Humphrey’s Restaurant Amersfoort in Wijk 01 Stadskern

After years, I finally visited a Humphrey's branch. The menu was good, the concept unchanged. I did notice, however, that the bread beforehand has become scarce and the cotton napkins are gone.

When visiting this restaurant, I do not expect anything grand or extraordinary. I simply expect the preservation of traditional recipes. For example, carpaccio should be served according to the classic recipe — with pine nuts. The same applies to other dishes: if camembert is listed on the menu, it should be actual camembert, not a cheaper substitute. If cod fillet is ordered as a main course, it should be cod fillet, not a lower-cost replacement such as hake. For this reason, I am giving this restaurant a low rating. They were unable to do the most basic thing: ensure that the menu accurately reflects what is actually being served. The dishes offered did not correspond to what was presented on the menu.

Don't go here with a large group. The food was all tasteless, but the restaurant's atmosphere is very good.

Born and raised in Amersfoort. But never been here before. Good food, nice ambiance and warm atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Came to eat with a large group and we had a small menu we could choose from. Starters and desserts were basic but fine. Staff is polite and overall it’s a beautiful restaurant. However, the main courses were bad. The mixed grill was extremely dry, came with no vegetables at all. The fish had such a strange taste to it, and the mashed sweet potatoes tasted like speculaas + there were mustard pearls on it that definitely did not pair well with the rest of the dish. Unfortunate!

Delicious food. Friendly staff. It's a shame I waved eight times for nothing when I wanted to order. They don't look around, but rather straight ahead. Delicious food. Nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, only one restroom. Large restaurant.

If they invested as much in the food as in the decor, I'd go back! The service was fast and friendly, but the food isn't worth it.

The atmosphere and ambiance are very nice there but the main course was of very good quality but served strangely. We had fish and a mixed grill and that is exactly what we got... a dish on the plate and a portion of fries, that was it, no decoration on the plate or vegetables... fish and fries, nothing more.

Not too expensive and atmospheric

Some of us found the meat a bit tough. When they pointed this out, they were given the choice of a new portion or a free drink. Nice!

Warm welcome, good service and the price/quality of the menu is excellent.

We had dinner at Humphrey's in good company. The food was good and the service friendly. We were there on a Saturday evening and it was pleasantly busy.

Worst restaurant I've ever visited in Amersfoort, Netherlands. Food was barely OK. My friend has to send his steak back, not sure if you can call it a steak, it is the size of a meat bite. They were rushing us to leave around 9PM which is weird. I tried to order more food since the portion is so small , but the waitress says it will take 30 minutes to prepar toe, simply they want to close and get us out. We were big group like 13 people, but they don't care. I regret the 850 euros I paid.Will never be back there.

We were seated upstairs in a separate room which was a noisy room acoustically speaking.

I had exactly one hour to grab a bite to eat before a performance at the Flint theater. I passed this on to the staff and they responded fantastically. In no time I had a delicious meal, a good glass of wine and even time for dessert. So well thought out. Are you going to the theater? Come eat here beforehand. Highly recommended. Very nice dining, even though it was quite crowded the feeling was cozy. The menu provides sufficient options for meat and meatless.

We have eaten at Humphreys before but last Friday was the best time. The food was great! The service was incredibly friendly and fast. Everything went smoothly, there were enough staff (even people from the kitchen were serving and that went very well). We had a really delicious meal. Only the cauliflower salad was not to our taste.

The food was downright inadequate. We discovered a hair in the food twice, and the first time the food was not warm. Appetite quickly disappeared; the kitchen failed. On the other hand, the staff (service) was very friendly and we were helped well, even after we indicated that we were leaving because of the quality of the food. There is really nothing to complain about here. If things were to change in the kitchen, I would not rule out a new visit.

We decided to go there because the atmosphere and ambience seemed pretty and cozy. After the meal we definitely can say, this was one of the best meals we‘ve ever had. The service was really friendly and Courteous. The courses were the perfect size and fabulous. The price was very fair. We would and we are definitely coming back :)

We had the upstairs room for a family meeting. Staff were well thought out (music off, privacy) and food was delicious!

Unfortunately a lot went wrong. First of all, when we were just sitting down, the waiter dropped a glass on my daughter's foot. 2 minutes later everything fell off the tray again. our coats while drinking... after cleaning this up, they forgot to give us the drink and we were able to follow it. That was resolved with a free drink. We were seated at 6:15 PM and the appetizer finally didn't arrive until 7:30 PM! This one was fine. The main course, on the other hand, was not good. Mix grill chewy and bland. Also, a skewer with small pieces is not really what you imagine from a mixed grill, but good. The turkey oyster was fine but the red cabbage that came with it was a greasy mess and didn't even taste like it. Like a mouthful of gravy in your mouth. When we finally got dessert, it was only at 9:15 PM that they came to say that everything was gone. Half ordered something else and this was also served half finished. One no chocolate sauce and the other a burnt crème brulee. This was again inedible. It took way too long and 2 of the 3 courses were inedible. Management forgot a lot. A waste of our money because she didn't want to change anything beyond 1 round of drinks. Shame

Ate here on Saturday January 11, we were treated kindly when we entered and sat down, drinks came quickly and the staff was friendly. Starter, we had bao bun and the crispy redfish fillet, the redfish fillet was very tasty but the bao bun was very dry. Main course, we had the mixed grill and the black garlic veal skewers, with the mixed grill the steak, pork tenderloin and the black angus burger were very tasty, the chicken was unfortunately very dry and chewy. With the black garlic veal skewers it was almost raw, the taste was good, but it was not yet jumping around in the meadow. I absolutely love meat because I am very fanatical about the sports world, but I couldn't get rid of this. For dessert the Lemon curd crème brûlée and the tiramisu. The Crème brûlée was very gooey and the sugar topping was anything but crispy, with the tiramisu we initially thought it had been misunderstood as the server arrived with an oreo cheesecake, said it wasn't the right one, it came back a few seconds later that the tiramisu was gone so I got this, then he put it down and walked away. We were sitting in the middle of the restaurant and yet we were forgotten. The 2nd time ordering a drink took an extremely long time and they also forgot the cutlery a number of times, it seemed as if large groups were given priority over me who was with 1 other person, even after paying the bill we were asked if we wanted anything to drink. wanted to order while we put on our coat to go.

Maandag 30 december geweest, om nog gebruik te kunnen maken van kortingsbon 2024. Aangezien ons gewenste dessert (Lemon curd-crème brûlée – merengue sticks) niet beschikbaar was, mochten we in eerste instantie niet, maar omdat het bijna nieuwjaar was uiteindelijk wel, koffie met een likeurtj ipv een dessert, waardoor we toch nog van de kortingsbonnen gebruik konden maken. Wat schetst onze verbazing, de gerechten zijn afzonderlijk opgeteld en vervolgens de korting, Dus ipv 38,95 wat 3 gangen diner zou kosten was het 43,85 -/- de korting. Ze konden het niet anders in de kassa zetten, gaat ons niet om die paar euro maar het principe, klopt dus niet wat toegezegd was. Ook bleek het erg moeilijk een glas water bij de rose te bestellen. Eerst zouden we een hele fles moeten kopen. Uiteindelijk kwam toch nog een glas water. Bediening erg gemaakt en zakelijk, was tot zo'n 2 jaar geleden stukken beter.

Ik heb het nog nooit zo slecht ervaren. Het vlees was taai de wijn was slecht en de bediening wist niet waar ze mee bezig waren. Alles wat maar mis kon gaan ging mis. Ga hier nooit meer eten

Ate here on Saturday evening. The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere and was also pleasantly busy. Service could be better. We had to wait a very long time for our drinks and always had to 'catch' someone to order something else. However, the food came through quite quickly. The bao bun was very dry and the mixed grill was lukewarm but tasty.

Nothing to complain about but also nothing interesting. Food is okay but uninspired. Good place for a quick bite.

Brood met aïoli was heerlijk vooraf. De gefrituurde zalmrol miste een smaakje. Het was meer gefrituurde zalm met een heerlijke sla eronder. De connectie tussen beide elementen miste. Hoofdgerechten mixed grill en zeebaars. Mixed grill was een klein beetje maar heerlijk behalve de rol spek met kip deze was droog. Het gerecht met vis was de vis niet op smaak. De bijgerechten waren heerlijk. Vooral de puree en de appelcompote vielen heel erg in de smaak. Het dessert was een groot feest op een bord voor ieder wat wils maar niet echt een showstopper. Fijn was dat het eten elkaar snel opvolgde zodat je niet lang hoefte te wachten. Min puntje is dat als je wijn besteld voor bij je visgerecht je niet verwacht de wijn pas te krijgen als je je vis op hebt. Voor de rest een hele mooie zaak.

We were greeted with friendliness and conviviality. The group came in dribs and drabs. No problem, for the controls. They worked with visible pleasure, there was room for a joke and that contributed to a successful evening. Thank you!

Top restaurant with very tasty food

Na goede recensies in de krant te hebben gelezen was de onze niet geheel zoals deze helaas.., voorlopig weer even klaar om dit restaurant te bezoeken. Het was wel heel druk en zou sommige afgekoelde gerechtjes en vergeten drankjes kunnen verklaren.

Great place. A bit tight places to sit, but otherwise very good.

Eerst ervaring met een Humphreys op aanraden van een collega. Het was een positieve ervaring met een correcte prijs/kwaliteit verhouding. Ik had de scholfilets als hoofdgerecht voor mij waren die voldoende, grote eters mogen gerust de noordzeetong (14,5euro extra), overwegen. Mijn vrouw had de black garlic kalfspiesjes wat voor haar voldoende was, maar grote eters zullen meer gelukkig zijn met de mixed grill (zonder meerkost). We zullen zeker nog Humphreys bezoeken. We hadden de pech dat er naast ons een hond zat die niets in een restaurant te zoeken had. Hij was de hele avond onrustig en de eigenaars hadden geen controle over het dier. Op het einde van ons etentje werd een van ons getracteerd op een douche toen hij met zijn kop schudde. We nemen Humphreys niets kwalijk, maar hebben dit wel aan hen gemeld via mail en ontvingen een correct antwoord.

When we arrived, we were very enthusiastic and looked very nice. We were very disappointed with the food, the meal consisted of a piece of baguette with cabbage salad and two matchstick thickness mackerel. The fish that I was really looking forward to was a bit cold and tasteless. The ice cream dessert Fortunately, 🍮 was delicious. For us this was a big disappointment. Service was great.

Super nice staff very helpful. Food is diverse and delicious. A vegan menu is also available on the menu. Decor is cozy, but when it is full it can be a bit noisy. Tip: if you have a night out in the "flint", this is the perfect place to eat. You will then be there within a 3-minute walk

Gisteren 13 september 3 gangen diner genoten ter ere van ons 32 jarig huwelijk. We hebben met de familie al eerder kerst gevierd maar dan in Utrecht. Ik kan zeggen dat we aangenaam verrast waren van al het lekkers dat we kregen, Lekke mals vlees van de mixed grill, lekkere carpaccio, lekkere vis , lekkere nagerechten kortom top. Schoonzoon eet glutenvrij dus kreeg glutenvrij brood en glutenvrije gerechten van de kaart. Dus prima plek om heerlijk te genieten in deze mooie ambiance die ook nog eens super dicht bij parkeergarage de Flint ligt. Schoonzoon nam i.p.v. dessert iets te drinken en daarom werd er €4,50 in mindering gebracht op de rekening(zonder dat we dit hadden gevraagd) dus ook dat was prima in orde. We komen zeker nog een keer om ook de andere heerlijke gerechten te ontdekken, ga zo door!! Met dankbare groet, Fam, ten Boden

Ik kwam hier met mijn moeder en een vriendin voor een 3 gangen diner en het heeft mij positief verrast alles was heel mooi opgemaakt en was erg lekker

Atmosphere is good, nicely decorated. The table leg sticks out, causing you to sit uncomfortably. Food was expensive and not fresh. Pasta was dry and food was not particularly tasty. I think an average Dutch person can prepare it this way.

The staff at the table is friendly but takes a while to be served. Food is really substandard and not fresh. Apple pie really dry. The carpaccio was too cold. There are still gains to be made here. Drink was warm with ice cubes which I requested, which was doable. When I said it was warm, she laughed and said yes, ice cubes would be useful. I don't think she was really listening, she was also chatting with a friend at the bar. I won't be coming back here anytime soon.

Delicious food! Because I am a vegetarian, I think it is important that there are also dishes without meat. I enjoyed the vegetarian choices, such as filo pastry rolls and pita hummus. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Recommended!

Julie 2024. 2 pers. dinner. Beautiful location that you should be aware of because it is outside the center of A'frt and has no prestige at all. Good and spacious layout allowing for privacy. Limited card. Quality and quantity good but not special. In this beautiful ambiance you expect just a little more. To start with the clothing of the servers... that really can't be like that! It seems like young people just picked up off the street. Park somewhere in the garage. Owner asks to clarify clothing but no idea how and where. Clothing: straight from the street: jeans, loose shirt. make it something better so that you can have him/her working here.

Dit restaurant uitgezocht uit de mogelijkheden na het krijgen van een restaurantkaart, en gereserveerd voor diner samen met dochter een schoonzoon. Het parkeren is al ideaal zo dichtbij, de ambiance en inrichting erg gezellig, comfortabele stoelen. Het was vrij rustig. Vriendeleijke bediening. Erg blij dat er meerdere vega(n) keuzes zijn op de kaart, hier ook op uitgezocht. Het eten was vrij eenvoudig maar zeker lekker met een prima prijs/kwaliteitverhouding. We hadden een gezellige avond. De vijf sterren liggen dichtbij wanneer de bediening zelf attent zou zijn op lege glazen, en het uitserveren mag iets professioneler maar het geheel is zeker een aanrader.

A really nice restaurant. Staff was extremely friendly, helpful and neat. The food came at a nice pace and tasted very good. It was just enough to go home nice and stuffed. Good location, with a parking garage next to it and close to the center.

Echt een fijn restaurant. Personeel was ontzettend vriendelijk, behulpzaam en netjes. Het eten kwam op een fijn tempo na elkaar en smaakte erg goed. Het was precies genoeg om lekker gevuld naar huis te gaan. Goede locatie, met een parkeergarage ernaast en dichtbij het centrum.

Leuk restaurant met vriendelijke bediening, lekker gegeten. Voor mij was het vooral fijn dat er creatief meegedacht werd hoe er rekening kon worden gehouden met glutenintolerantie. Er werd een combinatie gemaakt uit verschillende gerechten op de menukaart, rekening houdend met wat ik lekker vind.

We eventually ended up at Humphrey's via Restaurant Gift Card. The three-course menu was well put together. Perhaps there are not enough options for vegans, but luckily we don't have to deal with that. When we arrived it took a while for the staff to speak to us, but once at the table the service was very good. So the staff came immediately when we were just sitting down with bread. Our starters and main courses were very tasty. Unfortunately, we found the desserts to be a bit less. For example, my apple pie was a bit tasteless. Due to hassle at another table, payment also took a little longer, but luckily everything went well with the gift card in the end. A great and cozy restaurant, but if desserts are really a must for you, perhaps not the best place.

We order a bottle of cava for 29 euros. They come to say there is no more. They ask for champagne to be good instead (without communicating price). Afterwards we receive the bill....79.95 euros. We felt very betrayed. Food also "large kitchen" level. Mixed-grill sufficient quantity. Spice Ramen was more like an appetizer. Really not recommended (staff was friendly and went quickly, only plus point)

We have been to Humphreys many times, but this was our first time in Amersfoort. A friendly welcome in the attractive building. We were allowed to choose our own table. We chose the top floor. The service there was also very professional and friendly. They work hard. Our dishes were excellent, as we have come to expect from Humphreys. A word of advice for those going to a performance at the Flint during the weekend: Make a reservation at 5:30 PM otherwise you might miss the start of the performance.

Food was fine, nothing special. In contrast, I thought the service was really bad. Every time we had to wait a long time for drinks, food and for the plates to be collected. Overall bad service.

We waren met 6 personen aangeschoven voor het diner. Zaak is mooi, personeel vriendelijk. Het eten was over het algemeen ook goed. Nu vraag je je misschien af: waarom dan in vredesnaam maar 1 ster?? Dat zal ik je vertellen: ik had als enige van het gezelschap het voorgerecht inktvispoffertjes genomen. Nou had ik dat maar niet gedaan. We waren een weekendje naar Amersfoort gekomen om de verjaardag van een familielid te vieren maar heb dus de hele nacht boven de wc-pot doorgebracht! Vreselijk!! Hele dag erna niets kunnen eten. Dit via het contactformulier vd website doorgegeven met het advies om misschien even te kijken naar de bereiding of het bewaren van de inktvis. Ik heb een automatische bevestiging van ontvangst gekregen waarin staat dat ze binnen enkele dagen contact zullen opnemen. Dat is inmiddels meer dan een week geleden. Doodse stilte van hun kant. Dus daarom maar 1 ster! Ik hoef geen geld of whatever terug, het gaat me erom om gewoon een reactie te krijgen op mijn mail. Het laat ze duidelijk koud en dit getuigt alleen maar van het feit dat het ze worst zal wezen wat de klant vindt. Voor ons dus nooit meer!!

We had a delicious meal here on Sunday, January 14, 2024, before we visited the Mama Mia performance in the Flint in Amersfoort. Humphrey's is just steps from this theater. I think reservations are advisable because of performances in this theater. Food was good, ambiance was good and looked cozy. Nothing to complain about the service either. A young but enthusiastic team.

Nice and cozy decorated restaurant. Service is friendly. Food is fine, not a lot of choice, but there is something for everyone. Asked to serve a starter during the others' main course, this was possible! Unfortunately, I later found out on the receipt that payment had been made for a main course! This was neatly resolved afterwards by Humphrey

Food reasonable, but 7 euros for a sloppy wine is crazy!! We're not coming anymore. We have been there at least 3 times a year for 10 years with children and supporters (10-15 people), but now we are done.

Good food, nice spontaneous service. You feel welcome and there is a good atmosphere from the staff.

Maybe because it was Christmas Eve and we were upstairs in a separate room, but instead of 3 hours we sat there for more than 4 hours with 20 people. The waiting time between the different courses was very long. Almost everyone found the food disappointing and certainly not worth the €45 (group package where an additional €15 was added for the mandatory drinks package). Service was very friendly and we did not have to pay extra for a number of drinks that were actually outside the package.

Beautiful location! Super fresh food, it took a long time, but anyway with a group of 50 people, that was to be expected. The fresh food made up for a lot. Highly recommended!

The atmosphere is nicely set up. There's nothing to complain about. Unfortunately it is different with the service. They either didn't like you or forgot the order. The 1st and 2nd courses also arrived very quickly after ordering, and that for a group of eight. The food is also very mediocre. The Italian beef stew tasted good. But I left the trifle. It tastes like a cheap dessert from the supermarket. This was not worth repeating for our group.

Bij Humphreys krijg je net genoeg op je bord maar wat er komt is ok.

Wij hadden meer verwacht. Carpaccio was prima. De fregola pasta was keihard en erg droog. Jonge bediening, wist geen antwoord op de vragen. Koffie van het huis gekregen.

Het hoofdgerecht was droog en blijkt in gesprek met vriendin ook die ervaring te hebben, best jammer. Ik had die grillsteak. Het nagerecht was goddelijk. Bediening prima! Sfeer en inrichting prachtig en akoestiek top!

Heerlijk gegeten. Vriendelijk personeel.

Eten prima, vind het allemaal net wat te prijzig, maar smaakte prima. Verder af te raden als je met een baby komt. Geen faciliteiten, maar manager dacht mee met ons voor het verschonen in een niet ideale situatie. Helaas vond een jongedame van het personeel het nodig haar afgunst te laten blijken bij haar manager, waar ik praktisch naast zat en alles kon horen. Service daarom 1 ster, rest van personeel was wel vriendelijk.

Wij kwamen onder tijdsdruk binnen en hadden niet gereserveerd maar wilden wel even eten voordat wij een lange avond ingingen. Wij hebben een hoofdgerecht en een dessert besteld en wat hebben wij heerlijk gegeten. Zelf ben ik in mijn vorige baan chefkok geweest en weet waar ik over praat. Na het eten zaten wij (te) krap in tijd, moesten vlug afrekenen en door naar onze volgende afspraak. Ik was wel verbaast over de hoogte van het bedrag maar ik heb zonder te controleren deze voldaan. Toen ik de volgende dag de nota in de administratie verwerkte zag ik dat ik de verkeerde tafel had afgerekend en heb ze hierover gebeld. Tot mijn verbazing wisten zij precies wie ik was en waar het over ging. Zij hadden dit de avond ervoor, tijdens het opmaken van de kas direct opgemerkt en konden helaas (omdat wij niet gereserveerd hadden) contact met mij op nemen. Zij hebben de terugbetaling van het teveel betaalde bedrag diezelfde dag nog in orde gemaakt. Heerlijk gegeten, prima bediening en fantastische aftersales!

The place is nice, the service is fine, but the food was not right. The bao starter was dry, the carpaccio was good but it was evident it had been plated a while ago (it was hard to get off the plate) and the mixed grill was also dry. But the salmon risotto was a complete disaster, just a pile of overcooked rice you could cut with a knife and inedible salmon. Cocktails also tasted very artificial, like kids candy. We told the staff and we were given the coffees for free… that was nice, but most of us did not want coffee…

Wij hebben echt heerlijk gegeten en de prijs kwaliteit verhouding was echt top. Wij hebben wel een actie gebruikt waardoor we wat korting hadden, maar waren dus heel tevreden. Ook hoe omgegaan wordt met allergenen is heel prettig. Kortom aanrader wat ons betreft.

Geweldig restaurant, raad het iedereen aan om daar eens te gaan eten. Snelle en vriendelijke bediening en heerlijk eten.

Voor een simpele hap even uit eten kan je prima terecht bij humphrey’s hoewel zij een ijzersterke menu kaart hebben waar je trek van krijgt, valleen de smaken zelf helaas wat tegen. Er worden eenvoudige ingrediënten gebruikt die samen zorgen voor weinig complexiteit in de gerechten, jammer want de presentatie van de gerechten verdient zeker een plus. Bediening is aardig en behulpzaam. Voor de prijs een relatief prima restaurant.

Dit pand heeft sfeer en oogt gezellig. De bediening en het eten waren goed. Prima ervaring.

Top plek lekker gegeten, goede kwaliteit, en missertje werd snel en goed opgelost. Gewoon Top 💪👍

Mwah. Ik ken Humphreys in Groningen van 30 jaar geleden. Toen was het best een aardig concept en ben er in die tijd een aantal keer geweest. Nu weer eens hier gegeten, maar dat was wel de laatste keer denk ik. Het eten is redelijk, maar qua smaak erg vlak. Borden zijn wel mooi opgemaakt. Het duurde allemaal erg lang voordat de gerechten werden geserveerd. Maar goed, dat kan door personeelstekort komen. Wij waren met een groep en er waren veel meer groepen. Dat maakte het erg lawaaierig. Dit kan een momentopname zijn en is normaal misschien anders.
