Donna Pazzo in Centrum

On Saturday, January 10th, we dined at Donna Pazzo for the first time with four people. The first impression of the location is very good. A historic building with an atmospherically decorated dining room. We were welcomed politely but dutifully and escorted to our table. I think "dutiful" best describes the service for the rest of the evening. Just polite, but never with the flair you would expect in an Italian Osteria. What stood out was that the restaurant was very empty from 7:30 PM for a Saturday night. As for the food, it was okay, but nothing more than that. As antipasti, we had the carpaccio twice and the bruschetta twice. Apparently, we didn't read the menu properly, because upon serving, we discovered it was a beetroot carpaccio; the taste was good. The bruschetta was perceived as ordinary. The main course was a pasta with prawns, which was considered good. The same goes for the salmon. The beef tenderloin was decent, ranging from tender to somewhat tough and not particularly special in terms of flavor. The risotto tasted good, but even for a primi, the portion was very small. "That was three bites," someone at our table said. Finally, the dolce, which consisted of 3 cheese platters and 1 panna cotta. The latter was good. The cheese platters were okay, with only the blue cheese really standing out in terms of taste sensation. The other cheeses were blander in flavor and tasted fairly similar. All in all, not quite the dinner we had expected. It is a shame, because the location and ambiance of Donna Pazzo are truly amazing. I hope they can improve on these points, as the competition from good Italian restaurants like Safino and Il Boccone is quite fierce. We might give Donna Pazzo another chance; the courtyard seems like a great place to eat sometime when the weather is nice.

Unfortunately, our experience was anything but positive. Within 24 hours of dinner, four of the six people became seriously ill. Because we consider it important to report this in a polite and constructive manner, we immediately informed the restaurant via email — with all relevant details, not out of anger, but to give them the opportunity to investigate this internally. To our disappointment, we only received a brief reply three days later containing only the statement: “Thank you for the information, we will monitor this internally.” Not a single word of understanding, sympathy, or apology was offered. We understand that food-related issues can sometimes occur, but the way a restaurant handles such reports says a lot about their professionalism and customer focus. In this case, we did not feel taken seriously. The food itself was fine that evening, but the aftermath and poor communication unfortunately completely overshadowed our experience.

Had a wonderful evening with incredibly friendly service and surprising dishes. The homemade bread and beef tenderloin stood out in particular!

I had a wonderful meal with a large group in a beautiful private dining room. We received a warm welcome from a staff member who showed us to our table. The food was fantastic, and the staff were excellent. The time between courses was perfectly coordinated with the atmosphere. A truly fantastic experience and highly recommended!

This isn't a real Italian restaurant! The open kitchen is a sham. Most dishes are already prepared and delivered. Just need to reheat or fry the tenderloin. It's certainly not flavorful. Bland fish with mango, overly salty pasta with shrimp, a hunk of tenderloin, and soggy tiramisu. The service makes up for a lot, as they're all young; there are no real chefs who serve well and are friendly. So, the website with the nice story is far from true. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but the food needs serious improvement.

My father and I had a wonderful meal in the charming courtyard garden. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The wine selection is extensive and delicious. We definitely recommend this restaurant! And we'll definitely be back :)

What a lovely courtyard garden, very atmospheric. The service is good, but it's a shame that many things were no longer available. The desserts were also a disappointment. The food looks very nice, but the taste could be much better. The risotto was incredibly salty, and the desserts were a bit of a disappointment. The wines were good, though. We didn't find the price-quality ratio appropriate. It's nice that there are new menus every time, which gives you variety.

Beautiful, atmospheric location, good service, but all four of us found the food mediocre: the vitello tonnato and lasagna were too dry, the risotto too salty, and the tiramisu too wet. We're all Italian food lovers, but this was simply not good. Three very young chefs in the kitchen, I wondered, "Where's the chef?" We had a lovely outdoor seating, but it was a shame about the (intermittent) smell of sewage and marijuana.

Had a wonderful evening yesterday, sitting on the outdoor patio (courtyard). The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is delicious, although some dishes don't quite live up to their stated standards. The spaghetti was overcooked, and the bavette was almost raw. The staff is super friendly, but they also don't nearly live up to their stated standards. From grabbing a wine glass with your full hand to presenting a bottle of cola directly in the glass where it's about to be poured, it's all unacceptable. Dishes were also served on plates with chunks missing. Overall, a great evening with friends, but overpriced for the quality of the presentation. Work to be done. Good luck!!

We had dinner here last night and we were delighted by the selection of fresh dishes, the charming staff, and the nice interior.

Zonder voorkennis gingen we hier eten. Prachtig pand en hartelijke ontvangst door een zichtbaar zwangere gastvrouw die onze jassen aannam. Opvallend jong team in zowel de bediening als de keuken. Wisselende kaart met op papier mooie gerechten: vitello tonato oké, helaas iets te zuur. Trio van asperges meer dan prima! Linguine met garnalen en rode peper olie perfect qua smaak en gaarheid. Beetje jammer dat er krulpeterselie op werd gedaan. De ravioli ragu met truffelsaus was écht te zout. De ribeye was prima met mooie bijlagen; groene asperges en een aardappeltaartje. Alles bijeen een fijne avond met prima prijs kwaliteit. Gezien de verschillende recensies die we achteraf lazen is de kwaliteit echter sterk wisselend. Wellicht heeft dat met de ervaring van het team te maken?!!

What a super nice place! Located in a beautiful, attractive building. Unfortunately, the building was covered in scaffolding, so we could not sit outside on the terrace. Fortunately, it is also very atmospheric inside. My daughter and I took the 3-course menu. We started with burrata, then we had ravioli with rum meat and truffle and we finished with the ribeye with green asparagus. It all tasted delicious!

Did I like it? Yes. Did I find it overpriced? Yes. The restaurant is in a beautiful building and has a nice atmosphere. Yes, the food was tasty but basic. The service was good, but that could also be because there were few guests. We ate here on a Friday night and there was still plenty of room. The concept is nice, but the execution could be a bit better. It definitely has potential!

My friend and I enjoyed a four-course meal. We started with fish tartare, followed by risotto carbonara, which was delicious, and the rice was also perfectly cooked. We both had cod for our main course. For dessert, we had tiramisu and apple pie. The latter was very hot, having just come out of the oven. We had to wait a while before we could eat it, but it was worth the wait. We opted for a matching wine pairing. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was all very flavorful. In short, we had a wonderful evening and will definitely be back.

From the moment we entered the restaurant, you could almost taste the staff's uncertainty and the guests' discomfort, and the first course quickly revealed why. You go to an Osteria for quality food, but it's clear the staff has never traveled to Italy to eat at one. The tagliatelle was completely overcooked, and the shrimp were bone dry. The dish was supposed to contain a bisque, but it tasted as if a simple herb cheese had been used. Whether that was the case, I have no idea, but I'd prefer the opposite. My dining companion's risotto was also dry and far too salty. And then the showpiece, the bavette. Here, it became clear to me that the kitchen lacked experience and seniority. The cooking was completely out of balance; one piece was bone dry and the other was raw. The chef serving this apparently doesn't know how to deliver the dish, so I'd suggest the owner purchase a sous vide system; that way, at least they can't go so horribly wrong. I really felt sorry for the staff. You can tell they're eager to do a good job, but are still far too inexperienced. Opening a bottle of wine proved challenging enough, so you can probably guess that they had absolutely no sense of what the table needs. I don't like to complain online after the fact, but when you're sitting at a table with your in-laws, you keep your mouth shut and maintain peace. If I had been dining here alone, I would have liked to give the owner the following advice: read the reviews and take a good look in the mirror. Do better for your own staff, because they don't deserve this. Take a trip to Piedmont with them and experience what an Osteria should taste like. Go for it!

Had a wonderful evening with delicious dishes, friendly and sincere service in a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is concise and changes regularly. We chose the 4 course menu. The dishes are pure, without unnecessary frills, made from good ingredients, well prepared. Matching wines, great service, reasonable price, in short, a great evening!

Beautiful restaurant! Very hospitably received. Small menu, which changes monthly. Despite the crowds, the service was very friendly and alert. We opted for a 4-course menu. Melanzane alle parmigiane and the carpaccio were delicious. You can taste the spaghetti served al dente and prepared with fresh ingredients. The bavette is excellently cooked. Nice place to go. Mijn verwachtingen waren al niet heel hoog na het zien van andere reviews, maar dit restaurant is echt een zwaar dieptepunt voor Italiaans eten. Zoals al vaker genoemd zijn dit studenten die een zaak runnen en in de keuken staan, hier is geen serieuze kok aanwezig en dat is aan het eten ook goed te merken. Voorgerecht: carpaccio. Ik krijg een bord met grijs vlees en wat salade erop. Dit is een uitgedroogde roast beef, geen idee hoe ze dit carpaccio durven te noemen. Ze snappen toch zelf ook wel dat als je een bord met grijs vlees serveert dat dat niet de bedoeling van een carpaccio is!? Eerste gang: risotto. Zo uit een pakje en dan nog zo weinig gekookt dat de korrels nog keihard zijn. Tweede gang: bavette. Helemaal niet gekookt en bijna rauw op het bord, simpelweg niet te eten. Knap dat een carpaccio grijs op het bord komt maar ze een bavette helemaal vergeten te koken. Nagerecht: tiramisu. Een hoop room met wat cacao erop en de lange vingers keihard onderin. Vergeten in koffie / drank te dippen lijkt het. Kortom elk gerecht weten ze op grandioze wijze te verpesten, iets dat ik bij Italiaans eten niet voor mogelijk hield en ik ook nooit op dergelijk extreme wijze heb meegemaakt. Dit is by far het slechtste Italiaanse restaurant waar ik in mijn leven ben geweest en ik weet ook zeker dat dit nooit meer gaat worden overtroffen. Onvrede ook duidelijk aangegeven bij de bediening, maar zoals meerdere mensen aangegeven boeit dat ze inderdaad niet en wordt er zelfs gezucht. Bespaar jezelf een ramp en sla deze plek absoluut over, elk ander Italiaans restaurant in Arnhem is beter en heeft niet eens dit prijskaartje, gewoonweg bizar.

Friendly staff and a kitchen/cooks that took dietary requirements perfectly into account. They really understood what I could and could not eat. Good card! I had a delicious meal and felt more than welcome as a solo guest. Top!

My expectations were not very high after seeing other reviews, but this restaurant is really a low point for Italian food. As mentioned before, these are students who run a business and work in the kitchen. There is no serious chef here and that is clearly noticeable in the food. Starter: carpaccio. I get a plate of gray meat and some salad on it. This is a dehydrated roast beef, I have no idea what they dare to call this carpaccio. Don't they understand that if you serve a plate of gray meat, that is not the purpose of a carpaccio!? First course: risotto. Straight from a package and cooked so little that the grains are still rock hard. Second course: bavette. Not cooked at all and almost raw on the plate, simply unedible. It's amazing that a carpaccio comes out gray on the plate, but they completely forget to cook a bavette. Dessert: tiramisu. A lot of cream with some cocoa on top and the ladyfingers rock hard at the bottom. Forgot to dip in coffee/drink it seems. In short, they manage to ruin every dish in a spectacular way, something that I did not think possible with Italian food and have never experienced in such an extreme way. This is by far the worst Italian restaurant I have been to in my life and I am sure it will never be bettered. Dissatisfaction is also clearly indicated at the service, but as several people indicated, they are indeed not concerned and there are even sighs. Save yourself a disaster and definitely skip this place, every other Italian restaurant in Arnhem is better and doesn't even have this price tag, simply bizarre.

Het restaurant zelf is heel mooi maar het eten past niet bij de setting. Het is Italiaans maar ik denk dat een Italiaan hier niet blij van wordt. Ik ook niet. Nu 3 keer geweest. Eerste keer was het lekker maar afgelopen 2 keer echt niet goed. Pasta zou niet zo moeilijk moeten zijn maar mij smaakte het totaal niet. Bediening doet zijn best maar is weinig ervaren. Wijn was wel lekker maar ja, die hebben ze niet zelf gemaakt. Er zijn veel betere opties in Arnhem als je Italiaans wilt eten.

Upon entering we were politely helped by a young man. The atmosphere quickly changed when we were helped by a female servant. She clearly didn't feel like it. We had to ask for the wine list twice and each time she sighed. It's a shame that such a beautiful place has sour service.

Unfortunately, open bottle of wines were not allowed to be tasted, the tone in which this was stated was not okay. The owner then no longer wanted to help us and left it to her staff. Surcharge for a dish on the menu was not mentioned on the menu, but it was mentioned on the bill... not worth repeating

Are you looking for culinary Italian cuisine and friendly service? Then you have NOT come to the right place. I could make it a long story but I'll keep it short, the dishes were cold just like the service. It wasn't busy, there were still many tables available. How does this happen?

With 4 people we spent 245 and then we expect more as Italy enthusiasts and are really not very critical. This restaurant has a lot of potential, but the kitchen needs to be drastically improved!

Delicious food, nice wines, good service. The atmosphere in the old building is beautiful. It is noisy and difficult to solve, perhaps with wall panels or wallpaper.

Disappointing! What started as a hopeful evening out for dinner ended disappointingly for me. Beautiful ambiance, hospitable reception. Small menu and choice of 3 or 4 course menu. We chose the vitello and melanzane as a starter, not bad but the melanzane had a fairly bland taste. It was communicated in advance that the ravioli had run out and we could opt for spaghetti aglio e oil instead. Possibly with scampi. We both opted for that, since the ravioli was also with fish, we wanted it with scampi. Excellent snack. My girlfriend had the salmon as a main course and I had the game pan. Both my meat and red cabbage and puree were dry, the bimi was burnt. I ate 3 bites of the dish. The salmon was undercooked, more than half was raw. We didn't eat any more. It was passed on to the chef and that was it. No solution, no cup of coffee or dessert on the house, no excuses. In fact, my girlfriend should have indicated in advance that she wanted the salmon well done. According to the kitchen, there was nothing wrong with my dish. Outside we saw that in addition to the price of a 3 course menu, an extra 9 euros had been charged for the scampi, Without making this known in advance. This was once and never again for me.

Unexpected party. Tonight we had a 2-course menu, with burrata and nectarine as a starter and risotto with guanciale as a main course. Enjoyed every bite! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the decor is nice and intimate. I'll be back, soon!

Na een jaar weer eens een avond bij Donna Pazzo doorgebracht. De binnentuin was op de nazomeravond een prima plaats. De rosé was oké. Het eten, daar kwamen we voor was dit keer minder. Een klein zesje echt niet meer. Jammer de locatie biedt zoveel mogelijkheden, ook de bediening kan wel wat beter. De kaart beperkt, niet mis mee als de kwaliteit top is. Nu was de smaak vlak waardoor de Italiaanse keuken niet tot zijn recht kwam. Jammer, wij laten Donna Pazzo links liggen.

mooi restaurant met aangename binnentuin. een aantal keren gegeten, eerlijk, zorgvuldig en subtiel zijn kwalificaties die opkomen. variatie kaart zou een fractie gevarieerder mogen zijn. selectie wijn is ook prima.

The menu is a creative mix of traditional and modern Italian dishes. I tried the truffle tagliatelle and it was fantastic. The wines are perfectly selected and complement each dish beautifully. Finally, it is the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a nice evening with friends. I can't wait to return and taste more of the delicious dishes. Nice place, good wine for a fair price. Unfortunately very tasteless food. The tagliatelle was overcooked at least 3 times, tasteless and dry. The guinea fowl was also far too cooked. Correctly responded/handled by the waiter, but worthless that you as a chef dare to serve these dishes. Not worth repeating, too bad

Ate here recently, it was a big disappointment for me. First course was the steak. To my surprise it was a tartare. That's fine, but it was completely tasteless. Second course was the risotto. That was the biggest disappointment as far as I was concerned; three tablespoons with just some lemon and peas in it. Luckily there was salt and olive oil on the table. The third dish was again a disappointment for me. Fish of the day served on some cauliflower and broccoli and some beurre blanc. Very nicely described, but it could just as easily have been a hospital dinner in terms of flavors. When you eat in company you usually keep these kinds of things to yourself, but with us it was unanimous for the entire group. The tiramisu was tasty, but my table companions fared very poorly on the other desserts that were available. I think the menu shows very little taste and creativity. Not worth repeating for us and certainly not recommended given the price. By the way, it was very hot in the restaurant and we all had sweat on our foreheads. Beautiful location and excellent decoration, hence two stars.

Fantastic meal! Dishes are of very good quality and so is the service. Location is perfect and the dishes are affordable. Conveniently displayed in Menus where you have the option for 2, 3 or 4 courses.

Als je denkt bij een echt Italiaans professioneel restaurant te gaan eten, kom je zeer bedrogen uit. Er staat ofwel geen echte kok of het zijn studentes die er nog wat van proberen te maken. Bedroevend hoe zo’n mooie plek zo’n werkelijk slechte amateuristische kwaliteit probeert uit te venten. Is hier sprake van personeels ofwel keuken tekort! Dit kan echt niet!!! Je betaalt de normale horecaprijzen maar krijgt er een armoedig studentenmaaltijd voor terug. Schande!!

Heel slecht eten. Als je weet hoe Italiaans eten hoort te zijn, belandt je gewoon in een soort studentenhuis. Er moet hier echt een professionele kok komen. Blijkbaar is die er nu niet en kan je niet wegkomen met een paar jonge werkstudenten die een paar suausjes over de pasta knallen. Stop of verander deze zaak! Anders is het voorbij!

Great service, very friendly but the food was bad. Was here with my girlfriend and we found the main courses very boring and tasteless. Unfortunately the deserts were really bad. The tiramisu consisted almost exclusively of mascarpone and the cheesecake was grainy, tasteless, dry and very hard. Too bad the food wasn't as good as the service.

Great value for money. One of the most original Italian menus you can find in Arnhem. Great wine list. Very special building as well. Plus a nice music carpet of easy-listening Italian music.

I didn't think that as an Amsterdammer I would fall in love in Arnhem, but it just happened! You can tell from the taste of the food that everything has been prepared with love, effort and knowledge. Much respect to the owner who keeps her head above the sand in these difficult times for the catering industry and still delivers such quality and smile at the table. Definitely come back here more often!

I recently enjoyed the delicious food here. The tiramisu was absolutely delicious, every bite was a flavor explosion of soft mascarpone and soaked ladyfingers. It was the perfect ending to a great meal. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and inviting, and the food was excellent. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Italian flavors. I can't wait to go back!

Eenvoudig diner voor de voorstelling, komen voor de eerste keer. Mooie zaak, stijlvol ingericht. De tartaar van biet is lekker, smaakvol en gevarieerd. De vitello is schaamteloos slecht, een paar plakjes droog vlees met vier toefjes onduidelijke tonnato en oude rucola. De bodem wordt bereikt met de primo, pasta vongole, pasta uit een pakje, zes schelpjes ieder op een smaakloos soepje dat waarschijnlijk gewoon kookvocht is. Met een flesje wit mocht ik toch gewoon €115 aftikken. Eens maar nooit meer.

The place looks good.......but it all ends there, they present you the wine without knowing what you want to order, the portions are small, small we took two asparagus risottos, portions of about 50 grams, they were super overcooked, for not to mention the spaghetti with clams had no taste and even there 50 grams no more than that, on the other hand the bill was super generous......😭a place like this in Italy or France closes in one day.....

This restaurant was recommended to us by an Arnhemmer and he was absolutely right. My daughter and I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the delicious food and the friendly welcome. Highly recommended.

Rarely have you had such a bad meal in such a beautiful Arnhem building! Such a pity! Scales on my fish, raw meat and then being told that this is how it should be...yuck!

Had a very successful evening at Donna Pazzo on Wednesday. Married for 30 years and in Arnhem for the first time. We looked for a nice restaurant for a nice dinner. Well, we did it. What a beautiful ambience. The hostess and service were very friendly and helpful. And last but not least, we had a delicious meal. The wine list is also recommended. We ate here on Boxing Day. We were kindly welcomed and taken to the table. It took a while before we could order our aperitif and we were really looking forward to starting with a nice bubble. The boy at the table indicated that she served a cava by the glass (?) surprised by the Spaniard, this seemed like a bit of confusion but it turned out to be a spumante, it can happen. Then we received no attention, we expected some more explanation about the concept/menu, but the next communication with the staff was whether we already knew whether we wanted fish or meat? I had seen on the website that there was a 3 or 4 course menu for about 40-50E. Now it turned out that there was only a 5-course Christmas menu for 80 pp (price was not listed, but of course it was on the bill). The lady also told us that a number of dishes were already finished.(??????) Very special when you serve a menu and force people to eat 5 courses. We had some questions about the wine, we had already indicated that we knew something about it, but the waiter still bluffed his way through the wine list. not smart, ask a colleague who knows about this. Does not matter. as a starter we had the vitello tonnato, which was cold and very dry, the second course was Rigatoni putanesca, which was far too al dente (not cooked) and tasted like deep frying, not tasty and left alone. When the waiter came to clear the table he very smartly asked if we were done? NOT if it would have tasted good. Main course was guinea fowl, which was wonderfully tender but further tufted on the plate with a small carrot and stripes. Dessert was fine, but all in all I have no idea why we had to pay so much money for this, purely because it is Christmas. Very sorry. We love Italian but unfortunately we won't be back here again.

Went with high expectations, unfortunately they were not met. The risotto was dry and undercooked, with little taste. The veal steak was dry and tough, lacked any gravy and had no salt or pepper on it. The polenta was very hard fried/fried. Mentioned it to the waitress and got a scroppino on the house, which was very nice. But unfortunately not worth repeating.

Best Italian food in Arnhem. The atmosphere outside in the summer is optimal. Suggestion: menu + recommended wines.

Excellent restaurant for an evening-filling culinary experience.

We had a wonderful evening at Donna Pazzo. Fine Italian in a beautiful and attractive building. A few minor comments about the food, but above all a very positive experience. My starter of burrata di puglia was surprisingly tasty, made with a zucchini cream and roasted tomatoes. The burrata itself just came out of the refrigerator and was a bit too cold. Entree of spaghetti con nduja was a lot spicier than expected. That was not communicated, I was also not familiar with the specific sausage in the dish. I can handle spicy food just fine, I don't mind continuing. But this was just a bit too much. Should have been communicated. The saltimbocca di farona was a delicious tender guinea fowl with excellent garnish. Finally the tiramisu, one of the best I've eaten! Clearly did not come from the refrigerator, but freshly made and therefore not soggy or wet, but creamy with a bite. Delicious.
