We had a truly delicious meal earlier this year. Top-notch quality and true hospitality. Definitely worth repeating. Today was finally the day... Unfortunately, the restaurant had to close its doors. Dear owners, we wish you strength with this hurdle in realizing your dream. It will all work out in the future, and we look forward to seeing new doors open elsewhere. We're ready to welcome you.

What a fantastic place! A building steeped in history, which is also reflected in the decor. The service is welcoming, the food delicious, the prices reasonable, and the atmosphere very pleasant. I had lunch this time, and I'll be back for dinner soon! Highly recommended!!

Amazing place and certainly one of the best places around. Fantastic home made food and beer. Try the stroopwafel! Very charming, knowledgeable and friendly staff. It wont get better for these prices. Amazing.

Exceptionally delicious food, friendly service, and a stunning location! We ate there twice and felt incredibly welcome both times. No pretentiousness, just a great performance. And all this in a beautiful building and a magnificent garden.

A beautiful historic building where you can enjoy the excellent food in various spots. The gardens serve as a sort of "food forest" and are full of unique plants and flowers. We sat outside until late and thoroughly enjoyed everything. Highly recommended!

A team of young(er) people who cook and serve for you. They enjoy their job and that is a rarity these days. We didn't have much time and that's why we opted for plate service but we will definitely come back for the chef's menu. Five courses in which you are taken into a world of your choice. I can already look forward to it.

Lovely seating, good service and a nice menu for both a warm, cold and the more traditional lunch. The toasted sandwich bread is a bit disappointing compared to the sourdough bread with dip; they should use that bread for the toasted sandwiches. The raw vegetables with the burrata salad are from 1980 and could use an update with seasonal vegetables; I think the Arsenaal has a great team of chefs who can handle that. Oysters were excellent.

A truly unique place with a rich history. We also had an indoor table that opened onto the garden. An incredible welcome. This time, we opted for an à la carte dinner, but I must admit that the chef's four- and five-course menu, as well as the vegetarian menu, were very tempting. My choice of duck was perfect, perfectly cooked and accompanied by vegetables in a honeyed sauce. The white lady to finish, with the server bringing the hot chocolate still in the pan, truly impeccable service. This is a place I absolutely recommend.

High-quality, inventive cuisine and impeccable service. A decor with a story to tell makes this place even more appealing. My only regret is not choosing the chef's menu. That's a good reason to come back.

Nice building with plenty of parking nearby. Had a nice lunch on a nice, sunny terrace.

It is lovely to sit in the garden. We ate the main course inside because it was too chilly outside. Also beautiful inside, nice atmosphere. Food is delicious! Really special dishes!

Naar aanleiding van vele goede reviews en mooie locatie gekozen om te lunchen bij het Arsenaal 1309. We werden vriendelijk ontvangen door de enige persoon in de bediening. Bij het opgeven van de bestelling moest er steeds geïnformeerd worden in de keuken of dit er wel was. Kwam door nieuwe menukaart, welke er nog niet was moesten dus kiezen uit de oude… Geen oesters, geen vis. Vooraf brood en smeerseltjes was matig. Bakje marmelade ( wat abrikozen jam zou moeten zijn, beetje kruidenboter en tapenade . Niet er verrassend . Het vegetarisch wortelgerecht voor mijn vrouw was smakelijk. De eend voor mij was anders dan op de kaart beschreven, geen saus , werd na dat ik het had opgemerkt als nog gebracht. De eend rook sterk en de smaak was erg teleurstellend. Kortom weinig smaakcreativiteit van de keuken. We hebben het de bediening dit alles gemeld. Hij zou het aan de keuken doorgeven .. voor ons een plek om niet meer terug te komen. Tot slot nog even een compliment voor de bediening die erg vriendelijk was.

Fantastic food and drinks! Many special, original dishes (also many vegetarian) with local seasonal products from the garden or surroundings. The home-brewed beers and botanical drinks are also recommended. Enjoyed delicious sourdough bread on the sunny terrace with special and delicious spreads. All flavors are refined and sometimes funky in a good way and we have never had anything like that anywhere else. If we are in the area we will come back!

Heerlijke gerechten, verrassend lekkere Dutch cuisine. De vegetarische gerechten zijn verfijnd en creatief. Bediening persoonlijk met kennis van de gerechten. Komen zeker terug.

The food was delicious, especially the vegetarian dishes were surprisingly tasty. The only downside is the cold room (it was also cold outside).

Op 1 januari gereserveerd. Kreeg vriendelijk telefoontje dat gezien de 1e dag van opening na kort reces, er die dag alleen een menu geserveerd wordt met de beschikbare verse producten. De gerechten waren allen bijzonder qua (lokale) ingredienten, opmaak en smaak. Zo worden veel gerechten gemaakt met producten uit de eigen kloostertuin en maakt chefkok Bjorn de Waal ook gebruik van subtiele fermentatie, die hij in zijn kelder lab space maakt. De non-alcoholische pairing (ik was de bob) was een van de mooiste die ik tot nu toe heb gehad; combiniaties groente-, fruitsap en kombucha mooi afgestemd op de gerechten. De passie van de keuken om bijzondere duurzame gerechten en dranken in een mooie, ruwe ruimte te serveren en hun klanten een bijzondere ervaring te geven, maken de rit naar Doesburg meer dan waard.

Made reservations on 1 January. Received friendly phone call that given the 1st day of opening after short recess, only a menu will be served that day with available fresh produce. The dishes were all special in terms of (local) ingredients, presentation and taste. For instance, many dishes are made with produce from the in-house monastery garden and chef Bjorn de Waal also uses subtle fermentation, which he produces in his cellar lab space. The non-alcoholic pairing (I was the bob) was one of the finest I have had so far; combinations of vegetable, fruit juice and kombucha beautifully matched to the dishes. The kitchen's passion for serving exceptional sustainable dishes and drinks in a beautiful, raw space and giving their customers a special experience makes the drive to Doesburg well worth it.

Echt een geweldige ervaring gehad. Elke hap was een smaakexplosie. Bijzondere texturen, duidelijke uitleg per gerecht, en ja - geweldige combinatie van smaken. Ik droom nog steeds over het tempeh hapje. De service was uitstekend. Wat mij betreft een ster waard.

In een aparte zaal met onze groep gegeten. In totaal 15/16 mensen. Het eten was qua smaak ok. De temperatuur was minder- lauw. Bij het hoofdgerecht ontbraken de groenten en frietjes. De frietjes kwamen 10/15 minuten na het hoofdgerecht (een plak hert) en de groenten zijn nooit op tafel gekomen. Bij de na het diner bestelde koffie geen zoetigheden (mokkaboon, koekje oid). We konden friandises kopen. Al met al een licht teleurstellende ervaring. Het menu (4 gangen) kost 80,- en is dus voor hoe het was duur te noemen. Bij reclameren gaf men aan dit niet eerder gehoord te hebben. Gezien de recensies verre van de waarheid. Jammer. Medewerkers waren jong en zeer vriendelijk.

We bezochten het arsenaal voor een lunch. Het kleinere lunchgedeelte was vol en we mochten plaatsnemen in het het restaurant. Aan een 8 persoonstafel werden voor ons 2 stoelen neergezet. Vervolgens werden we compleet vergeten. Geen begroeting door personeel. Niet de vraag of we iets wilden drinken enz. Een bizarre en teleurstellende ervaring.

In een prachtig oud klooster is dit restaurant gevestigd. We werden hartelijk ontvangen in een mooie ambiance. Gekozen voor het chefs-menu. Schot in de roos. Wat een passie en creativiteit werd hier ten toon gespreid. Daarbij hele mooie begeleidende wijnen. Afgesloten met een bijzondere limoncello uit de streek. Chapeau voor de maitre en chef kok. Helaas ligt dit niet in onze woonplaats( Maastricht). Maar we komen zeker nog eens terug. Chapeau

A bit too pretentious, but in my opinion it doesn't live up to it. Despite a comment from the staff that "as a culinary restaurant" they did not just serve dishes, and the name "creations" for courses, I actually found the food disappointing. Several dishes were not well seasoned, especially the first "creations" were a bit bland, and after four courses and bread we eventually left the restaurant hungry. We had also been dining for 3.5 hours, which in our opinion was too much time between courses and we had difficulty attracting the attention of the waiter. Partly due to what seemed to be understaffing, but what was striking was that they cleaned the table next to us but did not check to see if we wanted something to drink. Everyone recommended the cheese board, and the ambiance is nice.

We were here this afternoon to celebrate the birthday of my friend. We were with our family to have a nice afternoon. We enjoyed ourselves but that was not the merit of the service! The girl who served us our drinks etc. was[ very ] unfriendly. There was no smile at all or a thank you or a "your welcome"That is a great pity for The Arsenaal! We don't think that we would like to come here again.

Service in the coffee/lunch section was fine, but the grilled sandwich was dry and tasteless. The 1309 sandwich with camembert and marmalade could not be eaten with both hands, and the taste was not special either. Afterwards everything was covered in marmalade. Vegetable accompaniment was the same for both dishes and did not combine at all. We won't be coming back here.

Een bijzondere ervaring deze avond buiten gezeten bij een lekker avondzonnetje en in de watten gelegd door jullie fantastische keuken en vriendelijke personeel. Feest voor onze smaakpapillen en een hele ontdekking van wat er met groenten mogelijk is.

Jammer, mooie locatie. Helaas de lunchervaring was zeer teleurstellend. Twee kleine sneetjes brood, twee plakjes ham en een slablaadje voor €8,50. Wij gaan hier niet meer naar toe.

Alleen de prachtlocatie al was voor ons reden hier een keer te gaan eten, en de steurfilet in het Chefs menu gaf de doorslag. En wat hebben we genoten van de heerlijke gerechten -stuk voor stuk een lust voor het oog- en de uitgebreide toelichting op ieder ingrediënt door de vakkundige en gezellige gastheer. Wat hebben we gelachen ook, boer Ivo kan bij ons niet meer stuk 😁. Een avond die we ons nog lang zullen herinneren!

Recently living in Doesburg, we try all the restaurants here. Not knowing what the Arsenal has on the menu, we unexpectedly dropped in last night with family. A round table was immediately prepared and they provided excellent assistance throughout the evening with clear explanations of the chosen dishes. Chef Björn makes it a beautiful whole. Special dishes made from regional products are beautifully presented. Too much to explain, so just come and try it yourself and be surprised.

Very impolite and unexperienced staff ! (cafe ground floor) I walked away today because I felt soooo unwelcome and the looks thrown at me really hurt me a bit emotionally, while I just tried to be a bit helpful.. I've worked as a waitress myself more than 20 years as side jobs, also not always liking it. It was in Amsterdam and that was pretty hardcore with much higher standards compared to what I see in this area. I know how it feels, when you have a job that not really suits you. ..But to use good willing customers as a way to purge your negativity, or act like a snob, is not a good idea. I live in Doesburg and went for a coffee about 6 times in this cafe with the relatively new owners of the cafe on the ground floor. And each time I came there I felt very unwelcome, wondering what I did wrong to cause such dislike by the staff. Things like waiting for ages when there is just one other table. Being ignored, or just the vibe in general was a bit cold. And then just the usual small things ..when waiters don't have much experience .. which is ok. But I just heard from other family members that other people living here, have been having same experiences. Please hire some staff that is more friendly. Its a nice location and it seems like there is love in the products and food served.

Had a drink here on the terrace. Ordered bitter garnish, bitterballen were all cracked open. I wanted to order something at 4:50 PM but was told that it would close at 5 PM. Very hospitable!! Say that upon entering, now we were just looked away. When I made a comment about the bitterballen at checkout, the girl said: yes, I had seen that. Well, no more arsenal for us.

Very good, lovingly prepared menu with many taste surprises. Great selection of drinks to go with all courses. Very attentive service who explained every detail.

While passing through on our boat we ate at Het Arsenaal. In one word: great! The chef's menu is available in both vegetarian and fish/meat variants, extremely beautiful, special and above all delicious for the eye and mouth. Vegetables are given new impetus here through refined treatments. Just about everything is of Dutch soil and sustainable origin. The friendly staff and beautiful ambiance really complete it. In our opinion, highly recommended.

We waren verrast door het nieuwe concept. En wilde het graag uitproberen maar het viel ons ontzettend tegen. Het eten vonden wij zeer matig. Het gerecht met de wortel was zo zuur dat je de rest van de smaken niet meer kon proeven en bij het lamsvlees zat er meer vet dan vlees aan. Beide opmerkingen aangegeven bij de bediening maar daar werd lauwtjes op gereageerd. Wij gaan hier niet meer eten.

SLECHT, nooit meer!!! In het lunchlokaal van het Arsenaal 1309 mosterdsoep gegeten, nou ja 3 happen, dus niet gegeten maar laten staan. De mosterdsoep was smakeloos en waterig.

We sit alone on the terrace when the weather is nice - but smoking is still prohibited. Oh well. The 5 oysters we ordered were very tasty, pepper had to be added extra. Dining inside, interesting and ancient house; unfortunately completely spoiled by wall decorations that someone mistook for art. Completely out of place in the atmosphere. Starters are clear, bread is missing, and of course the dips that come with it. After the first bottle of Pinot Blanc, our table of four is told that this was the last bottle. Changing is recommended. Since two fellow diners ordered fillet steak, red wine is recommended - which should also apply to those who ordered the white asparagus. The fillets would not have refused another week of maturation, which would not have increased their serving weight of around 90 grams, but would hardly have harmed the consistency. Presenting them on eggplant jus is idiosyncratic. The creation of white asparagus: even more successful. A whole two (in words two) slices on....aubergine jus. How did the restaurant win a Michelin star? A mystery. After a really good espresso with a grappa, the bill: a cheerful €400. It's good that you enjoyed the grappa beforehand.

Amazing location and concept, when we visited very average and not interested service unfortunately

Beautiful place where you can relax both inside and outside. I was here for lunch and took the 12 hour. This consisted of a mini cup of mustard soup, a (half) sandwich with a homemade vegetable croquette, a (half) sandwich with ham and asparagus and a salad. The asparagus needed a poached egg. Because I'm not that crazy about that, I got an extra asparagus. Highly recommended! The whole town by the way: so beautiful!

Had a very nice lunch on the terrace today.. helped by beautiful weather, friendly waitress and a nice menu.. I remembered the delicious croquette that I ate here a year ago and yes, from the same (the chef makes them especially for the Arsenaal make..) they are still available.. I love it, the best..! My girlfriend chose mushroom croquettes, small, but also delicious... with slices of bread, salad garnish, small mustard soup and dessert of "buffalo yogurt".. all nice and tasty on this beautiful spring day... we had to cycle a bit, but then Do you also have something.. bravo, chef and service.. Had a surprise lunch with 10 people. It was a really great [vegetarian] lunch for all of us, beautifully prepared with products from the region. Very pleasant service. In short, a big compliment!!

Great in terms of appearance, service, environment and range of local entrepreneurs. I'm just afraid that after the takeover the prices for Doesburg will be very high.

Beautiful building, spacious seating area. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, perhaps somewhat formal. Delicious regional bubble as an aperitif. Vegetables in abundance - great! Of the 7 dishes in total, half of them were good - very good. Unfortunately, our main courses were less so: both the deer and the steak did not taste very good, for example the deer seemed compressed and not tender enough. No nice gravy and accompanying parts could be deeper in flavor intensity. Matching wines did not match well enough (with the successful beetroot starter, adjustment is really recommended). Spanish red Penedes is delicious and perfect with catfish (best course). Dessert (licorice fruit) excellent. The biggest profit can be achieved in meat dishes and wine matching, especially given the hefty total price.

A cheerful, very young chef works in a beautiful old monastery and prepares fantastic dishes. A spontaneous lunch visit became a culinary experience through a two-course lunch menu with beautiful appetizers beforehand. Plant-based and local, delicious and beautiful plates. We are not particularly vegetarian, but we do love vegetables, but here they use plants at a star level that it is even tastier without meat or fish.

What a beautiful location and very refined cuisine. Celebrated Valentine's Day with my wife yesterday. Bjorn and his team had put together a fantastic Valentine's menu: 4.5 courses with ingredients from the region and their own garden. Very tasty...and served with matching wines. The tables were set romantically...we had a nice evening: atmospheric, tasty, relaxed atmosphere, partly due to very pleasant service...in short, highly recommended.

The tea bag looked luxurious, but the plasticized paper of the box with ditto lid and the plastic tea bag are outdated. This can be done in a much more environmentally conscious way.

After an unplanned visit to charming Doesburg, I ended up here by Google coincidence for a drink and dinner. We couldn't have done better. Delicious food with nice matching wines. What a surprise!

High tea, consisted of: 1st course small mustard soup with dry slices of bread. 2nd course: the same fairly dry small slices of bread with brie/walnut, pureed old cheese/sun-dried tomatoes, beef sausage, egg salad and small mushroom croquette. Sweet last course consisted of a small glass with smoothie, piece of apple pie and hard dates in a chocolate coating and pieces of tomato. Not really what I expected from a high tea. (Scones/sandwiches etc.) And not for this price. There was plenty of tea and it was well replenished Nice girls in the service, nothing was too much for them. Served in the small space of the Arsenal.

The coffee lunch room-1309, 11.30 for the 2 of us and coffee with a pastry, 1.30 pm lunch platter and at 4.00 pm for the 3 of us and coffee with a pastry, tonic and non-alcoholic beer. the lunch board: Prepared at the bar with bare hands! Warmed mustard soup in an espresso cup! Regular sandwich, not the sourdough bread visible on the shelf, on the bar! It is suggested that you are served that! A regular sandwich topped with dry lettuce, on brie with walnuts, without honey, very dry!!! The other board with a super salty spread on the regular sandwich, very old cheese? also with dry lettuce! This is served without consultation, also a regular sandwich with warmed up croquette!!!! A croquette falls from the shelf and is caught by the boy serving and put back with his bare hands. Our comment about how you always handle food is shrugged off!!! At 5 p.m. one of us doesn't get a cappuccino but something indeterminate to drink and I have to ask for a lemon slice in the tonic! In short, severely insufficient is appropriate and very disappointing! This is not worthy of the Arsenal!

Mooi restaurant in fantastisch oude Arsenaal. Verrassend menu met lokale en biologische producten.

Heerlijke plek in geweldig mooi gebouw. Zeer vriendelijk personeel, eten culinair, was erg leuk en lekker om drankarrangement bij het eten te hebben. Zowel alcoholisch (voor mijn man) en niet alcoholisch voor mij pasten erg perfect bij ons diner!

Een geweldige eet-ervaring. Zoveel meer dan een gewoon restaurant. Alles met zorg samengesteld en aangekleed. Een echte beleving! Doe het 3 gangen diner en je krijgt er zoveel omheen dat het 5 gangen lijken.

Erg gezellig gegeten, bijzondere gerechten gemaakt met streekproducten. Het 5 gangen diner is echt aan te raden. Ook een bijzondere locatie.

Een buffelburger gegeten als lunch, erg lekker. De prijs voor de buffelburger is te hoog. Verder een keurige bediening. Gezellig terras.

Ik vond het eten prima, maar duur. Dan kijk ik ook meteen meer kritisch naar de kwaliteit vd service en naar de sfeer.

Heerlijk uitgebreide lunch: 5 gangen, prachtige bijzondere gerechten met ingrediënten en producten uit de streek of eigen tuin, aangename sfeer, sympathieke deskundige bediening. Super dat er zo zorgvuldig met coeliakie/glutenvrij werd omgegaan. Niet veel vaker zo lekker gegeten, dank ook namens mijn broer en 3 zussen

Te pretentieus, bediening lief, maar horeca is een vak! Anderhalf uur gewacht op hoofdgerecht, portie vlees erg klein, koud en doorbakken. Vervangen voor een normale portie, warm en redelijk gebakken. Koekje bij de koffie in cellofaan van de groothandel en achterhaald stukje zuurstok/snoepje bij de rekening. Advies: houd t simpel en leer de bediening wat hospitality is!

Heerlijk en heel verrassend gegeten. Wat een verademing om zo’n vegetarisch menu te eten. Waarbij lokale groenten en producten de hoofdrol hebben. En je de liefde voor smaken en de natuur overal in terugproeft. De gastheer had alle aandacht voor ons. Fijn! Thuis wilde ik nog even vertellen over het eten, maar kon op de website weinig terugvinden over de bijzondere ingedienten en de ervaring die je gaat krijgen. Het lijkt op het eerste gezicht een gemoedelijk eetcafé. Tip: laat zien hoe bijzonder het is wat jullie doen😀

Heerlijk eten en perfect afgestemde drankjes (wijn en sap) erbij. Alles wordt met veel zorg gemaakt en dat proef je! Echt een avondje uit.

Naast de VVV zit een multifunctioneel pand waar van alles gebeurt, ik heb er lekker in de tuin iets gedronken. Was erg prettig.

Heerlijk geluncht samen met mijn vrouw. Het eten is heerlijk en verrassend. De bediening vriendelijk en gastvrij. Helaas hadden we te weinig tijd om nog koffie te drinken, slechte planning van onze kant, dus genoten we de friandises zo. Een aanrader.

Ontzettend lekker gegeten, heel veel zorg besteed aan de gerechten en de presentatie.

Heerlijk 4 gangenmenu, met een extra amuse. Smaken allemaal top op elkaar afgestemd. Het bijpassende wijnarrangement maakt het helemaal af. Wij hebben genoten!
