The cutlery was filthy. The food arrived late and was inedible. No, they haven't gotten any better. I would never eat there again.

Disappointing experience at Happy Italy Schiedam Although we had made a reservation, upon entering we were immediately told that we would have to wait at least 45 minutes and that it could take even longer. That is, of course, very annoying if you have to go to the movies afterwards and run the risk of missing the film. What made the experience even less pleasant was the way we were received at the door. The staff did not come across as helpful, friendly, or sociable, and there was little effort put into finding a solution. We therefore decided not to wait and went to De Beren next door. Fortunately, we were welcomed pleasantly there. All in all, a very disappointing experience for us and not recommended if you want to combine a restaurant visit with a movie.

Bad service, staff don't smile, unfriendly, and impossible to get through to. We waited 45 minutes for us, then asked where it was, and they secretly passed it on to the kitchen. The food was tasty, by the way, but on the pricey side for what you get. If you want to go to Happy Italy, don't go here!! Avoid this place!

What terrible service you get here at Happy Italy Schiedam. The food arrives late, and it's cold too. And when you mention it, they look at you as if to say what you mean. This is definitely the last time I'll be here. So, folks? Think carefully if you're planning to go to Happy Italy. You'd be better off going to the one in Blaak or Wilhelminaplein. But avoid Schiedam.

Terrible experience. Worthless place. Had to wait 1.5 hours for the food and terrible service. Extremely slow and unfriendly. Can't manage a smile and can't utter a normal word. Just standing around doing nothing the whole time. Not recommended!!

I had made a reservation for 6:15 PM to have a nice dinner with my family before going to the movie. Upon arrival, they made things very difficult and said that we couldn't eat for another 45 minutes at the earliest, and maybe even later. I had planned well in advance, but they couldn't guarantee that I would make the movie because it might take even longer. So, folks: making reservations is a flop at this restaurant; they looked at me emotionlessly and numbly anyway when I said I had a reservation. Never again!!

No waiting time at the door... but we sat at a table for 35 minutes... waiting.... no one took our order for drinks... or food.... We indicated several times to the passing waitress that we wanted to order... but unfortunately... the waitresses were talking more to each other than to the customers, the shop was only open downstairs. Not all tables were occupied. Absolutely no reason not to serve us. When leaving, we indicated that we found it strange, the person apologized, but was only responsible for serving... typical of a tightly organized chain.... waiting when it's busy is fine, but I have never experienced being ignored... a big fat 0 for Not Happy Italy.

The food was good, but drinks took a bit long every time. The table was fine, but it was a shame that there were two ladies sitting at the table next to us with a child who was watching a movie at a much too loud volume. I think the staff really should say something about this, because I could still hear it downstairs in the restroom. Otherwise, we had a great evening.

Ugh, worst pasta of my life. The mushrooms were expired, the cheese too, and I didn't even eat the chicken.

Definitely not recommended; the pasta carbonara was a kind of greasy bomb with a fake cheese sauce, we got a dirty glass with the water, and the staff could really use a training course. Also, lots of flies.

The entrance was okay, but after that, absolutely no attention at all. The staff were probably severely understaffed, left, and went to De Beren next door.. go check that out (not so). Happy Italy, the people who work there know how it's done..

My wife and I ordered pasta pollo funghi; my pasta arrived covered in sauce, while her pasta arrived dry, was still cold, and the mushrooms were not properly cooked.

Making a reservation is pointless; they won't hold a table for you anyway, nor do they take any specific requests into account. Upon entering, we were immediately told there was a 40-minute wait for the food? Strange. The table was sticky. The place is incredibly dusty; there is dust everywhere you look. Even the air conditioning and ventilation were covered in a thick layer of dust. We couldn't order drinks until after 25 minutes. So we just ordered the food right away. Unfortunately, this branch is not recommended. Neither the pizzas nor the pastas were tasty. Spijkenisse knows how to do it. It's a shame; we were hoping for a pleasant evening, but the staff apparently thinks otherwise. Service is poor. The staff has the wrong mentality and gives priority to acquaintances.

Service very slow and poor. We waved to order drinks, were nodded, and then forgotten about. We waited fifteen minutes (after the pizza arrived) to order a drink. Once ordered, it took another fifteen minutes before it was brought. I will not be coming back here.

The food is delicious and ready super fast.

A few years ago, Happy Italy was really one of my favorites. But then there was a turning point and it declined. Now, about 4 to 5 years later, we wanted to give it another chance. Both the restaurant and the food look good. But things went wrong a bit with the service right from the start. We were seated at a table where rings from the previous guests were still visible, and no one even wiped down the table. Since they seemed to be just rings from drinks, I didn't say anything further about it. The person taking the orders clearly wasn't in the mood. The homemade mango lemonade wasn't special either, and I couldn't taste any mango in it at all... The portions are large and you can eat there reasonably cheaply. But I just really didn't like the food. We had two different pizzas and I felt both had a distinct flavor. Not because there was anything wrong with them (I think), but just really not my thing. My husband, however, thought his pizza was just fine. We skipped the dessert we actually came for (the sweet pizza fragola) after we had eaten the pizzas.

We were at Happy Italy for the second time; the food was delicious, not like the first time (when I found it way too salty), but this time everything was balanced. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had a tiramisu for dessert. 😋😋😋

A very nice restaurant with friendly staff. On the Saturday afternoon I was there, it was very quiet.

We ate at Happy Italy today. It was warm outside, but inside it was really stuffy and unpleasantly hot. First, we had to wait a very long time to order, and then it took even longer to get our drinks. Then drinks spilled all over the table; we asked for a damp cloth ourselves because the table was sticky. There was no response, and the lady walked away. Fortunately, someone did come back to wipe down the table. We pointed out that the beer was warm; I went to consult with someone, and she was gone. She poured some other drinks, and we got someone else tipsy. She took the beer away and came back with a lukewarm beer; the fridges aren't working properly due to the heat. When the food arrived, there was no cutlery; we had to ask for it ourselves. Some people's food tasted sour, and no one asked for an extra round of drinks. The toilets were not clean; toilet paper was everywhere on the floor. Nowadays, you are supposed to put leftovers in the bin yourself. We didn't order dessert and certainly didn't leave a tip. To top it all off, everyone had a stomach ache in the evening.

Lots of noise, I ordered a salad and my husband spaghetti, the salad came first, the spaghetti 20 min. later.😣

Not special, chaotic staff. Serving one table at once hasn't worked yet, but it is cheap and there is play space for the children.. update after a few years: it has gotten even worse. How is it possible to find such uninterested staff.

The food is fine and affordable. Unfortunately, there is no atmosphere if you sit outside on the terrace. The tables and cutlery are not clean either. They could take a leaf out of the book of the adjacent restaurant De Beren. The service outside is also completely unenthusiastic and seems to have no desire to work.

We had a delicious meal with the children at a cozy round table. There is a play area upstairs and the restaurant is downstairs.

I cannot in good faith recommend this place - mostly due to it taking about an hour from when we entered the restaurant until we got our first bit of appetizer, which we got before our drinks. The Virgin Mojito (I was expecting something like a "Mosquito") tasted so god awful that it tasted like alcohol to me, so we let it go back. The second try was "better", but still absolutely not to my taste. The Mango Lemonade was "eh". I was parched, so drank it, but I was underwhelmed. The "Super Cheesy Garlic Bread" Starter was amazing! The Bruschetta bread was relatively dry and seemed to have stood idle for some time before arriving to our table. The Pasta was "mid" and I only finished it because I was hungry. Noone else in our 5-person group finished their meal. The Service was friendly, but so very very slow - the location was clearly overwhelmed with the amount of customers, despite us getting a 5-people table without reservation. Their tagline "Epic Taste for less" does not match our experience, as the prices are not noticeably low and the taste was underwhelming. Not "bad", but also not "Good".

Terrible! It took a very long time for them to come to the table. They didn't clear away empty glasses and plates, so you sat with a full table for half the evening. Wearing gloves to clear away dirty dishes, they touched the plate with the pizza on it that you wanted to take home. The pasta carbonara didn't taste like it at all.

The food was tasty, but the table service could be much better. The table was full of empty glasses. Having to wait a long time for your drinks, and when you order two waters with dessert and only receive them after the dessert is finished, I find that very annoying. I also found the staff not very motivated, with a few exceptions. And you can feel that throughout the entire establishment. A shame.

Happy Italy Schiedam gets 2 stars. I could give them 1 star, but the food itself was simply good. Richly filled Caesar salad, tasty pizza carpaccio. Otherwise, it was a negative experience. It seemed like the wait staff were on their first day of work and mostly walked around looking dazed with trays of drinks. We ate the starter without cutlery because there was no one to ask for it. When my daughter and husband had already been eating the main course for 10 minutes, someone came to the table to ask: is it correct that a Caesar salad still needs to come? Something arrived after that. After 15 minutes, someone else came to ask if everything was to our liking, while I was still starving. Things went even worse with dessert, because my husband and child had already finished dessert before I received mine. We were asked to pay in advance while I hadn't received my dessert yet! My husband asked if they were closing (it was 8:00 PM), but that was not the case. When the card machine didn't do what the wait staff wanted, there was also some cursing at the table.

Upon entering, there were already 20 people waiting, but no one was spoken to and everyone was even ignored by the staff. We had made a reservation but were not even looked at. After waiting for a while, we just went to the neighbors (Beren restaurant), where we were served with a smile and had a nice meal. Never been treated like this in a restaurant; never again to Happy Italy!

Mocktail super sweet. Like I was drinking pure syrup. I mentioned it, but nothing was done about it. Risotto tartufo: a huge amount of risotto, large soggy mushrooms, barely any truffle flavor, not tasty. We had to search for the meat on the pizzas. I pointed this out too, but this was the standard. The staff were cutting pizza extremely clumsily, licking their fingers, and one pizza even fell on the floor. I mentioned it, but it wasn't true. Afterwards, I ordered 3 waffles to take away. Had to wait 45 minutes for them!!! I reported it 4 times, and eventually received half-burnt, cold waffles. I mentioned that too, but again it was: this is how we do it, it's busy so it's logical that we had to wait a bit longer, and there was no compensation. The staff were grumpy and irritated towards me. I was really not happy with this visit. And 110 euros poorer for 4 people.

I ordered pasta and it arrived with a cheerful woman, but then I stirred my food: no sauce and no flavor. The chicken is completely hard and inedible, the mushrooms the same. They were supposed to start with fair trade, they might as well do that.

Went out for dinner yesterday on a Wednesday evening; it was very busy and there was far too little staff. We waited a very long time before we could order, then waited 50 minutes for the food, which was also lukewarm. It was all bizarrely bad; almost all customers had the same problem. If you mentioned it, the staff would roll their eyes. If you have too little staff, then don't take on customers anymore.

It states online that they are open until 22:00 and the kitchen closes at 21:30. If you order food for takeout at 21:00, your order is cancelled even though it was initially confirmed. When you then go to the restaurant to complain, you are told that the kitchen closes at 21:15. Poor service and they do not live up to what is stated on the website… apparently they don't want to get good publicity for the company!

What a fiasco, I've been waiting for my pizza for over 1.5 hours.

We made a reservation properly, but having to wait 15 minutes just to be able to order drinks after the table had been assigned was too long for me. We left and had a fine evening at De Beren next door. Incidentally, no one spoke to us when we left our table.

It took 15 minutes just to be shown to a table, and then we had to wait 50 minutes for our food. The employees are not customer-friendly either, especially the man with tattoos and gray hair.

Delicious food and a child-friendly environment. Nowadays, it is also an excellent location for children's parties. Children can play there and then decorate their own pizzas. The staff is very friendly. The prices are slightly higher than average, but it is worth it, especially for children's parties.

Incredibly bad experience; In an almost empty establishment, wanting to sit on a bench with two people two hours before closing time. Directed to a small table because this table had just been cleaned... What do you mean. Subsequently, the young girl calmly continued cleaning tables instead of serving us. We went to dinner with three people. We had made a reservation and were seated next to the play area. We were surrounded by screaming children, and children kept running past the table. We waited 50 minutes for our food. Our order was incomplete because one pizza was still in the oven. It would arrive later? When we ordered drinks during dinner, they still hadn't arrived by the time our food was finished, so we wanted to cancel them. Canceling them took 10 minutes, after which she returned with our drinks to tell us they had already been made, so we'd have to pay for them. The employee then walked away with our drinks. The restroom was extremely dirty, and the men's urinals were overflowing. Never again!

My son celebrated a classmate's birthday there. He fell at the play area and couldn't grip the stairs. Happyitalie is not responsible for this, even though there's a play area there, which can be quite dangerous if you're allowed to play in socks and can't hold on to anything. HAPPYITALIE REGION SCHIEDAM My son fell in the play area and broke his arm, which required surgery! I'm posting this here in case anyone else has experienced something similar at the play area.

The wait for your food is unbelievably long, with wait times exceeding an hour. Since I was here with a two-year-old, I wouldn't recommend this as a family restaurant.

A terrible company. If you're not hungry, you can't order a child's portion as an adult. And you can only pay for leftovers to take home. Typical American business model. You get overly large portions purely for photo purposes, and you can throw the rest away if you don't want to pay. Eat better at a smaller restaurant nearby; at least you're paying for real food there.

We celebrated our daughter's birthday party here last weekend. We received a warm welcome and had a great spot upstairs next to the indoor playground. The kids had a delicious meal and played happily. They regularly checked in with us to see if we needed anything, and the staff was very friendly. All in all, it was a fantastic party, and we were very satisfied. We highly recommend having a children's party here!

We started with the garlic cheese it was fantastic 10/10, then pasta salad and pizza half half the meatball pasta was mid I had better the other pasta was really good. The pizza it was spicy chicken and Carpatsio. The Carpatsio was good and the spicy chicken was too spicy. The salad was really good and enough. Last for dessert it was burnt..no comments the service lady said “if you didn’t touch it at all I could bring you a new one. Sorry lady but we saw it in the end because the person who made it made sure that he hides it in the bottom of the waffle . So unprofessional behavior of the lady for that but other than that the service was okay. Also the dessert for the waffle was cold and it’s triple chocolate. When it should be warm . No coments for the dessert. Never again everything was good and the place is very beautiful and organized.

A woman with ginger hair, but WITHOUT a hairnet, made the pasta. Then she wiped the sweat from her head and continued with the same gloves. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

Great food! Great service! They had some special offers and they were extra nice to the kid we had with us. The price of the items on the menu is very reasonable and we will definitely be going back!

What a strange situation here. No one comes to take your plates away or ask if you'd like another drink. They just stand there, two of them, looking stupid. The pasta was way too spicy and tasteless, really. Such a shame.

Long waiting time for someone to come to your table

It's beyond words! We had a reservation for 4 people, and it was 6:30 PM. When we arrived, the upstairs looked empty from below, and the downstairs was absolutely packed. After waiting 10 minutes, we were assigned to a table next to the stairs without a word of welcome. One of my companions had a leg injury, so we couldn't sit at a high table. We asked the waitress if we could move, but she said no, that wasn't possible. The upstairs was full. The waitress walked away without taking any drinks. The whole place was also blue and smelled of burnt pans. We quickly left, never again in Schiedam.

Upon entering, the entire restaurant was filled with smoke. We already had a bad impression, but we gave it a try. We were then given all the available seats, including high chairs next to the stairs near the entrance. We asked for a different seat, which, strangely enough, wasn't possible, despite having made a reservation. When we were told we couldn't get another seat, we weren't even asked if we wanted a drink, and the waitress had already left. The staff was very impersonal and downright rude. Not recommended; look for another Happy Italy or something similar.

Upon entering, three staff members stood idle, yet we still had to wait. The restaurant wasn't even half full, and there was only one "reserved" sign at a large table. Yet, we were only allowed a small table where you could see our neighbors' plates and chat with them. When I indicated that I'd prefer more space and a larger table, we were told no, because "two of us" meant a small table and nothing else. We left and won't be back.

Happy Italië in Schiedam is a cozy spot for Italian food lovers. The pizzas and pastas are delicious and freshly prepared, and the menu offers plenty of variety for everyone. The portions are generous, and the presentation of the dishes is appealing. One minor point to note is that it can get a bit busy, and the staff isn't always quick. The service could also be a bit friendlier, but this doesn't detract from the quality of the food. All in all, a great place for a delicious Italian meal, and I definitely recommend returning.

You can order in the restaurant until 9:15 PM (even though they're open until 10:00 PM). We arrived at 9:10 PM after the movie and were turned away. Absolutely unfriendly. We won't be back.

December 3, 2025. Unfortunately, the texting waitress was more focused on her phone than on us. After waiting 20 minutes to order ANYTHING, we said goodbye to the idle chef and went to De Beren, the restaurant next to Happy Italy. There, we got drinks within a minute, and our order was taken incredibly quickly. So, the moral of the story: save yourself the trouble and just go straight to De Beren. The photo shows the drinks we got at De Beren; we couldn't order anything at Happy Italy.

Took a long time to get your food, and it wasn't really busy

Waiting 16 minutes for a Coke and arguing with the employee who calls himself the manager. Disgraceful.

While the Schiedam location used to be a place for a good, quick, and affordable bite, it's now sadly lost its charm. The staff is unfriendly, unmotivated (they walk around in a shambling fashion), and fast. The menu offers a fairly wide selection, but unfortunately, several experiences show that it's the rule rather than the exception that the dishes come out of the kitchen incorrectly and/or cold. When taking our dessert order, the table isn't cleared, and dirty plates remain on the table even when desserts are served. There are no cutlery or napkins on the tables, and when we ask for cutlery, they bring it fairly quickly, but not clean. We were also assigned a table that was still covered in crumbs from the guests before us. The advantage of this location is its accessibility: the nearby train station, the adjacent parking garage, and bicycle parking make it easily accessible.

The food arrived quickly, even though they said it might take a little longer, which was nice. However, the food was awful. Everything was pre-prepared junk. The pasta pesto was more like cream pasta, no pesto to be seen. The chicken in it looked like it was three days old. The pizza sauce tasted heavy and overly garlicky, and the pizza crust was as soft as can be. Very bad. We won't be coming back here again.

Uninspired "Italian" food. The pizzas used to be okay here, and they had a nicer, more extensive menu, but unfortunately, these days it's no longer recommended...

We ate here with family. It took a while to order. A group of seven people had to wait much longer, which is understandable since their order was larger than others. Another group of two people had to wait even longer for their order. That's ridiculous!! After receiving it, we didn't have any cutlery. We had to wait for that as well. The pasta was delicious, though it could have been cooked a bit longer. There were a few hard pieces. The chicken had a nice flavor. The cocktail was also excellent! The restaurant is clean, attractive, spacious, and atmospheric, easily accessible by car and public transport. It's also good for small and large groups, including children.

Today, after a long time, I went for pizza and then, of course, to Little Italy in Schiedam. What a disappointment! The staff was friendly, but when I order a Coke with sugar, I don't want a Coke with sweetener. And if you say anything about that, sir, we don't have Coke, only Pepsi with sweetener. 😫 I did eventually get a bottle of water. Then my pizza arrived. It wasn't even hot, but lukewarm, and just try cutting a piece with (cutlery)—it's impossible! And look around... everyone's fiddling around with cutting... you can't tell me any of the staff doesn't see this. And then, when I went to pay, I saw that they had added the Pepsi and water to the bill. 😡 This was my last time here. 🤐

We received extremely poor service at this location. It started the moment we walked in. The restaurant was only 20% full. We had someone with us on crutches, and the staff just stood next to us, chatting (not work-related). This took ages, and when I approached a female employee, I received an angry look. When we were finally shown to our table, it took fifteen minutes before we could order drinks. Our food also arrived after 40 minutes, even though we had ordered two simple pizzas and a pasta dish. A large family sitting next to us arrived at least fifteen minutes after us and received their food fifteen minutes earlier. Even while we were sitting at our table, we received angry looks from the employee I had previously approached. Truly unprofessional! We then proceeded to stuff our food down, but had to leave half of it behind because otherwise we wouldn't have made it to the movie. I've never received such poor service, not even at other locations of this chain.

The location is amazing for the cinema and is ideal for go with kids as they have a play place in the first floor. But unfortunately the food wasn't good the pasta was overcook and for some reasons have an after taste a bit extrange y really don't enjoy the food. I ordered alos a porn start Martini to handle my deception with the food and they gave me the cocktel in a glass without passion fruit even that the menu have it the waitress told me that the usual way of corn start martini with the cup and the fruit is only for the picture en the menu But they don't serve like this 😵‍💫. My sister order a dessert with lemon and longer fingers and she says that was good and didn't tried. The service was kind and fast.

Upon arrival (Wednesday at 5:30 PM), there was no table for three. The top floor was closed due to understaffing. After about half an hour, a table became available, and we asked if we could all eat there, as we'd already been spread out. My husband was sitting alone at a table five tables away. Such a shame 😞 At my request, a thin male staff member replied (to his colleague): "I really don't feel like switching tables or have time. Just leave them as they are." He has absolutely no empathy, but he's a stressed and exhausting man. We were so disappointed in him. My son went over to my husband four times to check on his father, as he's used to eating together...

The food and reception were good. The restaurant itself was dirty...dirty chairs...dirty tables...

Upon entering, a server asked if we had a reservation, and the answer was yes. We stood there for another three minutes, and the same server didn't look up or around. After asking again if we had a table (yes or no, we had a reservation), they went to check if there was one (at least 10 tables free). Yes, there was a table. We then ordered drinks and food. After 20 minutes, we asked, "Where are the drinks?" "Yes, they're coming!" And indeed, after a few minutes, the drinks arrived. After 40 minutes (so 60 minutes in total), we asked, "Where is the food?" Three pizzas, one pasta... "Yes, they're coming!" After two minutes, the food arrived. Women's restroom: one working, the other not. Hand soap was gone. Men's restroom: one working, two urinals out of order. Hand soap was gone. 70 euro bill: four pizzas, a bottle of wine, two apple juices. I'm sorry, but this Happy Italy still exists... and there are zero Italian pizzas on the menu! And it's not even full yet!!!! Poor, first-class stuff!

The pizza and pasta were disappointing. I'm used to better from them.

Great for a quick bite before going to the cinema: tasty food, fast service, and plenty of space inside and on the terrace. What I don't appreciate is the background music. For me, it really detracts from the atmosphere and the quality of the experience when you have to speak loudly to be heard over the noise.

I can say that it's one of the best restaurants for those looking for a kid-friendly restaurant. You can leave the cinema and other playgrounds and come here with your kids, eat delicious food and hang out in peace. The food is served very quickly at the restaurant. The staff is attentive and polite. The atmosphere is very nice, the interior is modern, the kids love it here. (( But I do have a small suggestion about the water glasses. The glasses come clean but they should use a little more effective detergent. The glasses have a slightly bad smell. Also, water or food was spilled on the seats and they wiped it up but it still looks stained and there are food crumbs. A general cleaning is needed; the space between the seat we sat in and the next was very dusty. This made us a little sad. Such a beautiful place should have good cleanliness control.

Such a bad service. THE PASTA NEVER COMES! We waited for an hour. Paid a 4€ parking without getting any food. We ordered some pasta, garlic bread, cola and a summer special ice cold tiramisu drink. The cola came without a problem, but the ice cold tiramisu drink wasn’t cold at all and it was missing things that they described so I sent it back and took a while before it came cold without extra things that showed in the description of the drink. The bread was there after a while. But THE PASTA NEVER COMES! Asked the runners but nothing came out of it, so we left.

The benches weren't in the best condition, stained and sometimes sticky. The food was delicious, though. Staff often only came to our table after we were called, not spontaneously asking if we wanted anything else.
