Nice place, good food. Too bad they're closing.

After cycling through the rain, I sat on the terrace at 3:55 PM and really craved a sandwich or grilled cheese from the lunch menu... Dinner wasn't even close. The menu says lunch until 4:00 PM, but it's not. I can only order dinner. Unwelcoming. Then I don't. Coffee and off I go again.

Enjoyed a drink and a snack on the terrace. Quiet location on the square. The fries weren't that great, but a delicious cold Radler was.

Portions far too small for that price. Received the wrong dessert. My first reaction was a denial. No compensation. The eight-euro dame blanche consisted of three small scoops, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, and a dollop of whipped cream. Gone in three bites. I strongly feel like they're struggling on their last legs. I feel ripped off.

We sat here on the terrace during a bike ride and the staff was friendly. Only the cheesecake cost €5.25. Ordered anyway, but it was really a mini piece and looked and tasted like it came straight from the supermarket. A bit of a shame.

The food was certainly tasty but I felt ripped off! We were a group of 6 people and some ordered a carpaccio in advance followed by a main course from the menu. Because my choice was also a menu, I ordered the menu. A carpaccio, schnitzel with a scoop of ice cream afterwards. The starter was served for everyone, including the carpaccio. My carpaccio was not even half the size of the other carpaccio. I spoke to the staff about it and that was just the way it was because I had ordered from the menu. It wasn't much different with the schnitzel. For dessert the "Dubbiootje". That would be a scoop of ice cream with chocolate and whipped cream. When it was served I couldn't contain my laughter. the "Bol" was so small that it was gone in one go with a normal bite. I suggest that the Grand Cafe adjusts its menu and honestly announces that it is a carpaccio, it is a schnitzel and the aforementioned "ball of ice cream" is more of a very small scoop of ice cream. Or one should talk about a children's menu. In short, for that money I felt pretty cheated.

De plek is leuk, aardig pleintje, precies wat we zochten. De bediening was onvoldoende. Geen oog voor de gasten. Als je wat wilde moest je zelf actie ondernemen. Het eten was goed, de prijzen redelijk. We zaten op het terras en moesten binnen afrekenen. De tafels waren ongenummerd en ongecodeerd. Uiteindelijk hebben we met de eigenaar bijna alle bestellingen van het hele terras doorgenomen om ons tafeltje in het systeem te vinden. Jammer dat de bediening zo onmachtig was.

The tabbouleh meal salad did not come with bread, humus, olives, raisins and mint. As shown on the online map. It was a bunch of lettuce with some couscous and some finely chopped vegetables and too much nasty sweet dressing that probably comes ready-made from a bottle. After my complaint, I was able to exchange this salad with the savory chicken salad. It had the same head of lettuce with a little more dressing due to the marinated chicken and cashew nuts, but with too much of exactly the same ready-made dirty dressing. Definitely not recommended. The potatoes with cheap chip sauce that have to be bought as a supplement for €4.50 with a main course are very greasy. This brings the monastery burger to 21 euros, the pork tenderloin rouleau to 24 euros. This main course hardly has the mentioned seasonal vegetables but is meat with a sauce. Can of tap water with 1 ice cube and half a slice of lemon costs 3.50. All a bit meager and not quite there. Nice terrace

What a nice spot they have here. Nice terrace and cozy inside. Food is good, staff is friendly. You are not rushed to hurry... All in all, especially for a repeat...

Ate here with 8 people. The soup did not include bread, herb butter is also tasty. The main course did not come with fries, so 8 times 4 euros extra for the fries and these are large portions so that 20 euros worth of fries were thrown away. Staff must indicate this.....not recommended....

Beautiful location in an old monastery. In the conservatory you have a beautiful view of the church tower of Alphen (beautifully lit in the evening). Food and service top!

We hadn’t booked a table but had a lovely family meal here on a Friday night. The food was good. There was a children’s menu and also pasta on the starters menu for my 5 year old who is pasta mad. They also had colouring for the children. There weren’t many people in the restaurant but the service and speed were fine.

Unfortunately, this was not fulfilled when we returned in the afternoon for a snack and a drink. The drinks were served quickly, after which we had to wait almost an hour for a snack... When it finally arrived (after asking the waitress one more time) the drinks were of course already gone! In addition, it was assumed that we would eat with our fingers. That works, but a few skewers for the olives and a napkin would have been useful... Too bad.

Zaterdag, 9-9-23 Met vier personen wilden wij lunchen op het terras. Het was overigens een rommelige zandbak waar wij plaats konden nemen. Twee personen van onze tafel bestelden naanbrood met zalm. Het brood werd koud en zompig geserveerd. We vroegen de bediening om een oplossing, maar er werd geen alternatief geboden en gaven een gerecht retour. De ander heeft het maar opgegeten, maar was zeker niet smakelijk! Omdat er niets op de kaart staat als enig alternatief was er voor een van ons niets te eten. Een rommelig zaak met slechte bediening en een eigenaar die alleen voor het geld gaat, want we tikten voor 3 zeer matige lunches ruim € 50,00 af. Dus voor ons NOOIT MEER!

We were going to have a high tea with family and I had indicated that I did not want meat, fish, eggs or dairy. "Then you should take something from the menu." Can happen, so while everyone got small snacks in a number of courses, I was allowed to choose in which round I got my avocado burger, which tasted reasonable. When it was time for dessert, the lady in charge of the service saw that there were tasty cakes for the group and then she said: "And we don't have anything for vegans." She smiled very kindly, but I thought it was a shame that we had discussed it weeks in advance and had indicated dietary requirements... I would have been very satisfied with a bowl of fruit, but I found this a disappointment.

Ate here last Saturday with 4 people. It is a nice place, but the food was mediocre and unimaginative and also very expensive, you have to pay extra for everything. I fed this back nicely, but the owner is not open to feedback and thinks they are all doing fine. Pity. There is also something wrong with the exhaust because when you come home everything smells like cooking air...not worth repeating for me.

Had lunch here for the first time on the occasion of my mother's birthday. The menu looked good, but to be honest, some of the dishes were disappointing. The Kloosterburger was served without any small form of salad next to it (even if it was just that little bit of Russian salad that was served with other dishes), and the burger itself didn't really seem very special. The tuna sandwich consisted of 2 slices of bread, at least 3 cm thick, one without toppings, the other with a small amount of tuna salad that could not cover a sandwich, and some greenery, cost €14.95. I mentioned this to the friendly waitress who would report it back, but we heard nothing more about it. The goat cheese salad was really good! Music was loud, but nothing could be done about that. I myself had a twelve hour meal, but the egg was not completely fried and could not cover the large slice of bread. Too bad, I expected more from this beautiful location.

Had a drink on the terrace with bitterballen and fried scampies with red sauce. All together tasty.

With a group of more than twenty people, we had a delicious lunch last Sunday and a delicious and enjoyable dinner later in the day after a long bike ride. The food was tasty, well prepared and the service by Karin was pleasant and personal. Our guests also tell us afterwards that they had a very nice day.

The food itself was good except that the ice cream cake always seemed to be empty, now they supposedly had problems with a freezer, the service was very poor. This was clearly not a trained catering staff. The waitress was very friendly, she cleared the glasses and bottles without asking. the drinks were placed on the corner of the table and the guests had to divide it up, even when clearing away we had to pass on all the crockery and cutlery ourselves, no tasty food was requested or a simple question such as, would you like anything else? something? was not asked. A quietly situated terrace, for a break with coffee and cake, or beer, drinks and wine.

After making the reservation, which specifically stated that we would like to sit inside... a nice spot was set up outside. Nothing was covered inside, because the weather was nice. With four adults and four children we were allowed to spend almost €300. If price and quality had been matched, it would have been worth it. This is way too expensive for what you get. Example: 6 slices of bread (regular bread) with three tubs of sauce for only 9 euros… and a delicious piece of meat, with everything that came with it charged extra: the sauce, potatoes, fries, salad. Again, no problem... but 4 euros for 10 potato wedges is pricey. We understand that the farmers also need to be sponsored, but this is very intense. A small bowl of sauce (mayo) for 1.50... that's a whole jar of mayo. I also had a caprese, which did not go down well because of the dressing. After indicating this (didn't want dressing) they said it was not their fault, but ours. It had never been reported before. In addition, a service that does not speak the language, brings the wrong products, dirty and not enough glasses, does not provide a pleasant experience. In addition, the manager who sees/hears everything outside and is drinking/laughing and smoking loudly with a number of customers is not an advertisement for the company. Perhaps customers who will come back... All in all, too skewed a ratio based on price/quality.

The welcome was friendly. A tap water discussion followed. You pay for that, they do that too. Ordered 4 full menus with the necessary wine. Minimum capacity of glass of white wine. 1 main course of Victoria perch was a quarter glassy (undercooked). When asked, it turned out that the 2 chefs did not agree with this 🤨, it was just snotty. 1 glass of red wine offered as compensation (nicely). When picking up 1 starter the dirty knife fell on a black dress. Then the waitress came with a dirty cleaning cloth (dishcloth) with warm water and wanted to give it a good rub. Let's just say that our first experience will also be our last. Really below par. In short, don't eat here. I am still very mild with my comment about this. And the service, well, well. Nota Bene, the owner was smoking next to us and was able to see and hear everything. Where are your manners, then intervene. Protect your staff from such mistakes.

A very nice place in the center of Alphen. The lunch menu was good. We have been here twice and both times the terrace was well filled. Nice stopover on the Bels Lijntje cycle route.

Our last day of holiday, walking from the campsite for a drink on the nice (half full!) terrace. A casual "hello" and nothing else for fifteen minutes. Completely ignored. Well, we left. A letdown!!

What a beautiful, atmospheric place with visible elements of the former monastery. With a chef who has earned his stripes in star restaurants, yet very affordable and truly delicious food. Small eaters are also taken into account here. Many dishes are available in both small and normal portions. Price/quality absolutely top. And the homemade progress ice cream cake is a real treat. I have heard that people make a detour especially for that. Friendly, hospitable and fast service. Service at its best! Definitely go back. My compliments. 👌
