Erawan Thai Restaurant in Oude Stad

I've rarely had Thai food. What caught my eye were the chili peppers on the side. Something I'm not allowed to have. But what I did have, the pork belly with bamboo, was delicious. The portions were generous. The Thai beer was deceptively delicious. Definitely a restaurant I recommend. But they've been around for over 30 years, so that speaks volumes.

It was our first visit to Erawan, and it won't be our last. Everything we ate was delicious, the dishes were beautifully presented and perfect for sharing. The location and service were excellent. We made a reservation, and it was a great idea; without a reservation, we probably would have had to wait for a table, as the place was packed. Our dinner included four main courses, four drinks, two desserts, and two coffees.

The best Thai restaurant in the Netherlands – a gem in Haarlem. I eat here regularly and every time I enjoy the authentic Thai flavors. My absolute favorites are the Tom Kha Kai and the beef salad – both perfectly seasoned, fresh, and just like in Thailand. Everything is prepared with care and love. For me, this is without a doubt the best Thai restaurant in the Netherlands. The service is always friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. It's truly my go-to place in Haarlem. Sunday evening, September 7, 2025, I picked up two som tom papaya salads from Erawan Thai Restaurant. Som tom is one of the tastiest dishes in Thai cuisine; in all my travels, the quality has always been between adequate and very good. However, at Erawan, the quality of the papaya salad was subpar; the balance of sweet, hot, and fresh was completely lacking. Too bad, Erawan Thai Restaurant, a very poor experience. It's much better to respond to a takeout meal by telling the customer to return from home to the restaurant with the salads, where they'll likely have to listen to all the talk about recognition and authenticity, blah blah, from a restaurateur who already doesn't listen to criticism. What a joke, but amusing to read in the comment that the customer's opinion and experience are completely irrelevant—only the one-star rating is truly addressed. We're good, we've been recognized, the owner liked it, and we don't care about your opinion, but it's lame that you're giving one star. This comment is also only worth one star!

Best Thai food I ever had in Europe!! And I’m Thai!! 🤗

Been coming here for a few years now and it's always delicious. Yesterday I decided to let the owner choose something for us. Otherwise, you often end up choosing what you already know. The dishes were superb! I'd never eaten there before, even though I've been to Thailand 15 times. I got some great tips for our upcoming trip there. Not so good. If I have one thing to comment on, it's the wine. I had a delicious jasmine tea yesterday. The wine list isn't really extensive, which isn't a problem, but the house wines do need to be good. They're not bad, but they're certainly not good either. It would be great if they'd select a few new house wines with the help of a sommelier. I'd happily pay a bit more for that.

Yesterday I ate at Erawan for a birthday, and I so regret it. We felt completely unwelcome from the start. The food was literally thrown in front of us, and when I asked for ice cubes in my drink, she yelled and made it clear she wasn't happy with my request at all. The food didn't taste Thai at all, far from it! I went to the bar to pay, and there I was asked how I liked it. I honestly told her it wasn't her fault, but that we hadn't been served very kindly by her colleague. She was completely understanding and begged me to keep coming back. After we left, our waitress chased me and tugged at my arm to come inside to explain to the manager what she had done wrong. I went inside, but I felt incredibly embarrassed, and it was an embarrassing display. We will never, ever, ever come back here again. If you want a pleasant evening and good food, I recommend you find a different restaurant.

I often get takeout from Erawan, but this time the portions were much smaller than usual. And the price was higher. Has anything changed? The taste is also a bit blander than I'm used to. The fish cakes weren't fresh. Too bad!

Very one dimensional flavors. Pad kee mao basically tasted of salt and nothing else, but was generous on the meat/shrimp. Service was friendly and quick but the food was not at all close to what Thai food should taste like.

Not authentic in the slightest. Would you like mushrooms in your pad kra pao? Even after specifically clarifying the ingredients before ordering. The food was a real disappointment.

Very unfortunate, I ordered from them via uber, after almost an hour the delivery person comes with the wrong order. The management of the store itself does nothing to solve this properly. The only option is to place the order again. Not even a bag of kroepoek to make up for it. In my opinion really no style and I am very disappointed and even angry.

By far the best Thai restaurant in Haarlem with authentic Thai flavours. Been coming here for years and never disappointed.

We came to celebrate a birthday and had a wonderful time! The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The dishes (chicken and shrimp) were large, delicious, and beautifully presented. Some of the seasoning was spicy, but in a nice and balanced way. Great experience overall – we’ll definitely come back!

A bit tucked away from the main square, this is a fabulous Thai Restaurant for many years now. The restaurant was almost fully booked with reservations, so I was glad to made my own one a day before. The food was really tasty with just the right amount of spices and het. The staff members I met were also truly amazing and friendly. This was a wonderful last dinner during my visit to Haarlem.

The food is tasty, but the service is often poor. Not all tea glasses were clean. Some waitresses are a bit grumpy and some are very nice. We sat next to the entrance and it was cold. Some think they are entering a church, this could be much better.

Yesterday we had dinner with 4 people. Our reservation was not on the list, even though we did have confirmation. Still got a table. Sat near the door, which was constantly left open as the delivery people ran in and out of the restaurant. Staff was disinterested and not really friendly. Used to be our favorite Thai, now discontinued. The food was tasty by the way.

Tasty beyond expectations. It is also a delivery restaurant and they have a boring menu with a lot of numbered dishes. That doesn't really appeal to the imagination. But when the dishes arrive on the table, it becomes clear that they have a fantastic kitchen. Really delicious food.

Wij zijn al een enkele keer op zaterdagavond wezen eten. Dat het elke keer vol zat zegt genoeg. De smaak sensatie vinden wij van de div gerechten fantastisch. Het personeel werkt keihard om iedereen van zijn gerecht te voorzien. Ook doen zij aan thuisbezorgd. Misschien teveel voor ze want het restaurant zit vol. Ze zitten er al 35 Jaar. Zegt genoeg denk ik. Tot een volgende keer.

Relaxed, authentic place with good food. Pleasant staff. The food was perfectly seasoned and there was a good selection of dishes. Mostly locals, we were the only non Dutch in the restaurant.

Friendly/warm staff. When I picked up I received a bowl of prawn crackers while waiting. Unfortunately, when eating the curries, they are very watery and very salty. You taste more salt than the flavors a curry has to offer. Shame!

When the diners next to you are locals and are regulars you start to expect a lot - and we were disappointed. The food was exceptional, we had the chicken spring rolls, massaman beef curry and for something different the stuffed squid (stuffed with pork). Meals are a very good size - for example there were 4 spring rolls. Service was good and the area we sat in was set up in a more traditional way. We had to take off our shoes before getting to our table. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We were there for the first time and had good quality food. We orderered pat Krapao Gai, tom yum gung, Gai Sate and a papaya salad. If we‘ll come back to Haarlem we will visit this Restaurant, again.

Great service, they were very friendly and explained everything in details. Fresh and delicious food. I tried the Pad Thai and the Papaya salad. We also had the platter with several starter dishes. There were a lot of vegan options too.

Food was amazing, the flavors were there, prices were good. The place is really cute. The only thing I didn’t appreciate was the male waiter touches the forks, spoons and knife at the top when placing them on the table and touched the food with his hands.

Very authentic and tasty place. We made a reservation in advance. We came with a hungry baby, and the staff quickly brought hot rice with vegetables, for which a special thank you! The Pad Thai was amazing with both chicken and rice. The drinks were good too! There is a high chair for the baby.

Absolutely amazing find. Looking around for somewhere to eat and came across this little gem. Looking inside there were quite a few people so we thought we would give it a try. So glad we did. We had the mixed starter to begin with a traditional Chang beer. Followed that up with a shrimp(make that King Prawn) Pad Thai and sweet and sour chicken with sticky steamed rice. Service was excellent, food tremendous and very affordable. If you hanker after Thai food that is not only cooked to perfection but also generous then give this place a go. Cannot recommend it enough.

Authentic Thai food! Best one I've been to, nothing beats this place really. And oh my God on their papaya salad - If you could tolerate spicy food, go for this one you won't regret it. If you can't tolerate it, mango salad is the less spicy version of it

Third time I have eaten here. Last time because of finding a hair and plastic in the food. Had no apologies. In addition, the flavors were also less, quite bland and the sewage smell made our experience there even more unpleasant. Severe decline since the previous visits.

Bij godsgratie mochten we met 2 kinderen snel wat eten.( kregen een uur !) Het eten werd werkelijk op tafel gesmeten. ze waren te druk met elkaar en de telefoon . Komen hier nooit meer

Tastiest Thai in Haarlem! Deliciously tender chicken and delicious fried banana with sesame. When picking up they accidentally gave the wrong dish. A quick phone call and they immediately delivered the correct dish. Top service. Thanks!
