An unknown restaurant to me. I went for lunch/brunch with friends, so we were there very early, which meant we basically had the place to ourselves... it ended up being a real dinner, and the food was delicious... just enough for me. I will definitely go here again with my husband.. And around dinnertime, several people walked in.

We ate at the new Hommel again after a few years. What a pleasant surprise; we should have done this sooner. The new owner/chef really knows his craft. Everything was prepared perfectly and served with great finesse. We had opted for a three-course special menu, but there was no sign that any corners had been cut; it was simply top-notch. The house white wine was also delicious. We are fans; you really have to try this (again) sometime!

We went here to celebrate my birthday and sat outside with a lovely view over the canal. The service was incredibly friendly and the menu was extensive but not overwhelming. Not the cheapest food, but the quality of every course was excellent. With the main course, we were served many different vegetables, which looked beautiful and colorful and tasted delicious too. Our sons had crème brûlée for dessert and were lucky because there were still two left. They are prepared fresh every morning and when they're gone, they're gone. They also said it was delicious. I got little stars on my dessert and the waiter came to sing. All in all, a festive and very tasty meal.

A lovely place with a friendly welcome. Surprisingly good food with delicate flavors. The homemade herb oil is amazing. Definitely recommended, also for a drink on the terrace by the water. Top-notch.

A really nice place; I had a 3-course menu with my father. My father is vegan, which wasn't a problem at all. The owner put the most delicious dishes on the table in no time. The restaurant was empty except for us, because apparently it was very bad under the previous owner. It's a real shame that it was so empty now because the food and service were really top-notch and for a great price. 3 courses for €35.

Wow, wow, wow… what an experience! I absolutely love dining out and have had many great meals before, but this place is truly the place to be. I went for the “Hommel plank” for two, followed by a perfectly cooked veal steak as the main course, and to top it all off, a delicious Dame Blanche for dessert. Every single dish was a true explosion of flavors, clearly prepared with passion and care. I highly recommend everyone to come and eat here—you really have to experience it for yourself!

We came here from Utrecht because we wanted a true halal culinary experience. Well, this was anything but; our evening was truly ruined! This was largely due to the chef's arrogance and intimidating attitude afterward. We opted for the 4-course surprise menu for €60 per person, because yes! We're going for the "culinary" experience! A little while later, I received some shrimp, which tasted okay. My girlfriend received a carpaccio that was also fine, but nothing special. Then the wait began... At 7:30, an hour and a half after that first dish, the waitress arrived to say that the table behind us (who arrived later) would be served first because that group was in a hurry... which we found unacceptable... and if we had to wait any longer, at least serve us some kind of bite? I'm still heavily pregnant, and the wait seemed like an eternity... I found it rude, and we didn't get the culinary experience we were hoping for. We hesitated to say anything, but after a while, we called the waitress and asked if we could cancel the rest of our order. We wanted to pay for what we'd already eaten and leave as quickly as possible. The waitress indicated that our soups were almost ready and that the chef would be there to discuss them. Fine, we'll wait for the chef. The waitress then served the soup, and she indicated that our main course would follow sooner. The chef simply tried to avoid us and didn't come back. We really didn't like this and asked again to speak with him and cancel the order. The soup they served was a real disappointment, with a broth that tasted like a dissolved Maggi cube and a few mushrooms mixed in—absolutely nothing culinary about it. This is more likely to be served in a retirement home, no joke. It probably came from Makro or Sligro. Besides, it can't be right that this soup takes an hour to heat up. Well, we were mainly hoping they'd take our feedback seriously, so we could pay and leave, or at least eat somewhere else. Then the chef arrived... And that was the highlight. He almost dismissed us; it was all so rushed, and he didn't want to hear or accept anything. "Have a nice evening, ladies, you don't like it here, go away." A truly disgusting attitude towards guests who come specifically to this restaurant, and especially towards a heavily pregnant woman. We told them we weren't okay with sitting here until almost 7:45 after just finishing our appetizer, and that we had to wait for the other table to be served. According to the "chef," this wasn't because of the other table, but because of me, because I was pregnant and he had to use different cutting boards for this. What's the logic in that? Surely that soup could have been served much sooner, and he doesn't have to do anything special for it? You use different cutting boards for the carpaccio and shrimp anyway. I pointed out that the waitress had indicated that the other group wanted to be served earlier due to a rush, but the gentleman replied, "It had NOTHING to do with that waitress." It's so nice when someone talks about their colleague like that... He's a truly nasty little man. I felt unsafe, intimidated by his attitude and chatter, and just wanted to leave. We hoped for understanding and that he would take the feedback seriously, but his reaction made me sick, and I just wanted to leave! We also explained that we came here to support this business, but the chef's attitude has completely ruined everything. Don't go here for the food (that can always improve, which is why we really hoped he would take our feedback on board), but especially not for the chef's disrespectful, arrogant, and especially intimidating attitude toward two women! Incidentally, there's nothing wrong with the waitress. She remained polite and courteous.

Beautiful plates on Instagram don't make a restaurant culinary. The term creates expectations that, unfortunately, aren't met here. The prawns with fried vegetables appetizer was disappointing. The dish was swimming in oil, and the vegetables were limp from being soaked in it. This detracted from the flavor and texture. The mushroom soup, unfortunately, didn't improve matters. It was very salty and resembled a bouillon cube with water, supplemented with a few mushroom pieces. Refinement and depth were lacking. What you get is accessible and fine for an informal setting, but it feels more like a brasserie than a gastronomic experience. A suitable spot for coffee or an informal lunch, but not the culinary experience presented. A more honest positioning would better reflect what is actually served.

The food was delicious, and it's also a feast for the eyes. The presentation of the food has been carefully considered. The flavors complement each other perfectly, and the quality of the food is outstanding. I recommend De (new) Hommel to everyone.

What started as a simple drink with friends ended in pure beer disappointment. We ordered four 50-minute draft Bavarias. The first three were fine, but things went wrong right from the start with the last beer: the tap turned out to be empty. To our surprise, the “last” beer was resolved by simply pouring in a lukewarm bottle of Hertog Jan, which the barmaid fetched from behind the bar. As if we wouldn't notice… The color difference between the lagers was clearly visible, let alone the difference in taste. So, a 50-minute Frankenpils it was…

We had a fantastic meal at De Hommel. The staff is very (child) friendly, and the chef is passionate about his craft. For the Muslims among us: don't be put off by the alcohol that's still available. The kitchen is 100% halal, and the food is truly excellent. Made with love, passion, and expertise. We'll definitely be back!

A very fine restaurant, beautifully decorated in a rustic style with an eye for detail. The food was absolutely star-worthy, offering a culinary taste experience you won't soon forget. With another couple, so there were four of us, we dined here on Saturday night. The chef came by several times to explain what we were eating. Fabio, a really great chef. The service was also excellent. We had a starter, main course, and dessert. We definitely recommend the veal tenderloin. And of course, the mushroom soup was delicious. We also highly recommend the Hommel tapas. For dessert, we had the panna cotta, which was served in a real orange. Highly recommended if you're looking for a relaxing and delicious dinner.

Starting in December 2024, new owner Amir will be hosting De Hommel, located on the waterfront near Beek en Donk. We had a fantastic meal and the seating was very pleasant. You really need to forget about the old Hommel. This place is so good and welcoming, with beautiful dishes and excellent wine. You'd be happy to fill the restaurant with these people! I highly recommend giving it a try.

Today I went to eat with my two sisters and mother, and I can only say one thing: wow. Upon arrival, there was ample parking space. Inside, it was immediately noticeable how much attention had been paid to the aesthetics of the interior. Even before we had eaten anything, I felt spoiled. The furniture was in excellent condition and exuded not only luxury, but also cleanliness. The service (and the chef!) understand that people don't just come to eat - it's about the whole experience. And that was great! Warm plates, spacious tables, comfortable seats... everything had been thought of. The menu is easy to read and - certainly not unimportant - clear and concise. The prices we paid were also very normal, which made the experience even more pleasant. What also struck me was how well the service keeps an overview - in a positive way. You never have to wait long, but they are not pushy either. You have the feeling that everything goes automatically. It's great to see that such a young team understands so well that hospitality goes beyond just the plate of food. My compliments! Until next time!

My sister and I have lunch here regularly and are always very satisfied. We are both vegetarian and choose a delicious fresh sandwich with top hummus and a large mountain of roasted vegetables with nuts and dates. The wine list is fantastic. The price/quality ratio is excellent. The service and the owner are very friendly and attentive. Chapeau!

We had been planning to visit this restaurant for a long time, especially since it has been under new ownership for several months. Very pleasantly surprised, not only by the delicious cuisine and how the dishes are served (they are just paintings, I was apparently so impressed by them that I forgot to take a photo 🤣), but certainly also by the personal attention of the owner himself. A very endearing personality who more than deserves it, we have already planned the next visit!

Update 2025: Things are very bad after the takeover. Prices for something tasty with coffee are ridiculous. Went on Saturday April 12, 2025 around 11:30 am. No one to be seen. Sat on the terrace for 10 minutes, no one comes to help. Went in, called 4 times. Called into the kitchen and knocked twice loudly and walked to the back and called there. Everything was open but there was no one to be seen. The next bankruptcy is on its way. 2019: Great restaurant. Very nice point near the canal on the edge of Beek en Donk. Lunch menu varies with good prices. Definitely recommended to visit. TIP: Great stopover if you are cycling.

It was early in the day, on our way to Limburg (weekend away) with the family and we were hungry so we thought we'd go to DE HOMMEL (we had been here years ago!! But I think it is a new owner because it was very attractive and tidy (not at the time:)) we were the only ones so we got our food quickly!! Friendly service, delicious food!!
