Fantastic location with friendly staff, fast service, and delicious food

Unfortunately, a very disappointing experience at De Bonte Haas. My friend had a fried egg sandwich that was served cold, and my mother's steak sandwich was cold as well. I had ordered a carpaccio sandwich myself. With a dish like that, you think: this really can't go wrong. Unfortunately, it had bacon on it, even though this was not indicated on the menu. Because I don't eat bacon, I called the staff over. Fortunately, they honestly admitted that it was their mistake. The sandwich was eventually removed from the bill, but unfortunately, nothing else was offered as a replacement. As a result, I ended up going home without food and hungry. I find that quite disappointing, especially after a mistake from the kitchen. I used to come here regularly and always had good experiences, but unfortunately, the place has apparently been taken over, and as far as I'm concerned, you can clearly see the difference there. What was once a nice place now unfortunately feels like faded glory. For us, this was definitely the last time. Based on this experience, I would unfortunately not recommend De Bonte Haas.

The location is beautiful, with a lovely and atmospheric terrace by the water! The food was very tasty; the satay and mussels are especially highly recommended! The service is friendly and you are served quickly. In short: a cozy place, delicious food, and great service. Definitely worth a visit!

At 9:30 PM, the last round has already been served, and unfortunately, as walkers, you are no longer welcome on the terrace for a drink. Apparently, business is going so well that the staff would rather send you away.

Rented a boat including a picnic basket full of goodies! Great experience and good service, the snacks were delicious.

Top location by the water, with a very large terrace and an extensive menu. Friendly staff. Renting a sloop is also highly recommended; the picnic basket is very generously filled. Children can play extensively and there is even a small farm.

Nice place to have lunch if you are out for a bike ride in the Westland.

The snack platter for 2 people cost €27.50 and was particularly greasy. We had to get the napkins and cutlery ourselves. Worse were the many black flies that were attracted to it. Never again.

We had received an expired gift voucher. This voucher was purchased 6 years ago for a full day of boating. However, the first "owner" never used the voucher due to illness that resulted in their death. The voucher was eventually passed on, but this lady also became ill and eventually passed away as well. The voucher was found after some time and given to us. Unfortunately, that voucher was no longer valid because De Bonte Haas was taken over in 2024 and because business was conducted with a different rental company at the time. The value of our voucher was 150 euros back then (6 years ago), and that amount for a day of boating has now doubled to 325 euros for a Sunday. After some email contact, asking if they would be willing to make any concessions, we were told that they unfortunately could not do so. We wanted to come for dinner with 10 people and also book the lunch package on the boat, but apparently that was not a reason to make any concessions either. Nevertheless, we ate there last week on a very busy evening. The meal took a long time, my friend's beer arrived much later than my drink, and they had forgotten the whipped cream with the dessert. We noticed this afterwards because another table had ordered the same dessert. The service is really friendly, nothing to complain about. We asked the owner, Matthijs, if he could come to our table for 2 minutes, but we didn't see him. A friendly colleague explained a few things to us because we had decided to rent a boat after all. I had to send an email requesting that we wanted to rent a sloop and for when. I did that right at the table. On Tuesday, still no response (and we wanted to rent for Sunday, July 19). I decided to call anyway and got sort of slammed. That if he was busy serving people, it would be difficult for him to look at the email. Strange answer. They are closed on Mondays; that would have been a great opportunity to answer your customers!! On Wednesday, still no message back, so no idea if the sloop was available. After a very angry phone call from my friend, I got an answer within half an hour. Responded immediately, sent what was needed, asked if we could use the boat a bit later and if we could reserve a table for 10 for dinner upon our return. Just no response again. How rude!!! We cancelled the boat on Friday. A because the weather supposedly wasn't great and B because I don't think you can treat your customers like that!! We bring in good money but apparently they don't need it. Very disappointing because the location is top-notch. But never again the Bonte Haas for us!

A beautiful location, but the service was not top-notch. Part of the ordered menu was not served, and after pointing it out a second time, the remainder was added, but the food was cold as a result. Fries were served 10 minutes late, by which time the meat was already cold, and the steak was supposed to be medium but was well-done; in short, a disappointment. 1 star for the location

Had fresh mussels today Delicious, worth repeating

It was a pleasant atmosphere. We sat on the terrace. The staff was quick and friendly. The menu selection was sufficient. Despite the crowds, our food was served quickly and tasted good. I only found the dessert a bit disappointing.

I ordered a salad with salmon, shrimp, and tuna for 20 euros. I was supposed to pay an extra 2 euros for bread, but I decided against it. The lettuce had many brown pieces and looked unappetizing. When I mentioned it, my plate was sent back to the kitchen. They returned with the same plate, stating that it had been delivered that way by the supplier. I do not accept that, so I was allowed to order an alternative. I chose satay and for 20 euros I received one skewer with too little satay sauce, very little pickled vegetables (atjar), a few pieces of prawn crackers (kroepoek), and a small piece of bread. Severely overpaid for what you get. The terrace is lovely, but I won't be coming back here. It's a shame, because in the past I had a great time here with friends on several occasions.

Was here for dinner with colleagues. Much of the food looks good. I try to eat vegetarian as much as possible and went for the vegetarian options. Unfortunately, there were meatballs in the tomato soup and the veggie burger I ordered was unavailable. A big letdown for the vegetarians. Otherwise, the atmosphere is cozy and the service is friendly.

Nice restaurant, that’s all there is to say. We had to ask if they would take our order. Ordered goat cheese focaccia without honey; the cheese looked like it had honey on it, but turned out to be sugar. Order returned. New order, a long black hair in the food, returned again. My companions had finished eating by then, received a lame excuse, and left on an empty stomach; from a hospitality perspective, you would expect at least a cup of coffee to be offered in that situation. The bill was paid without a tip. A shame, beautiful location, but not a second time.

27 euros for a schnitzel without a side dish! 5 euros for some fries on the side. In short, 32 euros for a schnitzel. The terrace is great, but this Haas really takes it too far.

After waiting for 2 hours, we decided to just leave! We did receive a phone call in the meantime, though. Apologies. It was an unfortunate day. An offer to come by again. However, we were only in the area for a short time. We certainly appreciated it.

A strange result perhaps, but we went with a group and the price doubled. 37 euros for a satay or a hamburger and dame blanche, while the menu indicates 23 + 10. So DON'T DO IT. Just choose the set menu. Moreover, you had to pay extra for extra bacon on the hamburger. On top of that, the fries only arrived after everything was already finished. A logistical problem, and that was already the fact that it took 20 minutes to arrive beforehand. And that's just for a bun with spreads. Nothing about the atmosphere and service. That was top-notch. But anyone looking to make money here is a bit lost, in my opinion.

Had a nice meal. Salmon as the main course. Fries, salad, or vegetables are side dishes that you have to pay for separately. That makes it quite expensive. Had a nice meal, but the prices are no longer what was mentioned above for someone with an average budget.

Good service and delicious food, we had plenty of time

My experience at De Bonte Haas was unfortunately somewhat less positive. My girlfriend had a well-done steak that was very dry. Additionally, there was a hair in the food, which was very annoying. We were offered the option to choose another dish, but no apologies were made and there was no further compensation. They really could have handled this better...

We went for lunch yesterday; it was very busy. You expect it to take a little longer to receive your food then, but we waited well over 1.5 hours for a carpaccio sandwich and a fried egg. Absolutely ridiculous. If you can't handle the number of guests, you have to put a limit on what you can accommodate and start working according to what you can serve. The ladies were friendly, mind you, and the food was tasty, but we were ready to leave. We arrived just before 1:00 PM and left at 3:00 PM.

Pleasant terrace along the bike path. Large bicycle parking with plenty of spots to lock your bike. Friendly service and a delicious cappuccino with a tasty cookie on the side.

Not a bad menu, but the Sandwich with Colorful Egg Salad we ordered today absolutely trumped everything. One slice of brown bread (they were apparently out of brown rolls) with a decent layer of egg salad and a few cucumber slices for €13. Come on, guys, this slice of bread was truly embarrassing. Your competitors offer significantly more bread and "delicious" fare for a better price. What a shame!

The service was friendly and good, and the food was also very good. I had pork tenderloin satay myself; it was tender with a good satay sauce. My partner had the steak, which was very tender and beautifully medium-rare. The fries were truly outstanding; it has been a long time since I had such tasty fries.

Nice restaurant, but they don't live up to their name. We were there for a cup of coffee. After ordering, it took 20 minutes for it to be delivered. Sorry, we don't consider that service-minded.

I was part of a private party. The food was very good, and the staff was friendly. There were hardly any free tables, a sign that the café is popular. It's definitely advisable to make a reservation.

New menu, new opportunities, you might say...we come here regularly. The July monthly menu is great if you like mussels, but it's a shame the fries were forgotten; the staff had to point them out themselves. The classics are served without a side dish (fries or something similar); you have to ask for them yourself. The beef steak pan is also gone, unfortunately. It's now served with limp grilled vegetables. For me, that's not an improvement. It's a shame, I understand that changes need to be made and that the prices need to be adjusted, but this is too much for us. :-(

Delicious chicken satay, neatly presented, could have used a bit more satay sauce. The fries were nice and crispy. The service was super friendly and fast. The only downside was it was a bit cold; we had a table by the door, and many smokers kept passing by, resulting in cold air inside.

Great cafe for a drink, snack or party!

Overall, a great restaurant with friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. I wouldn't recommend the bao buns; the cabbage was old and the bun was too dry. Otherwise, the food was delicious, and the portions were very generous! I also found the service too focused on upselling.

Friendly, efficient staff. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors. Enjoy the morning sun with good coffee, breakfast, or other delicious (healthy) dishes. Easily accessible by car (limited free parking, but busy depending on the time of day). There's a small outdoor area for charging electric bikes.

Last Friday, September 19, 2025, we dined with a group of 15 people. We had menu 2. Some family members enjoyed their meal, but the steak was burnt and not cooked medium rare. One family member also had to wait so long for his main course, a tenderloin skewer, that we were all finished by the time he received his. I didn't think that was very good. We sat on the terrace, and when it got dark, there wasn't much mood lighting. A few minor points to consider. Otherwise, we had a pleasant evening.

Friendly staff Cheerful and attentive The service is good, they pay close attention, and the DJ is regularly asked if everything is alright. In short, a fun, spontaneous place with friendly staff.

The menu is unfortunately quite limited. We always came for steak in a pan. Sadly, it's no longer on the menu. We did have steak, but we had to order fries and the like separately. The service seemed friendly, but when we had finished our meal, the waitress came and complimented us on finishing our plates and said she was proud of us...as if we were toddlers. Sad, I don't know if we'll be back...

A lovely stop during my cycling trip. The cappuccino was nice and warm, and the apple pie was delicious. Plenty of space to park a racing bike with a trailer, and a child seat was available. Quick service :)

Nice surroundings and a pleasant atmosphere. Conveniently located, close to the road to/from Kijkduin. The staff is friendly. The food was good. We weren't impressed by the long wait times. It took over an hour between entering and eating. But okay, probably just an unfortunate timing.

Ate at the Bonte Haas this weekend. Cozy bistro with excellent service. Good value for money. The satay and hamburger were amazing. The spareribs were tender but a bit bland — they could use a better marinade. Worth visiting again, but not for the spareribs.

My wife had spicy Thai chicken, which had absolutely no flavor and was served on white bread 🤷‍♂️. I had an "uitsmijter" (what's wrong with that?). The "uitsmijter" was fried too quickly, a slimy egg, and the bread slices were piled on top of each other, which didn't make eating it any easier. I've always had delicious meals in the past, including a tasty meatball in a pan and a delicious steak with bread, but unfortunately, they don't have them anymore. Such a shame!

Tried two smoothies – berry & tropical 🍓🥭 Both were fabulous: fresh, full of real fruit, beautifully presented and a good size! 💯 But… the price was off – menu said €5.50, we paid €6.50 🤔 That really shouldn’t happen. A bit pricey for the location, but the food at nearby tables looked amazing, so we’ll be back to try more! 🍽️✨

We thought we'd pop over to De Bonte Haas. That was disappointing. The latte glass wasn't clean, very dirty from the honey from the previous one. We received a new one without an apology. Then I ordered tomato soup, and she asked if I wanted bread with it (I hadn't received a card), and I said yes. So when it arrived, it came with bread and a separate plate full of sliced bread with butter, no knife. It looked like I was feeding the ducks. The staff didn't respond. What a bad move! Way too much bread.

Orders were understood and served promptly. 👍 The food was delicious, especially the apple tart and the bitterballen with spicy mayo. It wasn't busy, but everything still took a long time. The fillet satay was dry and had very little peanut sauce on it. We were very disappointed. The waitress asked if everything was to our liking. We said the satay was dry, but nothing more than "oh, too bad" was enough.

Something's changed at De Bonte Haas. The staff is a bit rushed, and serving is done at the front of the table and then passed on. The menu is simple. All vegetables and/or fries have to be ordered separately. Ordering extra fries that were half-fried was a shame. At the end of the evening, busy cleaning up, but the customer is forgotten. So, no coffee or dessert then! Perhaps fewer tables and more attention to the customer?

We had a wonderful meal on the terrace. Delicious steak with grilled vegetables. We found the latter surprising; we think many restaurants underemphasize serving vegetables. Friendly service and quite fast. In short, a delicious meal. However, we do find the prices a bit high, especially the drinks.

The drinks platter is recommended. Half a cup of soup without even a piece of bread. You have to order that extra, huh? And the latte was just like a cappuccino in a latte glass. Cost-cutting?

After a nice bike ride, I ended up at Eetcafé de Bonte Haas with a friend, and that turned out to be a bull's eye. We sat there all afternoon, had a delicious meal and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive, without being pushy. It really is a place where you can relax, whether you feel like having a good meal or just something nice to drink. Everything was right: the atmosphere, the food, the location. A nice stopover and a place where I will definitely come back.

Tasty cod and the steak from the pan was delicious. The desserts were also very good: cheesecake and strawberry sundae. Smooth and friendly service.

June 17, 2025: we sat here under an umbrella on this sunny day and enjoyed a well-prepared lunch. I ate the "lunch hour" there, consisting of a bowl of soup (I chose onion soup), a sandwich with a croquette and a sandwich with carpaccio. In addition, a delicious fresh mint tea. All dishes tasted great. Afterwards, we finished with a cappuccino.

After a lovely trip on the water. We had made a reservation at half past six at the Bonte Haas. After the order was taken, we went to ask after two hours where our main course was. This had not been reported to the kitchen and it would take a while. Because we would be short of time, we decided not to wait for this. I thought the compensation we received for this was very minimal. So we went to the snack bar. Too bad. No Bonte Haas for the time being.

What a wonderful location! We stayed 4 days at the mini camping Zwetzone 1 km away, but cycled past this restaurant every day and it was always full. Last night of our stay we had a delicious meal here and then the customer friendliness of the waitresses! Only praise😃 delicious food, great service and wonderful seating 👏👍👍
