Fort H in Muiden

Great food. We were invited, but the prices seemed reasonable. Plenty of selection. Excellent service. So I don't remember the exact prices.

December 13, 2025, it was a glorious day, so we went to Fort H. We sat outside and, of course, had a delicious lunch.

Top place for lunch and dinner.

The food was good, but for the price, a slice of bread would have been nice. This also created an imbalance in the portions. The service and staff were excellent! 👍

I regularly dine out at fine restaurants, including Michelin-starred establishments. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service, which was practically personalized. The approach is friendly and professional. Many restaurant owners could learn from this.

A truly lovely restaurant where you can clearly see that service is paramount and the food is always delicious. There are no children's dishes, but I personally don't think that's necessary and it's perfectly fine for the kids to share what's on offer. There's plenty of choice!

This is a lovely restaurant. The menu is extensive and excellent. It's truly culinary. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is within walking distance (free), and charging stations have recently been added to the parking lot. The menu consists mainly of smaller portions that can be shared and/or combined. Meetings are also possible in one of the rooms. The restrooms are very nice and serene. And another advantage: You're back on the highway in no time.

What a beautiful spot! Superb food! Every time, something new. The service is also excellent, and the host, Marc, is always enthusiastic. Fort H is highly recommended!

They have a nice lunch menu with excellent quality and well-prepared ingredients. Although quality is more important to me than quantity, the excellent lamb I ordered would have benefited from some garnish.

The terrace is pleasant, we were comfortable. We ate well, but the quantities of the dishes were small compared to the price. The desserts were very good.

Yesterday we had a wonderful meal with friends and the food was delicious and the service was good and what I read in other reviews I do not agree with is that it is not a food barn and everything is made with taste but if you order several small portions and a platter for 2 people then you can have a delicious meal with 4 friends with wine for a good price / quality if you like large portions then you should go to a food barn or all you can eat ;-) No, it was great and we would love to come back again

Some places you stumble into by accident. Others feel like they’ve been waiting for you. Fort H in Muiden is the latter—a small restaurant tucked into a postcard-pretty Dutch town that sits on the dykes, guarding a little marina where boats bob like they’ve got nowhere better to be. The kind of scene that makes you slow down, breathe, and maybe order something that comes on ice. From the moment we hit the terrace, the staff had it dialed. No “Hi, I’m Jeff and I’ll be your server today” nonsense—just a man who understood that his job was to make sure your lunch started right. Before we even sat down properly, he offered Prosecco, Cava, or Champagne. No messing about. That’s the move of someone who knows hospitality is part showmanship, part strategy. It gets the drinks flowing, it gets you committed to the table, and in my case, it got me a glass of excellent Spanish Cava that was crisp, cold, and dangerously easy to drink. Then came the oysters—pristine, icy, briny little parcels of the sea with just enough vinaigrette to keep you from feeling like you were kissing Poseidon directly. They were good. The kind of good that shuts you up mid-sentence. Lunch itself? Spot-on. The menu isn’t a novella—it’s tight, curated. Not a single thing on there I wouldn’t order. Even the vegetarian dishes looked like they had a pulse. Service was quiet, efficient, professional. Nobody hovering. Nobody asking if “everything’s okay” every five minutes. Just the steady, almost invisible attention that comes from people who know their craft. And then there was the Dutch apple pie. I’ve had plenty in the Netherlands. This one was the best so far. Deeply spiced, buttery crust, apples that still had some fight in them. If they’d brought me a second slice, I’d have found religion on the spot. Fort H isn’t trying to reinvent food. It’s not screaming for Instagram attention. It’s just doing the job—really, really well—in a setting that makes you want to linger. I’ll be back. You should go.

Always good at Fort H, nice large terrace. With large parasols that provide shade and cooling. Great card for small but also large appetites. Lunch drinks and dinner something for everyone. Which is an added advantage. They don't make a fuss if you bring your dog, he is welcome. A bowl of water is neatly placed in front of him. Very top, other operators could follow this example. In short, we like coming to Fort H

Unfortunately, the food didn't meet my expectations at all. The dish advertised as a steak didn't look or taste like a steak to me, but rather resembled cold ground beef. The taste and quality were extremely disappointing, especially at a price of €24.50. I definitely won't order anything like that again.

Very friendly and helpful staff, a beautiful place with a rather modern extension to a beautiful historic section, which should give the front building its atmosphere, making this restaurant something special. The menu was surprisingly limited and, in my opinion, rather cluttered, with a mix of different styles, and some dishes can only be ordered for two or more people. I enjoyed the Chateubriant, thanks to my table, as this is one of the dishes you can only order for two people. The meat was tasty and well-prepared, but the obligatory fries and salad were a disappointment for a restaurant with these prices and pretensions. The food was fine, but nothing special.

The food is good, but the portions are very small. It's very expensive for what you get, and the staff is awful. I would never go there again. See the photo for a main course.

ready-made dinners not something to return to!!

Prijs/kwantiteit is matig. Eigenlijk te duur voor wat je krijgt. echter het ergste is het personeel. Werkelijk waar we hebben 3 medewerkers aan onze tafel gehad en ze hadden er allemaal geen zin in. Ik zou tegen dit personeel zeggen ga wat anders doen dan iemands avond te verstieren. Geen lach, geen enkele inleving etc. ik kwam mijn verjaardag daar vieren maar dit was de laatste keer dat ik daar ga eten.

It's always such a pleasure to be at Fort H 🤩. I regularly come here with my 75-year-old mother, who also thoroughly enjoys it! It's simply perfect here, from the attentive, friendly service to the delicious wines, dishes, and ambiance. Prices are a bit higher, but everything is just right, so it's worth it! Wonderful experience for a 65th birthday lunch with family. It's very nice to have been allocated a private dining room. The food was yummy and service attentive.

In one word ‘fantastic’! We had a really great evening. The food was great and with Mark in the service the experience was really lifted to another level. What a great guy!

Reasonable food, but price-quality ratio and atmosphere not in balance Yesterday I ate at restaurant Fort H. The food itself was tasty, but I found the portions on the small side in relation to the high price. For a restaurant in this price range you expect a bit more refinement or experience. In addition, I noticed that the restaurant could better profile itself as “adults only”. We were there with children, but the staff made it clear in subtle and not so subtle ways that young guests were not very welcome. For families with children, this is therefore not the most suitable place. In short: fine if you are looking for a quiet dinner without children and do not have to pay attention to the price, but I would not quickly return with the family.

Nice food, not way above average as one can assume from the hype of the restaurant. The cheaper options are appetiser size portions therefore they are not cheap after all. The space is really nice both in and outside making a place worth going for a couple of times.

Online reservations were problem-free. Service was excellent. The waitress warned us in advance that the portions were very small. The food was also delicious.

Delicious salad with crispy chicken eaten. Unfortunately it rained that day, but that did not dampen the atmosphere. Salad was attractively served. More than enough and extremely tasty. Nice location, reasonable prices.

Hier per toeval terecht gekomen. Bediening was erg vriendelijk. Lekkere oesters vooraf genomen. Steak tartaar was ook goed op smaak.

Een paar keer per jaar ga ik met een stel vrienden rondom het Gooi een hapje doen. Nu was Fort H aan de beurt. Na een warm welkom met een vriendelijke lach op het terras neergestreken! Snel werd er drank opgenomen en geserveerd, heelijk op zo’n mooie zonnige avond! Broodje op tafel, keurig. Fantastische kaart wij kozen voor kleine voorafjes o.a. paling (boterzacht!) spareribs (mals!) flensjes(wat een feest). Hoofdgerecht de foodplank, rijk gevuld en ook weer kwalitatief dik in orde. Frietjes mochten iets langer in het frituur, maar kon net (friet kost overal dik € 5,00 dan moet die wel goed zijn). Dessert paste niet meer. De bediening is super vriendelijk en lekker losjes.

We always like to come here. Location is great at the harbor with a nice terrace and good food but it is mainly the staff that is just experienced that makes you like to come. Yesterday whole tent full and yet everything is under control. Top business.

Nice restaurant on the edge of the center of Muiden. Next to the restaurant is a large parking lot where you can park for free. When we arrived here all the tables were there, there were still lounge benches free and the staff quickly improvised with side tables so that we could still eat something. Very friendly staff. Inside it also looks very nice and outside there are many tables. You sit here sheltered from the wind behind a dike. A lovely place with a good menu. The food was very tasty.

As a stopover we had a few cups of cappuccino, nice place right in the harbour, friendly staff!

This restaurant is my personal favorite and for good reason! The service is friendly, professional and attentive. They know their products and passionately explain the dishes and matching wines. And the food is delicious! You can choose a starter/main/dessert or you can go for fine dining, which I am a big fan of. Now they also have my favorite wine, the Passofino Pecorino and favorite food, the Gillardeau oysters. We are going again tonight!

Pinksterweekend, zondagmiddag en dan…? Lunchen bij Fort H! De perfecte invulling van een (druilerige) middag. Hier is het altijd in de watjes. Dit keer lunchen met vrienden. Aanvankelijk de bestelling niet doorgezet waardoor het 50 minuten wachten was op de eerste gang, maar dit is absoluut goedgemaakt. We hebben heerlijk gegeten ~ vitello tonato, spaghettini a la fruits de mer, pata negra en nog meer ~ mooie wijnen gedronken -Chablis, Sancerre, Pomerol, Chenin blanc- Kortom , niks te klagen. Kijken nu al uit naar het volgende Pinksterweekend.

It is a fine restaurant but we do not expect to come back here soon, partly because of the distance from home... The menu was a bit unclear and quite limited, now that does not have to be a problem but there were some (in my opinion) special combinations that were not for us. We do not eat fish etc. and unfortunately many dishes had something of the sea, such as tenderloin with crayfish. The steak tartare was very tasty. Most of the menu was for the wine, but we do not drink wine. The atmosphere was good for us. We had a separate room without our own speakers, so the music was not too dominant; otherwise I expect we would have found it a bit noisy. The service was very friendly and helpful. We came here with someone who has difficulty walking and where the inside was perfectly suitable for this, the pebble path to the entrance was a big challenge. When we were waiting outside - one of us was inside asking if there was another entrance without pebbles - 2 women came out on modest heels over that path who also had trouble with the path, not least because the path also sloped slightly towards the pebbles. Now I sound a bit negative, but for people who love fish and have no problem with a pebble path, it is possibly a great location.

Wederom een tegenvaller. Ging met een vriendin die wel een goede ervaring had gehad bij Fort H, dus gaf ik het nog maar weer een keer een kans. Oesters en flessen water werden je aangeboden / bijna opgedrongen. Gehaaste ober… idee dat je snel moest beslissen. Uiteindelijk een hoofdmaaltijd besteld. Deze bestond uit een eetlepel rijst, 1 grote gamba en een piepklein stukje ossenhaas… kostte 25 euro. Totaal niet in verhouding. Bijna diefstal en dan zal ik het over de rest maar niet hebben. Eenmaal weer thuis nog heerlijk wat gegeten, want om nou met een vrijwel lege maag naar bed te gaan…. Voor mij is Fort H wellicht een keer geschikt voor 1 drankje of een kop koffie, maar eten zeker nooit meer!

Nice location, in my case for lunch. Nice creative menu, food is tasty and just enough. Perhaps not for the big eater, but you can always order something extra.

Nice place to have something to eat. Nice card and chic set up. Yet as simple motorcyclists we were treated kindly here and there was even room for a chat with the staff. The food was very good, something for everyone. It took a long time before someone came to us again and it was difficult to signal the staff. Nevertheless, worth repeating!

Delicious food. Started around half past seven and went home at half past twelve. Service wasn't great at first, probably due to a new member of staff, but it was noticed quite quickly by the senior staff and then everything went smoothly. Nice atmosphere. Delicious dishes. Beautiful place, atmospheric. Food was fine, but service could be better. Our bowl of sweet potato fries was cleared even though it was not yet empty. It was so chic to ask us if we still wanted to eat this. The staff does not exude genuine cordiality and did not give us a hospitable feeling. Shame

Het interieur is prachtig en geeft een goede sfeer, echter de kwaliteit van het eten is niet om naar huis te schrijven. Wij vroegen om een bepaald gerecht om geen zout toe te voegen, echter het was door het zout haast niet te eten. Ook voor de rest van de maaltijden gold dat het naar onze mening met weinig passie was gemaakt.

Reviewing the reviews I guess the alcohol is speaking?? Food: consistently bad to very bad . No taste, overcooked and / or refridgerated. Totally overpriced. Service: somehow kind in an unkind way, they look and act stressed, overworked and with a preference for white locals? Atmosphere: this is the 4* part of this place. It is a beautiful spot with a good eye for decor & design.

Wat is deze plek opgeknapt! Al weer paar jaar geleden prachtig verbouwd. Mooie zaak. Het overgrote deel van de bediening doet een geweldige job om je welkom te laten voelen. Kaart is best uitgebreid. Keukenbridage levert keer op keer een mooi product. Groot terras in de zomer!

Taken a veggie burger. Frozen burger, the fries are also standard appie fries, easy to make your own fries. I am very disappointed given the appearance of the restaurant and is therefore not worth a second visit.

Mooie zaak maar van een 'mooi bord kun je niet eten'. 3 st Jakobs kussentjes voor 19 euro en 1 ervan kwam in stukken ontploft aan en de 2 anderen te lang gebakken waardoor ze rubber waren. De 'spare ribs' waren eveneens in dezelfde prijsklasse en lauw. Over de Peking Eend qua kwaliteit weinig te melden. Omdat er nergens een behoorlijke steak op de kaart staat besloten 2 van ons de Chateaubriand te bestellen. 68 euro en compleet doorbakken geserveerd, terwijl er om een medium/ well done gevraagd was. Dit was well done 'Plus'. Een tijd lang de serveerster telepatisch te bereiken maar niet gelukt. Het was zo druk dat ze aan de andere kant van de zaak verdwenen leek. Over het algemeen is alles waanzinnig duur voor wat je krijgt maar als kookkunst tot gepruts verword dan moet je je ernstig afvragen als restaurant wat er fout. gaat. Over de bediening weinig nieuws behalve dat ze mega druk zijn en het lijkt of dat er te weinig handjes zijn te midden van een slechte akoestiek. Over de keuken en de kaart niks goeds te melden: kwaliteit bedroevend en een fantasieloze kaart. Omwille van de gunstige lokatie nu 3 keer een poging gedaan maar dit was wel de laatste. Wat een beschamende keuken vertoning....

Came here for drinks on Sunday afternoon. The place was quite empty and yet we were put in an uncomfortable corner. We asked if we could sit somewhere else, this was only allowed if we could free the table within 45 minutes, so we didn't. 45 minutes later the place (and the table where we wanted to sit) was still empty. Drinks were ok.

Food was alright, service was appalling. Won't be returning in a hurry.

First experience in 2023, went back in 2024 and it is still an excellent restaurant. The service is impeccable, the food is very tasty and the prices are according to the quality. Would highly recommend to anyone!

The lady serving didn't feel like it. I grabbed the menu myself after waiting 15 minutes. Then the plate was almost thrown on the table with a sigh. Also quite expensive for the quality.

Had lunch here in October. Beautiful and atmospheric restaurant in an old fortress right on the harbour. They have a spacious and beautiful sunny terrace. The decoration is attractive, chic but warm. Service very attentive and as you would expect. A wide choice of smaller dishes on the menu. The idea is that you order a number of individual dishes to ultimately create a complete meal. I had a very tasty meal and will definitely come back here again.

In oktober hier geluncht. Mooi en sfeervol restaurant in een oude vesting direct aan de haven. Ze hebben een ruim en mooi zonnig terras. Aankleding is sfeervol, chique maar warm. Bediening zeer attent en zoals je verwacht. Op de kaart een ruime keuze aan kleinere gerechten. De bedoeling is dat je een aantal losse gerechten besteld om uiteindelijk tot een complete maaltijd te komen. Ik heb zeer lekker gegeten en kom hier zeker nog eens terug.

We waren een middag op stap geweest met vrienden. We troffen gastvrij personeel aan. In een gezellige setting. Het eten was heerlijk. De prijs netjes. Een echte aanrader!

Nice restaurant in good location. Tables were very cramped and close together. We both had burgers for dinner and it was meh. Simple burger on a crispy bun. No other toppings on the burger other than one lettuce leaf. Also no garnishes. So you actually got quite little for a quite expensive price of €21. Fries were tasty.

After a walk with a friend, we decided to have dinner at this restaurant. The place looks good. Large terrace and beautiful hall. The waiter greeted us arrogantly, puffing out his cheeks and offered to sit on the terrace. The second waiter, a girl, kindly but ineptly took the order. The third waiter brought food. The entrecote was warm, it might even have been good if it had been brought when it was ready. The potatoes looked like they came from Mac Donald, they forgot the mayonnaise, and instead of stewed vegetables they got an inexpressive salad. The scallops were good. French chardonnay saved dinner. Tea in a bag, good coffee. Order price 60 euros.

Restaurant Fort H in Muiden is een culinaire parel die absoluut een bezoek waard is. Gelegen in een historische omgeving, biedt dit restaurant niet alleen een prachtige ambiance, maar ook een menu dat de zintuigen prikkelt. Onze recente ervaring daar was niets minder dan uitstekend. Een van de meest opvallende aspecten van mijn bezoek aan Fort H was de selectie van kleine (lunch) gerechten. Elk gerecht was met zorg en aandacht bereid, wat resulteerde in een explosie van smaken bij elke hap. De chef-kok heeft duidelijk oog voor detail; de presentatie van de gerechten was niet alleen aantrekkelijk, maar ook creatief. Dit maakte onze lunch tot een waar feest voor het oog en de smaakpapillen. Van delicate voorgerechten tot verrassende combinaties, elk gerecht vertelde zijn eigen verhaal en droeg bij aan een onvergetelijke eetervaring. Wat echt opviel tijdens ons bezoek was het oog voor detail dat in elk aspect van het restaurant aanwezig was. Van de inrichting tot de presentatie van de gerechten, alles leek met veel zorg te zijn samengesteld. Het personeel was goed geïnformeerd over het menu en kon deskundig advies geven, iets wat bijdroeg aan de algehele ervaring. Het is duidelijk dat hier passie en toewijding achter schuilgaat. Het personeel bij Fort H verdient speciale vermelding. Hun vriendelijkheid en professionaliteit maakten de lunch nog aangenamer. Ze waren attent zonder opdringerig te zijn, en hun enthousiasme voor het eten en drinken droeg bij aan de positieve sfeer in het restaurant. Het lijkt erop dat ze echt om hun gasten geven en ervoor zorgen dat iedereen zich welkom voelt. Conclusie Al met al kunnen wij Restaurant Fort H in Muiden ten zeerste aanbevelen aan iedereen die op zoek is naar een unieke culinaire ervaring. De combinatie van uitstekende kleine gerechten, oog voor detail en vriendelijk personeel maakt dit restaurant tot een must-visit bestemming. Dus…. wij komen zeker nog eens terug!

Too expensive for what you get to eat. I'm not fond of waiters who want to sell you champagne or other bubbles: Too pushy.

The food is always great, the service always friendly. One disadvantage for us, you are recently no longer allowed to smoke on the terrace, so we will not be eating here again anytime soon when the weather is nice.

Fort H was om meerdere reden bijzonder. Het is een mooie locatie, zeker als het mooi weer is het fijn zitten op het terras. De gastvrijheid is opvallend, dat maak je niet heel veel mee. De gastheer had echt belangstelling voor zijn gasten en was attent. Een voorbeeld is een fles water die eigenlijk te veel was. Hij vroeg of wij die nog wilden hebben en haalde de fles daarna weg. Het eten zag er mooi verzorgd uit en het smaakte ook goed. De kaart was uitgebreid. Met de ervaring die wij hadden, raad ik Fort H een iedereen aan.
