Grandcafé Rijn in Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a nice surprise! I actually only came in for a necessary bathroom break 😄 and decided to grab a cappuccino and a sausage roll right away. Although this is clearly not a place geared towards takeout, they didn't make a fuss about it at all. I received my cappuccino neatly in a cup, complete with sugar and a cookie. Because they didn't have stirrers for on the go, they simply went the extra mile and gave me a straw. My sausage roll was freshly baked for me, and even the takeout bag included two slices of cucumber. Such a small detail, but it says something about the care with which they work here. The waitresses were friendly, helpful, and clearly well-coordinated. Moreover, everything looked neat and well-maintained. One minor point of attention: in the open kitchen, it looked like someone was being trained who was wearing multiple rings, bracelets, and necklaces, and had painted nails. Because they work with fresh food there, I personally found that a bit less appropriate and something to keep an eye on regarding hygiene. But otherwise: very pleasant service, a tasty cappuccino, and a delicious fresh and warm sausage roll. Definitely a nice discovery on the Rijneke Boulevard!

Upon arrival on Sunday afternoon, we had to wait 30 minutes before our order was taken, after having to ask for it ourselves. The waitress said she would then pass it on to a colleague, who then went to help others who had only been there for 5 minutes. There was absolutely no system to it. There were also very young girls working in the service (approx. 14 years old); they were not trained either and spoke very rudely and casually to customers (including older customers). This wasn't a problem for me, as I am young myself, but I think older generations would find this problematic. The food then took even longer than half an hour to arrive. Other customers even cancelled their orders and left the restaurant. Once the food finally arrived, it was fine. There was no toilet paper in the restroom. Considering the time invested and the price, it was certainly a bad experience. The view was nice, though.

I am very disappointed with my visit. I initially ordered a roast beef sandwich, but the bun was not properly baked and the roast beef looked anything but fresh. Although I was told that it had just been taken out of the packaging, that naturally says little about how long the opened package had been sitting in the fridge. The roast beef had a greyish color, was tasteless, and did not give a fresh impression. Fortunately, I was allowed to choose another sandwich. I opted for the safe option: a cheese panini. Unfortunately, this was also a letdown. The panini seemed to have been under the grill for far too short a time, meaning the bread was not properly warm and crispy. There was only a pathetic slice of melted cheese on it, and next to it lay two dry pieces of cucumber. For €8.50, you really expect more quality. After a few bites, I left it, because it simply wasn't tasty. It's a shame, because the staff were very friendly and tried politely to resolve the situation. Unfortunately, good service cannot make up for the disappointing quality of the food in this case.

We were here next week. The waitress came to our table immediately. The service was excellent and there was nothing to complain about. The drinks also arrived quickly, and there was a cheerful atmosphere in the restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Had delicious sandwiches, they were very tasty! It was very fast and the staff friendly.

We ate here last Saturday. There were three girls working who really didn't seem to enjoy it at all. Hardly any service was provided, and one of them was making coffee with her phone in her hand. 🤣 Additionally, an egg could only be served with either cheese or ham, but not both, because “they couldn't ring that up.” I have never heard anything so strange. I worked in the hospitality industry myself for years, but this really made no sense. The most important thing in the hospitality industry is your staff, and unfortunately, that was nowhere to be found here. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back here.

You can eat perfectly fine gluten-free here. They know a thing or two about it, and if not, they will check with you. That way, they can be sure everything is going well. Very nice! Their salad is also very tasty!! The service could sometimes be a bit better.

Stopped during a bike route and had apple pie and lemon meringue pie with a coffee and cappuccino. Delicious! Friendly staff.

‘You can order at the table,’ but the ladies prefer not to take orders and remain hidden. If you simply pack up your things after a while to go eat elsewhere, they don’t even look up. Only four tables were occupied….

I expected better. The French onion soup was simple and bland. I didn't like the salmon sandwich; the salmon wasn't fresh enough. The service was excellent, though.

The sound is truly deafening. You can barely hear each other... The acoustics are terrible.

The food was delicious and arrived quickly, but the club sandwich was really dry. There was some sauce on it, but it was a bit of a search. It detracted from the flavor. The carpaccio sandwich was delicious. @Van Rijn: the price was indeed a mistake! The service was friendly, the atmosphere was good, and the decor (of course) was nice. The restrooms were fine.

The atmosphere is cozy and the staff very friendly. We both had croquettes with fries. They were both burnt and very greasy.

Cozy space with a nice view from the window. Pleasant and friendly service. Excellent coffee and pastries ;-) But... (information from my wife) do something about the ladies' restroom. The hand dryer has been loose for weeks and now it doesn't work either. The toilet seat is also crooked.

Nicely decorated neat grand café with a beautiful view from the window seats. Spacious. Friendly service. Order was taken and brought quickly, but then no one came to our table in between. Delicious pastries. Partly home-made and partly from a quality bakery. Varied lunch menu.

I asked the hostess if they could cut my husband's sandwich into pieces in the kitchen. My husband is visually impaired due to Alzheimer's disease. I have arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in my hands. The answer was no, we don't do that. There was one customer in the restaurant, and three women were on their phones in the kitchen. I think it's disgraceful. I'm not used to being treated like that in a restaurant.

Cozy, delicious food. Nice decor. Quiet on a Thursday evening. Breakfast is also delicious!

A cozy place to grab a bite to eat or a drink. Good atmosphere. Good service. DAMAGE: When one of the women put a plate of food on the counter, some of it fell off. The woman quickly glanced around, then put the food back on the plate and acted like she hadn't seen anything. She walked back and told a colleague, laughing. Not exactly a hygienic experience.

For €5, it was the smallest piece of apple pie I've ever been served. The staff seemed uncomfortable with it, but told them the boss wouldn't let them cut the pieces any larger. Prices went up, and the product was smaller. It's a shame this is how it goes.

We've had lunch here several times, including today (August 21, 2024). The service wasn't exactly fast. People who came after us were helped almost immediately. I ended up calling the staff myself to order. The food took quite a while. My wife's carpaccio sandwich was delicious, but the grilled chicken club sandwich was disappointing. The chicken (thigh fillet) was boiled rather than grilled. The bread crust was hard and almost impossible to cut. This was our last visit for a while.

The burger is really finger licking good. You can taste that it is freshly made and comes from the BBQ. Definitely worth coming back for

Had a super tasty Kimchi sandwich with pork belly (from the Kamado). Nice place with friendly service. Recommended!

Denk je even een lunch te genieten alvorens te gaan winkelen. Niet normaal hoe langzaam de bediening/keuken is. De wachttijden zijn onacceptabel.

It's been a while since we had lunch here, so we tried it again today. The service was exceptionally friendly. We opted for two hot sausage rolls and two cups of tea, because the prices on the menu had risen so alarmingly that we did not have 12.50 euros left for a croquette sandwich (two croquettes). The friendly service was fine, but the sausage rolls were certainly far below par. Limp, lukewarm and stale. Worth less than 1.25 euros instead of 3.50 euros. So we didn't order anything else and we couldn't give a positive answer to the question: Was everything to your liking. It made us sick. No, we won't be going here anymore.

Food was good. I found the service a bit less; A number of tables were empty and they were all full of dishes from the previous guests. I thought the prices were a bit too high for a lunch menu.

Pastries were not really fresh.

Gewoon eerlijke porties en super vriendelijke bediening.

Even lekker zitten als je meubels hebt gekeken kan hier met een mooi uitzicht over het Groene Hart. De sfeer is goed, de bediening snel en aardig. Alleen de glutenvrije cake is vreselijk, gortdroog en hard, alsof mijn plakje een week onafgedekt op een bordje had gelegen. Ik bak regelmatig een cake met glutenvrij meel en die is dan, net als iedere andere cake, lekker zacht en smeuïg. Heel jammer, ik had me erop verheugd. Het bananenbrood met verse banaan en siroop van mijn gezelschap was wel lekker.

Een paar maanden hier geweest en was supergoed. Vandaag weer geweest saté was super lekker, broodje geitenkaas was een schim vergeleken met de vorige keer. Maar wat mij het meest irriteerde was de bediening, na een kwartier te hebben gewacht heb ik maar eens gevraagd of ik kon bestellen! Het meisje reageerde of dat de normaalste zaak van de wereld was! Beetje jammer.

Het was bij de vorige eigenaar een toptent met zeer goede en lekker broodjes en gebak van de echte bakker. Nu is het een stuk minder. Een tosti caprese met echt minimaal beleg, geen mozarella zichtbaar en 1,5 tomatenschijfje. Het was een klein boterhammetje met 2 plakjes komkommer ernaast voor 7,- Verder was er weinig vegetarisch. De saté, (alles kipdijfilet als er kip staat) was lekker maar niet bijzonder. De Latte Machiato werd lauw geserveerd en moest gelijk opgedronken anders nog kouder. En vervolgesn werd er niet gevraagd of alles naar wens was, of iets dergelijks. Er kwam niemand meer. Dit was dus de laatste keer dat we hier kwamen lunchen, jammer.

Dit is het enige café/restaurant op meubelboulevard in Zoeterwoude. Het is op de 3e etage in een woonwinkel. De bediening was vriendelijk. Gekozen voor een cappuccino en een thee. Daarbij 1x bananencake met ahornsiroop en walnoot en 1x een warm saucijzenbroodje. De bananencake was er redelijk snel en was lekker. Het saucijzenbroodje zou even duren werd gezegd. Uiteindelijk kwam het na 15 minuten wat wel erg lang is, zeker omdat het nog niet erg warm was en de bodem slap. De smaak was best oké en als het goed gebakken was dan had het beter geweest, beetje jammer. Geen zin om nog langer te wachten en daarom maar opgegeten. Jammer dat dit de enige mogelijkheid is op de hele boulevard om iets te eten of te drinken.

Heel gezellig zo'n koffiezaak midden tussen enkele woonwinkels. Gezellig ingericht. Lekkere koffie en taart. Vriendelijke bediening

Heerlijk gegeten! Snelle service en meedenkend personeel. Echt een aanrader!

Nw eigenaar = nw meubilair en attent personeel. Komen nu geregeld vragen of alles naar wens is of dat we nog iets willen drinken. Eten erg lekker. Sate gaat in bbq, echt verrukkelijk. Dikke pluim!

Wat een mooie aanwinst voor Zoeterwoude en omstreken. Gevestigd in een meubelzaak, maar ook als je niet wilt winkelen dan is dit een heerlijke plek. We hebben genoten van onze lunch. Kwalitatief hoogstaande producten en vers. Het vlees komt van de barbecue en dat proef je! De kaart is uitgebreid en voor ieder wat wils. Tot de volgende keer.

Ok eten, maar waardeloze bediening. Vies glas gekregen en geen lepel bij de soep. Onze tafel was ook niet schoongemaakt en we zagen diverse andere niet opgeruimde en vieze tafels. Prijs-kwaliteit verhouding dus zeer onder de maat.

Lekker geluncht met een lekkere uitsmijter en cappuccino. Aardig personeel, snelle keuken en goede kwaliteit. Als je komt winkelen of in de buurt bent en trek hebt is dit een prima plek om te vertoeven. 👌

Heerlijk gelunched in een geweldige atmosfeer! Vooral de steak sandwich en de pulled pork zijn echte aanraders! Die bestellen we volgende keer zeker weer! Het kindermenu is heel volledig en onze dochter genoot van de heerlijke verse pancakes met blauwe bessen!

Heerlijk gegeten! En na een rondje door de meubelzaak teruggegaan voor koffie met vers gebakken appeltaart.

Gesmuld van de lekkere sate van de grill, dat maakt het echt bijzonder!

Erg lekker gegeten in dit nieuwe restaurant. De salade met kippendij van de barbecue was superlekker. De cappuccino daarna was ook erg lekker. Het uitzicht is trouwens ook top!
