Nam Kee in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

Staff did not wash their hands before making the food at the front when we went in at a quiet time during the day, do not recommend, they can only dispute this if they have video footage on the day to show otherwise, we can state the day and time so they can provide to Google but they will not have this as we saw what we saw and instead of owning up as customers should have hygiene as their top priority when eating food at a restaurant, this is the bare minimum to do before making the food.

Well, the dishes we had were not tasty, dry tough spring rolls and a slimy sour chicken soup. And the order was then also taken incorrectly, namely wan tan soup with shrimp balls instead of the ordered pork. And when the bill came they didn't want to take the more expensive Shrimp Wan Tan soup off the bill. Hassle there and whining is a faded glory... Never again..

Not what it used to be. Almost no more vegetarian dishes and no longer flexible at all..

I want to go to Amsterdam again to try the oyster menu! All other menu items are delicious. I recommend the stir-fried bok choy.

Please go to Nam Kee Zeedijk (around the corner)!!! This Nam Kee had the worst service I've ever experienced. Lying to my face that a dish I ordered "didn't exist" even after I pointed it out on the menu. Food was served cold & only heated up in the microwave after we asked.

It may be subjective but I did not find the temperature in the restaurant pleasant, it was too cold for me.

The Peking duck was terrible. Literally the worst I have ever eaten in my life. The sliced ​​whole bones left splinters all over the plate. The meat itself was tough. The broth tasteless and oily. For 18.50 it is a very bad idea

Gorgeous food and plenty of it...great service. Plus slightly off the beaten track so you are not squashed in!! Definitely worth another visit while we are here.

We have been coming here for more than 20 years, so sad to say that the quality of the dishes has been getting worse lately, but the price is getting higher. Service here was never friendly, but that didn't matter much because the food was great and a good price. Now for the first time I wondered what are we doing here???? Unfriendly service, mediocre food, bad wine... well... just a nice memory of the past. Really a shame!

We were very disappointed. The food was really not good and the meat was still on the bone, so you didn't get much of the duck. In addition, the service was super unfriendly, seemed pretty annoyed and to top it all off, the service didn't say another word and slammed the receipt on the table because we didn't want to pay a 25% tip. There's no way I'm going there again

The waiter was very unfriendly and the food was NOT tasty and I don't even want to start talking about the condition of the toilet. Never thank you again. I can't explain this review to those who were satisfied in this restaurant.

Ordered a plate of BBQ pork, roasted pork and duck with duck pancake appetizer. The duck was not okay. Stale and old and had a weird smell. It was sickening. The soup that came with the rice plate was borderline inedible. Too much corn starch makes a horrible texture and no flavor at all. Perhaps we ordered something they’re not good at making. Please steer clear of the BBQ items and save yourself a stomachache. I do believe every restaurant has something they’re good at making. We should have done research in advance so hope this helps someone make better choices.

The staff was overwhelmed and it was difficult to place a correct order! The food was definitely one of the worse Asian places I've ever been to! When paying, the waiter also insisted on a tip, which he was no longer entitled to due to the service.

What happened to the food? Is there a new chef? I've been coming for years but the last few times the food was tasteless. The cha sui had no taste, the for nam was not cooked properly... the rest was also flat... I also think entering a 10 percent tip as standard during checkout goes too far. Please decide for yourself whether and how much I will tip.

Unfortunately, the reviews here agree with what we experienced last night. We each had a soup with noodles and duck. I also had oysters. The food was terrible, tasteless meat with bones. The noodles were quite dry and also tasteless. The staff seemed very unfriendly and bored to me. I have never tasted such bad Chinese food. We left everything after a taste and left. Never again!

I was very disappointed with my visit to this restaurant. The food was average and not particularly remarkable. However, what was really negative was the extremely poor service. The service was unfriendly and not very attentive. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant.

The food was really bad. Only the wontons were good. But the soup was tasteless and the same soup was used for every soup dish. The beef was rubbery and had a slimy coating. Therefore I would not recommend this restaurant!

This is the most awful service I’ve seen in my life. Not even mentioning the fact the I asked for a crispy chicken and received something cold and completely untasteful, but the fact the we were forced to pay the full price even though the waiter told us he will remove the dish from the bill. Also the staff is incredibly rude, so I highly recommend you to ignore this place in order not to spoil your lovely impression of Amsterdam.

Visited Nam Kee in Amsterdam and had a great dining experience. The food was authentic and flavorful, with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The service was prompt and friendly, making the meal even more enjoyable. If you're looking for delicious Chinese cuisine in Amsterdam, Nam Kee Is highly recommended.

Food was meh, soy chicken was reheated which isn’t an issue, I know what labour goes into preparing it, but it had little taste, no oomph at all and unfortunately cold still. The pork dish was way better but lacked some salt, sauce could have been so much better if there had been some more salt used. The fried dumplings were great however. Service wise it looked like anything asked for was bothering them, after saying no to drinks the expression on the face was also questionable. When asking to pay they basically forced to give a tip by only showing a menu with three tipping options prior to paying. Steer clear of this one, Wing Kee is so much better and definitely tastes/feels more traditional.

I wish I could give -10 stars. Horrible service and unbelievably terrible food. We asked for 2 glasses of ice and they forgot to bring two then they got mad at us for bothering him! The food was uncooked and very difficult to swallow and when we told them a guy was standing in front of us (while we were eating the started which was served after the main course) and fighting back with us to confess he tried that horrible food and he liked it. Do not waste your time and your money here.

The food was ok, nothing special to be honest. But then came the bill and ….€8,5 for a bottle of water of 750 ml 😶 In a country where tap water is normally served for free. Unbelievable! Never again

I showed up by myself when the restaurant was packed. The manager was so kind: he let me eat at a big table by myself. The warm tea and the yummy Singaporean noodle healed my soul on a rainy day.

Directly opposite the Buddhist temple. The Peking duck 🦆 is probably a must have. As far as I can tell, the food is authentic, as not only tourists ate there.

I've had 40,000+ meals in my life and this one might take the cake for the worst. Service is laughably bad, but I can work with that. "Fried rice" was white rice, peas, and some sort of chicken gelatin. I've never cooked Asian food in my life and would be my Mortgage that I could create something exponentially better blindfolded if you gave me 6 minutes and the same ingredients. Half our order didn't come and the goofball behind the counter kept saying "it takes a long time" but the woman next to us who came in 10 minutes after just finished her oyesters and is paying the bill. After this I ask for the check so we can get some actual food and the guy won't bring it out because even though we've been here an hour, half the order isn't ready. Ended up paying and leaving before the food came. Definitely a fun story in retrospect though. Amsterdam is amazing, lots of great food but this place is trash.

Wherever you go, you encounter discriminatory and greedy Cantonese. This is true in North America, Hong Kong, and even Europe. You encounter this kind of Cantonese (Hong Kong people). I couldn't help but roll my eyes at you when I heard some ugly Cantonese spoken on the street. By the way, the food is really terrible…

Hong Kong people don’t have to do things this way. People who speak Mandarin must be treated differently. Everyone else can take in, but we can only take out. It’s really pitiful.

I was helped to pick up the food by an elderly Chinese woman with medium long hair and glasses. While ordering, she made jokes about me and laughed at me together with a Chinese man who was preparing the meat for the restaurant. I found this very unpleasant and disrespectful!!!

We had a delicious meal again, as usual!! BUT: what a horrible new facility. We loved the white tiles and red lanterns. Now you get an instant headache from the slatted paneling. EVERYTHING moves. The food was, as always, very good and the service is always good and kind, but this new interior is so unpleasant... A huge shame and I already miss the old Nam Kee Geldersekade very much. Tip: take some paracetamol with you to prevent the drowsiness in the interior and you will enjoy a delicious meal 😊

+ Enjoyed the Cha Sieuw again. The snow peas were also delicious. + I find the staff here more common than the staff at Nam Kee Zeedijk.

Very traditional Hong Kong style food! Tofu, fired shrimp, sweet sour pork and siu mei are super delicious and highly recommended!

Celebrated Chinese New Year with family at Nam Kee. We had a delicious meal. A table full of food. Service was great! We create the atmosphere ourselves.

I went with a friend to try suggested dishes, had oysters and pork belly with rice, I also tried a bit of duck in plum sauce. We both had stomach ache after, I ended up throwing up all night.

Best meal I’ve had in Amsterdam in my 3 months. We shared the sweet and sour chicken, wan tan soup, hot and sour soup, and chicken/pork noodle soup. And we were completely busting. The chicken had the most incredible texture, velvetted perfectly. The fried rice had the nicest smoky flavour. We will be back for sure

The famous oysters of Nam Kee are a must try, always a great choice to start with. There is always a great ambiance there. It's noisy and very busy but the food is delicious. The banana fritters drizzled with caramel, and two big scoops of vanilla ice cream is simply to die for. If you like Chinese food in an unpretentious setting, than is the the place to go.

We know what to expect in Nam Kee, a real Chinese food experience, nothing more. But I've been here two times lately, and the food was really below the normal standards. My duck and flatbread wasn't warm. The beef with black pepper sauce was very bland. Same for the shrimp soup. Only exception was the wonton soup, really good!

A real people's tent. Many large groups that get along well together. It is not very atmospheric, the service is a bit surly, but you can get excellent Chinese food for a reasonable price. Reservations are not possible, unless on weekends and for groups of 6 or more, but you never have to wait long for a table, even if there are five of you.

Very nice staff, more like a home restaurant. It was very tasty and cozy to sit there with my wife. There aren't a lot of people.

You don't come here for the service and conviviality, but what I found tonight was downright rude. Food, cutlery and napkins were thrown on the table and we were then told not to ask any more questions. Terrible staff.

Beste Chinees in de regio. Hier kom je om lekker te eten en niet om lang te tafelen. Hier eten de Chinezen toeristen ook. We komen hier al 30 jaar en nemen eigenlijk altijd hetzelfde. Ha kau soep vooraf. Sil jang Fang en kuh Loe kai😋

First time at Nam Kee but won't be the last. We had oysters! Really good oysters. Oysters Nam Kee is great but the star was the spicier version. Absolutely delicious. A bit expensive at 8.50€ per oyster but they are huge and the flavour is quite unbelievable. Might be my new favorite Chinese food dish. We also had an order of the fried oysters but these roasted ones were the star of the show. We also had Peking duck noodle soup and racist pork noodle soup which were also solid options. However, the oysters were so outstanding that everything after seemed to pale in comparison and it's not fair to judge them when all I can think about is those oysters!

The oysters with black bean sauce are to die for. The better of the three kinds of oysters they serve. We also had noodle soup, which was fine but not as mind-blowing. We'll go back to try other items on the menu

Het eten is hier geweldig, authentiek denk ik. Voor de gezelligheid ga je hier niet naar toe maar als je in goed gezelschap bent maakt het ook weer niet uit hoe het er uitziet. De service was deze keer beter dan de vorige keer.

Damn it the food is just too good! The crispy duck was my favorite but everything is super good. You can tell that they put a lot of work into the food and the flavors. The servers could be a bit nicer and the wait time is a bit insane but what can you do. 10/10 Cantonese food. Run don’t walk here!

去过欧洲那么多家中餐馆，这一家是服务态度最差的，我们进店时，是一脸笑容并且向老板问好，在点菜时，首先老板是用英文询问我们的，接着我们便用英文回应，后来我询问老板could you speak Chinese,老板说yes，接着我用中文询问老板菜品，老板却用英文回复，接着我也用英文回复，老板却又用中文回复了，给人非常古怪的感觉，体验感很差，到了结账环节，是一位女士给我们结的，但她全程一言不发，刷完卡后我说了谢谢后，她也没有一点反应，你们要知道你们打的是华人招牌，请问就拿这个态度来对待同胞吗，请问是膝盖或者脊梁没有挺直嘛
