Happy Italy Groningen Pizza's, Pasta's en meer in Centrum

We received a lovely and warm welcome, and was able to choose where we wanted to sit. The pizzas and calabrese salad were superb. The crust was just how a pizza should be, thin and crispy. The salad was super-fresh with a lovely coating of dressing and pesto. Could not fault it. Was disappointed that I was so full, that I couldn't manage a slice of tiramisu 😢😂. Will defo be going back soon.

The right restaurant if you feel like vomiting all night long. Let's be honest: the pizza isn't very good. But that's not the problem, it's that they exist including food poisoning! The kitchen work surfaces are cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Is this the same one that is used to vacuum the leaves from the floor of the terrace (footpath)? You don't know. Just go eat pizza somewhere else, it's NOT worth it.

Yesterday I went to Happy Italy in Groningen on the Oosterstraat.

The reviews of this restaurant were not very positive. Still, we wanted to try out whether it was better than indicated. This restaurant itself is considerably better than indicated in various reviews. The service is super nice and competent, the pizza and pasta are delicious and the prices are great. The atmosphere is of course personal, in such a large store there is of course little Italian atmosphere, although Italian music would be an option. All in all, we are positively surprised and Happy Italy is highly recommended if you are staying in Groningen.

Super friendly staff. We arrived on Saturday evening and had not made a reservation, but we still found a nice place for our group where we could eat in peace. We were treated very kindly and the food arrived super quickly. We really enjoyed it.

Excellent food for a nice price. And friendly and fast staff. Pizza margarita and pasta with shrimp and spinach were tasty. I didn't think the desserts were worth 4 stars. The seasonal fruit with the chocolate cake was strawberry jam. And whether the tiramisu is really homemade... the cocoa was generously sprinkled over it.

Pizza without cheese and tomato. So you cannot get rid of dry bread with carpaccio. Perhaps staff could have pointed this out. Not to eat. Waste of our money.

Nice service but I was brought the wrong pizza, I raised it and a new pizza was brought to me. There were two of us and it was a shame that we couldn't eat together. The pizzas are huge and we still had some left over for the next day.

We were there first and first in Groningen. We were there with 4 people. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and given a table by the window. The selection was plentiful but clear. The food was top. My kids ate pizza that was like this yummy. My husband and I ate pasta. The portion was plentiful and the price was good. We'll definitely come back.

Delicious food in a nice atmosphere

Decent Italian restaurant but wouldn’t say authentic. Price was okay but a little bit on the expensive side for what you get in my opinion. Got the sticky chicken pasta and was lowkey mid tbh. Pasta was a bit hard but probably because I got the whole-wheat pasta so avoid if you don’t like hard pasta.

If I could, I would love to give minus ten Stars! The worst of the worst service ever! Line they sat us down and it took half an hour to even order (til a server came)! Amd then it took OVER AN HOUR TO GET OUR FOOD and that just came because we asked if we could cancelbthe order! Cause who waits that long for just some pasta?! Like I literally just wanted to leave at that point but when we wanted to cancel the order they suddenly came with the food.

Pasta was very watery and had almost 0 taste

I've been here both with my family and with people from work. It's fantastic for kids as they have an indoor play area with climbing and ball pit etc. Very busy and tucked away near the toilets so it doesn't disturb everyone eating. The pizza is very big and really good. They also have pasta and meatballs (including vegetarian). Good choice of beers, including a draught beer. The restaurant is really big, but I recommend booking at the weekend to ensure you get a table.

We ate here today and the food was tasteless, we also had to wait a very long time for our pizzas. Don't eat here, it's a waste of money, a frozen pizza tastes even better!

Enorm slecht, pizzas zitten geen smaak aan en later last van buikpijn. Personeel spreekt alleen maar Engels en bestelling kwam pas na 40 minuten. Ga niet eten hier! Weggegooid geld.

Had delicious pasta here before the concert

Good prices, good food, a friendly and helpful stuff. There was only one problem - it was really cold inside, had to put on my coat.

The quality and size of the pizzas are very good for the price.

De bediening is vriendelijk maar uitvoering van de bestelling en kwaliteit van het eten is ver onder waar het zou moeten zijn. Pizza vol met bbq saus en slappe bodem. Minimaal belegd. Zeker geen tweede keer.

While eating our pizzas, my friend and I saw a mouse walking around. My pizza already wasn't tasty, but this made it disgusting. Later in the evening, while walking past a closed Happy Italy, we checked if we could see any mice walking around. We saw 2. Don't go here. The food is overpriced, and there are mice.

I saw quite a bit of criticism in the reviews on the internet, about long waits for service and such. We have a completely different experience! Super fast and attentive service, and delicious food. Both the pastas and pizzas tasted great. The atmosphere was good, cozy, even on a Tuesday. No downside at all? Oh well, I would have liked to see the beer menu a bit more extensive, but that shouldn't spoil the fun.

Delicious food, pleasant atmosphere! The first drink only arrived at the table at the end of the starter. As a result, I consumed 1 drink in 1 hour.

We ordered two pizzas, both tasted horrible. But the worst part was THE MANAGER and his attitude. Honestly, fire him. I rarely experience such bad service from the person in charge. Eating here was obviously a mistake

Went here with some friends, ordered two pizzas and they both tasted horrible. We said so to the waiter, he told us he was sorry and that he would get the manager. And what an awful experience that was. He came up to the table and asked what was up?? When i answered and said the pizzas were not great he said that that was impossible, that the pizzas looked great and also tasted amazing. He immediately became defensive, didn’t even ask what exactly was wrong with the pizzas, just flat out said that it was impossible, that these are their pizzas and that he has tasted them many times so no problems. What an awful man that makes awful pizzas in an awful establishment.

DONT go here. There are more bad reviews apparently and they still don’t do anything about the food quality?? The food tastes horrible in all honesty; we had one bite and we knew. Im not someone to waste food, but it was that bad. We told the waiter that the food wasn’t up to par and just tasted bad, he then called the manager. The manager gave us attitude right off the bat. He came gave a quick look and said the pizza is fine and this is just how our pizza’s are. I can’t do anything about that. Not even trying the food to see if indeed something is wrong. He really just didn’t care and didn’t want to hear us. Never again and I suggest you go somewhere else if you’re even considering this place.

The pizzas tasted sweet? And the pasta was watery and had no taste. Also the pasta was cold. The food was on the table within 10 minutes? A bit special.

I ate something here today that they call pizza there, but as far as I'm concerned this is unworthy of the name pizza. A frozen pizza from the supermarket's own brand has more flavor. The ham was not tasty and the 'tomato sauce' sour. I think it was tomato paste and not sauce. Our 5-year-old daughter was enthusiastic, she got her pizza in the shape of a rabbit's head. The tap in the ladies' toilet did not work, so we had to wash hands in the disabled toilet. There was a used diaper on the edge above the toilet. Children really enjoy it here because of the indoor play area, and the decoration of the restaurant is also quite nice, but if you want to eat a tasty pizza you shouldn't go here.

The pizzas were not tasty. The base was bad and the tomato sauce had a weird taste. It has nothing to do with Italy. They are more like American pizzas like Domino's and New York Pizza, but worse. There was no water in the ladies' toilet and you could not wash hands. We won't come here again.

Pasta tasted old and bad service. Barely saw the waiter and it all took a very long time. During checkout, additional products were also added to the receipt that had not been ordered.

Last night in Groningen. Ordered pasta for myself and 6 year old granddaughter. Very bad!! Leave everything alone after 2 bites. You also couldn't wash your hands as there was no water in the ladies' toilet. Never again!!

The food here is always excellent, and we thought it would be useful to go with a child because of the play area in the back. Unfortunately, my partner and I got sick from eating later that evening, resulting in extreme stomach cramps. Not again. The toilet in the restaurant was also very dirty. There was toilet paper with poop next to the toilet, the tap was not working. When I mentioned this, the waiter said: “yes indeed” I hope we get better soon.

The food was mediocre. Pizza does not have a good base. Small wine glasses. Pizzas went into the oven after twenty minutes after we asked how they were doing. Penne had suddenly become fusilli, because we were under time pressure and ate it anyway. To top it all off, a wrong receipt.

Had to wait a very long time for order to be taken. Then we had to wait a very long time to be served. The pizzas were all salt-free with a mediocre and one-sided garnish. Not recommended. Fun for small children because of the climbing wall.

To put it briefly, what a ball. Pizza döner without döner? I think it's very crazy! Wait half an hour for a round of beer? While the place isn't even full? There were also several pizzas without cheese! I normally don't like this moan and won't leave a bad review anytime soon but this beats everything! I advise everyone here on this platform to these people... Never go here!!!!!

The food was horrible, it was genuinely disgusting. The "cheesy garlic bread" was just dough with burnt cheese and pesto? Why pesto? The tomato sauce on the pizza was sour and I just had a margarita, my friend had the cheeseburger pizza and it was even worse. And I ordered garlic sauce, It was literally almost nothing and paid 1,30!!! To be brought to our table, we had to wait quite a while. Even though we came early and there weren't a lot of people yet. And to leave was even worse. We were obviously done and put our plates to the side of our table, which was one of those high ones that were very uncomfy and small. But it took them 30 minutes. And even then I had to sign them, try to talk to them. And thats when they came. The atmosphere was the best I think. Though I had some children banging on my chair behind me, I didn't care so much. I was uncomfortable in the chair anyway. I rate it an actual 1 star. I paid €25,20 in the end and regret every penny.

I had high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing. I ordered a pizza carpaccio, but it was covered in way too much sauce, completely overpowering the taste. It was almost inedible. In addition, the atmosphere was far from relaxed: screaming children were running around everywhere, which was a huge nuisance. Although the staff was friendly, I did not find their appearance and working method to be neat or professional. This is definitely not a place I would go to again.

We had dinner here last night with our family. It was extremely busy and the staff were working their butts off. The order was taken quickly, but then we had to wait a very long time for the drinks. These were eventually served and we were looking forward to the food. It took a very long time and customers at several tables around us were becoming restless because their orders were also taking a long time. After almost an hour the pizzas and pasta were brought, but my daughter got a wrong pizza. This was made immediately, but all in all it was delivered fifteen minutes later, which is a shame if you want to eat together. When we had finished eating, no one came to clear the table, so my husband went and got someone himself since we still had dessert. The ice cream order was taken but all that came...Eventually an employee saw us looking and came to ask if everything was okay and made sure we got our order. We personally think that the staff lost the overview due to the enormous crowds and they really did their best to make everyone happy, but it made the atmosphere very restless. Too bad, but despite everything we had a nice meal.

We had the pasta with chicken and mushrooms. Pizza with four cheeses. Caesar . The pasta is overcooked and the chicken is cut small. Why would you make the pizza big if there is almost no cheese on it? I don't recommend the four cheeses. You're better off eating pizza somewhere else. Caesar: finely chopped chicken, no tomatoes. The portions are large and they take them. It's like a canteen. You come and eat and forget.

Spontaneously decided to eat here on the recommendation of my friend. I ordered a pasta carbonara and he a Pasta Tartufo di Pollo. We received our food very quickly so that was great. Unfortunately my pasta had a strange strong aftertaste, at first I thought it was just me, but after my friend tried a few bites he didn't want any more. His pasta was tasty, by the way. Waited a long time and finally asked to pay and mentioned the special taste of the carbonara pasta. Nothing more could be done about it. The overall atmosphere is very massive and busy. Personally, I wouldn't go there again.

Never eaten somewhere so dirty. Left all three of our food after a few bites, 2 pizzas that really smelled, way too salty and a strange aftertaste. The same went for the cooked pasta that had so much red pepper in it that you couldn't taste anything else. Not very slay happy Italy, step up your game. The only edible thing was the arugula.

Following a complaint, I have adjusted my review, because understanding was shown and a suitable solution was offered. We had a great dinner yesterday at Happy Italy in Groningen. The staff was incredibly hospitable and made sure we had a great experience. My husband enjoyed his favorite spicy pepperoni pizza, which was prepared with great care. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was cozy. We look forward to coming again in the future! Thank you for the wonderful care and experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Vol ongeloof hebben wij gezien dat 3 muizen door het restaurant in Groningen rond rennen. Ze lijken gehuisvest in een stenen pilaar tussen de voorste tafeltjes in, wat later op de avond zagen wij de muizen onder de tafels speuren en op en neer rennen. We hebben dit aangegeven bij de medewerker, hij verklaarde dat het een oud pand betreft en een stads probleem, ze zouden mogelijk via de deur zijn binnenkomen. Vanwege ‘de overlast’ kregen we een drankje van de zaak als service. Toch zat ons dit niet lekker. Later blijkt uit reviews dat het personeel al weet heeft gehad van het muizenprobleem in het restaurant. Dit is zeer onhygiënisch, maar vooral onbegrijpelijk dat het restaurant niet tijdelijk sluit en dit grondig aanpakt. We hebben er nu 3 zien lopen, maar hoeveel meer komen er te voorschijn zonder drukte na sluitingstijd?

Eaten more often, had it delivered to your home once. “Average delivery time: 20-35 minutes.” 2.5 hours later still no food. Can't call because that place has an automatic selection menu that hangs up automatically. Just note that it is busy and can take 2.5 hours.

Food was fine, it did take a long time. We ordered a second round of drinks that never came, the bill was clarified but it is wasn't ideal. The place wasn't even that busy so that's isn't even an excuse. Probably would go somewhere else in future.

We ordered some pasta and the carpaccio salad. It was not bad however the pasta was over cooked, and lacked seasoning. Pricing is reasonable we payed 62 euros for 3. The atmosphere was a bit strange as at 8:30 we were still eating and they were vacuuming and cleaning the open kitchen it was very loud almost felt like they wanted us to leave.

At first glance, Happy Italy seems like a very nice place. Nicely decorated, open kitchen, etc. However, the fun quickly disappears the moment you are picked up by the waitress and allowed to take a seat somewhere. Happy Italy is a massive hall on the inside, which, despite the style in which it is decorated, does not create a pleasant atmosphere at all. The space is far too large to create any coziness, especially if you have to sit in the middle. It is not very busy on Monday evening, but the waitresses take a very long time. Arrived at the menu. Compared to the standard pizza place, there is little choice when it comes to pizzas. Not necessarily a bad thing. I order the prosciutto di parma, one of my favorite pizzas. The price is 15 euros. For this money I expect some quality, as I have come to expect from the pizza in the area, which is sold for the same price. After about 20 minutes I receive my food. Man man, what a pitiful purpose for a pizza. The dough is ok, a bit boring and sloppy, but not entirely philistine. The Parma ham is one of the cheapest I have ever tasted. For the first time I find sun-dried tomatoes on my pizza di parma, but these are also not tasty and are in abundance on the pizza. The 'parmesan cheese' found in flakes on the pizza couldn't be further from the real thing. I suspect they use a brand like parrano or some other counterfeit product. The arugula is okay, but it's also hard to screw up. I try to save my pizza with some extra virgin on the table, but this is also of low quality. All in all a sad experience. Not a place I will be returning to anytime soon. For this money I could do better myself.

Had to wait quite a long time for the starter, when they brought the starter the main course arrived within 2 minutes and we hadn't even finished one of the starters. It was chaotically busy and all three toilets were not working. Ignored 3 times by staff for new drinks and therefore had to wait 20 minutes for drinks. Food was okay but not special. The wine was also not tasty for 4.50 and I received a very small glass for this money for beer and wine

Had to wait over an hour for a pizza on a Wednesday. A bit of a shame. Not the best pizzas in terms of quality. But in addition to the food, there is also a sewage smell in the building. I would just walk on

For me 4 stars. A great restaurant for young and old. The food is very tasty and prepared very quickly for the size of the restaurant. There is also a relatively large play area for the children. What I don't like so much are the sanitary facilities. They are too small for the size of the place. And one more thing, if you talk to e.g. If two couples meet there for dinner, you cannot split the bill, the bill can only be billed as table white. I always go there. Highly recommended.

Big good pizzas for little money!

Het eten , we hadden allemaal een pizza, was gewoon echt heel slecht !! Ipv tomatensaus zit er tomatenpuree op de pizza, wat het een hele andere, vieze smaak geeft. Ken je die blikjes tomatenpuree van oa de Lidl, die je door macaroni etc heen kunt doen? Die hebben ze hier volgens mij voor op de pizza gebruikt bah ! Maar de pizza's waren ook gewoon koud en zonder smaak. Verder is er een ballenbak in de wc hoek en lagen er ballen uit die ballenbak in de wc's ....gaan die straks zo weer in de ballenbak terug of gaat iemand ze echt afwassen? Toen wij opstonden om weg te gaan, zat er een meisje uit de bediening op de grond achter de balie een stukje pizza te eten ?? Raar toch ? Bediening was wel heel erg vriendelijk, vandaar nog 2 sterren.

Spontaneously, two of us decided to have something to eat last Tuesday. We received a friendly welcome, were given a seat and the drinks we ordered arrived quickly. After our dishes, the Pizza Spicy Chicken and the Pasta Pollo e Pesto, arrived, it quickly became apparent that the pasta was not the right one. After I asked if the waitress wanted to walk by our table, she was distracted by a larger group of people. No problem can happen and I went to someone else for this. An apology was made, but since we were somewhat on time and did not want to rush with our food, I asked the man to simply take the pizza and that it was okay. (We were both quite full from this shared pizza alone, to be honest hehe) This good man only insisted that we would still get the right pasta from the house and if necessary take it for to-go if we could give him 5 minutes. Of course we couldn't turn this down and we both thought the pasta was even better than the pizza. An error can happen in a small corner, but the handling was very pleasant and left me with a 5 star feeling :) There is nothing to complain about the food and it is simply delicious from Happy Italy. Thanks to the generous portions, you can be sure that you will walk out with a full stomach.

Hoewel de pasta erg lekker was, was de service erg slecht. De ober gedroeg zich heel anders tegen de vrouwelijke gasten in het gezelschap en er werden meerdere fouten gemaakt door het personeel. Bij het ontvangen van het eten bleek de verkeerde pastasoort te zijn gebruikt, wat natuurlijk kan gebeuren. Wel jammer dat er dan vervolgens tegen de chefs gezegd wordt dat 'ze moeilijk is'. Ook bij de vraag om kaas bij de pasta werden er opmerkingen uitgewisseld. Uiteindelijk zijn we, na meer dan twintig minuten te hebben gewacht op ons drinken, erg teleurgesteld weggegaan.

Cappuccino without coffee was something new🤣🤣 especially when the waitress started to prove the opposite. I don't understand why you ask if everything was ok if you don't accept the answer?! Pizza is average, pasta is normal. We were very surprised that they brought us desserts and put them on a table that was dirty after pizza. We are not used to such "service". After happy Italy I'm not happy.

If I could I would give -stars. Although the service was nice and the food came quickly, unfortunately it was subpar. Unfortunately, I have to say that I haven't had such a bad meal in a long time...I can't understand the good reviews for excellent pizza. Partly burnt to the point of being inedible, completely holey, dry dough. Carpaccio tasted like it was no longer good. The pasta was completely overcooked. But the prices were quite high in terms of price-performance ratio. I really can't recommend it.

Unfortunately, I cannot confirm the 5-star reviews for "Happy Italy", not even regarding the highly praised pizza. We didn't allow ourselves to be deterred by some of the critical/negative reviews and visited the restaurant as a group of four (two couples) on an early Monday evening. The restaurant wasn't very busy yet, but we were informed that there would still be a few groups coming and that it might take a little longer to order. Shortly afterwards the restaurant began to fill up with a few groups, but it didn't have any negative impact on the duration of the order as we had obviously arrived on time. Drinks and food came very quickly. We each ordered Buschetta and pizza. The bruschetta was cold, which may have been intentional. The pizza was large (according to the menu 35 cm) and the base was thin. The taste was okay, but really nothing special. I really can't understand the exuberant (positive) reviews about this. In addition, the edge was partially burnt, i.e. black, so that around 3/8 of the edge was inedible. The interior of the restaurant was attractive and enticed us to visit. What we didn't realize was that the arrival of the groups would increase the noise level in the restaurant immensely. A normal conversation at the table was no longer possible. When I ordered a beer from the waitress, but instead of a large one I wanted a small one, she confirmed that it was a large one. When I corrected this and asked for a small again, she confirmed again a large and I corrected a second time. Of course, a large one was delivered, which I now returned. Then finally I got the small beer I wanted. The service staff acted very differently, from appearing nice to apathetic. Ultimately, one can summarize that the food deserves three stars with a lot of goodwill, as does the service. The location, despite the beautiful interior, only deserves one star due to the noise level.

Happy Italy? Rather depressed Italy. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

First time and also the last time for us. We had to wait almost an hour for our food (2x pizza). Pizzas were cold when we got them and just tasted like sauce. We also wanted desserts but decided to leave anyway as we had to wait a very long time for our food. Staff did not come to your table and we had to call them to ask how our food was. People who arrived after us got their food before us.

Great restaurant. Here you can have an affordable bite to eat. Although we found the pizzas a little less tasty this round. We finally ate some of the kapsalon pizza (which our daughter liked) with difficulty (really not tasty!) and the Hawaiian pizza barely had any pineapple on it. Other times the pizzas were super tasty... so maybe I just made a bad choice this round. Large, neat restaurant, almost always available. Friendly and smooth service.

English speaking staff, no attention for guests, when the food is served, tasty food is not desired, very little is spoken to the guests, it is no more than sitting down, drinking, paying for food and leaving. Playground for children is a huge disappointment. Pizzas predominate with an extreme amount of tomato paste. You are not asked whether everything is to your liking or whether everything has been to your liking. Tables are wiped down afterwards with a dirty cloth and that's it. The fun thing for children is an activity and coloring page that they receive. Not for us again.

Once but never again. The pizza was decent, but when we saw a mouse walking I didn't want my food anymore. We were allowed to choose another table so that we could sit further away from the mouse, but other than that there was no response at all that we saw a mouse, while I think you should take this problem very seriously.

Bad acoustics. Lots of noise from music, voices, kitchen clatter and chairs sliding.

€3.40 for water because you only get it from the tap at rose; Drinks were simply placed on the table with 'find it out for yourself'; and the food just wasn't great. Very bland and salt and pepper did not make it any better. Finally, the group of us could not understand each other. It wasn't full, but the acoustics aren't great.

Smakeloze pasta en pizza. We zijn geen kieskeurige fijnproevers, maar dit was vreselijk. Verder loopt bediening rond zonder oog voor de klant maar wel voortdurend kijkend op hun schermpjes. Je moet naar ze zwaaien om aandacht te krijgen. Jammer, maar hier komen we niet meer.

Unfortunately the food was very disappointing...shame!

I picked up my bestselling two pizzas, the pizza condina with pineapple, but they were received without pineapple, and I think that is a great shame and a shame that I paid €1.25 for nothing, I can't enjoy my pizza! You were closed by phone because it was at 9 o'clock. How can you solve this?

The garlic bread was nice but the pizzas and pasta were not that great. The staff were not very pleasant, often seeming in a rush or just ignoring us when we tried to call them to order.

The food was a mixed bag - the two pasta dishes were bland, the prosciutto di parma pizza was good, while the seafood pizza was so unpleasantly salty it couldn't be finished. But the service was the low point of the evening. It took so long even to make an order, the waiting staff seemingly didn't notice our attempts to call them to our table. When taking an order for 7 people, 6 people had made their order and one asked for an additional few minutes to decide. The waiter didn't return for 20 minutes, and when he finally did, he informed us that we all had to repeat our orders because "no orders were started because one order was missing". We ended up getting our food more than an hour after coming in. Lastly, I find putting the chairs on tables as if the restaurant is being prepared to be closed 45 minutes before closing time to not be very hospitable. We were still finishing our meal, so it felt like we were being not-so-subtly kicked out.

Fast delivery, great pizza, plenty of vegan options!
