lag het eten zwaar op de maag. Niet zo geschikt voor ons. Wel voor mensen die van 'Brabants en gefrituurd en veel' houden.

Delicious food! Well-balanced flavours, beautifully presented plates, friendly service and tasty mocktails. Reservations recommended, this Saturday evening they were completely full. But still, the dishes were quickly on the table. And the dishes on the menu are also pregnancy-proof. We chose the 2-course menu (main/dessert). The pork belly was very tender and the lamb roll with chimichurri tasted great in combination with the other flavourings on the plate. Both desserts were also very tasty, with my personal favourite being the apple dessert (with a crispy top). But the blueberry pannacotta also tasted good. If you want to eat something special, which tastes delicious, then you should definitely go here. Choice of 2-course menu (€40 pp) or 3-course menu.

Definitely one of my favorites in Breda. The food is always surprising, of good quality and extremely tasty. They work with a permanent team full of people who are really made for the catering industry. Friendly, warm and attentive. When they come up with something new, I prefer to taste it as soon as possible. In short, eating here is always a pleasure, just like yesterday.

I was here by invitation in November 2024. And what a surprise this was. I went there without expectations, but it soon became clear that this team has only one goal and that is to surprise, pamper and give you a nice experience. A feast for the eyes and taste buds.

Here you can choose between 2 or 3 courses. We went for 3 courses. The food was really above average and original. Nice and tender meat with tasty vegetables in a potato basket and good flavors. The diversity of (tasty) beers was also striking; albeit they don't have anything on tap. We found the disadvantage that everything was served very quickly, which meant that we were unable to enjoy a quiet meal, even though we had requested this several times. So we had our starter on our table almost immediately after ordering. We like to dine for a long time, but that's not what you need to come here for.

Every few months we choose a restaurant somewhere in the Netherlands to eat. Last night I joined "De Jongens...". And I haven't regretted it for a second. What a wonderful experience this was. Had a tasting as a starter and was able to taste many delicious and surprising flavors. Pani puri with beetroot, you wouldn't think of it but it tasted excellent. Chose the pork belly as a main course and it was incredibly tasty! Well cooked pork belly, good flavour. Delicious with fresh vegetables, nice and crunchy. For dessert the Panna Cotta. A beautifully presented dessert with good flavors. Compliments to the kitchen and we would love to come back.

What a bunch of friendly staff! (They are of course very sweet ladies😜) Service is one thing, but they understand the hospitality here very well! We were afraid that we would all find it too much potato, but this exceeded all expectations. Honest, pure and with love. What a nice restaurant!

Discovered this gem in Breda today with my wife!!!👌👌 We really enjoyed it, as soon as we entered we were received warmly and friendly, as it should be!☺️ We were also asked quite quickly if we wanted to order something to drink, not too pushy and not having to wait too long, perfect timing. After they came to take our order for lunch, we were able to watch how our lunch was prepared through a semi-open kitchen, what a great experience and once we had lunch in front of us it was really a treat, everything was normal. perfect, the flavors were great, the quantity was just right and especially the quality was really sublime, in short, THE BOYS OF SAND AND CLAY, they made us super happy!!!😉😁☺️ Keep up the good work and for everyone who wants a healthy nice lunch, I definitely recommend this!!!!!👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍 Thank you for this great lunch afternoon

The appearance, taste, and service were all great. I stopped by Breda while passing by, and thanks to this restaurant, I remember it as a very cool city! The beer pairing was also really impressive. If I take this concept and taste to Korea, I think it will definitely be a success haha.

And indeed; potatoes. “Dressing up the ordinary spud in a sexy outfit” is what it says on the website. Completely true. I was very curious to see what I could expect from a restaurant that specializes in dishes made with or from potatoes. It’s surprising, it’s unexpected, it’s Unique with a capital U. For the starter, we had a tasting platter, and for the main course, we chose Rendang stew and pork belly. Both were beautifully served in a crunchy potato basket. Finally, we shared a floral apple dessert. Also delicious and beautifully presented. Hats off to the Guys (and Girls) of Zand en Klei! De Jongens van Zand en Klei is de naam van het restaurant. Na het lezen hiervan had ik al een vermoeden waar dit restaurant zijn nadruk op zou leggen. En inderdaad; Aardappels. De ordinaire knol in een sexy jasje stoppen staat er geschreven op de website. Klopt helemaal. Ik was heel benieuwd wat ik zou kunnen verwachten in een restaurant wat zich heeft gespecialiseerd in gerechten met of van aardappels gemaakt. Het is verrassend, het is onverwacht, het is Uniek met een hoofdletter. Als voorgerecht een proeverijtje en als hoofdgerecht hadden we Rendang stoof en Buikspek. Beide heel mooi geserveerd in een crunchy potato basket. Als laatste hebben we 1 floraal appel dessert op. Ook heerlijk en supermooi opgemaakt. Petje af voor de Jongens (en meisjes) van Zand en Klei!

No, we were not impressed. The starters were all cold and not well seasoned and some had such a layer on them that they had been made well in advance. The main course was strange. Pieces of beetroot, lukewarm lettuce, lots of sauce. The case seems a bit cold. The service was also not really great. When we indicated that it was not really to our liking, they were actually simply ignored. They also closed very early on weekends, so after-dinner dining was not an option. Too bad... but never again.

Very nice restaurant that stands out from other establishments. As the name suggests, the potato is the hero of the kitchen, but at a high level. Not the place for a quick bite, take your time to sit quietly here. The first time was for lunch, I'll come and see what the evening menu is like.

Everything was great! The starter with the various snacks were delicious, the presentation and taste of the main course were great. The staff is fast, friendly and helpful! The decoration of the restaurant itself does not give off a great atmosphere, but it is just okay. Definitely recommended if you want to eat something different and can really appreciate it. This non-vegan enjoyed her vegan main course 🥰

Surprisingly tasty lunch and different than usual. I personally had the patato bun with portobello, so tasty and so beautifully prepared. Everything is right, delicious wine in a beautiful glass, paper napkins of nice thick quality. Everything looks clean (toilet!). Very friendly service, nice interior. Really highly recommended. Voorgerecht is in de vorm van een proeverijtje, dus je hoeft niet na te denken over je keuze want je krijgt gewoon alles :) Dit waren allemaal koude hapjes. Heel lekker en bijzonder. Als hoofdgerecht had ik gekozen voor de rendang. Deze was erg lekker, het vlees was super mals! Dus zeker een aanrader.

Made a last minute reservation here by telephone on a Wednesday evening, but luckily there was still room. There was a table available by the large window, which gave you a good view of the outside. Friendly service and a nice concept! We opted for the 3 course menu and it certainly did not disappoint. Experimental flavors with the potato in the leading role, but anything but boring and very Dutch. Definitely recommended if you want something different than a standard a la carte restaurant!

We had a super delicious lunch! I had the patato bun with smoked carrot and that is highly recommended. My friend chose the bun with scrumbled feta and really liked it too. Friendly and enthusiastic people work there. We would like to come back again when we are in Breda.
