What can I say another rubbish chinese . It seems to run in Amsterdam that chinese are not that good . Poor quality and taste

And unfortunately, the food wasn't good. The Peking duck was more bone than meat, and the skin wasn't like I've had it in other restaurants. The second dish was also barely seasoned. Visually, it wasn't anything special either. However, we were there quite late – perhaps the kitchen had simply lost interest by then ;-)

I've been coming here for years, but today was very bad. Dry duck and the meat wasn't crispy. When I mentioned it, I was told it was due to the outside temperature😳 I'll be skipping this restaurant for now. There are better options in the Nieuwmarkt area.

The gentleman at the entrance was not very friendly. We chose fried rice with chicken, accompanied by a beer/Spuitgasten. The dish was dry, with frozen peas. The chicken was undercooked and tasteless. When paying the bill, I was allowed to choose the tip... I decided not to leave a tip... It had turned into a disillusioning dinner. They won't be seeing us back here again!

Of course, you shouldn't go there for atmospheric dining, but the food is very good. Yummy! Service is also top-notch. Location is great! Opposite De Waag. There are multiple locations, even at Gelderlandplein!

Use to be mine favorite rest. After this last time, I won’t go there anymore! Food is terrible now and now you get Vietnamese service. Quick order, quick finished your meal and get out!

The food is fine, and they clean everything thoroughly. The service is wonderful, but we did have to mix a bit of Dutch and English to be understood: by speaking very slowly!

Don't understand the bad ratings for this place. It's a lovely Chinese restaurant that was quite empty when we arrived. The staff are very kind and friendly, even though we arrived just after the kitchen closed (10pm I think). The portions are really big and the food is very flavourful. Some of the best beef, pork and duck I've ever had in my noodle soup. The chilli oil on the table also really adds a nice kick. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a hearty meal.

Taste-wise, I found it moderately good.

I’ve visited this restaurant several times and recommended it to a friend. During her visit, she was explicitly asked for a tip after the meal, which felt quite uncomfortable. In the Netherlands, tipping is optional, so being asked directly comes across as pushy. I hope the restaurant reconsiders this approach, as it takes away from an otherwise good experience.

SCAMMED WHEN PAYING THE BILL Nam Kee Geldersekade; you used to be able to eat really well here, but now it has become a bit of a tourist canteen. The gentleman posing as the owner is super grumpy and BE CAREFUL WHEN PAYING THE BILL; he adds 10% to the bill without asking and enters that amount into the card machine, where you are then given the option to give a 10% tip. A real scammer. We found out immediately after paying and asked for the overcharged amount back.

The Chinese restaurant where Chinese people go to eat. That says it all.

The noodle soup was exquisite! Rich flavor and generous portion. Service was good and about pricing tbh for what I get it’s not expensive. Highly recommend for sure!

Low key place, very mediocre roast duck - skin wasn’t crispy and meat was tough, likely reheated. Svc and atmosphere were ok. Restroom was adequate but didn’t smell clean.

If you're white, this place is highly recommended! The staff will greet you with insincere smiles. If you're Asian, you'll likely be met with grumpy faces and poor service from the staff.

A cozy spot for Asian food. Warm welcome and attentive service. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

The people is so rude, making the place not nice to eat

This is disheartening – both duck and pork were an assembly or scraps of inedible pieces, cartilage or corner meat. Chicken also very poor quality and sauce that had nothing tasty (even though I tried I really tried eating). The picture doesn’t show how disgusting and inedible it was. You couldn’t cut the “duck” through with a steak knife! Serious doubts on origin or quality of meat🤢 seriously doubting on whether it was truly a duck This never happens but had to throw everything in the garbage and eat plain white rice (only thing that was hard to eff up), even the mihoe noodles (paid extra for) were zero flavor ! Shocking this came out of a place like Nam Kee that had such a long history!

I ate here last week. Unfortunately, my experience was thoroughly ruined when a shorter gentleman threw sauce on my coat. What made this even more annoying was that he showed absolutely no remorse and claimed, with a bit of scrubbing, that it was “completely clean,” which clearly wasn't the case. This was very unprofessional and poorly handled. Fortunately, the situation was handled well by a taller man and a lady with long hair. They took the problem seriously and immediately offered a suitable solution by suggesting taking the coat to the dry cleaner. Their commitment and customer friendliness made up for it somewhat.

It was absolutely delicious.... It wasn't too spicy, and as a Korean, it was the best Chinese food I've had at Arms. We each had wonton soup, ordered two dishes, and two desserts, and it came to 90 euros (we were starving and ate until we were full after coming home from a hailstorm). I don't know if it was because of the harsh weather, but it was incredibly delicious. I was amazed by the stir-fried beef with honey pepper sauce. I've never had such tender beef.... I'll go back again.

Imagine making a reservation for eight people for New Year's Eve. You arrive and a rude person sends you away, saying, "We're closed, we've called, and go away." As if we're doing something wrong? No one called us.

Unfortunately, the staff showed little hospitality, with the exception of the lady with the ponytail. She was friendly, hospitable, and helped me well. Thanks to her service, the visit was still a positive one.

Last Saturday, I had dinner with a friend. The starter was disappointing, but the main course was absolutely terrible! We ordered duck, but I think it was a starved duck—little meat and nothing but bone.

We just ordered two dishes, one of which was Sui Kau soup for €24.45. The delivery driver delivered the food, but half of the soup had leaked into the bag. The delivery driver only apologized and couldn't do anything else. I then called the restaurant, and their response was to either order better next time or not order again but pick it up. Terrible service, and you also pay a plastic surcharge, so wrap it properly. This is the last time I'll order from here.

We've been coming to Nam Kee for years, about a few times a year, because we don't live in Adam. We went again today, but it was disappointing. You have to pay for the rice separately, the atmosphere is different, and they forgot a dish even though we paid for it—extremely poor service. We won't be back.

Nam Kee has been taken over by a new owner. Dishes have become much more expensive, and the quality is poor. I ordered takeout, and they didn't even give me half of my order. You can't call them, either, or they'll hang up on me. After more than 30 years, it's over for Nam Kee. Perhaps tourists are fooled into eating here, but the regulars never return.

We had a delicious, large "wontan soup." Unfortunately, they forgot to bring the white rice (and didn't ask for it again).

When it came time to pay, I paid by card. They had already added a 10% service charge themselves. When I asked them about it, they tried to pressure me. I finally told them, "Whether I pay or not is my choice. You have no right to force me to pay." The boss is a nice person, but there was a woman, I don't know if she was an employee or the boss's wife, who had a terrible attitude.

Food was good and portions were big, what I didn’t like is the waiter forcing you to tip and if you don’t they are rude with you, not a good impression to leave if you want customers to come back

The food was always super delicious and superbly Chinese. Always plenty. Times have changed. It's still good, but not quite enough anymore; you have to order a lot more to be full. The interior has been updated, although the tiles and suspended ceilings still had a distinctly Chinese feel.

I think I've been going to Nam Kee on the Nieuwmarkt for over 20 years. I hadn't been for a few months, but I was very disappointed after my visit last week. With my friend's glass of wine, it was no longer possible to get a glass of tap water, the teapot of Chinese tea has practically halved in size (and costs 4 euros!), and the dishes that used to be served on a teppan plate now charge an extra 2 euros just for that plate. So inhospitable. The food was otherwise delicious, as always, but things like this make me decide to go to a different restaurant on the Zeedijk from now on. I understand that Nam Kee has been taken over by another company. Ugh, no improvement, and such a shame!! A once-popular restaurant is being ruined.

The food is in massive portion and they are prepared for sharing plates/family-style dining. Price is upper scale, and the yummiest in the menu is the duck!! A server delivered misinformation to us that we ended up ordering more than we can eat in one seating :(

Mixed meat, NO CHICKEN (it probably flew away)🐓💨 We did get extra duck (only bone-in - little to no meat on it 🙈), but some pieces of pork and sausage. Vegetables were tasty. Old and cold 🫤 A 10% tip was added at checkout. WHY❓ (not a cent) NOT DESERVED WITH SUCH POOR AND UNFRIENDLY SERVICE. LITTLE PORTION AND ALSO TASTELESS. A real shame, we were really looking forward to it! 🚫CERTAINLY NOT RECOMMENDED 🚫 Not worth a star!!!

Nam Kee is a place I've been to often, and the food isn't too spicy and is delicious! - Koe Loh Yuk: Personally, I found the meat to be a bit tough and meaty. It wasn't too bad, though, so I enjoyed it. - Morning Glory: The portion was generous and tasty. The seasoning was a bit bland, but it was still delicious. - Dumpling Soup (shrimp & bamboo): It was delicious! However, I personally prefer the new king. The shrimp in the new king was more springy, which I personally prefer. However, this is sabasa, so you'll have to try it and decide for yourself. The service was also good. However, while I was eating, they asked me to move a table, so I moved all the food to the next table. They immediately said it was okay, which was a bit disconcerting. They were kind enough to ask and apologize, so it wasn't a problem at all. In conclusion, if you want porridge but don't want it to be too spicy, then Nam Kee is the place to go.

4 of us went for dinner here, staff took a long time to come to us and even longer for food, understandable if it was top notch but none of us enjoyed our food unfortunately, my pork did not look or taste like pork, duck was gold, attitude from staff was not warm and welcoming either, when we did not tip, he stormed off and threw our receipt on the table! Not good service or food!

The food was awful and cold. The service was awful thought it was because we were British tourists but clearly is just the way this manager carries on. The other staff were lovely but not the main guy in charge he was inpatient, rolled his eyes at us multiple times, and chucked the receipt at us. Don't waste your money here isn't worth the price AT ALL.

I wish we didn't try this place. We only went because no line and no waiting. That should have been a big red-flag. Yeah, we look like tourists but we live here but treated so rudely by the staff here! They aren't that great they can be so rude. Reminds me of the soup guy in Seinfeld. I don't recommend.

We often go to Nam Kee, Zeedijk, or Nieuwemarkt. This time we chose Nieuwemarkt because Zeedijk had a long wait. Anyway, at the top of the stairs, we met a man I'd never seen before, a very unfriendly and grumpy man. He almost pushed me off the stairs because I was standing slightly in his path, and let a group of seven people, who were far behind us, go ahead without a reservation. His cold, unfriendly attitude toward the people waiting and us made me feel so uncomfortable that we and others left. It was busy because of Sail Amsterdam, but this man is certainly not a good example of Nam Kee.

The service is terrible. Two Cantonese-speaking men and women were so careless. They asked for a bowl and said, "We are in Europe. Europeans eat with plates." I don't give a shit. It's worse than the service in Hong Kong. At the end, the POS machine wanted me to leave a tip? They are really crazy about money. Everyone, avoid it and don't come here

Generally, the food is always delicious, and the service is also good. This time, I ordered something with my husband and a friend, and all three of us got sick, so I feel like the quality is deteriorating. My husband and I have been suffering from severe food poisoning from the oysters for three days now 🦪

Didn’t get much in terms of service as they were busy. Beware they might show you the bill then without telling you, add a 10% tip for themselves when you tap the card. The other Nam Kee nearby is better, eg some of the food is cooked there and taken to this Nam Kee. The scallop was more vermicelli than scallop - not worth the price. Hot water is charged as tea.

I've been eating here over 20 years off and on, but the past few years changed to takeaway only, mostly due to the rudeness of the service but still get take away because of the convenience of this location to cycle to. Most of my friends are Chinese, you'd think they'd be nicer to them, but they seem even more rude. Often asking us for cash instead of letting us pay with PIN (Dutch debit). Unbelivable awkward thinking we are tourists. They double-charged us (charged our debit card twice when it showed it failed) and said to just 'take it up with the bank'. So rude. Never going back.

They RIP OFF your money. When I did check the bill, they said the pos machine connection to WiFi was not good, asked me to tap the second time. Later I got charged for the same amount another time. I went back next day and told them, his attitude was bad. And I did show the bank app information to him which shows it charged for two times and the only one receipt I got. Then he took a picture of bank app information without my permission. I asked why does he take the picture, his attitude become more worse. And denied they charged twice. Used to recommend to friends, honestly their food is above average. But never ever go back.

When I went to pick up my order, a "Klein four" had been made with my order; one dish had been mixed up. Unfortunately, I didn't notice this until I got home, and they couldn't be reached by phone due to the crowd. After quickly devouring a plate of nasi to satisfy my hunger, I hopped on my bike and returned with the wrong dish. When I got inside, the staff immediately knew what was wrong and apologized, after which the dish I had ordered was quickly ready. Not my first time with Kee, and definitely not the last. Always satisfied with the staff, the food, and the speed of the kitchen. They know what they're doing here!

I've known this place for years. I thought I'd eat something with the 3 of us, but unfortunately... the starter came separately for all 3... then the main course, first nassie meat, came much later, nassie cold. I said it's cold, then it takes longer again, cold meat, drama. I went to the microwave myself and heated it up MYSELF... :( and again all the dishes were separate and one started on top of the other!! Well........1 € tip was in order, too bad

€31.50 for a tjaptjoi wrapped without any aluminum foil or other kind of wrapping. As a result, half the food fell out of the container. Delivered an hour late.

The food was bland alongside with bad service. I ordered a Peking duck and it tasted far from authentic Cantonese style. I was rudely treated because I am a Chinese? How did they even dare to ask for tips? For sure I refused to give it.

It was dead quiet. Upon entering, they were already disinterested and unfriendly, but when we sat down, I knew for sure: the worst service ever. It started with asking "What do you want?" and when he brought the plates, he just piled them up. When we got our food, and then drinks later—because the gentleman hadn't even asked for them—we were waiting for our drinks. I saw the gentleman looking at us, and he said, "Go eat!" in a very annoying tone. When we left, someone said something, but she simply turned her back. When she did, I started raising my voice, but still no response. I was really upset by this situation. It's unacceptable how they treat their guests.

This place came recommended especialy for duck pancakes. So we ordered these which were good. Not the best taste ever but good. We also had fried rice, sweet & sour prawns. All the food was reasonably good. Prices are typical Amsterdam; overpriced!

One of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam! Good food, fair prices and nice service

Really good food but not cheap. We ordered heaps and pretty much finished it all but the rice tasted a little old and the duck was bony (partner didn't care but I hate that so just a personal preference). Didn't have any water or napkins so service wasn't perfect but still fine. We just don't think it should've been that expensive unless it was a super fancy restaurant. tasted like authentic Chinese though. Waiter also did try to add a 10% tip when we were already getting 200 euros worth of food..... sorryyyyy not cool

Nan Kee Food House, a popular Chinese/Cantonese restaurant on Shan De Street in Chinatown, has opened a branch on Qiao De Shi Street, across from the canal. The two stores are less than 200 meters apart, which shows how popular Nan Kee is. This time, due to other plans, I arrived before the store closed at 11:30 pm and simply ordered a bowl of wonton soup to try. The soup of this wonton soup is strong enough, and it seems to be stronger than the soup of the double noodle soup I tried at the main store a few days ago; the wontons are also better, with large size, full fillings, and chewy texture. The shrimps are also delicious and chewy. Overall, it is a bowl of satisfying wonton soup. Compared with the main store, this branch on Qiao De Shi Street is open later, especially suitable for a drink in a nearby bar and then a bowl of comfort hot food like wonton soup. This part is valuable just for its existence. Recommended.

After years of eating with pleasure and making beautiful memories with my family and colleagues, especially my sister, I considered this place a source of comfort through healthy food and the best steamed oysters in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, the new manager or team leader, God knows what his function is, was rude and impolite, and literally did not understand what his problem was. After having an unpleasant discussion with him for the second time now, I have decided not to visit this location anymore and to look elsewhere

Ordered food at Nam Kee gelderlandplein for the 2nd time. Again not good. First time mixed Meat was cold and the fried rice old and cold. Now had chicken dish and Duck pancakes. The last ones were again cold and the chicken not as in the picture few vegetables and the sauce minimal. Fried rice has not seen the wok. Was just boiled rice with omelette and spring onion stirred through. Really mega bad do not order waste of your money.

I had a great wonton soup experience in Amsterdam about 20 years ago, but I couldn’t remember which eatery it was, so I thought I’d try my luck in Nam Kee. I came in during off-peak hours, so there were just a few customers dining in. I ordered, of course, the wonton soup and a mixed roast meat rice plate. The wontons were okay – chunky and filling – but not as good as I had hoped. The rice dish, however, was a bit disappointing. The pork had a slightly off taste, and the roast duck was even gamier, with skin that wasn’t really crispy either. I ended up not finishing it. The service, at least, was fine – straightforward and efficient.

I went to the center for dinner a few times, which was great. When I heard that one was opening in South so we went and got food to take away. Very disappointing, atmosphere was okay, but they just opened, so it was a bit messy. The food, on the other hand, is way too expensive and inedible... I received burnt and old rice, not fresh and not full. I had to pay 8 euros extra per container for nasi, which is fine, but also a half-full container. The tjap tjois were largely bean sprouts and meat/shrimp were also hard to find. Conclusion, paid way too much for so little and old food, was the first and last time. I find it very scandalous that you received such worthless food for almost 100 euros, no, from now on I will go to my regular addresses.

Please note: The boss has pre-selected a 10% tip when paying. (He didn't get it.) Too bad, other than that it was good.

Was visiting from Seattle, US, and thought trying Chinese food in Amsterdam would be a fun experience. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing; Seattle actually has better options. However, the food was just okay, not terrible, but not impressive either. On top of that, the prices were pretty steep. For the same price, I could get much better food at other restaurants, not worth it in my opinion.

As an Asian, this’s tasty and pretty affordable! Way less queue than the other branch. Recommend the crispy pork and roasted pork!

The food is inedible. I have been coming here for at least 30 years. It was really thirty years of consistent high quality. Now it has completely collapsed. I recommend not to eat here, I repeat, not to avoid disappointment, it is a waste of money. There is a new owner, it is now a kind of tourist restaurant with appallingly poor quality food! Nam Kee shame on you! Even the noodles were broom salt and undercooked without cubes of meat and various vegetables, just worthless if you can't do that yourself then you simply can't cook! Not a single star!

The cuisine is excellent with a wide variety of dishes of all kinds typical of Asian cuisine. The fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce as well as the Peking duck won us over and the service was attentive and friendly. I advise going there rather early otherwise you will be strongly advised to leave the premises at 9:30 p.m.

Be careful here. Unfortunately, I had the same experience as other guests: the waiter (older man) put €315 on the pin machine while I had to pay an order of €31.50. A mistake can happen, but his reaction, only a nonchalant 'well seen', came across as very blasé. Moreover, given other reviews, this does not seem to be the first time.

I've been coming here for years, the place has gone downhill in terms of service. I've been waiting for over 50 minutes because they mistakenly gave a place to pushers first, it can happen but then when paying, they charge a higher amount and say yes that's a tip. I always give a tip but to charge that myself in the pin machine I find very disappointing. That will be going to New King from now on
