At Aap, you truly feel like a guest, but with a homey atmosphere. Just like dining with good friends. The friendly service is simply top-notch and the food is delicious. The price-quality ratio is excellent. Wide selection of plant-based dishes.

We had a delicious South African meal at this cozy local restaurant. In addition, the staff is fantastic.

Wow! Rarely have I had such a nice surprise! We were staying at campsite De Flaasbloem, and because it was so hot that day, we decided to go out for dinner—nice and cool. We hadn't expected this! Super friendly staff, a chef who walks by the table before he starts cooking, and super tasty food with plenty of vegetarian options! And delicious African beers. And the kids loved the playroom too. They got a sticker with their name on it and were called every time food arrived. Great! If we are in the area again, we will definitely come back!

Friendly staff, food simple but tasty. I found the play area busy and intense. I didn't know this, otherwise I would have asked for a quieter table elsewhere. I don't want to sit in the middle of the screaming. Playing at a normal volume is also possible.

We didn't want pancakes for a change and, following a tip, ended up at this (to us unknown) restaurant. What a surprise: good food, a cozy atmosphere, and nice childcare in the play corner for our granddaughter. Everyone was surprised by the wide selection on the menu. Everyone can find something tasty there. Friendly staff. We will definitely be back!!

I was here a while ago, thought I had already written a review, but I just wanted to get this off my chest. By far, this was the worst dining experience I have ever had. The food seemed microwaved, caked to the plate, and not tasty at all, yet it was sold for top dollar. The service was otherwise okay, but it is absolutely not recommended, and I really don't understand why it has such a high rating. Do not recommend it!!!

Nice spot. Tasty South African food with a Dutch touch. The interior and the music create a beautiful South African atmosphere that makes you feel at home. The staff and the chef are also very sweet.

Restaurant Aap was such a pleasant surprise. It has a completely African atmosphere with masks, animal sounds, and a cool tree-themed décor. The food was delicious, the service excellent, and everyone was very friendly. It's also ideal for dining with children thanks to the small climbing gym and the playroom with a TV. How wonderful to have stumbled upon it!

I expected the food to be a bit more South African, especially on Christmas Day, but even that was delicious and not too complicated or fancy. The staff deserves my highest praise because wow! On a regular Saturday evening, we had a delicious meal here with two people in a cozy atmosphere. And what a relief that there is no background music, allowing you to have a normal conversation without being driven crazy by the noise. The lighting is also fine; at least here you can see what is on your plate. The service is prompt and attentive. The waiting time for the dishes is just right. The chef comes to the table for a personal chat, giving you some background information about this restaurant. The dishes meet expectations and are generously portioned.

Delicious authentic South African food, complemented by international dishes. Everything prepared with passion. A real family-run restaurant. In the big city, this would be packed every day. Also various vegetarian dishes, cooked exceptionally well. Unfortunately, it is too far from home to return regularly (they are only open on weekends). Be sure to ask for the authentic South African dishes (you can eat the rest elsewhere, but it is also made with love). A gem in Brabant!

We had a lovely evening and the food was decent. The play area was great for the kids! They had a blast and were sent to their table by the teacher when their food arrived. Unfortunately, we didn't like all the food, and neither did our children. We didn't quite grasp the concept of South African and vegan. It didn't seem to fit the culture. It was quite different from a truly authentic African restaurant we'd been to before. The service was really good, though, and the staff were very friendly.

A wonderful experience! The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance. There are plenty of staff, who also frequently check on everyone. The chef passionately explains his dishes. We had a delicious meal, and the children enjoyed playing and crafting between courses. The children's menu also included more than the standard fries with nuggets and fries with a frikandel. That's also listed on the menu, but thankfully, the selection is much wider. We highly recommend it!

We had a wonderful meal here with the grandchildren last night. My grandson wanted to eat "Aap," so he devoured his schnitzel with great gusto. He had "Aap." And, following the chef's recommendation, we also had a delicious, unusual piece of meat. With a variety of vegetables and ice cream for dessert, it was a fantastic evening. The grandchildren (3-5) also had a wonderful time making crafts under supervision.

Last Sunday we had a great meal at AAP. A special menu with many South African influences. For the gluten-free people, there is a separate menu to choose from. There is a large parking lot. For the children there is a nice play corner.

What a nice restaurant with a thick South African sauce over it!! You can see that these people do what they like, good food for an attractive price and exceptionally good service. Both the owner and the young ladies who walk around, you don't see that often anymore. I was there with a family outing, so a large group with adults and children. They clearly have experience with that and child and adult were well served. You want to drive a bit for this!

Am here for the second time now. It's because of my grandchildren, they wanted to go there. Because there is a play area. Last time I had a negative review. But they have changed the menu. I'll just call it fake meat, taken off. They still have some vegetarian options. And for the rest, whole meat. What you expect from a South African restaurant.

It was pleasantly busy. The chef is friendly and does his very best to accommodate dietary requirements. Make adjustments where necessary, despite the crowds. The food was tasty! Vegan beet carpaccio with vegetable foie gras is highly recommended! We had to wait a very long time for our food. We arrived at 5:00 PM and left at 7:30 PM, and were unable to have dessert at that time (due to other commitments). Service was friendly but, unlike the chef, you did not get the feeling that the customer was king. Nice play area for smaller children.

Starter and main course were great! Nice and hearty tamaten soup was tasty. Main course chicken chakalaka was delicious, perfectly cooked and delicious sauce. Also delicious fries and vegetables and a delicious African salad. Dessert (dame blanche) was mediocre with weak tasteless whipped cream. Nice children's playground where you won't be bothered and the little ones can do their thing. Beautiful African themed decoration and nice staff who chat with you a lot.

This is highly recommended to visit! Especially with small children, if you want something clear, not too busy and something other than a pancake house ;). The children can play under supervision. They are called as soon as the food is ready. The staff are very social and fun to watch how they interact with the children. The food is special (at least we don't regularly eat South African food), but it was really tasty. We will come back here more often!

Nice, cozy South African restaurant with slightly different dishes, but also tender tournedos and chicken. However, zebra, crocodile and ostrich are no longer on the menu due to the fact that they are no longer available. Excellent service including a chat with the chef.

Very tasty meal at Aap restaurant! The menu is very varied with meat, fish and vegetarian. Something for everyone. The restaurant is attractively decorated and there is a play area for children. The meat was wonderfully tender and the vegetarian dish was also very tasty. The dishes were served with fries, vegetables and African side dishes. The staff is friendly and nice that the chef came by. We had a great time and will definitely come back!

Took the Valentine's menu. Everything was excellent. The service was also very good and attentive. The restaurant is very nicely decorated with all kinds of attributes from South Africa. Highly recommended.

How can I put it, the food was tasty, fresh and plentiful and something for everyone. The service was also very friendly, but it all happened a little too quickly. As for the interior, it was almost between the Beekse Bergen and a souvenir shop in Cape Town, no bad intentions but... My opinion about the concept is that someone who has been to South Africa a few times does not get the same feeling and Anyone who goes on holiday there will have a completely different experience there. But the food was TOP, a varied menu for meat, fish or vegetarian 👍

Top restaurant, Good tasty and special food! Nice place for the kids to play!

Ate here at Christmas with our children. Price/quality very mediocre. Daughter chose spaghetti with meatballs and red sauce (according to the menu) and got exactly one tiny meatball. When we asked if that was true, the answer was cold: yes. We ate venison (which came at a significant additional cost), which was well cooked, but there was no decoration on the plate, just your hunk of meat on it, and you were done. And that at Christmas… very disappointing. The starters and desserts were also very average, ready-made idea without any refinement. It was definitely not worth the €200 we had to pay. Pity!

A very cozy restaurant. With a lot of attention for people with a diet or wishes.

Just passed by while on a short motorbike trip, and was surprised to find such a restaurant in Brabant, notably in the countryside. The service was warm and friendly. The food was good, and I guess authentic (never been in South Africa), though the culinary effect could have been a bit better. Recommended for family dinners, not a for a romantic "just the two of us".

After living in South Africa for 30 years I was really looking forward to getting a taste of 'home', unfortunately I was very disappointed. I ordered the exotic lamb (vegetable) what I got was slightly different, everything fried/greasy - even the cauliflower. I really missed something healthy on my plate. The lamb was okay, the mieliepap and raw vegetables were tasty, I couldn't eat the rest. Unfortunately Dom Pedro and Meltart were not 'the one and only' either. I won't be back.

Verrassend om een Zuid Afrikaans restaurant aan te treffen in Alphen. De bediening was vriendelijk en de aankleding met talloze Afrikaanse details aardig maar helaas was de kwaliteit van het eten zeer matig. Weinig kruiden en veel te zoet. Afrikanen maken echt niet alles zoet beste serveerster, dan doe je ze enorm tekort. Ga er eens heen zou ik zeggen.

Als je in Alphen op vakantie gaat verwacht je daar geen Zuid-Afrikaans restaurant. We werden aller vriendelijk bediend in een mooie embiance. Ik heb een 3 gangen menu genomen. Keniaanse hoofdjes, Biboti en Bounty ijs na. Mijn vrouw had Smoorvis. Al bij al lekker en met zeer veel side dishes.

Familiedag afgesloten bij aap. Wat hadden we weer heerlijk gegeten. Stuk voor stuk. De kinderen hebben heerlijk gespeeld en geknutseld. En het personeel was weer erg vriendelijk. Dat de eigenaar/chef kok langskomt aan de tafels maakt het helemaal af. Mijn ouders waren er nog nooit geweest en hadden hun ogen uitgekeken. Aanrader!

Very good service. Food was good but pricey compared to quality. We went for the South African element of this restaurant, which was reflected in the decoration and some of the dishes. We thought it was a shame that the focus on South Africa is shared with the focus on vegan and children (including a play corner).

First of all, it's just really tasty food with good flavors! And I also think it is a very good idea to first take your child(ren)'s order, so that they can immediately go to the children's corner with a name sticker (mine couldn't wait). When the food is on the table, they will pick up your child and you can enjoy a meal together. ;)

We saw this restaurant by chance on a bike tour. Since neither of us knew South African cuisine, we decided to visit this restaurant. The reception was very friendly and spoke German. The waitress gave us great advice. The chef himself also came to the table and told us something about the dishes. As a starter I had a salad with mealworms, which was very tasty. The main course was vegan lamb and I have to say hats off to that. That tasted really good. Clear recommendation for all vegans. For dessert I had a milk cake, which was also really good. A reunion is guaranteed here. 🙂

Original restaurant where you can reminisce about previous holiday experiences in South Africa. Good food, nice wine, nice service. Not expensive. The only downside is the (former) owner who tries to impose his preference for vegan dishes in 3 visits to the table ("look at the left page") And later again: "If you come back in two years, the entire menu will be vegan!"... Then it is no longer a South African restaurant and you will not see me again. Shame.....
