What a fantastic place, exceptionally friendly staff. Had a nice chat at the table with the blonde lady. Enjoyed a delicious Caesar salad with the "Happen&Trappen" promotion. We will definitely come back here again to enjoy dinner. The lady also gave a short tour and her enthusiasm amazed us.

The food was fine. The Bavette was of excellent quality. However, likely due to a lack of staff, the service was far below par. We had to wait a very long time for the menu. After that, the main course arrived quite quickly, but after that, no one paid any attention to our table. Eventually, we left without dessert and paid at the bar. We reported this here. We received a free glass of wine. A shame, this experience.

On Whit Sunday, we had made a reservation at ‘De Koning’. The weather was beautiful, and since we had been there before, I was really looking forward to it. We were welcomed by a friendly lady and chose to sit in the conservatory. A nice table, a pleasant atmosphere. We then had to wait quite a long time just to be able to order a drink. We can understand that when it is very busy. But from our table, I could see and hear the staff just standing around chatting with each other at the bar. For me, that sets the tone right from the start. Partly because we are not used to that at ‘De Koning’. The young man who eventually came to take our order did not radiate the hospitality and enjoyment that we normally see in the staff. This young man was hard to understand, and his facial expressions suggested he would rather be somewhere else…. The food was actually quite tasty. But due to the poor service, we decided not to have dessert and just pay the bill. It really hurts when you’ve paid a hefty sum for a bad experience... I do want to mention that the waitress(es) were indeed friendly and service-oriented. But the young man who mainly helped us ruined it for the rest. A real shame, because as mentioned, we are not used to this from ‘De Koning’.

Ribeye small and tough, slow, unfriendly service.

We were on a bikepacking trip and wanted to eat there with four people just before the thunderstorm. The place was at most a quarter full. We were told that we couldn't eat there without a reservation. Clearly, we weren't welcome because of our clothing. We ended up going to Moeke's, and that was great!

A few things have changed. We didn't really feel welcome. The service at our table was slow compared to other tables. Starters turned out to have been ready for a while, but were only served after we reminded them. So we had just over half an hour to finish the starter and main course. We had set aside well over an hour for it... The food was of reasonable quality. The fact that asparagus is expensive was evident in the salad. I had expected fresh ones, but these seemed to have come from a can. The fries seemed like a re-run batch, certainly fried a second time. Actually, only the steak was good. Next time we'll go elsewhere.

It was our first time. We sat comfortably at the back of the restaurant. Good atmosphere, cozy and charming. Quiet surroundings and super friendly service. The food is very good. Definitely recommended.

Asparagus is back, and HOW! Today I had asparagus with sea bass and asparagus risotto; I can't remember ever eating so well. Naturally, a Danish cream puff for dessert.

Despite a full terrace, it was the first beautiful spring day. Inside, the service was excellent with tasty food and prompt service. The Danish cream puff dessert, in particular, was a delicious surprise.

February 27, 2026: Had a great lunch. We could sit outside (a bit too chilly for us), inside, or in the conservatory, the latter. Friendly service. One point of concern: the (clean) toilet has a step down that they point out. The step down could also be pointed out. This was in 2023: Had a great lunch, although the soup was a bit of a letdown. Not a big deal, but: 4 stars.

The food and atmosphere are always good, if you get the chance to order. Yesterday, we left fifteen minutes after entering, without being spoken to by the staff. The service is usually much better.

Even the King of Denmark is caught out when it comes to reception and table assignments. When my wife and I dine out, we usually make reservations in advance. We're often assigned tables in restaurants that aren't to our liking, and we ask to be seated elsewhere. This was the case last Monday for my wife's birthday. Upon arriving at 1 p.m. sharp, we received no friendly welcome, but a businesslike look. When I explained that we had a reservation, I was curtly told we could sit high up by the bar or the window, and the waitress went back to what she was doing. My wife and I exchanged surprised looks because several tables in the restaurant beyond the bar were occupied and people were enjoying their meals. After some persuasion, we were finally allowed in. When I asked the waitress about this policy, she explained that they want the tables at the front occupied first, and then the tables inside the restaurant. I understand this policy when dealing with unexpected passers-by, but not if you have a reservation! Then I expect a table in the restaurant and not at a high table near the bar because those have to be occupied first.

The food is delicious, but the portions are way too small. The service is excellent, ambitious but not overly stiff. Everyone is welcome. You notice that immediately. That creates the atmosphere.

What a disgrace. Far too expensive for poor service and mediocre food. No garnishes on your plate. I've noticed it's not a highlight, but after this experience, I'll definitely go somewhere else!

Went to lunch with two friends today. I had a tuna sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. I love tuna, but I'd never had a fresh tuna sandwich before; it was always canned with sauce. This was absolutely amazing! Compliments and... see you soon!!

The food was very good, and Prices accordingly. The staff was pleasant and friendly and all spoke English, however the menus we're not in English, but we're easy enough to understand. There was a bit of a delay getting our order but once we did everything was great.

Good, tasty food. Nice place to sit both inside and outside. Service on the terrace often depends a bit on how busy it is, so they sometimes forget about you. That's a shame, but all in all, a nice, good restaurant.

Great location, good food, and a pleasantly busy atmosphere. Very knowledgeable staff and a good menu. The steaks and cheese platter are excellent. Also recommended for beer and whiskey. Definitely worth a visit!

We had lunch here with a "Hap en Trap" voucher. It's just a shame that the selection with this voucher is very limited. You can choose between a carpaccio sandwich or a chicken salad. That's it. Such a shame. They just let us choose from the entire menu. They could add an extra €2 if needed, but we thought that was a bit meager.

The four of us had dinner at De Koning. We had a schnitzel menu for our youngest, and our oldest had carpaccio, as she wasn't very hungry. My husband and I were looking at the reviews on the website and saw a delicious King XL steak platter for 3 people, so we thought we'd give it a try. The service was friendly and polite and asked how we wanted our meat, "medium-rare." When we received it, we were truly disappointed. The three kinds of meat were either overcooked or too raw. They were all small pieces and definitely not an XL platter like we'd seen in the reviews (photos). It seemed like the pieces we were ultimately served were poorly cooked meat for other guests. If we had ordered separately, not the platter, we would have gotten the same amount. We paid a whopping €74 for this platter, which was truly outrageous for what we received, and it wasn't cooked as promised. Lunch is fine here, but we definitely won't be dining here again; it's a waste of money.

We had a wonderful meal. Good meat specialties. I was also hesitant about the vegetarian cauliflower. Plenty of choice on the menu. Very friendly service. Excellent wine to choose from with the specialties. We had a pleasant evening. I don't often give 5 stars, but it was a delicious experience for us. Value for money: there's quite a lot on your plate, especially if you also wanted to choose a dessert, which also looked and tasted delicious. We therefore felt the price was definitely worth it for what you get. Delicious, fun, and friendly. That's how we experienced our dinner.

One of our regular restaurants with good food, a cozy atmosphere, and friendly staff. We enjoy coming here, it's just a shame that prices have risen quite explosively over the last two years (since the Corona period). We come here a little less now, but it remains one of our favorites in beautiful Rhenen.

We had a delicious lunch at the Koning van Denemarken restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They kept an eye on us and showed interest. The food arrived quickly, and we highly recommend the carpaccio salad or sandwich. The terrace is ideally situated, offering both sun and shade. We will definitely be back.

Na lange tijd maar weer eens gegaan. Beiden Broodje pikante kip gegeten; 24 uur buikpijn gehad, echt geen aanrader. Daarbij is denk ik , zoals altijd, het personeel geïnstrueerd om telkens te vragen of je nog meer wilt drinken, zeer vervelend! Dus voorlopig maar geen Koning van Denemarken meer voor ons!

Dit is een fijne plek voor een aperitief en diner. De sfeer is heel goed, informeel, en het was gezellig druk. De bediening was opgewekt en heel attent. Wij vonden het voorgerecht, hoofdgerecht en dessert goed tot uitstekend. Kortom wij hebben een goed besteedde avond gehad.......

Wil je gezellig zitten en lekker eten? Dan moet je bij “De Koning van Denemarken” zijn! Heerlijk getafeld en lekker gegeten! Prijs/kwaliteit: goed. De bediening is vriendelijk en je hoeft niet lang te wachten op je eten en drinken. Guus was de topper van de avond, leuke gast, die houdt alles goed in de peiling of niemand wat tekort komt. Zeker een aanrader om hier te gaan eten.

De laatste tijd eet ik hier niet meer omdat ik beroerd van het eten werd. En het maakt niet uit, of het een soort tosti was ( anders genoemd hier ) of een ander gerecht. Het bleef zo. Ik dronk hier m'n Latte en week uit naar elders om daar te lunchen of te dineren. Eerder toen ik hier kwam vroeg ik bijna altijd om een plak ham voor mijn hondje en daar betaalde ik 0.50 euro ct voor. De laatste keer dat ik een review over dit bedrijf schreef, deed dit bedrijf net alsof hun altijd zo lief waren voor mijn hondje vanwege de plak ham. Ik kwam hier bijna iedere dag en soms 2x per dag. Maar je mag géén negatieve review schrijven want daar kunnen ze niet tegen. Prima, dan kom ik niet meer. Maar ik wijk wel uit naar Nijkerk, daar zit een goed Grandcafé die mij wel netjes behandeld. Succes met uw bedrijf. Maar voor mij hoeft het hier niet meer.

Café-restaurant "De Koning van Denemarken" ligt aan de rand van het stadje Rhenen, vlakbij de beroemde Cuneratoren. Het etablissement ontleent haar naam aan Koning Christian II van Denemarken (1481-1559), die in 1523 wegens wanbeleid door zijn onderdanen werd verdreven. De ex-koning verbleef vervolgens enige tijd in Rhenen .. de hotelier die hem onderdak verschafte noemde zijn zaak daarna "De Koning van Denemarken". Op de plek van dit hotel werd in 1952 een nieuwe horeca onderneming gebouwd .. het huidige café-restaurant, dat de naam van het verdwenen hotel overnam. Het café-restaurant is ruim en aangenaam ingericht. Terras voor de zaak. Vriendelijk personeel, vlotte bediening. Het "flatbread Korean chicken", waarvan ik mocht meeproeven was goed. Dat gold ook voor de garnalenkroketten die ik koos. Mooi op smaak, goed gevuld. Prettige sfeer in het café. Krijg je trek in Rhenen dan kan je met een gerust hart hier wat eten en drinken.

Heerlijk gegeten! Wel erg lang moeten wachten, maar het eten was lekker. Het heeft ons heel erg geraakt dat personeel ons beschuldigde van stelen van een fles water en stiekem gedrag, omdat we de dop op de fles gedraaid hadden waar nog wat water in zat en zo de indruk gaf we de fles niet te willen betalen. Echt heel slecht zo het personeel zich uitsprak, terwijl we gewoon betalen, fooi gaven en het blijkbaar over een misverstand ging door de dop op de fles te draaien wat schijnbaar niet de gewoonte is. Wij gaan door dit gedrag niet snel weer bij de koning eten.

Als vaste klant een keer in de serre beland...prima entourage , maar geen muziek. Er miste echt iets aan de vertrouwde sfeer. De hertenbiefstuk viel wat tegen. Echt te zoet van smaak.. volgende keer weer in t cafe n tafel.

October 26, 2024 had lunch here. My choice was, Oerbread, Chicken, Piri piri. It tasted good. Friendly staff. I will definitely come back here.

Ik kom wel vaker bij dit restaurant, samen met m'n hondje. Je kunt hier goed lunchen, borrelen etc. Personeel is vriendelijk. Je kunt zowel binnen als buiten zitten Ik kom hier graag weer.

It's okay, atmosphere is good but food is very mediocre. They take dietary requirements and allergies into account. We went out for dinner with our team. Some dishes were tasty, others were not. My colleague's dessert had 3 hairs in it. When she reported this, she was offered a new dessert and of course an apology. Very neat but mmm. It was okay but I won't eat here again. If the food was great and that happened, I would have given it another chance, but not now. Service is also friendly and the atmosphere is also good.

Vlakbij het centrum gelegen restaurant. Op een mooie locatie. Een uitgebreide kaart, mooi ingericht. Gastvrij personeel. Alleen voor minder validen wat moeilijker om binnen te komen. Dit geldt ook voor de toiletten.

Was even very busy for a Monday evening...reservations are a must. AND the Danish choux is highly recommended. Really something to fill the holes, but then they are really filled. Fine.

Rijd door Rhenen en je kan deze uitspanning aan de N225 niet missen. Het overdekte terras is zomer en winter goed bezet, maar ook binnen is het sfeervol toeven. Het is vanavond niet druk, we zijn weliswaar met een groep maar de keuken gunt ons de keuze à la carte. De bestellingen komen, flink gevarieerd, mooi tegelijk aan tafel en zien er verzorgd uit. Zowel voorgerecht als hoofdgerecht. Ik neem de crunchy sushi vóór. Het is een bijzondere (ook prijzige) constructie van schijfjes 'sushi' met een krokante rand, kewpi mayo, een wasabidotje en een pipetje kikkoman sojasaus. Met sushi heeft helaas niets van doen, verderop in de straat kan men in de leer bij een japansere gelegenheid. Vervolgens bestellen sommigen de picanha, medium rare bereid. Prima, de borden zien er wel nogal verschillend uit en de meegeleverde schaarse groenten zijn warm, maar rauw. Alles wordt weer goedgemaakt met de royale toetjes die volgen. Het personeel is goed geïnstrueerd om de kelen vochtig te houden, ook bij nog gevulde glazen wordt regelmatig gevraagd of er drank geserveerd kan worden. Daar zit vast het gemakkelijker verdienmodel. Het was gezellig en goed, het gezelschap was belangrijker en beter.

We have been coming here for years, always Top. What to drink or eat, it doesn't matter, always good and fun.

In honor of our 25th wedding anniversary, we had dinner here with a group of 18 people. The run-up to it was more than well organised. Nicest service. On the evening itself, apart from the fact that we had to wait just over an hour for our first course, we had an excellent meal and the rest of the evening went perfectly.

We hadden trek en na geweldige ervaringen hier (juli 2023 voor het laatst) besloten we op weg naar huis even af te buigen naar de Koning voor een lunch. Bediening was tergend langzaam, de cappuccinos waren lauw (een nieuwe gekregen, dat wel) en toen kwamen de twaalf uurtjes... Koude uitsmijters, lauwe soep, koude kroketten, margarine in plaats van boter en de garnie welke voorheen een heerlijke kleine salade was, ontbrak. De kerriesoep smaakte waterig, vaag iets van een bouillonsmaakje in de verre verte met een kwak droge kerriepoeder erin. De tomatensoep had onderin het kopje nog dikke pasta zitten, dus ook dat was geen succes qua smaak. Personeel begreep niet hoe het koud had kunnen zijn. Men leek oprecht niet geïnteresseerd. Op het 'tot ziens' heb ik maar niet gereageerd. In ieder geval hebben we niet onze monden verbrand en de trek was weg. De zin om ooit nog terug te komen ook.

Wij hebben een heerlijke high tea gehad, veel variatie in zowel koud, warm en zoet. Daarnaast zaten we met z’n zessen aan een ronde tafel zoals gevraagd bij de reservering. De bediening was zeer vriendelijk en heel servicegericht. Wij zaten in de serre wat erg sfeervol was, we waren hierbij gecharmeerd van de gehele aankleding zoals het servies, meubilair en het leuke personeel. Wij raden dit restaurant zeker aan en hebben een ontzorgde middag gehad. Eigenlijk wilden we het servies, inclusief ober mee naar huis nemen😉 Team Sophia, Doetinchem.
