The food was mediocre. We weren't allowed to drink alcohol on the terrace, but we were allowed to smoke. 5 stars!

On Wednesday, August 20th, after a bike ride, I found myself on the beautiful boulevard of Harderwijk. We enjoyed a delicious kibbeling menu on the terrace of Engel&Engel and the fantastic location. The fish was beautifully fried and seasoned, with good fries and a fresh salad. And all for a reasonable price. The waitress was also very friendly and had a welcoming demeanor. Highly recommended for an affordable, good lunch!

Absolutely, Ati! Let’s get this review into English with your style in mind. --- We recently visited a little spot in Harderwijk called Engel & Engel, a small bar and gelateria right by the water. We decided to stop there because, surprisingly, most of the places along the waterfront didn’t have much of a seafood selection. This one did—they had kibbeling and other fish dishes—so we figured we’d give it a try. We were a party of seven, four adults and three kids, and we sat out on the terrace. The waiter was friendly, though he had a bit of trouble understanding my Dutch, which isn’t top-notch anyway. We tried to order a few beers, but they told us they don’t serve alcohol, probably because they don’t have a license. So we ended up with some orange juice, water, and a few other soft drinks. One thing I really didn’t like was that they only had small bottles of still water. I’m not a fan of places that don’t offer larger bottles or tap water easily. It always feels like they’re just trying to make a bit more money off thirsty customers, which I really don’t appreciate. I prefer places that are generous with water, especially for kids. Anyway, we got just a half-liter bottle for the kids and ordered other drinks for the adults. As for the food, we ordered kibbeling, some breaded shrimp, a schnitzel, and gratinated mussels. The shrimp were definitely the best part, the schnitzel was okay, and the kibbeling was decent but not the best I’ve had in the Netherlands—just average. The mussels, however, were honestly inedible. They came with melted cheese on top, which might be a local thing, and it really didn’t work for us, but also the mussels were weird and they tasted bad. We couldn’t eat them at all and just left them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made someone feel a bit queasy later on. We finished up with three scoops of gelato for the kids, which they enjoyed, and that was it. The total bill came to 87.50 euros. Overall, the place has a nice view and a pleasant terrace. The food and service were just okay. And that’s about it!

We had a bite there... definitely not again. I had a chicken satay, which was okay, but the bread that came with it was completely black. Just say you didn't have any bread, yuck, it was too disgusting to look at! The schnitzel with three mushrooms, onions, and bell pepper was so meager and so bad that it was floating around, you couldn't take it off your plate! I say never again and don't do it!

What terrible kibbeling. Fried dark brown. Instead of white meat, brown meat with tons of spices. Truly the worst kibbeling I've ever eaten. I left more than half. I mentioned it at checkout. Too bad, better luck next time and charge the full amount. You'll never see me here again. Bad food and bad service. Too bad.

Enjoy a nice meal and drink by the water with a delicious ice cream afterwards for a reasonable price

Both kibbeling and lekkerbekjes were dry, tough, dark and tasteless. The sauce resembled the garlic sauce of Calvé. We expressed our dissatisfaction when asked if it tasted good but this was responded to very indignantly; as if it was our fault. However, there were 9 of us and 9 of us shared the same opinions. Unfriendly to customers and bad service! We were here for the first and certainly the last time.

Fried mussels were burnt and very greasy. Nothing was done with our criticism. After that I was sick for 2 days.

We ate here with our children and unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant. The spare ribs seemed to have been reheated, the schnitzel was very fatty, and the mussel dish isn't really recommended. It's a shame, we had hoped for something better to end the day with. Our conclusion: It's better to spend five more minutes looking for a restaurant and enjoy a great evening.

Beautiful location, but the food disappointed. The frying oil isn’t good and everything fried has an unpleasant corn flavour to it. We had Kibbeling from a different vendor the day after and it was miles better.

We had a delicious meal again. My girlfriend took the hamburger menu and I took the Kibbeling menu. We had a delicious meal! And the people are also very friendly! Is our address!

The place has become super beautiful in recent years. Nice staff, good food. Highly recommended if you are in Harderwijk!

Kibbeling menu: very greasy and the fish was dark inside, fries were limp and the garnish was not fresh. Eel sandwich: bone-dry sandwich, tasteless eel. We felt sick.

1) see photos 2) fried mussels were too greasy and black, the fat was still in the container 3) salad was really meaningless and stale 4) spare ribs very dry and little meat 5) kibbeling too greasy 6) very sour man that couldn't even crack a smile. Definitely not recommended and especially go now when the weather is nice. They can't handle the crowds. Very sad!

Broodje paling was droog en zonder boter. De kibbeling was niet op de juiste temperatuur gebakken, erg vettig, en de vis van binnen donker van kleur. De friet was slap en de garnering oogde niet fris. Eigenlijk was alleen de koffie okay. We zijn misselijk weggegaan.

Friendly and not too expensive.

Engel en Engel has a lovely terrace on the water. Service is very friendly. Food super fresh, meat from the butcher around the corner and for an affordable price. Had a chicken satay menu and not too salty like many cafeterias, but wonderfully tender and well-flavored. Beautifully presented. When asked about what they did with the cans, it turns out that they have a good cause for them every year... Really great!

Haven't even had a chance to order anything yet. We were just sitting on the terrace waiting to order. Totally ignored others who came to sit later were served straight away. Possibly because we have a touch?

I wanted to ask if the hamburger bun was a bigger burger than another one, and the response I got was "you know what a hamburger is, right?" Followed by a discussion about a comparison with Mc'Donalds. The price-quality ratio is excellent and most employees seemed to enjoy it. Only that one guy ruined the atmosphere and therefore a big zero 👎 We also didn't get napkins, but that's a side issue.

Ik had echt veel zin in een bakje kibbeling. Vond het niet vies maar ook zeker niet lekker. Oude vette kibbeling, veel te droog en te donker gebakken. Te veel zout. Behoorlijk droge sla met een beetje kool. Had ik de recensies maar eerder gelezen. Dan hadden we ergens anders voor misschien iets meer ook meer kunnen genieten.

Guter Service, Essen war lecker und Preise passend. ☺️ Die Aussicht lädt zum entspannen ein.

Onvriendelijk personeel. Het was niet de bedoeling dat wij voor alleen een ijsje (€12,50 in totaal) gebruik gingen maken van het terras. Mensen naast ons alleen een cola en ijsthee en dat was prima. Heel vreemd en niet erg attent.

Daar is het goed toeven en lekker en ook betaalbaar om iets te nuttigen.

Eten was onder de maat, vis erg zout, volgens de serveerster gebruiken ze geen zout, alleen kruiden. Patat erg slap, slecht gefrituuerd. Ongeïnteresseerd personeel. Voorbeeld, had in mijn gebakken mosselen een kokkel, heb daar iets van gezegd, ze zou het doorgeven aan de kok. Toen ik nog geen twee minuten later wilde betalen, vroeg ze waar ik had gezeten, hoezo de vraag, was net aan mijn tafel geweest.

Het eten was prima, echter vrij karig. Ik ga met honger weg. De ober was direct en onredelijk tegenover mijn vraag. Hij deed geïrriteerd en ik wist niet goed of ik besteld had of niet.

Leuk terras aan het water. Het kibbeling menu en het lekkerbek menu waren prima. De bediening was onvriendelijk! Er wordt geen alcohol geschonken, iets om rekening mee te houden.

Tastes good. But decide for yourself whether this is a Lekkerbek serving for adults or for children? The price is for adults. I have never been served such a small fish anywhere in Harderwyk.

Super vriendelijk personeel, kunnen vele terrassen in Harderwijk een voorbeeld aan nemen! Heerlijke friet en een leuke plek aan de boulevard!

Heerlijke patat en broodje hamburger! 😍 Wordt uitstekend rekening gehouden met allergieën. Waren toen ik belde, eigenlijk al gesloten, maar stonden wel gewoon voot me klaar. Waanzinnig! Nog nooit meegemaakt.

Heerlijk eten en klantvriendelijke bediening, tevens kwamen ze direct met water voor de hond aan. Zeker de moeite waard en wij houden jullie zeker aanbevolen als we in Harderwijk zijn. P.s de hond mist haar horentjes al. Liefs die mensen van de rolstoelhond😉

Prima cafetaria oude stijl. Eten is er prima. De Engel is soms wat nors. Tegen mijn vrouw trouwens niet.

Très bon plats, à des prix très corrects... ne servent pas d’alcool.

Lekkere drankjes en een snelle service. Er wordt geen alcohol geschonken, iets om rekening mee te houden wanneer je op dit terras gaat zitten. Dit stond namelijk niet aangegeven. De terrassen van de cafés waren allemaal naast elkaar, waardoor het verschil niet te zien was.
