After visiting the restaurants in down town Emmen it was time to move out of our covenient moves. Gasterij Zuidbarge it is. We ordered a 3 course meal. There is plenty of choice for everybodies taste. In our group we had 1 person with gluten allergies and 1 person with mlactose allergies. This was no problem, they were able to accomodate without any questions. The food is very good and has excellent flavour and is very well prepared. With a bit more finesh and refinement, they can go very far. The service was extremly good, staff realy explained the dishes and knew what they were talking about. Reservations are required to get a table it is very often fully booked. Higly recommendable, we will return.

We had a very tasty meal here...there is no menu card and you read the menu on large chalk boards in the room. Quite unusual but enough choice. The food is very well prepared and staff is friendly. See photos of our dishes. This is highly recommended.

Buitengewoon goed restaurant, de beste in de regio Emmen. Er stond carpaccio en bavette op de kaart en deze waren beide geweldig. Vooral de carpaccio was anders dan dat je gewend bent maar bijzonder smakelijk. Ook de bavette was heerlijk. De bediening attent en vriendelijk. De prijs is bovengemiddeld maar dat is het absoluut waard.

Dit restaurant is de absolute topper van omgeving Emmen. Volop parkeerruimte, ruim opgezette tafels, uitstekend verstaanbaar en uitmuntende bediening. En niet te vergeten het eten: in één woord 'voortreffelijk'. Perfecte smaakcombinaties afgewisseld met heldere uitleg zonder over de top te zijn. Het vlees was zo mals dat het mes er vrijwel doorheen viel. Chapeau. En alles was ruim voldoende. Dit restaurant is echt een aanrader. Let op: als hun website is aangepast voor gebruik met je telefoon zul je waarschijnlijk weken tevoren moeten reserveren. We hadden nu nog geluk en konden snel reserveren. Pieter Frijters

Yesterday we ate here for the 2nd time and this time with friends. We chose the surprise menu. A great accommodation. Plenty of space to park, spacious tables, professional service and surprising combinations of flavours. Super tender meat that your knife almost glides through. Really fresh tasting fish. Iberico ham that melts in your mouth. Explanation of the dishes without being exaggerated. Super, super good. And when you come home from eating in a star restaurant you are always still hungry. That was definitely not the case here. A really satisfied feeling. Chapeau. The only thing that could be improved is the website. It does not look accessible on a phone. For us it was nice because we could make a reservation quickly. If the website were to improve I think we would soon have to make a reservation 2 months in advance. This restaurant is a TOPPER. Goede verhalen over gehoord, dus hoog tijd om hier eens een vork te prikken. Ontvangst is hartelijk…amuse en wijn smaken prima en dan gaan we voor 5 gangen…en alle 5 zijn prima, enige puntje is dat de porties royaal zijn…en dus komen we erg vol weg…maar dat is prima. Hoogtepunt is het eerste voorgerecht, een werkelijk geweldig stuk dorade. En de meer dan charmante stagiair die ons bedient is geweldig…vriendelijk, netjes en een beetje humor. Wij zijn meer dan tevreden!

Really delicious food, ok it's not cheap but they are also not frugal with their portions so the price/quality ratio is excellent. Everything beautifully presented and really tasty. The tastiest fries too! And fantastic wine list. We will come back here again. We were here for a short holiday in Parc Sandur which is an 8 minute drive from this restaurant. I would go back again just for this restaurant!

What a fantastic experience! The food was delicious, the service super attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere in the restaurant made it complete. I felt really welcome and can recommend this to anyone who likes good food and a cozy atmosphere. Really a place where I would like to come back!

Because of the great reviews we went to Gasterij Zuidbarge for a family dinner (12 people), but it turned out to be a big disappointment! We were told to read the menu of the wall a couple of metres from our table (with two elderly people who have trouble walking). Quite a strange way to run your business, especially since it's not a cafeteria. It was very noisy in the restaurant, it was busy, but people weren't talking very loud, the acoustics is just very bad. We only had some bread + butter as a starter, to which the waitress reaction was that we would have to wait relatively longer for our main courses because we didn't get proper starters. Peculiar, I suppose we aren't the only guests that don't want starters. While dining, one of us found a hair in his meal. On top of that: while unfolding his napkin he found a whole bunch of hair. When I told a waitress, her reaction was not surprised or shocked at all and she said pretty careless that she was sorry. We are not the kind of people that make a scene in public, so we just left to never come back.

Gasterij Zuidbarge is highly recommended! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. The food was delicious and clearly prepared with care; the homemade carrot cake is a must-try! The cozy atmosphere and the beautiful interior complete the picture. A perfect place for a pleasant evening.

Had a delicious five-course menu with a wine pairing. Very friendly staff and definitely value for money. Also nice specialty beers!

Super food, great guest ladies. You can sit there and enjoy a lovely meal. Just the drinking phooh. It's quite affordable. Look after. You may be shocked.

Beautiful place to eat in the Emmen area. When the weather is nice you can sit on the terrace, although it is also attractively decorated inside. We ordered a sandwich in advance to share, the tapenade was delicious! Just like the other dishes we ordered. They advised me against the dish that I wanted to order well-done, but they did come up with a delicious alternative, namely a stew. The side dishes were good. The homemade fries are nice and crispy and have a nice matching mayonnaise. The vegetables also tasted good. For dessert we shared the Eton mess, also delicious.

Het eten was heel goed. Een carpaccio zoals nog nooit meegemaakt. Rijk voorzien van allerlei extra ingrediënten. Het hoofdgerecht was ook goed te noemen. Het nagerecht met twee personen gegeten. Voor een persoon waarschijnlijk teveel. Edoch, voortreffelijk voorzien van verschillende gerechtjes en smakelijk. De kok is dit keer niet aan tafel geweest. De vorige keren maakte hij een leuke babbel, wat voor ons een toegevoegde waarde heeft gegeven.

Super lekker gegeten , gekozen voor het 4 gangen verrasingsmenu en dat was geweldig. Ook de bediening en eigenaar heel erg vriendelijk , eigenaar komt ook even langs om praatje te maken. voor mij een van de beste restaurants van Emmen. En komen hier zeker weer terug . Groet Gerard

Had a delicious meal with colleagues.

Unfortunately, despite timely reservation, we ate in the "side room" with 3 tables.. quality good.. mediocre environment. Previously better experience in terms of table etc. Too bad... we were with friends who ate there for the first time...

Always very tasty. Ramon, cook, just a nice, ordinary guy. Always up for a chat with customers. Always take 3 courses of meat. Nowhere in the 59 km radius around Emmen can you find such a top restaurant. One highly recommended.

It all started when we received it; we were put down and service walked away. We were not given a map nor an explanation of the concept. When the lady returned, it was explained to us that we found the menu on the wall and then we were asked what we wanted to drink. Since we didn't get a card, we just ordered a general beer, red wine and spa red. We got that, but the bottle of water was opened, lukewarm and unbranded. Later it turned out that this came from a tap and (assumed) was not spring water but normal tap water. Turnoff 1. A little later another table came in and received the drinks menu neatly... Letdown 2. Because we both eat vegetarian and they only had 2 vegetarian choices (turn-off 2.5) for the main menu, we decided to surprise ourselves by ordering the 3-course surprise menu. Upon receipt, as far as we could judge, it turned out to mainly consist of parts of the other dishes, but with the animal component omitted. So not surprising. Turnoff 3. Still tasty, by the way. All in all, we were quite disappointed with our visit, especially the fact that they dare to charge €2.25 for 25 cl of tap water with some bubbles is really scandalous for a restaurant with such a reputation in the region... We won't be going there anymore...

Fantastic food in a very cozy environment with friendly staff. Recommended!

De vis die mijn vrouw geserveerd kreeg was absoluut niet vers. Ik wil het niet erger maken maar laat ik zeggen: er zat een luchtje aan dat deed vermoeden dat het een beetje aan het bederven was. Ze had dan ook prompt diarree de volgende ochtend. Ook mijn aubergine, geserveerd bij de ribeye was niet gaar. De knoflook mayonaise rook naar van alles behalve knoflook. De frieten waren hompen ongeschilde aardappelen. De saus bij het vlees was onsmakelijk en voegde niets toe. Wij zullen nooit terugkomen. Een nachtmerrie voor bijna 100 euro om je verjaardag te vieren? Om nooit te vergeten, zo slecht. Wat een armoe….

Delicious food. The dishes have a nice taste and are nicely prepared. Not exactly cheap, but very tasty and therefore not too expensive. Nice and alert service. Highly recommended for a fun and delicious evening out for dinner!

17 of March we always celebrate the day we met first and one year later again, after which it was final. Now that's 52 years ago. Time to celebrate ( once more ). The Gasterij has normal looking dishes, but every time they succeed to produce unexpected combinations of local food. They start with a little, tasty amuse. We both continued with a "bitterbal" and not the kind from the supermarket. Slowly matured meat. Then I had the ribeye with mushroom sauce. But I ate three quarters of it without the sauce before I noticed. Just tender meat ( 300 gr ), with hidden some tasty rims of lard. Just added a tip of salt. The sauce gave the meat just a little extra. Served witch grandmother's potatochips and home-made maynaise. Little salade on the side. A firm, red syrrah in the glass, For dessert we together ordered a one-person collection of dessert examples and completed with an espresso. For this occasion they took the board with the desserts from the wall to the table . And their espresso is accompanied with a chocolate bonbon. You can still walk home in a decent way.

Best restaurant in the area, this is what I call EATING OUT... great!!

Fantastische plek om vergaderen te combineren met heerlijk eten, uitstekende bediening voor een prima prijs.

We had a 4-course surprise menu, with good quantity and variety. Delicious food and good wine. Worth repeating.

Enthousiaste zwarte brigade, uitstekende keuken, met aandacht bereid en alles vers. Ruime opstelling van tafels. Interieur wat gedateerd; mag wat meer gezelligheid in. Porties wel erg groot. Verrassingsmenu is prima, maar gerechten mogen iets beter op elkaar aansluiten. Anderhalf ons (uitstekend bereide) vis na het voorgerecht en voor het hoofdgerecht van vlees is iets teveel van het goede. Maar kwaliteit en gastvrijheid maken veel goed.

A nice atmosphere for a quiet meal. Food prepared with great care, often with a special twist added. The place is beautiful in greenery. Alongside the canal.

I had a nice meal, but had to ask the waiter twice to add more :( (I also know that these are busy days) And it is very noisy when all tables are occupied.

Gisteren avond voor het eerst geweest en het was goed wel wat kleine kaart ik had een stoofpotje op het laatst wat zeentjes dat was jammer voor de rest goed

Met ons vriendengroepje zondagavond genoten van het verrassingsmenu maar zeker ook van de sfeer van dit restaurant. De bediening vindt het leuk om goede gastvrouwen te zijn en het ons naar de zin te maken. Attent, niet opdringerig. Het eten lekker bereid en goed verzorgd. Dank jullie wel voor de gastvrijheid.

Gemütliches Restaurant, gediegene Küche, freundliche Bedienung. Wir hatten nicht reserviert, trotzdem hat man uns noch einen Tisch frei gemacht. Das Essen war sehr lecker und reichlich. Auch für einen netten Plausch hat sich der Wirt persönlich Zeit genommen. Jederzeit wieder.

Heerlijk gegeten. Vriendelijke bediening. Er staan heerlijke gerechten op de kaart en het verrassingsmenu was super. Echt een aanrader!

Wir waren am 18.08.2023 um 15:00Uhr, vor der Öffnungszeit, dort und wurden sehr freundlich aufgenommen und bedient. Es war ein sehr schöner Nachmittag. Essen war sehr lecker.

Hallo , wij wonen in de omgeving van Zuidbarge , wij lopen vaak voor het restaurant langs en dachten nu , even naar binnen. Een en al lof , we komen hier zeker nog wel weer langs .

Uitstekend restaurant in eigenlijk alle opzichten. Ik had de ribeye steak met vooraf cantharellen soep, en als dessert kwark kersen taart. Ook bij mijn drie tafel genoten beviel het goed.

Heerlijk gegeten. Lekker vers. Verschillende smaaksensaties op je bord. Leuke plek. Mooi ingericht restaurant.

Ramon weet altijd te verrassen. Er wordt goed gekookt. Porties zijn wel wat aan de forse kant. Gastheer/vrouwschap is altijd losjes en prettig. Fijne bierkaart. Aanrader!

Goede service, leuke bediening, goed eten wat wil je nog meer

Goed gegeten. Eigenaar komt Persoonlijke bij je langs na het eten. Was wel wat warm binnen. Maar buiten ook.

Altijd heerlijk hier, ik woon in Italië, maar als ik in NL kom ga ik graag naar dit restaurant! Aanrader op alle gebied

Top topper Gasterij Overheelrijk gegeten en zeer vriendelijke bediening.

Lekker gegeten alleen de keuze vondt ik de keuze in de gerechten matig aangezien ik meer een menukaart had verwacht met meer keuzes. Entourage was zeer gemoedelijk en een hele lieve attente bediening. Het toetje was erg lekker!

Op een vrijdagavond in april 2022 gegeten. Gekozen voor een 5-gangen verrassingsmenu met vlees als hoofdgerecht. Vooraf een amuse van het huis met iets gelei-achtigs en roomkaas. Daarna stokbroodje, gevolgd door een voorgerecht van salade met feta in een krokant jasje. Voor degene die geen kaas luste was de feta vervangen door carpaccio. Daarna een kopje tomatensoep. Het hoofdgerecht was procureurvlees van het Ibericovarken. Als toetje een heerlijk ijsje. Om de avond af te sluiten een bakje koffie met een drankje. Omdat we niet konden kiezen welk drankje bood de ober aan ze allemaal te nemen. Dit waren 12 borreltjes te delen met ons vieren. Op een bijbehorend schoolbord was geschreven wat elk borreltje was. Dit is een leuk idee. Prijs voor 5-gangen menu was 57,50 euro. Alle gerechten zagen er heel mooi uit en waren erg lekker behalve de amuse. Deze was een beetje smakeloos. Vriendelijke en grappige ober. Na het eten kwam de kok nog even aan tafel. Prijs kwaliteit is goed. Geen doorsnee gerechten maar eens een keer wat anders. Super mooi opgemaakt. In december 2022 weer gegeten. Nu een 4-gangen verrassingsmenu. Voorgerecht carpaccio met een kaasgratin, tussengerecht een victoriabaars, hoofdgerecht een lekkere malse ossenhaas. Als toetje ijs met een koek. Eten was weer super. De bediening was erg vriendelijk maar jong, had geen verstand van wijn maar er werd ook niet iemand ingeschakeld die daar wel verstand van had. Wederom hier gegeten op een zaterdagavond in maart 2023. Gekozen voor een 4-gangen en 5-gangen menu. Alles zag er weer zeer verzorgd uit. Eten was wederom zeer lekker. Deze keer genoeg gekwalificeerd personeel. Bij elk gerecht werd uitgelegd wat het was. Helaas lukt het niet om de foto's van de laatste keer toe te voegen.

Erg goed eten wel erg gehorig. De akoestiek kan stukken beter . Je kunt elkaar amper verstaan.

Een avond gehad om nooit te vergeten 😉. Een heel sfeervol en ruimopgezet restaurant en waar heel duidelijk met liefde wordt gekookt. Laat je dan verrassen met het 3, 4, 5 of 5+ verrassingsmenu of kies een van de gerechten telkens wisselen, vandaar geen menu kaart. Heerlijke avond gehad met super lekker eten! We komen zeker nog eens terug.

Top restaurant zeer zekers voor herhaling vatbaar.

Hier is eten altijd weer een feest. Heerlijk genieten van prachtig opgemaakte borden en alles super vers. Tip: Neem een verrassing menu!

Niet mijn soort restaurant. Menu moest je aflezen van krijtborden die aan de wand hingen. Niet veel variatie in het menu. De sfeer hebben we zelf meegenomen.

Van buiten misschien ouderwets alleen van binnen modern, gezellige sfeer, goede afstand tussen de tafels, personeel met humor en een lach.
