Abbiamo scelto per la nostra pausa pranzo in una visita ad Amsterdam questo particolare fast food dove vengono servite specialità olandesi , particolarmente note le croquetes e le caratteristiche bitterballen polpette fritte note ad amsterdam ripiene di carne di manzo farina , burro e spezie . Il posto è alla mano ci si siede al banco e si ordina , si mangia e si paga alla fine . Un posto alla mano dove con circa 40€ abbiamo mangiato bitterballen in abbondanza (3 porzioni) e acqua consigliato!

Depending on the time of day, it can be very crowded and chaotic, but the food is worth it. The pastrami and croquette sandwiches are absolutely delicious, and the price is reasonable. I'd go back anytime - highly recommended.

Lovely atmosphere, exactly the description. Been coming there for years for a half-cheese sandwich and a croquet sandwich. I think it's getting pricey now, but for now it won't stop me from eating there every now and then.

Simple, no fuss. The staff speaks English. The clientele is also local. I recommend the alfom. No alcohol, apparently it's for breakfast 😅 In short, I ate for €6.50.

The dish is quite delicious. We ordered 1 croquet and 1 sandwich with ham and cold liver, both served with mustard sauce in cups on each table. The hot croquet was delicious and was the dish that surprised us the most. My friend even ordered a second one. The cold meat sandwich is quite delicious, the liver does not smell bad and is quite greasy, you can try it for those who can eat liver. The restaurant is very crowded with Dutch people coming to have breakfast.

Service was rapid, staff were friendly and most importantly, food was very tasty!! We had 4 rolls between 2 people and a glass of milk each, and left feeling very content!

For me a first visit to this luxurious, famous lunch cafe, the ideal place to enjoy a tasty meal with friends before visiting the rest of the city! A half sandwich with a glass of milk is highly recommended! For those with a big appetite, the Risschisch Egg is a tasty combination of egg, various fish salads and Russian salad.

However, the selection was enormous, the food was delicious, the service was super friendly and the prices were absolutely fair for the address in the middle of Amsterdam. A must visit for anyone who wants to eat a well-kept roll with delicious meat. Simple but super tasty.

What a pleasure it is to have a sandwich at Van Dobben. If I get the chance, I always drop in for the homemade Filet American, a tartare sandwich with onion and a glass of buttermilk. What a party, every time. Where is the Van Dobben chain?

The meat is delicious, I haven’t tried the croquette, but I think it’s the same as everywhere)) a friend advised me to try American fillet here, it’s probably the most delicious in the Netherlands, but in fact it’s stupid minced meat with mayonnaise)) I’m a little disappointed) if you’re in a town not far from Amsterdam (Bennebrook), find a butcher shop (there’s only one there) and buy an American fillet from them and grill a slice of white at home bread and it will be just incredibly tasty 🤤

We went for the Bitterballen and they are not worth it, ours were empty, without filling, €9.60 for six dough balls. The rest we saw looked good but I can't comment. They don't serve alcohol. You have to tip.

A must stop place if you're in Amsterdam the bun is so soft the women behind the counter are quick witted and have good jokes. Make sure you get a glass of milk with your food im from Canada and this is way the perfect drink but way better then milk from Canada.

Typical and original. There are MacDs and other chains everywhere but this one is definitely worth the detour. The best proof? Almost exclusively locals seated at tables, with the famous glass of milk. We enjoyed a delicious kaassoufflé, kroket Broodje, a hamburger and zalmayonaise. And the 3 ladies at the service are friendly... in their own way 😄 They are funny and open in any case. Don't miss this place, not far from reguliersdwarsstraat

First and last time in this place, as soon as they see that you are a tourist they give you the menu without a price and don't give you the receipt, 20 minutes of waiting for 1 sandwich, they served all the customers who arrived after me, don't believe everything you see on the internet. 6 euros 1 sandwich with 2 slices of beef, ridiculous

Hurrah! After years, back to Van Dobben. The prolets who worked there, with dirty coats, with misplaced Amsterdam arrogance, abused the clientele. Now neat ladies, with clean clothes, courteous, fast and efficient. And now with a NICE Amsterdam twist. The food is and was good.

A great place for everyone saying „I want to try the real Dutch food” while in Amsterdam. This charming local diner offers all the staples and is famous for the croquet sandwich which is as tasty as it is simple. You can add some mustard to it, to elevate the flavor if you’d like. The bun was soft and went really well with the toppings. During my visit I tried the classic and an egg salad broodje. Both very tasty. The diner was filled with locals and tourists so it’s safe to say it’s a place you go back to. Staff were very nice, also happy to provide recommendations if needed. The prices are very reasonable for what you get as well. I’ll be coming back here whenever in the area, got a few more broodjes to try!

after waiting approximately 15 minutes in front of the service area, we finally got their attention. We received an English menu without prices, and the food was completely tasteless. We also felt ignored because we spoke English, and we noticed that they prioritized customers who spoke Dutch, even those who arrived after us. It was not a good experience and not a good vibe. I don’t recommend this place unless you are a proud nationalist and a Dutch speaker. We also believe that we paid more than we should have, but we can't prove it without a receipt or a menu with prices, which we never received.

Cozy lunchroom with some typical Dutch eats like Krokets in soft buns & mustard. Cooked ham with sate (peanut) sauce. Glass of milk is offered but you can always opt out. Staff are friendly and punctual. Can get busy and both locals and tourists eat here. Prices are somewhat expected given the location in central neighbourhoods of Amsterdam.

We come from Almere by bike to eat a half-morning sandwich, always good there and for a very long time, highly recommended.

It's a very cute and historical restaurant. The staff, Abei and Auntie, feel happy to work and very friendly. It is very comfortable to drink hot vegetable soup in cold weather. It is filled with celery, carrots, and mini meatballs; their long fried meatballs are freshly fried, so be careful not to burn them when eating. The outer skin is very crispy, like scallops, and the taste is a bit salty. If you can eat it, the bread option should be able to neutralize the saltiness of the meatballs. The store decoration is clean and neat white, which is very special.

100% REGRETTABLE. Of the three women behind the bar, the two older ladies showed all their displeasure and xenophobia when they detected that we were Spanish. To say that they did not transmit their bitterness to us and on the contrary they have been protagonists of many moments of laughter throughout the trip with the rest of the group. They are the only two rude and most grotesque characters we have come across in our entire time in Amsterdam. We didn't miss anything, because in addition to a kitchen with poor hygienic conditions, we are professional Spanish cuisine so a bread with butter, a croquette sandwich or a raw meat sausage makes us laugh. Exploring Amsterdam on a sunny but crisp Sunday, I found myself 16k steps in and needing something hearty to eat. Travelling solo, I wasn’t feeling a traditional lunch in a restaurant. Instead, I decided to go and try out Van Dobben. I had heard about it on Instagram and was braced for an experience ruined by GenZ influencers… but there were none to be found in my two hours at this amazing time capsule of a restaurant/cafeteria. It felt homely like something you might find in Cork, or in the late 80s of my Midlands childhood. This is a gem of a place, and though at times it feels like organised chaos, you are well looked after by the team. I spoiled myself with broodje croquet, broodje warm vlies, portie bitteballen, broodje tartare, and the customary glass of milk. A filling meal costing €34 and worth it for the experience too. Definitely not a tourist trap. An authentic piece of Amsterdam and I shall visit again!

Explorando Ámsterdam en un domingo soleado pero fresco, me encontré con 16 mil pasos y necesitaba algo abundante para comer. Viajando solo, no sentía un almuerzo tradicional en un restaurante. En su lugar, decidí ir a probar Van Dobben. Había oído hablar de ello en Instagram y estaba preparado para una experiencia arruinada por los influencers de GenZ... pero no había ninguno en mis dos horas en esta increíble cápsula del tiempo de un restaurante / cafetería. Se sentía hogareño como algo que podrías encontrar en Cork, o a finales de los 80 de mi infancia en Midlands. Es una joya de un lugar, y aunque a veces parece un caos organizado, el equipo te cuida bien. Me mimé con croquet de broodje, moscas calientes de broodje, mordisco de portie, sarro de broodje y el vaso de leche habitual. Una comida de relleno que cuesta 34 € y vale la pena para la experiencia también. Definitivamente no es una trampa turística. Un auténtico pedazo de Amsterdam y volveré a visitar!

Very unpleasant service. At first, after ordering in English, the lady was quite hostile and asked me what country we were in. After answering that I was in the Netherlands, she asked why she should answer me in English if it wasn't England. I understand that English is not mandatory at every point, but the tone in which she said it was truly terrible. Such service immediately spoiled the atmosphere of the place. The food itself can be ok, we ordered bitterballen, nothing special.

The food here is great. My complaint is a member of staff who was very rude to me. I asked for two sandwiches and was asked if I wanted butter on both. I said only on one which was for me. My wife then changed her mind whilst the lady was making hers. I said I’m really sorry but can we now have butter on that one. She said very loudly ‘oh my god’ like I’d done something terrible. Anyway we never returned during our stay which we really wanted to, but I’m not being treated like that in front of other customers.

Here is where the locals go. Hopefully it gets less scary for tourists (of minority races, especially) to order food here. It could be intimidating stepping into a room of Dutch-speaking customers and having a menu only in Dutch.

Wanted a quick meal and heard about this place. Understanding where to order was a little chaotic but eventually took a recently vacated seat at the counter and one of the ladies eventually paid attention to me (they were all busy though so no harm done). Got myself a coffee and a croquette in bread, the mustard is very good! Quick service and got change from a €10 note. The food is quick, with fresh croquettes coming out frequently. I was sat in front of the meat counter and got to see them making the sandwiches, maybe next time I'm in the area!

Van Dobben is, apart from the tasty food, a good sandwich shop. But just as important are the people behind the counter, whom we have known for many years. They are always pleasant and that makes you want to go to Van Dobben for a sandwich.

An extremely authentic Dutch culinary experience, a must when visiting Amsterdam! Some of the best filet americain I’ve had in the Netherlands.

In mijn staptijd ging je een broodje halen bij Broodje van Kootje of Dobben. Kootje is ter ziele. Dus na jaaaaren weer eens een broodje halen bij Dobben. Wat een fiasco. Bestelde een broodje kroket en een broodje warm vlees. Wat betreft broodje kroket: een klein klef wit bolletje (fabriek) met een meelkroket waarin hier en daar een sliertje vlees. Wat betreft broodje warm vlees: zelfde bolletje met uit lauwwarme waterige jus gehaalde fricandeau (stuk gekookt) met een laffe smakeloze kwak satésaus. Wat een treurigheid. Daar betaal je dan de hoofdprijs voor. En over de “dames” achter de counter zal ik maar zwijgen. Wat een graftakken. Een grote mond is geen Amsterdamse humor. Dobben is verworden tot een toeristenval. Liefhebbers van een goed en lekker broodje, loop deze zaak hard voorbij.

I think there is not enough meat in the croquette

This might be on of the most local lunchrooms in the city centre. My father would come here as a boy and the atmosphere hasn't changed much. Don't expect 5 star service but as real Dutch experience (and yes we are very direct). Their famous sandwiches "broodje halfom", "broodje tartaar met zuur" and of course their "broodje kroket".

The best place to have the classic Dutch 'bitterballen' in Amsterdam. The place does not attract particular attention, and it is almost appreciated, since it is not crowded. Lots of local people, which already gives a good sign that quality is a standard. The food is not particularly elaborate, they are simple bar dishes but they do not leave you indifferent and they go very well with a beer. We came wanting to discover something new and we left very happy. In our case we were going with the idea of ​​having an aperitif, but we could have stayed to eat directly because everything is very good. Completely recommended to come.
