De Waterkant Restaurant in Weesperbuurt/Plantage

It's a real shame that if you eat here you pay just as much as at McDonald's, but the food wasn't very good, the worst veggie menu there is.

You can only choose vegan, and the items with meat aren't even available to select on the station. I understand that we need to be conscious, but it is annoying when the choice is made for you.

At first, we thought we had found a nice place to eat. The prices are on the very high side, which in hindsight is probably because everything is vegetarian. For 4 people, we spent €70. That was just for sandwiches and drinks. All four of us thought we had ordered "regular" food, but when the tuna salad, burger, and croquettes arrived, they had a strange taste and texture. It turned out everything was vegetarian; in our opinion, this wasn't clearly indicated. Is tuna salad vegetarian? Tuna is fish, after all. Everything tasted good and was of good quality, but it wasn't worth the money. A one-time visit for us.

Only vegan, dirty place, slow ordering system, disorganised. Avoid.

Food options are all vegan... which was disappointing for me. You have 4 kiosks where you can queue and order... Then you wait for your number to pop up on the screen. It wasn't really busy, but the wait was long nevertheless. Went for the pizza, which was a frozen pizza warmed up enough not to be cold, but not enough for it not to be soggy. Fries were also disappointing. Would not recommend

It is all vegan. The staff also seemed slightly irritated, perhaps because it was busy. Asking for napkins was met with a strange response, but otherwise, it is a nice place.

Vegetarian food only, high prices, long waiting times (30 minutes).

Very slow and disorganized, they lost our order and made us wait more than half an hour. The lady who was serving food was mocking me when I asked about my order. Then had to go back because half was missing. Awful experience.

Nice seating area but GIGANTICLY slow. Imagine waiting 30-45 minutes for a portion of fries. I think they could improve something in the preparation process.

Despite everything is vegan, food quality and taste horrible for the price you pay. 16 euro pizza is actually 1 euro frozen pizza from supermarket quality. Same thing with “gyros”

Disgusting food for a lot of money. They don't have meat—it's all vegan. The sausage in the hotdog tastes like paper. The service is terrible. The women at the checkout are mean. My 8-year-old went up to buy chips twice, and they simply ignored him and moved on to the next person in line. Google says they're open until 5:00 PM, but in reality, it's until 4:00 PM. And by 3:30 PM, no one will sell you food! It's ridiculous that the cafe closes 2.5 hours before the zoo closes.

Worst (veggie) burger ever, never again!! Dry bun, crazy amount of tomato, and a tiny drop of sauce. The fries were good, though, but the burger was real trash. How dare you sell it for these prices. It should be banned.

The coffee is okay, the apple pie is a bit mediocre. The apple-to-dough ratio is out of whack. Too much apple, not enough dough. The crust is a bit soggy. Tip: check out Holtkamp for apple pie. Whipped cream is good, though.

Its all vegan food, doesnt explicitly state anywhere on the order kiosk it just has a vegan badge next to all of the food. We though it meant there was a vegan option upon request but it turns out that it is all vegan. Overpriced for what we got, really dissapointed after a day at the zoo. Zoo was wonderful tho ❤️

Everything is vegetarian. Only the croquettes didn't have a vegetarian checkbox on the screen. So I thought maybe these were real croquettes. But no. This was also something vegetarian and was truly disgusting.

It's great that they give people the opportunity to try delicious vegetarian food. People shouldn't be so fussy; you can always go somewhere else for meat.

Top location and top service, I would go to ARTIS purely for this location.

There are poles for ordering food, but much of it wasn't available, so I still had to wait in line. I waited for about half an hour. They were incredibly slow, and everything was way too expensive! And it's all vegan; they force-feed you plant-based food. Having the option to choose would be more friendly. If I'd wanted to eat vegan, I'd be an animal. What a waste of time and money!

High prices and wait times, I can live with that. But the fact that you only offer vegetarian food is outrageous. It's great that there are alternatives for vegetarians, but at the same time, it's discriminatory against people who just want their meat. I often eat vegetarian, so I don't mind that, but it should be my choice where and when I want to eat it. I'm very sensitive to highly chemical and processed foods, which are essentially "plant-based meat." Ultimately, I could only eat fries, which is also a very unhealthy menu—no fruit or vegetables, just junk food. Imagine being allergic to nuts, peanuts, soy, legumes, and even gluten, which are basic ingredients in "plant-based meat," and you, like me, can't eat anything! Vegetarian isn't necessarily healthier or better, it's not for everyone! It should be known before you enter the zoo, so you can bring your own food, but there's no information at the entrance or on the website; you really have to search to find it, and that shouldn't be necessary!

Great for a cup of coffee and such. Not cheap, lots of wasps, and always busy.

A lovely day at Artis Zoo with the kids, followed by a bite to eat at De Waterkant. Almost everything on the menu was vegan, so we took a chance and ordered two pizzas. After shelling out half a month's salary for them, the fun could begin... We didn't. I've never had such a disgusting pizza anywhere. The crust was more like cardboard, and the top was even worse. I left some of it; I'd rather go hungry.

The lions get fed better meals. Only vegan food here.

A very nice place to eat at Artis Zoo. Freshly prepared, gluten-free fries are available upon request. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Great terrace and pleasant seating inside near a lovely playground. Perfect for taking a break during your visit to the zoo.

Skipped the mushroom wrap, got food poisoning. The lettuce in the other dish was just brown. Unfortunately, there aren't many other truly good food options at Artis. So nice to bring your own sandwich.

Had a drink and some chips, sat outside and watched the giraffes! Chips were good, hot and fresh. It was a tad pricey, but you can't beat that view! Highly recommend sitting outside to eat. We did switch the ordering machines to English and some things did stay in Dutch, but it didn't make much difference.

Burger I got was vegan! Nobody warned me! I want my protein...

Well, it's all a bit chilly and uninviting here. That doesn't really matter, but the coffee comes from a vending machine and the apple pie straight from the freezer. Not recommended, though the checkout staff is very friendly!

High price for simple food. Ordered hamburger menu - got vegetarian hamburger. It didn't say anywhere that it was vegetarian, not even on the receipt. Will not eat here again.

This place offends me every time I go there. I’d rather eat some sand from the playground than the “food” at this place. Also way too expensive for that junk they call food. Lastly, that stuff they dared to put on my plate was even cold.

It’s actually terrible. Paid €24 and I would’ve been okay with it for €4. Building is nice though, so it feels like a waste of potential.

View over the water or the giraffes. Even during the holidays, you can always find a seat and fast service. The tables are cleaned every time and they push a few together if you come in with several people. Enough child seats available. Ideal menu for a zoo, little fuss but excellent pizza, croquette and burgers or a piece of cake. Yum yum. And don't forget, every bite is vegetarian! Much better for the animals too :) sweet sweet! While with every bite we think, damn, it's meat, isn't it? Don't know. Kids in the playground and hang out for a while. The best restaurant in the area, but only in Artis. Hey! There goes the zebra! Look!

Disappointing experience at De Waterkant in Artis I recently visited Artis with my family and we decided to eat something at De Waterkant. Unfortunately, this was a big disappointment from start to finish. Upon arrival, we noticed that the atmosphere was anything but welcoming. I walked to the cash register where two employees were standing: a tanned lady and a somewhat heavier woman in a black shirt. I kindly asked what they could recommend from the menu, but was looked at strangely - as if I had asked something crazy. One of them mumbled: "Well, everything is okay here." Not very helpful or enthusiastic. When we wanted to order something, everything turned out to be vegetarian. This was an unpleasant surprise for us; we just wanted a normal meal, not necessarily vegetarian. But anyway, we decided to order anyway. We had: • 1x Margherita pizza • 1x Fish with bread • 1x Croissant with cream and strawberries • 2x children's menu • 1x Croquette sandwich The quality of the food was downright bad. The pizza was soggy and absolutely not worth the money. The fish with bread was dry and had a soapy taste - really inedible. The croissant seemed a few days old, and the 'fresh' cream and strawberries did not make it any better; the strawberries looked almost moldy. The children's menu was the best of all, but even there the chicken nuggets were disappointing: they tasted clearly of soy, which meant that a lot of (vegan!) mayonnaise was needed to make them somewhat tasty. The croquette sandwich was also disappointing - vegetarian of course - with a penetrating smell that made us decide not to even start eating it. As if the food wasn't bad enough, someone came to clean under our table with a mop during our meal. Very inappropriate and disruptive. Unfortunately, we can't say much positive about the staff either. The employees came across as disinterested and unmotivated. It felt like hospitality wasn't on their radar at all. And as if that wasn't enough, we were abruptly asked to leave the restaurant because they were closing. This was done in a rather unfriendly manner by the lady in the black shirt - we literally felt chased away. In short, De Waterkant in Artis was a big disappointment for us. The food was substandard, the staff unfriendly and the atmosphere unpleasant. I certainly wouldn't dare call this a restaurant, and I definitely don't recommend it.

Very pleasant setting. There are ordering terminals that indicate allergens. The service was quick. Lots of seating space. Vegetarian and hearty cuisine, it wasn't exceptional but it didn't kill me not to eat meat for a meal!

Exorbitantly expensive and only vegan. Even just vegan mayo for 70 cents with your 4.50 fries. And to get this shit we had to wait 45 minutes.

Waiting time of almost an hour for a pizza and a burger. Way too expensive. Try to reassure with the word “thank you for waiting”. I indicated that it took far too long and I got back "I know that". Only vegan products on the order screens. No normal products spoil the fries.

Pizza that is not a pizza with an indigestible and heavy dough, I had never seen a margherita pizza with chilli pepper and garlic, before it was called marinara with mozzarella. Too spicy vegan sandwich. I don't recommend it unless. There are no alternatives. Kind staff.

Very cozy masr expected poor service

Passage on 10/17/24 at 2:36 p.m.: Waiting for the person at the checkout (Amber) who is chatting with her friend. We had to interrupt them to see if we could order. We didn't feel welcome with no effort with the language barrier and no explanations. Even worse, mocking smiles while continuing to chat with his girlfriend. Very bad time had... The food was ok but quite expensive especially when you pay for the sauce on top of a menu. Too bad because the park is really good...

Abysmal food, ridiculously overpriced, shamelessly so. Staff seem to have a superiority complex and are rude and unpleasant. Will make a note to steer clear of this place any next time to visit Artis. Artis on the other hand is great and worth it. Too bad this cafe puts such a stain on the experience. You would hope someone at Artis would notice and change whoever runs this cafe.

Shameless prices for disgusting food and the staff is mainly busy chatting and talking to each other. We ran out of something and without discussing it with us, they replaced it with something else...what if we were allergic?! In short, not recommended!!!

The service was terrible. The drink I selected as part of the menu (blueberry lemonade) was not available, so they swapped with ginger juice without informing me, and i hate ginger. When I asked to have a different drink, they replied in a condensending manner that it's similar. The hamburger I had was, unfortunately, tasteless. Lastly, the prices are quite high. The only positive side was the terrace outside. You can eat while observing giraffes and zebras.

Their food is way too expensive and horrible. The service is just as bad as the food a couple of fries will cost you a fortune. Please don't eat here high do not recommend.

Expectations from a zoo restaurant were quite low for me, and they turned out, as usual, not to be unfounded. The gyros is pretty mediocre, the fries are not crispy. The only nice thing was the sight of the lazy lionesses relaxing in the sun.

What a disgusting place, purely because you have nowhere else to go, they can present this with such prices. Artis is ashamed of you. Everything is dirty tables and chairs, your staff is arrogant and lazy. The food is ridiculously expensive, which is nothing compared to Schiphol. Even the monkeys wouldn't want to move here.

I ordered a hamburger menu, took a bite and noticed that I was not eating meat but was eating some chemically rancid plant mix. By the way, it was unclear that it was vegan, much too expensive too, 15 euros for a (not to be eaten) plant burger. Very disappointed, the service was very slow. Lemonade is also not drinkable.

Too much the restaurant is expensive

It was the first time I’ve entered a restaurant without checking in advance the reviews, so shame on me for this! Hopefully you’ll read them before stopping by. The park is so big and I felt so hungry I couldn’t wait to exit the park so I can get a proper meal. There is no clear indication that this place serves only vegetarian food and the naming of the dishes is so fricking misleading. I chose a quattro stagioni pizza, thinking it would be how I expected (with ham), but nooooo, it had only A LOT OF onion, some pepper, some mushrooms. The lemonade included in its price is a joke, it is so diluted and tastes horrible. For the (small) size of the portion and the quality, 13,50 euros is a huge scam. Worst part? I was still hungry …

Disinterested staff, you ask for gluten-free options and you are told: yes, popcorn is gluten-free while you want to eat normally? You ask for the manager, but he is not interested and dives into the back of the kitchen. Very unprofessional, very bad. Food is also very expensive (for vegetarian frozen)

Today I went with a friend who is gluten intolerant. They had no gluten free options. Then suddenly they did, but they didn't feel like making it. A manger who turns his back and hides behind his team. Never come here again!

The table was dirty and so was the food. Many vegetarian or vegan. This was not clearly indicated everywhere. The prices are quite high for food that is not tasty. 15 pieces of fries that were lukewarm and gyros which is not meat but just rubber is not worth this. No thanks, we were not satisfied.

What people don't realise is that most food options ARE VEGETARIAN (even the hot dogs - it's soy instead of meat)!!! Nevertheless, it was a big disappointment, but certainly not the reason to give it one star. Staff was ok, atmosphere also ok. A bit overpriced, and the lemmonade was very diluted. Not bad, but not worth eating here. Especially if you are hungry and crave meat. Bathrooms were a bit stupid.

They have abolished the men's and women's toilets there. Both toilets now have a man and woman logo, so women and young girls cannot enter the toilet without men bothering them. Ridiculous woke nonsense again. First review ever, but this is so bad that I'm writing this one now. I don't go there anymore

Disappointingly bad food, fairly expensive at that. No complaints about the service or the facilities, but we're not going to eat there on our next visit to the park. The hotdog was truly disgusting and the even the fried onions and the Chipotle mayo on top couldn't help. I'm not picky, and I avoid throwing food away, but it was easy to make an exception in this case.

Lovely place to sit, especially easy when you're out with your kids. Very nice place and tasty vegetarian food, highly recommended!

Misleading menu. We ordered the hot dog and thought: what a dirty, tasteless hot dog. But then it turned out to be a vegan hot dog. It's absolutely fine that you offer that, but be transparent and clear about it. And make sure it tastes a bit tasty. Or simply offer good vegetarian meals without trying to imitate meat.

You dont get any food for way too much money... 9 euro for 4 chicken nuggets and 23 fries... Just wow...

Unfortunately, the price and performance are not at all right. The burger ended up in the trash after one bite, which was a shame, but it was inedible. The fries were okay but nothing great either. Only the atmosphere was really nice.

Gluten free fries available with good safety protocol

Half an hour before the restaurant was going to close, the kitchen had to be closed with a croissant without any toppings, terrible. Also when I wanted to pick up my order I had to show my receipt even though the lady had literally seen that I had ordered it.

The food was simply disgusting, you pay 13 euros for 2 croquettes, if you want small fries and something to drink with that you pay almost 25 euros per person. (for the elderly among us: 50 guilders for 2 croquettes, small fries and a glass of lemonade is a gross scandal)
