unprecedented atmosphere, glass is never empty so excellent service

I had a coffee and a toasted sandwich here on the terrace. Nothing special, you get what you ask for and no fuss, which is probably why everything is reasonably priced. The toasted sandwich was nice and fresh and crispy, the coffee was hot, and the service was friendly. Highly recommended.

The food was overpriced and the service was absolutely terrible. We asked for the menu twice and nobody brought it to us, so we had to get it ourselves. After the food arrived, we waited a long time for cutlery while the food was getting cold, and eventually had to fetch the utensils ourselves as well. To make matters worse, the cutlery pack did not include a spoon. I went to the reception desk to politely ask where I could get one. The owner suddenly shouted at me, telling me to go back to my table and wait for a waiter, saying “this is not a questionnaire.” I was shocked and explained that I only needed a spoon to feed my baby, but he continued aggressively venting his frustration at me in a very rude manner. Another staff member later asked me what had happened, and the owner rushed over again yelling, “We only serve guests, come back with me.” I have never experienced service this appalling and disrespectful. Completely unacceptable.

Today we had a very disappointing experience. We had to wait 40 minutes for a sandwich, even though the terrace was only occupied by about eight tables. We weren't helped until 15 minutes later, and the service seemed chaotic, inexperienced, and disinterested. For my roommate (vegan, with allergies, and a vegetarian), there was absolutely no alternative available. The staff said they would look into what was available, but after 25 minutes, we were told they couldn't offer anything. No one seemed to know exactly what was on the menu or what the ingredients were. When the food finally arrived, it was mediocre – definitely not worth the long wait. We even ended up going to the döner restaurant because my table companion couldn't eat anything there. All in all, a chaotic, unfriendly, and disappointing experience. It's a shame, because the location had potential, but the service and food left a lot to be desired.

I was standing in Piet's Voortuin at 4:58 in the morning... It wasn't open last Sunday. 1 star.
