Had a great experience at this restaurant. The dishes and steaks are kept straightforward and simple, but the quality and preparation are really excellent. Everything was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Definitely recommended.

I've been back here after a long time, but it has really gone downhill. It's become quite pricey; you have to pay for all side dishes separately, including fries, except with the spareribs I had, but then there wasn't even a salad with it. It's a shame that you have to do almost everything in English now. I think the toilets really need some attention too, by the way. I also find the portions have indeed become smaller. The location, on the other hand, remains top-notch.

Great place, great atmosphere. Delicious food. A steak house, and a very good one at that, because the tenderloin here is delicious and professionally prepared. Well served by the waitress. However, we did wait more than an hour for the food. But ultimately, it was super cozy and a very good restaurant. Definitely recommended for a place in Utrecht.

Lovely restaurant, down on the docks, along the river, with professional and charming waiters and delicious food. What else to ask for? All the sides were also great, they also have a menu for the kids which is very convenient for us, and they brought them a few color pencils and something to colorize. Thanks and see you again!

I have eaten here several times. The chance that the spareribs will taste good is 3 out of 4. Sometimes they are nice and tender, and other times a bit too dry. The salmon is not exceptional either. However, the staff are often nice, and I come here mainly for the atmosphere. Because it is a lovely place to sit with friends, family, or for dinner for two. The food is fine.

The quality of the food was really top-notch, but the portions are very meager. We had a share plate, but even if you had eaten it all by yourself, you would still have gone home hungry. Just to be tasty, we ordered a piece of steak with fries on the side. The steak was delicious but small, and the amount of fries was disappointing. We are now just going to grab a pastry somewhere to fill our bellies a bit.

The quality of Gauchos has declined significantly. Although the steaks are still very good, the service has gotten worse. In the past, they took their time with you and were happy to introduce you to the Gauchos concept. They would show you the different types of steaks raw and explain the differences if you hadn't eaten at Gauchos before. The service during the meal always made it feel like a chic restaurant. This was the reason I took people there. However, the last three times have been a major disappointment. For instance, the last time they forgot to give us the menu. After 15 minutes, they snatched the menu and drinks list from the neighbors, after which we received them. Furthermore, we received no explanation about the steaks like in the past. We were also not asked if we wanted a sauce with our meal, meaning we had to follow up on this later. The wait staff also didn't know exactly which cut of steak was on the plate. None of this would be so bad if you were eating at a budget place. However, we paid €120 for two people. For this price, I expect a bit more hospitality. Also, guests around us were very noisy, for example, shouting at passing boats.

Super nice staff! All the workers are really knowledgeable and enthusiastic to help. The manager Peter is very kind and always ready to help :) The food tastes amazing, especially the Gauchos selection is recommendable. The quality is great and the cooks are very experienced. Definitely the best steakhouse in the Netherlands!

Delicious cocktail on a terrace by the old canal!!♥️

I recently dined here with my son, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. For starters, we had carpaccio. It was very simple, the portion was small, and it was not neatly presented. That already gave a mediocre first impression. Unfortunately, more went wrong during the main course. The staff was clearly inexperienced. A waitress knocked over my glass of beer, causing me to get completely covered in drink and almost fall backwards. Fortunately, people at the tables next to and behind me were able to catch me. This was a really unpleasant and unsafe situation. Furthermore, my meat was served too rare, even though I had clearly ordered medium. The fries were already cold when they were served. When settling the bill, it also turned out that a beer was listed on the bill that had fallen over during the incident and which I had not drunk. This was eventually corrected, but only after consultation and with considerable difficulty. By comparison: I have been here before during a company outing, and the quality and service were significantly better then. This time, it seemed as if there was little experienced staff present. My son (who has just finished his HAVO) also found the price-quality ratio disappointing. Unfortunately, this was the last time for me. The experience did not match what you would expect for this price.

Capacio, but small and simple, also in terms of presentation. Unfortunately, tournodos lukewarm; ordered extra mushroom sauce, also lukewarm. Sweet potato and the regular fries were soggy. Mogitjo 11.- for a small glass with 3/4 ice is outrageously expensive in my opinion. Service messy, bringing food when the whole table is still sitting with empty glasses. Expected more from Gauchos. Only the price is Premium! In other words, it is not proportionate!

The quality of the spareribs and steaks was not what you would expect at an Argentinian restaurant. Spareribs on an empty plate also look a bit meager. The spareribs were Sligro quality. Not what you expect at an Argentinian restaurant. The service was fine, but it wasn't service with a smile. Tips: make sure you have cleaning cloths on hand. And don't serve the bill until asked for. Fry the fries a little longer; they look better and taste better too.

Affordable, lovely location, and delicious food!

Eating in my favorite city, Utrecht. Had a delicious meal today at Gauchos, an Argentinian restaurant on the Oude Gracht. It was pleasantly busy, so sitting inside was no hardship. Ultimately, it is all about the food. I ordered a Bife de Cuadril, a wonderfully tender steak. I ordered medium, but the cooking time was slightly too short (45 seconds) for medium. Medium rare was fine. Side dishes are not included by default, which I find strange. You have to order these separately. The very friendly waitress (her first day) did her best, but she lacked knowledge. May she be forgiven. Afterwards, I had a nice chat with her and left some tips. I'll get there! Back to the steak......wow, great flavor, medium rare, but above all, big. 300g. Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere! The service could still learn a thing or two (never hand plates, cutlery, glasses, etc. directly to the guest, but always serve and clear from the left).

We really enjoyed ourselves here last year, but tonight it was way, far, far below par. Aperol Spritz: a heavily diluted version; I was given a new one, and it was more of the same. The third version was - barely - passable. Starters - scallops - were reasonable (last year they were actually very good). We wanted to order wine with the main course: the wine list arrived, but no one came to take our order. We just started on our main course. The meat was good, but the fries were already cold immediately after serving. I was too stunned to say anything about that either; after all, I had been invited by a friend to eat here. We really appreciate a good tip if it's worth it, but tonight a substantial discount would have been more appropriate. A real shame. We are going to look for other places.

I recently dined here with a friend and it was a very successful experience. The food was of good quality, with deliciously tender meat. Exactly what you would expect given the price. The service was attentive and provided good advice when needed. The owner was also involved and pitched in, which made a great impression. The atmosphere on the terrace was very pleasant. All in all, definitely recommended.

The Aperol Spritz was full of water. For 9.5€ I expect a perfect spritz in its simplicity.

For years, we were able to enjoy the best spare ribs in Utrecht. I came here from the age of 6 until the beginning of this year. We loved coming here with the family and with groups of friends. It is a shame that your concept has been changed and that unlimited spare ribs are no longer part of it. Especially for meat lovers, this is a real letdown if you normally eat 3 ribs there. Current concept: 1 Rib €24, extra ribs €13. 24 + 13 + 13 = €50 (it used to be €25/30 for unlimited). I understand that it needs to be profitable, but now it is really getting out of hand. For us, this has truly marked the end of the Gauchos era. We still hope that you will change your mind and return to your old concept. <3

The meat was very good, however, paying separately for the side dishes is something you never get used to.

It smelled a bit there, the service did their best but we thought Rotterdam was better. There was also something on the bill that wasn't ours. The fries were just from a bag and not fresh.

Last weekend, my boyfriend and I had a wonderful meal at Gauchos! The food was excellent; the meat was so tender your knife glided right through. The space isn't huge, but it's still comfortable and you're not bothered by your neighbors. The staff was attentive and friendly, which made the service excellent. I highly recommend enjoying this place!

I've already left a 5-star review, but I'm doing it again just to let the staff know they're truly amazing. I've been coming here for years, and the food and service never disappoint. The service is incredibly professional (I don't know where the owners get their skills from, but they deserve it!), and the food is sooo delicious! When I've had a long day and don't feel like cooking, I go here with my boyfriend or friends because we're truly pampered here. Thank you for the always fantastic service and the amazing food.

The ribs were pretty decent. Fries were way too plain, and the vegetables were honestly a big disappointment. Had to ask the service multiple times for things like mayonnaise etc. which was annoying. I expected a better service & quality for this money.

Mediocre food, not steakhouse-worthy. Price-quality ratio is out of whack.

In case you thought this was related to "El Gaucho's" fine dining chain...it isn't. Wonderful atmosphere and aesthetics, but it stops there. Food was served over an hour late and luke warm. Ordered two sides of spinach and scallops, and received two bowls of raw spinach with raw pine nuts. As we were nearly done eating, they remembered to bring the other sides. In the beginning they came to our table to tell us something I've never heard in any Western European restaurant: "we are out of pasta". The food was very mediocre, and the service was painfully slow, even though only half the restaurant was booked. When we dared ask for the dessert menu, it took so long to arrive, and the menu was so uninspired, we decided to have dessert at home instead.

We regularly eat out at various types of restaurants. Since we're meat lovers, we often end up at a grill restaurant. But I've rarely had to pay extra for a salad and some fries because the meat was quite expensive. If you want to attract people, by all means stick with this concept. The food, by the way, was very good.

At this fine restaurant, we had an unexpectedly unpleasant experience. One of the scallops in a dish looked strange, but we were assured it was fine. Upon returning home, the person who ate the scallop became seriously ill. A classic case of food poisoning. We reported it to the restaurant the next day. An apology or some interest in the well-being of the sick person would have been appropriate. But they simply dismissed it with, "Thanks, we'll report it." All in all, disappointing and disturbing.

I went to this (gorgeous) Gauchos location for the first time on Sunday evening with my daughter. In short: the staff are friendly and attentive. The food is truly delicious. And the atmosphere is so relaxed, despite the crowds. In other words: highly recommended.

They've mastered the art of creating a delicious piece of meat. The service is fast and friendly. My only complaint is the lack of acoustic dampening/panels. It's like a very noisy chicken coop. Personally, I don't like that.

Get the cheese bread! I am sensitive to gluten and cross contamination and had no issues here. They were very knowledgeable and accompanying with my allergies. Great food.

We had a good first impression upon entering. The restaurant was easy to find, the atmosphere was pleasant, and we received quick and friendly service. We were given a table at the back of the restaurant. It sometimes took a while to get attention, but when we did, it was friendly. Drinks were served quickly and the prices were reasonable. We started with a bread platter, which was quickly brought to the table and was very tasty. We had to wait a bit for the main course, but that wasn't surprising on a Friday evening; we were all having a good time together. When the food arrived, one dish was missing. We had to wait another 4-5 minutes for it. That last dish tasted as if it had been hastily thrown in the pan and then somewhat forgotten. The other main courses were good, but by the time the last dish arrived, they had already cooled considerably. The side dishes were also disappointing, with a small quantity for the price. What we found disappointing was the lack of attentive service. We really had to get their attention before we were helped, possibly because we were sitting in a kind of "forgotten corner" in the back. In the end, we weren't helped and were already gone before this could happen. The dishes that were good were really tasty, but the experience would have been much better if someone had paid more attention to us and the timing of the dishes and the table service had been better.

We came here for dinner to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and had really been looking forward to it. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by the host – a warm welcome that boded well. But then things went south. The waitress brought the menus and then seemed to completely forget about us. We tried several times to get her attention, but without success. In the end, my husband had to wave vigorously before she noticed us. We waited over an hour for our appetizer (bread and salad) and then over an hour and a half for our main course. During that entire time, we were never asked if we wanted another drink, nor did we receive a single update or apology. The food itself was delicious, but the service was cold, disinterested, and completely unfocused. Even when we paid, we couldn't quite manage to have a "pleasant evening." Such a shame, especially considering the prices and the fact that we were here to celebrate our anniversary.

It took a very long time for the food to arrive, and almost all the staff speak English and are very inexperienced. I broke glasses of drinks several times, it was very noisy and close together, and my tenderloin wasn't medium rare. It's a shame, but there was nothing they could do about it. My partner's spareribs were extremely dry and inedible.

Steak was excellent. I had a Fillet and coworkers ordered other steaks. They all came out perfectly done.

Too expensive for what it delivery. It was tasty but I ordered the rustic fries and they brought French fries. I ordered the file medium done and some parts tasted like burnt.

Yesterday, I enjoyed fantastic food and excellent service here with my parents. We usually always go to Amsterdam Gauchos, but it's great here in Utrecht too :) Special thanks to the Spanish hostess; we immediately felt at home :) 2025 addition: We went back last week, so 5 years later. It was excellent again. No longer a Spanish hostess, but a new owner (?) who's also doing a great job. Friendly service, though sometimes they can't speak Dutch. The lady who couldn't fully speak Dutch yet did her very best, and that's the most important thing. It doesn't all have to be perfect, as long as you have a proactive and positive attitude :) The food was delicious again. As other reviews indicate, the bife de limo is a real gem. The acoustics are indeed loud, you have to like (or be able to tolerate) that. I think that's part of the Gauchos Utrecht experience. I give this fine restaurant, just like 5 years ago, 5 well-deserved stars.

Beautiful accommodations in a wharf cellar on the Utrecht canal. Friendly staff and the food is good. You do need to be patient, though, as preparing food takes a bit longer than usual. It's not a great place for a good conversation, as the rounded ceilings in the wharf cellar don't lend themselves to that.

The food was delicious! The steak was wonderfully tender, and the staff was very friendly. The only downside was that the plates weren't preheated. The price-quality ratio is excellent.

The food here is always good. It can be difficult to reach due to a staircase from the old canal, but the quality is always excellent. If a piece of meat isn't to your liking, they're professionally prepared! They also have delicious starters, always excellent carpaccio, and delicious empanadas. The blue cheese and beef are highly recommended! The chorizo sausages are also sublime. For our main course, we always order the bife de lomo; it's a real gem. The atmosphere is perfect, though the tables can get a bit cramped. It can get noisy on weekends when it's busy, which can be annoying. To avoid that, it's best to come later!

I had a variety of three different Steaks. One was pretty good, one was okay and the Rumpsteak was really a big let down. Chimmichurry was too sour. Baked Potato was too small and the Sour Creme was boring. The frenchfries were pretty good though. Ribs were good but had thr membrane. The sausages were too spicy. Sitting at the water is a plus, but some seatings were unstable because of uneven ground. It‘s a mixed bag. Overall we would not repeat it!

Nice location by the canal, and the meat was good, it's true. But unfortunately, that's the only positive point. The service is deplorable: visibly untrained staff, mistakes in orders, and we were seated at a table that hadn't even been cleared after the previous customers... And to top it all off, two alcoholic drinks were added to the bill even though we hadn't ordered them. A disappointing experience, especially considering the prices. We won't be back.

Good quality meat, taste was fine, execution not so much. None of the steaks were prepared as requested, mostly overcooked, sizes of the steaks made you question if they measure at all, none of them made sense in comparison with the orders and the salmon was a very small and dry piece.

Restaurant is situated in a beautiful location on the canals of Utrecht. Service really tries hard, but the kitchen is very disappointing. The steaks are cooked well, but lack spices and the sauces, side dishes and starters are mediocre to downright bad.

Today we had made a reservation to come and eat with you. Unfortunately, it did not go at all as expected. Our order did not arrive at the same time; several things were even forgotten. My husband received his dish (lomo beef), but I received nothing. Yet the plate was simply put on the table, as if I had to watch my husband eat. We found this really unacceptable and disrespectful. In the end, we decided to pack our things and leave. The way the manager today dealt with this, we found downright antisocial.

Ate here with the group of friends. We were a group of 9 people. Neatly reserved in advance, received a menu for the choice. We had a starter, main course and a dessert. The starter was fine, carpaccio or empanadas. Nicely seasoned with a large pepper mill at the table. The main course was a good tender steak that was cooked properly. The chimichurri was a bit less, not what I expected. The fries had just kissed the fat with a bit of luck because they were very limp and not cooked. Desserts were fine, nice and sweet.

Tastiest tartare we've ever had!

Most of the staff speaks English. It is located in the shipyard basement, so it is a nice location, but that means that the spaces around the tables are very cramped and when it is full it is noisy. Hanging up soundproofing things would be very useful, then a conversation with your table mates is easier and takes less energy. My spareribs were very dry and had been on the barbecue for a very long time. We had to wait a very long time for them, also until the starter arrived. We were there at 19:00 and the food did not arrive until around 21:00. They really liked the spareribs and cheese rolls that my table mates had. The sink in the men's toilet was clogged and full of water.

Reserved at 6:15 PM for three people. We sat outside but it took 15 minutes before we could order a drink. We immediately asked for the menu. At 6:35 PM we ordered one portion of queso bread as an appetizer, along with the main courses and drinks. The queso sandwich was served, but there was no knife to spread the herb butter. The server told us to use the knife for the main course. I thought: what kind of amateurish place is this? Since then, no one has come to us to check if everything was as expected. At 7:45 PM we asked for the manager's attention because we wanted wine advice. He said he would come shortly, but after half an hour he still wasn't there. Then I decided to leave, because this was really not okay. I went inside and told the manager that I was very disappointed. His response? “Yes, it's busy, so I can't do anything about it.” It was my daughter's birthday, and our evening was ruined. Thank you! Pamela Perez

They have a nice place in front of the canal and they have the best pan de queso I’ve ever eaten in Europe!! So I recommend it a lot. The service is very nice and friendly. Maybe you need to reserve beforehand if you want a nice table.

meat, more than excellent, a pity that you can only speak English, but that is always the case in the big cities. Only 1 big negative, they ask both, fries? , and it costs you 12.00 eu for 2 containers that are so little, a real shame, especially because they don't say what it costs.

I was very impressed with my steak. The cook was perfect, seasoned well, and the Chimichurri was good. The picture does not do the steak tartare justice but it came with all of the mix-ins and I am glad I ordered. The restaurant was alive but not overly crowded. Within 5 minutes they had a table ready for 6 people. Thank you for the nice dinner.

Some of the best steak i have ever had!

If I'm in a city where there is Gauchos, we eat at Gauchos. Now the trio of steaks beckoned me and so it ended up on the table. Three different, beautiful pieces of meat, together good for almost 450 grams. Slightly decadent, but hey, if you're only in a Gauchos city every now and then, you can go wild. I like it rare and so was the meat. Beautiful, soft and very tasty. Add some good (red) wine and your evening won't go wrong. So enjoy.

Ordered one medium steak and one medium entrecote. The steak was very raw and the entrecote more medium rare. Was also very bland. Not well seasoned. Didn’t get the sides we ordered had to ask for them. For a steak restaurant they don’t even have sharp knives. So you are cutting your meat with some butter knife.
