Only junk food, limp pizza and poorly filled sandwiches. A shame for a beautiful place like Artis.

This place offends me every time I go there. I’d rather eat some sand from the playground than the “food” at this place. Also way too expensive for that junk they call food. Lastly, that stuff they dared to put on my plate was even cold.

It’s actually terrible. Paid €24 and I would’ve been okay with it for €4. Building is nice though, so it feels like a waste of potential.

Only vegan options? With such mindset they will feed lions with carrots soon

View over the water or the giraffes. Even during the holidays, you can always find a seat and fast service. The tables are cleaned every time and they push a few together if you come in with several people. Enough child seats available. Ideal menu for a zoo, little fuss but excellent pizza, croquette and burgers or a piece of cake. Yum yum. And don't forget, every bite is vegetarian! Much better for the animals too :) sweet sweet! While with every bite we think, damn, it's meat, isn't it? Don't know. Kids in the playground and hang out for a while. The best restaurant in the area, but only in Artis. Hey! There goes the zebra! Look!

Disappointing experience at De Waterkant in Artis I recently visited Artis with my family and we decided to eat something at De Waterkant. Unfortunately, this was a big disappointment from start to finish. Upon arrival, we noticed that the atmosphere was anything but welcoming. I walked to the cash register where two employees were standing: a tanned lady and a somewhat heavier woman in a black shirt. I kindly asked what they could recommend from the menu, but was looked at strangely - as if I had asked something crazy. One of them mumbled: "Well, everything is okay here." Not very helpful or enthusiastic. When we wanted to order something, everything turned out to be vegetarian. This was an unpleasant surprise for us; we just wanted a normal meal, not necessarily vegetarian. But anyway, we decided to order anyway. We had: • 1x Margherita pizza • 1x Fish with bread • 1x Croissant with cream and strawberries • 2x children's menu • 1x Croquette sandwich The quality of the food was downright bad. The pizza was soggy and absolutely not worth the money. The fish with bread was dry and had a soapy taste - really inedible. The croissant seemed a few days old, and the 'fresh' cream and strawberries did not make it any better; the strawberries looked almost moldy. The children's menu was the best of all, but even there the chicken nuggets were disappointing: they tasted clearly of soy, which meant that a lot of (vegan!) mayonnaise was needed to make them somewhat tasty. The croquette sandwich was also disappointing - vegetarian of course - with a penetrating smell that made us decide not to even start eating it. As if the food wasn't bad enough, someone came to clean under our table with a mop during our meal. Very inappropriate and disruptive. Unfortunately, we can't say much positive about the staff either. The employees came across as disinterested and unmotivated. It felt like hospitality wasn't on their radar at all. And as if that wasn't enough, we were abruptly asked to leave the restaurant because they were closing. This was done in a rather unfriendly manner by the lady in the black shirt - we literally felt chased away. In short, De Waterkant in Artis was a big disappointment for us. The food was substandard, the staff unfriendly and the atmosphere unpleasant. I certainly wouldn't dare call this a restaurant, and I definitely don't recommend it.

What a bad place fries deep fried in piss sausage roll tastes drier than the lion's cage. More expensive than tax.

Very pleasant setting. There are ordering terminals that indicate allergens. The service was quick. Lots of seating space. Vegetarian and hearty cuisine, it wasn't exceptional but it didn't kill me not to eat meat for a meal!

Exorbitantly expensive and only vegan. Even just vegan mayo for 70 cents with your 4.50 fries. And to get this shit we had to wait 45 minutes.

Waiting time of almost an hour for a pizza and a burger. Way too expensive. Try to reassure with the word “thank you for waiting”. I indicated that it took far too long and I got back "I know that". Only vegan products on the order screens. No normal products spoil the fries.

Pizza that is not a pizza with an indigestible and heavy dough, I had never seen a margherita pizza with chilli pepper and garlic, before it was called marinara with mozzarella. Too spicy vegan sandwich. I don't recommend it unless. There are no alternatives. Kind staff.

Very cozy masr expected poor service

Passage on 10/17/24 at 2:36 p.m.: Waiting for the person at the checkout (Amber) who is chatting with her friend. We had to interrupt them to see if we could order. We didn't feel welcome with no effort with the language barrier and no explanations. Even worse, mocking smiles while continuing to chat with his girlfriend. Very bad time had... The food was ok but quite expensive especially when you pay for the sauce on top of a menu. Too bad because the park is really good...

Abysmal food, ridiculously overpriced, shamelessly so. Staff seem to have a superiority complex and are rude and unpleasant. Will make a note to steer clear of this place any next time to visit Artis. Artis on the other hand is great and worth it. Too bad this cafe puts such a stain on the experience. You would hope someone at Artis would notice and change whoever runs this cafe.

Shameless prices for disgusting food and the staff is mainly busy chatting and talking to each other. We ran out of something and without discussing it with us, they replaced it with something else...what if we were allergic?! In short, not recommended!!!

The service was terrible. The drink I selected as part of the menu (blueberry lemonade) was not available, so they swapped with ginger juice without informing me, and i hate ginger. When I asked to have a different drink, they replied in a condensending manner that it's similar. The hamburger I had was, unfortunately, tasteless. Lastly, the prices are quite high. The only positive side was the terrace outside. You can eat while observing giraffes and zebras.

on a spiraling downtrend lately. half the menu not available, cannot use member discount unless you order at the cashier, some foods also only available at cashier. no meat options for food, only vegetarian. food selection generally very low. despite the place being overcrowded they kept the entire upstairs closed

Their food is way too expensive and horrible. The service is just as bad as the food a couple of fries will cost you a fortune. Please don't eat here high do not recommend.

Expectations from a zoo restaurant were quite low for me, and they turned out, as usual, not to be unfounded. The gyros is pretty mediocre, the fries are not crispy. The only nice thing was the sight of the lazy lionesses relaxing in the sun.

What a disgusting place, purely because you have nowhere else to go, they can present this with such prices. Artis is ashamed of you. Everything is dirty tables and chairs, your staff is arrogant and lazy. The food is ridiculously expensive, which is nothing compared to Schiphol. Even the monkeys wouldn't want to move here.

I ordered a hamburger menu, took a bite and noticed that I was not eating meat but was eating some chemically rancid plant mix. By the way, it was unclear that it was vegan, much too expensive too, 15 euros for a (not to be eaten) plant burger. Very disappointed, the service was very slow. Lemonade is also not drinkable.

Too much the restaurant is expensive

It was the first time I’ve entered a restaurant without checking in advance the reviews, so shame on me for this! Hopefully you’ll read them before stopping by. The park is so big and I felt so hungry I couldn’t wait to exit the park so I can get a proper meal. There is no clear indication that this place serves only vegetarian food and the naming of the dishes is so fricking misleading. I chose a quattro stagioni pizza, thinking it would be how I expected (with ham), but nooooo, it had only A LOT OF onion, some pepper, some mushrooms. The lemonade included in its price is a joke, it is so diluted and tastes horrible. For the (small) size of the portion and the quality, 13,50 euros is a huge scam. Worst part? I was still hungry …

Disinterested staff, you ask for gluten-free options and you are told: yes, popcorn is gluten-free while you want to eat normally? You ask for the manager, but he is not interested and dives into the back of the kitchen. Very unprofessional, very bad. Food is also very expensive (for vegetarian frozen)

Today I went with a friend who is gluten intolerant. They had no gluten free options. Then suddenly they did, but they didn't feel like making it. A manger who turns his back and hides behind his team. Never come here again!

The table was dirty and so was the food. Many vegetarian or vegan. This was not clearly indicated everywhere. The prices are quite high for food that is not tasty. 15 pieces of fries that were lukewarm and gyros which is not meat but just rubber is not worth this. No thanks, we were not satisfied.

What people don't realise is that most food options ARE VEGETARIAN (even the hot dogs - it's soy instead of meat)!!! Nevertheless, it was a big disappointment, but certainly not the reason to give it one star. Staff was ok, atmosphere also ok. A bit overpriced, and the lemmonade was very diluted. Not bad, but not worth eating here. Especially if you are hungry and crave meat. Bathrooms were a bit stupid.

They have abolished the men's and women's toilets there. Both toilets now have a man and woman logo, so women and young girls cannot enter the toilet without men bothering them. Ridiculous woke nonsense again. First review ever, but this is so bad that I'm writing this one now. I don't go there anymore

Disappointingly bad food, fairly expensive at that. No complaints about the service or the facilities, but we're not going to eat there on our next visit to the park. The hotdog was truly disgusting and the even the fried onions and the Chipotle mayo on top couldn't help. I'm not picky, and I avoid throwing food away, but it was easy to make an exception in this case.

Lovely place to sit, especially easy when you're out with your kids. Very nice place and tasty vegetarian food, highly recommended!

Misleading menu. We ordered the hot dog and thought: what a dirty, tasteless hot dog. But then it turned out to be a vegan hot dog. It's absolutely fine that you offer that, but be transparent and clear about it. And make sure it tastes a bit tasty. Or simply offer good vegetarian meals without trying to imitate meat.

You dont get any food for way too much money... 9 euro for 4 chicken nuggets and 23 fries... Just wow...

Unfortunately, the price and performance are not at all right. The burger ended up in the trash after one bite, which was a shame, but it was inedible. The fries were okay but nothing great either. Only the atmosphere was really nice.

Gluten free fries available with good safety protocol

Half an hour before the restaurant was going to close, the kitchen had to be closed with a croissant without any toppings, terrible. Also when I wanted to pick up my order I had to show my receipt even though the lady had literally seen that I had ordered it.

The food was simply disgusting, you pay 13 euros for 2 croquettes, if you want small fries and something to drink with that you pay almost 25 euros per person. (for the elderly among us: 50 guilders for 2 croquettes, small fries and a glass of lemonade is a gross scandal)

The food is all Vegan, but this is not clearly indicated. I only found out while eating because it tasted strange and disgusting. Hot dog was still cold and quite expensive for such a tasteless thing (9.50). Artis has lost its way a bit, there are also people who just want to eat meat. Furthermore, it disgusts me that during dinner you have a mat with all kinds of edifying stories about how much water is used to make jeans and meat. Stories that aren't even true by the way. If you pay the top price for disgusting, tasteless food, you will also be given a guilt complex by the underwriter. Sorry, but I'm allowed to exist and just have a relaxing day without any hassle, I see that enough in the news. Finally, the toilets also appear not to work, you can go upstairs where there is a queue because of course there are gender-neutral toilets and no urinals for men, which would improve the flow. Just a woke politically correct management there in Artis that does not look at the customer's wishes but pushes its own political agenda down your throat. Shame.

We eat vegetarian a lot, so that is not the problem. But the food you get here is just disgusting. You could also say it's too expensive, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone for free either. For many people this will be their first introduction to meat substitutes. I'm afraid this restaurant is counterproductive to adoption. It is also remarkable that with so many square meters, you have so little seating space. And then they have parts above that are "reserved" that nothing happens to.

We ordered something small a gyros and a hot dog there was nothing wrong with it. When I read the comments here I wonder where different people come from it's fast food people it was good clean conditions nice service. Except the screen didn't say thank you, everything was ok for this zoo. Next time for sure again.price ok Md is more expensive.

Bottle of beer 4.80. On top of that there is a 15 cent deposit. Toilets filthy. Stay away from this place. Not good for your wallet and not good for your mood

Nowhere does it indicate that all their food is vegan. If you order a hamburger for €15, it turns out to be vegan, and you can give your money back. Outright scams. Staff may be dismissed immediately.

Downright bad, the burger was unclearly indicated as a Vega option and was incredibly dirty. Furthermore, staff did not care that the burger was not edible. My advice is find something else. Too bad because the park itself is beautiful!

Lots of vegetarian options, but not really tasty. The vegetarian hot dog has a weird texture and the gyros is bland and soft. Very expensive, you pay extra in addition to the menu if you take a drink that is not water and if you want sauce with your fries. Nice view of the giraffes and zebras.

The coffee shops don't open until 10:00 am, while Artis opens an hour earlier. Coffee comes from a machine and is fine. You can order food and drinks on a computer. We had a cappuccino with oat milk, regular coffee, apple juice and three cookies for €17 with a membership discount.

Ik schrik van de recensies hier. Was me niet opgevallen dat ik alleen vega heb kunnen eten. Had heerlijk broodje oude kaas met van alles aan Amsterdams zuur en dressing erbij. Heb heerlijk gegeten…! Mijn tafelgenoten ook… bestellen kon gewoon aan balie, en eten was snel klaar. Had wel erg honger, maar ook dan smaken rauwe bonen mij doorgaans niet zoet 😉. Misschien hadden ze een goede dag, of valt het allemaal wel beetje mee…

Fine for a quick stop with the kids. Not the cheapest food, but pretty tasty. Fast food style ordering and gets busy over lunch time. Vegan hot dog nice with good sides, tomato soup very tasty.

Oké voor koffie met muffin maar de rest van het vega eten is kwalitatief slecht. Je krijgt weinig voor veel geld! Droge zoute slappe friet met zeer vette vega gyros en slappe groenten met flesje cola ( 16€). De pizza wat smakeloos en zeker veeel te duur voor deze slechte kwaliteit. (12€) Tafels allen vies en wachttijden van bijna een uur op zondag om half 1. Kortom teleurstellend!

Lang wachten op ontzettend duur eten dat uiteindelijk helaas het geld niet waard is.. Volgende keer weer bammetjes mee 🤞🏻

Fijne plek op zich maar in de winter beste om snel wat te eten en dan door. Een dierentuin hoeft ook geen familierestaurant te hebben. In de zomer is het terras wel een ideale plek voor families. Voer alsjeblieft dan de eenden, kraaien, duiven en meeuwen (en na sluitingstijd de ratten) niet. Van mij mogen ze daarvoor bordjes ophangen. Sneu voor kindertjes, maar beter voor de dieren. Personeel alle lof voor hun geduld, want het is aan de kassa de meerderheid nog niet duidelijk wat ze eigenlijk willen.

Ik had de pizza bestelt en ik raad deze echt niet aan, de tomatensaus was net water en smaakte naar jam. Ik zou de pizza’s dus vermijden

Op het dienblad ligt een stichtelijk verhaal over hoeveel water er nodig is voor een spijkerbroek. Ondertussen theezakjes van plastic . . . . En het eten? Een broodje kaas met brede strepen mayonaise er overheen. Wie verzint het! Kortom: milieuonvriendelijk en ongezond.

Mooie plek om koffie en thee met wat lekkers te nuttigen. Jammer dat er geen serviesgoed was want je proeft het karton van de beker. Er werden ook veel snacks, zoals pizza, wraps en friet, geconsumeerd.

Als je van smaakloos vegan eten houd dan zit je hier goed. De gyros heeft enigzins wat smaak maar de burger is totaal kansloos. De pizza is voor ons vlees eters de beste keuze, echter alleen Kaas. En zoals iedereen al zegt, de prijzen zijn hoog.

Geen lactosevrije opties voor in de koffie. Daarnaast is het ontzettend duur voor een broodje kipkerrie wat nergens naar smaakte.

Heel verleidelijk om hier wat te gaan eten en/of drinken maar eigenlijk zou je het niet moeten doen. Slechte service, duur, kwalitatief discutabel. Beteer neem je zelf wat mee of ga je naar De Plantage.

Wij waren er net voor de grote drukte rond lunchtijd. Wij komen altijd voor de goede friet voor de kleine en prima koffie of warme chocomel voor ons. Daarnaast is het altijd leuk om die gezellige Engelse Artis-medewerker tegen te komen!

Prima voor koffie en een muffin!

Leuk gebouw, maar de friet is niet te vreten. Een “grote” friet past in je holle kies en het vet vult je mond. Daarnaast is er ook nog een zeer lullige hoeveelheid saus om de, met vet doordrenkte friet, aan te vullen. Kan iemand deze mensen leren frituren?

Duur en weinig keus, weinig toezicht op opgeruimde en schone tafels.

In de prachtige dierentuin is dit restaurant. Koffie en gebak was erg lekker. Het is allemaal niet goedkoop maar het is wel. Uitzicht op de savanne is leuk. Vanwege Corona zijn de buffetten gesloten en moet je bij de kassa bestellen. Dat duurt lang aanwezig de medewerkers erg traag zijn. Tafels worden ondanks Corona niet door het personeel afgedaan (gedesinfecteerd).

Hele fijne plek voor een lekker kop koffie en uitstekend gebak.
