Hoi Tin in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

They are well known for their bakery, especially the egg tarts, which are perfectly flaky with a rich, smooth custard filling. By around 2:00 PM, the pastry selection was quite limited, which was a bit disappointing. After picking up some pastries, I stayed for dim sum. It had been a long time since I last had dim sum here, but everything was just fine. Overall, it is worth visiting for the bakery, but arriving earlier will give you a much better selection.

It's delicious and I've been coming back many times 😙 It's a popular restaurant so I recommend making a reservation The restaurant is quite spacious but it's always full! The toilets are also very clean 😊

Would recommend their savory pastries, which cost 2.2€ each. You should come early (12-14:00) otherwise the options are all sold out. The food can be better if they are less sugary sweet

Honestly, the best restaurant in Amsterdam. Not only the food was amazing but the service is always super nice and helpful. The food is all handmade and specially the dimsums are super tasty. One of the oldest chinese restaurants in the area and you can totally tell. Ken was really polite!! Thanks

Friendly welcome, pleasant atmosphere, nicely decorated dining room. The food was plentiful and tasty, however, I don't recommend the vegetarian dumplings; they're tasteless and cost €7, lol. When we paid, we received a Chinese calendar as a gift, which was a nice touch! A decent restaurant overall.

Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. The staff was not friendly and made us feel unwelcome throughout the meal. The restaurant did not appear clean, with dirty tables and an overall lack of attention to hygiene. The food was the biggest letdown: it had an unpleasant smell and tasted far from fresh, which made it hard to enjoy the meal. When we mentioned our concerns, the response was dismissive and unprofessional. Overall, poor service, questionable food quality, and low cleanliness standards. I would not recommend this place.

Yesterday, my friend and I ate at this restaurant. It seemed that the dim sum was not fully cooked. After the meal, both my friend and I have been having diarrhea continuously, and it has lasted until now — for a full day and night. I am already severely dehydrated from the diarrhea.

It met my expectations perfectly. Anyone who loves Dim Sum won't be disappointed here! However, you should definitely make a reservation, otherwise you have little chance of getting a table. It's very easy to do online...so there's no need to call. For Dim Sum, it's best to reserve around lunchtime, as they might run out of them by evening.

Great food! We were with 6 people and got the food very fast! Delicious. The dish on the hotstone was indeed very hot and sizling. For me bit pricy but its in Amsterdam city centre so can understand.

Hoi Tin deserves better ratings! I've been there many times with my group of friends and we are always well taken care of. The food is amazing, very tasty and good portions. The service is excellent. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Very good value for money. Hoi Tin has become our go-to place for dim sum or just Chinese food in general. We will come back for sure!

Honestly one of the best chinese food place we've been too. We have been coming here almost every single month for the past 3 years as part of our "date month" 😂🙏🏼. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food is super delicious, what more do you want? Amazing jasmine tea as well, this is our go to drink to compliment our food. Highly recommend the "BSC', Sweet and Sour Chicke/Shrimp, The Duck Wrap, and Shrimp Boiled Dumplings.

The food is just... not Chinese enough. Hard to say why - maybe not enough of the glutamate, or some other umami taste, but it tastes like too much westernized. We had meat selection, pak choy, dim sums - all were cooked well, but the taste was not there. Tofu was not ideal though

Dim sums are average. Tried the sticky rice, it was acidic, it was probably expired. Don't recommend.

The food here is very good, but the price has gone up considerably. Yesterday I got two dishes for €45, including one sil yang fan, which cost €24. I still remember it costing €8.50 in the '90s.

Tried Hoi Tai for Guangdong-style dim sum, overall good. It’s within walking distance of Central Station, super convenient. We walked in as two people with no waiting time at all, even though the place was quite busy (better to make a reservation to secure your seats). Service was fast and efficient, and the staff were very attentive, clearing empty plates quickly, which I really appreciated. Food-wise: Steamed rice noodle roll with beef tasted good, and the beef was very tender, but the rice roll skin was quite thick (better for people who love soft rice noodle texture). Steamed honey BBQ pork bun (char siu bun) was nice, the filling was shredded and sweet, more like a braised pork flavor rather than classic BBQ-style cha siu. The bun skin itself was very fluffy. Steamed beef offal tasted clean with no gamey smell, but could be more flavorful; the radish was almost tasteless. The mix included tripe, beef stomach, and tendon. Steamed beef tripe (ginger & scallion) had a slight beefy smell. Steamed scallop and shrimp dumplings had a tiny bit of seafood smell as well. Salted egg yolk custard buns (lava buns) had great flowing filling. Steamed chicken feet were soft, sticky, and very well seasoned, even the peanuts were flavorful. packing fee is 0.5 euro per box. The pastry counter at the entrance worth a visit (you have to go there and make the order)! The wife cake is a must-order, and the fish floss cake is super soft and highly recommended. Sadly, the egg tarts were sold out, so I didn’t get to try them. Will probably come back again.

Probably the best in Amsterdam, delicious food and fresh produce. It's true, it's a little pricey, but everything is expensive in Amsterdam, so that's not a negative. We always come back satisfied!

I enjoy the food although I recognize it’s quite expensive for what it is. An extensive menu, everyone can find something they like. I always get fried rice because it’s my favorite and I like theirs a lot but it’s €18 which is really overpriced (it is not a ‘family/sharing’ sized portion). It doesn’t even have vegetables in it. Any fried rice (without seafood) should really be under €14. I have also noticed the portions shrink over just the last few months. They ‘don’t have’ tap water which I understand is common in NL but I will never stop hating that exploitative move, call it my crusade. But overall it is some of the best Chinese food in AMS Chinatown.

The egg yolk bun here is immaculate! Really tasty with the runny egg yolk inside. The pork bun is warming and good. The sausage and Hong Kong muffin are fine, not really impressive. Also even though there is a line when I came here but the line moved quite quick.

Waited for 20 minutes, servers didnt acknowledge us till 10mins in to ask how many people then said they will check, 10mins later they then allowed another group who came in 15mins after us (the group even stated in front of everyone that they did not have a reservation!!). So unprofessional and unorganised, so many staff working and not a single one of them looked like they knew what was going on. After us asking the staff why the other group was served before us, we got no answer and at that point, decided to leave and go to the AMAZING Korean restaurant round the corner where we were served straight away.

We came to eat completely by chance, waited ten minutes and we were really surprised, super attentive, fast and the food was excellent.

- Had an excellent Sui Kau soup. - Luckily, the Cha Siu rolls weren't sold out yet. They sell out after 1 p.m. - Never leave here disappointed. - Everything is better than at Nam Kee across the street. Even the restrooms are great. All in all, highly recommended.

First of all, the staff was very friendly and tried to help with good intentions. However, the orders were initially wrong. Then, the duck arrived cold. We asked for soy sauce three times from different staff, but it finally arrived. The restrooms were clean. The prices were very high for a traditional Chinese restaurant (I think it's because it's in the center of Amsterdam). We paid 88 euros for two. They said their dim sum was famous, but despite having tried dim sum countless times everywhere, including China, in most European capitals, and especially in London, this place fell short. We ordered one portion of Ha Kau and one portion of the famous Siu Mai. Both were terrible. We ordered tempura prawns, which weren't tempura but breadcrumbed prawns. They were also very dry. We ordered half a duck, which arrived "COLD." Yes, it arrived cold. We sent it back. This time, it arrived lukewarm, not hot. They'd microwaved the beautiful duck. We ordered choi sam from the vegetables. That was the only thing that was amazing. We had green tea with it. We paid 88 euros for all of this. We came with high expectations, but were disappointed.

Went to hoi tin on a whim, but it was crowded. Luckily the bakery part was a bit more accessible.

Got to say this is probably the best Chinese food in Amsterdam.

After 30mins of waiting to be seated, we have finally managed to get a table in the hope of getting food that never arrived. The waitress discussed my order with me after i wrote it down then claims she didnt see it written. already having waited quite a while i specifically asked for a different main that will be done faster, which unsuprisingly after almost 30 minutes nothing came! I went to inquire about where it is but the same waitresss that first took my order was a bit busy gossiping with her friend standing in front of me to even care to help. Luckily at least the refund arrives before you decide to leave

I used to really enjoy this place, but after the renovation and change in management, the food quality has dropped noticeably. The dim sum was disappointing — the char siew bun had barely any filling, just a dry spread, and the bun itself was dense instead of fluffy. The hor fun was overly salty, and at €20 per plate, it really was not worth the price. Quite a letdown compared to how good it used to be.

🔺️Poor Service and Excessive Waiting Time We visited the restaurant on 8 November 2025 for dinner and ordered 4 dim sum dishes, 1 main dish, and tea. The waitress who took our order specifically told us that the main dish would take around 20 minutes, which we accepted. However, the experience quickly went downhill. • First, our tea never arrived. We later found out the waitress had simply forgotten to enter it into the system. • Then, after waiting 30 minutes, our main dish still hadn’t come. When we asked another waiter to check, he said the dish had not been ordered because the waitress “didn’t see what we wrote.” This was clearly untrue, as she had confirmed the order and even mentioned the expected cooking time. • The waiter offered to re-order it, but we opted for a faster takeaway dish instead. We were asked to pay first, which we did— yet after another 30 minutes, nothing arrived. • When my partner tried to follow up, the same waitress ignored him and continued chatting with others. Eventually, we learned our order had been deprioritized in favor of a larger table, and we were told we’d have to wait another 10 minutes. At that point, we cancelled the order, requested a refund, and left. In the end, we received only 4 appetisers and no main dish. Although the restaurant removed the tea from the bill, that gesture did not come close to compensating for the poor service and wasted time. We left extremely dissatisfied and hope the restaurant addresses the unprofessional conduct of the staff, particularly the waitress responsible for our order.

We waited in line for a bit (45 minutes), which wasn't a problem, but the food was very disappointing. Looking at all the reviews, I can hardly believe it was this restaurant. The duck was dry, and compared to the photos I've seen here, it looked absolutely awful. It was as if it had been re-served for the fifth time; there were also a couple next to us who left their entire duck plate. The beef was also very dry and cold. Not worth repeating.

Best savoury buns in town! The little bakery serves sweet and savoury pastries such as pork buns and muffins and they're not expensive. The perfect snack.

I apologize for the situation with my wife yesterday. The accident was unfortunate and caused you inconvenience. The staff were very helpful, and I appreciate that. It was unreasonable of me to return the sandwiches for a refund. I would like to express this to the staff as well.

Whenever I'm in Amsterdam, I always come here for the Peking duck and pancakes. Always delicious. Their iced tea is also delicious.

I've had the best dim sum in ages, and they kept refilling my tea without me even having to ask. Fantastic service and amazing food! The hour-long wait was absolutely worth it. Next time, I'll definitely make a reservation, and I highly recommend that to anyone planning to eat here.

All the classic, but very bland taste.

quick dinner party of three on Sunday, no reservation but they managed to squeeze us in. Place is a lot bigger than you would think. Chose 3 different sizzling plates to share, service was busy but friendly. Food was pretty good, not spectacular but much better than any Indochinese Dutchified restaurant the Netherlands has.

I bought some bread to go this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. The barbecued pork bread was generously filled and excellent value for money. The fish floss cake was fluffy and had the flavor of childhood. The egg tarts were large and not too sweet, but they were quite oily, so you might find them a bit greasy. It's not easy to find traditional, old-fashioned bread like this in Europe. The short-haired lady at the counter was very friendly☺️

After a long journey in Europe, this is the very first Chinese meal we’re looking for. The foods were very good but we had to wait for around 10 minutes to seating. The small entrance door is chaos as there are 2 lines for the restaurant and the takeaway bakery. Once we sit in the restaurant area, we can’t order the bakery to eat at our table only takeaway.

Was scrolling through older photos and realized that I had not left a review for this place. Was here for lunch on August 29, 2025 with two other people. This review pertains to the restaurant and not the bakery. Mediocre dim sum overall. Ordered a variety of dishes, one of which was the spare ribs with black beans. The meat smelled bad. We tasted it and it had definitely gone bad. They had served spoiled meat. We sent it back. The server came back saying, "it's supposed to be like that." Wow. The nerve they had to outright lie, but I guess they were trying to cover their mistake. About 30 min later, saw another group sitting in the corner also send back the spare ribs dish. The two of us that each tried a piece of the dish had digestive issues later in the day as a result. The rest of the dishes were only just ok. Passable, but not good. Aside from the incident, the service was good. Prices are reasonable.

I went there around 5pm because I got a train at 6:30 so no reservation at that time, but the waiter was nice to give me a table. However the foods are just basic…. The siumai are good , the chicken feet basic , the xiaolongbao basic as well and there is the black beans steamed porc ribs that came in the end but it was not good…. I don’t recommend it , but for the dumplings soup is okay for the price If you expect a 10/10 , it’s just a 6.8/10 体验可以，但不太值得

The pork bun is truly amazing!! There's often a long line to pick up the rolls, but thanks to the fast service, you never have to wait long.

It was a bit messy coming in, and we had to wait 45 minutes. But the reward on our plate afterward was enormous. The flavors were delicious.

They sell Vegetarian dishes with oyster sauce, which is pescetarian. Not vegetarian..!!!

Spectacular. I never imagined I'd find a place like this in Amsterdam. I was so happy. It's hard to find a place in Spain that makes homemade baos. What a treat! There was a line, but it was truly worth it. I hope to go back because everything was delicious, at least the bakery section I got to go.

It took a while for the dishes to arrive, but everything we ate was extremely delicious. The menu is detailed and clear, also in English. Note that even the dishes that are marked as non-spicy are a little spicy. Maybe you can ask for them to be less spicy.

Rice rolls could be thinner, soy sauce was very well made and fitting. Fried thick rice noodles, vegetarian buns and pot stickers were very good.

Such an accomodating restaurant - we accidentally got the time wrong and came half an hour late and they still fit us in, also accomodating a wheel chair user and moving tables with diners around. Delicious food and great service too- thanks so much!!

The quality of food at Hai Tian is significantly lower than it was a few years ago. The barbecued pork, in particular, lacked fat and tasted rather dry, and the barbecued pork buns were incredibly dry. But the worst part was when we asked if we could split the bill, and they said it would cost an extra €1. If you're looking for a true Hong Kong restaurant atmosphere, I can't recommend this place enough.

The pastries are not warm. However, the Swiss rolls and the little sponge cakes are very moist and soft with the right amount of sweetness. The "pineapple" buns are also soft and chewy even though the "pineapple" flakes are not crispy. The "old wife" cake is ok. They open at noon but they are pretty busy. The pastries are pretty much gone at about 3 pm.

I ordered several dishes, I found crispy pork is the best I ever had in life, the crispy part was the best, it was not hard and not oily and the meat part was really tender, perfect combination and the rest was also delicious. I took some bakery back home too! The bbq bun was so good. I will go back soon for sure.

The best chinese food i've ever eaten in my life! The service was great too, a warm welcome and attention to details. But the food alone is reason enough to make me want to come back to amsterdam...

We had various dim sum and a small wonton soup. When ordering, you're given a card and pen, which you can use to choose your dim sum and portion size. The shrimp rice pancakes and the stuffed eggplant were particularly good. We received quick and attentive service. It was a bit noisy inside, making conversation difficult.

As a Cantonese I can say the bakery is amazing and authentic! It's best to come early, by afternoon egg tarts were sold out. I came around 1pm this time and everything was so freshly baked. The pork buns are full of fillings and super juicy. Egg tarts are just nice and not too sweet. Just for improvement - Bit awkward queue by the door, maybe suggestion to turn it to a takeaway window or something.

I ordered stewed egg plant salty fish pieces and minced pork in clay pot. The salty fish and minced pork are almost invisible, but that’s not the issue. The key issue is I don’t understand why Chinese cabbage, which is not indicated on the menu, was added as ingredient. It’s my very first time saw Chinese cabbage in this dish and I don’t think it’s good.

We received terrible service. We walked in and the employee gave us a look, as if we weren't supposed to be there. Instead of greeting us, she scolded my children, telling them they shouldn't be running around. My children are over 12, and she behaved very well. My children were with me the whole time, so how could they run around when they were always with me? And the food was absolutely inedible. I had a severe stomach ache after eating their food.

I've been coming here since 1981, and I've eaten there over 100 times, but it's never been this bad! I ordered a drink, and the cola was lukewarm. I asked for ice and got one ice cube, and after 10 minutes, the ice was gone.

We ordered a bit of everything from the menu and were happy with the food. The best was probably the "Cheung Fun" and the "Bamboo Spring Rolls". The other remaining dishes like the "Shanghai steamed dumplings", Jiaozi and fried rice with pork/shrimp were a bit of a disappointment. The rice had its consistency without being too hard or soft, but the taste was hard to find, because the dish was legit just a plain fried rice dish that looked like anyone could make. Besides the food, the atmosphere was unsafe. We felt stared down and watched. You could hardly enjoy each other's company without being constantly watched by the waiters. I know you want to pick up plates when they are empty, but do you have to come every time you eat the dishes?

Very good dim sum. We went on a Saturday and the place was fully booked. We wanted to change our reservation and the people of the restaurant kindly moved it and kept our table empty until we were able to come. Very sweet! The food was really good as well

The Hoi Tin of 20 years ago is gone, Cantonese dim sum has become like this. This is the worst Cantonese dim sum I've had in 10 years. The Xingzhou rice noodles jogged my memory. The rice noodle rolls were obviously overcooked. Next time I eat Cantonese, I'd better go to the UK.
