Fong Shou Chinees Restaurant in Schollevaar Zuid

This restaurant was a household name for years, but it hasn't been for quite some time. Dishes are becoming increasingly expensive, less flavorful, and less substantial. Even the little one now thinks the food is meager for what you pay a hefty price for.

Had a delicious meal and good service. It was nice that my dog ​​was welcome; he was well taken care of too :)

Singapore noodles are our favorite dish; we've gotten them from various Chinese restaurants, but they are still the best here.

We went here out of convenience (after a Baseball match at the next door fields). It was around lunch time. They were just opening so we had the whole restaurant for ourselves. The restaurant looked clean and the background classical music was giving a good sphere. The waiter was very kind. Menu is not that extensive but food was very tasty. Recommended!!!

Picked up Foe Young Hai, chicken with cashews, and beef with black bean sauce. Tasted okay, rather bland flavor.

We celebrated our birthdays together with my brother and sister-in-law. It was fun and very delicious.

Ordered food for pickup for 18:15, did this by phone an hour earlier, and have now been waiting for well over an hour. Surely I don't order with a pickup time for nothing? I read another review from someone who experienced the same thing more than a year ago, stating that you are going to work on improving this. Apparently a hopeless mission. You are going to lose customers this way.

This was once the Chinese gem of Capelle-on-the-IJssel. People came from far and wide to feast on Chinese Cantonese / Indonesian specialties. However, both the food and the service have deteriorated significantly in recent years. The staff walking around here understand very little about customer friendliness. To top it all off, nowadays you have to pay €1.50 if you ask for a little sambal with your order of well over €100. The staff's explanation was: I am not allowed to decide to give this away on the house. Fong Shou, deeply sad, you should be ashamed! #Hopeless

We have been coming here for years. The last time was in February, and again today. It just keeps getting worse every time. The service is completely inattentive and pays little attention to guests. When ordering drinks, you almost have to go get someone. Even though the place was only half full, it also takes a very long time for the food to arrive. I'm done with it for now!

Today, March 22, 2026, after a few months, I thought I'd get Chinese food again. 1 babi pangang 1 daging roedjak; what a letdown this was for my 34.10, man. The daging pieces of meat were cut so large, as if they just weren't in the mood today. My sauce looked like they had mixed a bucket of water into it; the taste was practically non-existent, there were only big chunks of meat in it. Normally, it is a delicious sauce with a spicy flavor. I have lived in East near Fong Shou for almost 30 years, and it was always a fantastic place and a regular customer. I have no idea if they have a different cook now, but this is really disappointing. You think you won't have to cook yourself for an evening, but then you don't get value for your money! I hope they look into this, because judging by the reviews, I am far from the only one who has had bad experiences with Fong Shou after it has been such a good Chinese place for all these years.

Get takeout. Had a terrible meal. Tough, stale rice. A spring roll that we could squeeze out but was filled only with bean sprouts. We called but no one listened. No compensation, nothing. We are never going back here.

Fou Yong Hai egg dish and peanut sauce. The cook added water to the bowl and cup. It was for one person, and the rice was the same. Tasteless food. I'll never order from here again.

We ordered 2 main courses, 1 with nasi, the other with bami. Pangsit goreng and prawn crackers. The food was very disappointing. The pangsit was tough and clearly not freshly fried. The main courses were tasteless. The sambal (a small plate) cost 50 cents. All together 50 euros. Not worth repeating.

I was craving a delicious Gong Bao Sa Ting today, but what a disappointment! First of all, it was busy today, so the wait was over 45 minutes, which is quite long at Fong Shou, but of course, it's not a problem if what you get is good. Well, it was absolutely awful. I ate some and threw the rest away; I don't want to get sick. They probably had leftover meat from Christmas. There were also two shrimp in it (normally four), and it was completely covered in carrots and tasted very dull, despite the handful of chilies that the chef probably thought would hide his tinkering or the quality. I'm not used to that from them, but this is the second time I've had such a bad experience in 2025, so they won't be seeing me again anytime soon. The best Chinese restaurant in Capelle? This is too sad to put into words!

We were able to order food online on Christmas Day, as usual. We entered a delivery time, and it was available until 9:00 PM. After half an hour, we received a call to say the food couldn't be delivered due to the Christmas holidays. It wasn't clearly stated anywhere that this wasn't possible. We are regular customers. Nevertheless, Fong Shou didn't meet us halfway. They took our €58 payment and left us without food.

Disappointed with the long delivery time. I ordered at 4:51 PM, with a delivery date of 5:45 PM. After calling at 6:10 PM, I strongly felt the order wasn't handled promptly. It took a very long time for my order to be found. "Not all dishes were ready yet..." But of course, you can't prove that over the phone... and no excuse, just a lame story about being very busy... I got the distinct impression they weren't telling the real story. It's a shame. The delivery is over an hour late, and the entire evening's schedule is now in disarray. Advice: only choose delivery if you have nothing else planned.

Ordered food, delivered quickly. The vegetarian tjap tjoy and rice noodles were delicious. The fried bananas were truly awful. I've been buying them for years and they're always delicious. This time, the banana was hard, pink, and felt like I'd bitten into putty. Absolutely disgusting. All six of them went in the trash. Order 105883.

I was disappointed with the food. Nothing special, and quite expensive. I always thought Fong Shou would be exclusive.

After more than a year, I went back today and was disappointed again. The spring roll was almost burnt, just like a year ago, and the noodles and mixed babi pangang/char sui/Fo Nam were tasteless. The only thing with any flavor was the sauce... but it wasn't convincingly good either. I swallowed the meat with it. And that cost €34.60. I should have cooked my own portion. That would have tasted much better anyway. Everything goes in the trash, so I don't eat it again. Last year, after complaining, I was allowed a new spring roll, which wasn't given for free a month later because the owner wasn't there. The one I paid for then was better, but not great either. This was the last time. I won't be going back after several bad experiences. I won't be filing any more complaints either, because a free new meal doesn't give me a wow feeling and I might end up throwing it away. Oh yes, the prawn crackers were good, but not enough to satisfy me.

What a wonderful restaurant to eat delicious food at a good price

This is top-notch Chinese/Indonesian food with superb service and excellent rice tables. Hats off.

This is the second time I've ordered takeout, and unfortunately, I've had the same experience. The portions are rather small (for what you pay), and the food lacks flavor. The satay sauce, as well as the other sauces, were very watery and lacked salt. The price-quality ratio at this Chinese restaurant is definitely not good.

Got takeout from here last Friday and am still in shock at how bad the food was. The meat was tough and the noodles were tasteless. On top of that, they'd simply forgotten half the order, which we then had to pick up ourselves. We'd already eaten the rest and were even debating whether to pick it up at all because it really wasn't good. We'd been here before, but this is definitely the last time we'll order takeout. It might have been a one-time issue with the food, and forgetting something can happen, of course, but it was so bad I wouldn't risk it again.

We normally eat here once or twice a month, and once we order dishes from the monthly menu, which we then supplement with something from the regular menu. Yesterday was no exception. We ordered Sambal Gah and curry Sasing Pau from the monthly menu. We also ordered a shrimp dish and a combination meat dish. We supplemented this with Chai Tofu, a bok choy dish with tofu. To my surprise, all three dishes were prepared with a veritable abundance of carrots; even the Chai Tofu was packed with them! This makes me wonder if, if you were eating in the restaurant, you would simply get bok choy with tofu, while the takeaway option only includes carrots, since they're currently much cheaper. Three dishes so full of carrots—surely Fongshou should consider this themselves. We are certainly very disappointed, as we are normally quite satisfied with the quality and variety here.

My husband and I had a wonderful meal last Saturday, September 6, 2025, and the staff was very friendly. It was very pleasant, and we felt completely comfortable. My husband ordered a dish with tenderloin, but he wasn't sure if it was real tenderloin. Everything else was fine.

Ordered Chinese food for 16 people today. Everything arrived in perfect condition. Delicious food (and PLENTY of it) and my guests enjoyed it. EXCELLENT!!

July 14, 2025: 1. The food was delicious, Tin Pan Sa Sing Satay. 2. The service was excellent. 3. The atmosphere is very cozy. 4. A nice restaurant to visit. And as a regular customer, I'm very satisfied!

So much Better and tastier than a "standard" Chinese. Many special dishes. A bit more expensive but the quality is top.

Were looking for a restaurant where you are served at the table. No wok restaurant. After a long search, found it. What delicious food. Neatly served. Staff neat. Tables not on or in each other. We had a menu for 2 people with duck. Really everything was delicious. Only had to wait a long time for the pancakes. But it was also super busy. For us definitely a repeat.

After a very long time, I picked up some Chinese takeaway again. Babi panggang with sauce on the side. Fry white rice, portion of plantain and a cup of satay sauce. Unfortunately I have to say that the satay sauce is really not tasty. Fortunately, my husband is easily satisfied, so just rice with red sauce would do the trick. But the babi panggang is really bad. In my opinion very bland in taste, but very dry and hard. That's why I always ask for the sauce separately because the sauce hides the real taste of the meat. Last time (years ago) I had babi panggang bacon. That was a piece of salt to me, really not pleasant. Oh well, you can always make a mistake, you might say. But now this again. For me it's over with this Chinese, I won't get any more here. The plantain was good. But I'm going to look for another Chinese.

Heb een uur moeten wachten op een bestelling van 2 weekmenuutjes. Betaal waarschijnlijk ook voor de wachttijd. Prijs kwaliteit is niet in verhouding. Smaak van het eten was vlak en weinig smaakvol. Een keer en nooit meer.

The first and last time we ordered here. The spring rolls and nasi were dry, really not tasty. The meat of the babi pangang charred and also very dry. It doesn't seem to me that the drying out was caused by delivery. Really a shame, we didn't eat much of it. Expected more from this restaurant.

Know from the past that food was really good. Now a quick message about their delivery service....it has to be really good. But it would be nice if they just drove a maximum of 50 here on the Kanaalweg and not crashed over it with 70+!

Ordered 2 menus, these were richly filled in large Chinese containers including meat. (Can eat 4pp of it) Bamie is delicious. The starter, banana, was unfortunately not good. 1 telephone and money back for this. Top. Wide choice of dishes. No: 129 is recommended spicy and garlic😋. The atmosphere at the pick-up is good. Definitely come pick up again when I pass by or I happen to drive 15 minutes detour😉.

January 13, 2025 ate here. My father was 95 years old...it was handled very kindly and he was completely happy...besides that the food...we all had the 3-course menu...really really delicious. We had a great time enjoying...

What a wasted afternoon, it was very cold upon arrival, but worse was that the food was also cold. We ordered 3 rice tables, what a joke: 3 pieces of beef, 3 pieces of chicken, some vegetables, so in short 1 piece of meat for 1 person. When we indicated that the food was cold, we thought the manager said that yes, older people do not eat that fast. Why are you going out to eat? For fun. Actually an expensive but bad experience, but we think this is no exception, there was only 1 table occupied, and that for Sunday afternoon.

Very tasty Chinese; From an early age we regularly ate at Fong Shou and even more often picked up take-out. Now living outside Capelle and with my own family we still like to come here and we don't go to the Chinese in the village, that says enough ;-). The tenderloin with sweet and sour sauce remains a classic, the hot chicken is also very tasty. Recently picked up on Christmas Eve as well as on New Year's Eve and it never gets boring ;-)

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! We regularly eat here. We have always enjoyed Christmas with the family for years, and we have always enjoyed this very much. We were here again on Christmas Day and ordered the meat and fish menu. Upon arrival we received a nice welcome drink. There would also be live music this evening with a singing Santa Claus. But this was really not what we expected. The singer had a repertoire of Dutch pub music. Mallebabe, guardian angel and so on. Some guests went dancing and did the polonaise. Now I have nothing against this music, but I enjoy it in the pub or on a party night. Cozy Christmas songs were therefore not discussed. The food really couldn't be faulted and was delicious. However, we expected more from the grande dessert. This was a wet, soggy piece of cake, where A.H. tiramisu tastes 100x better. After an hour and a half we left and spent the evening at home. If this remains the concept for Christmas, we will no longer come to celebrate Christmas here with the family.

Onbegrijpelijk, was een prima restaurant. Eten werd toen pruttelend met warmplaten opgediend. Nu wordt het eten lauw/koud op bord geserveerd zonder warmplaten. Wat een afgang. Volgens mij heeft de kwaliteit het moeten afleggen tegen de kwantiteit. Personeelsgebrek/ bezuinigingen.

Nice Chinese. At least tables not very close together. There was only 1 man serving, later 1 lady joined us every now and then. This meant that you had to wait a long time if you wanted to pay. Also around half past seven, new diners had to wait a long time at the entrance to be helped to the table. The food was all tasty, hot and portions were large enough.

Wij hebben het 7-12-2024 laten bezorgen. We hadden voor een aardig bedrag bestelt, (i.v.m. verjaardag gezinslid) bij de opmerking had ik wel gezegd of het wel goed warm aangeleverd kon worden. Maar helaas alles was minder waar het kwam koud aan. ( we hadden teveel om het even in de magnetron op te warmen,helaas)Ik weet niet of het hier aan lag maar de bezorging was ook later als wat we voor tijd hadden opgegeven. Voordeel alles wat we besteld hadden is geleverd. Bij deze voor ons geen Fong Shou meer.

Delicious food. And good portions, not too small and not too big, just good. And very nice staff, nothing is too much for them. In short, highly recommended.

Upon entering, my feeling was as if you were entering a Temple, and you really felt like you were somewhere in China, but it was really in Capelle aan den IJssel (without a Long Wall), there was a friendly welcome, the atmosphere was great and the quality of the food exceeded us, everyone in our group really enjoyed it this evening! It was an evening to look back on with pleasure and pride! I would say to anyone who follows to this location, just do it! You will also have a pleasant evening, for sure!

December 2022 Ordered for the 3rd time today at Christmas, the order was lost, and the price suddenly became Rijsstafel B 41.50. In addition, no white man came to collect it, and they suddenly could not find the order that had been placed earlier by telephone. After calling them they suddenly spoke differently. Unbelievable! They couldn't put the extra chicken in the portion for a few euros more, if only they had decided to add an extra portion themselves, yes, for an extra 15.50... what a service... thinking along is not allowed. Unfortunately this loses a few stars. Mid-October 2022 Picked up food for the 2nd time. Last time Chinese rice table B. Instead of 36 euros you pay 38.10 euros. The containers are low (half) regarding the nasi, a pity but okay. The chicken curry is more vegetable than chicken, curry chicken is the better name. Called about this on day 2, but then there was no more service. Well the moment after! The taste is okay, very tasty! Just GOOD Chinese. Summary: the price is becoming less and less acceptable for what you get!
