La Fontaine, Restaurant & Lunchroom in Wijk 01 Heerenveen

We were treated extremely unpleasantly. Immediately upon entering, we were greeted by a grumpy woman. Our table had to be vacated within an hour, even though there were plenty of empty tables. We left and had a delicious lunch at the restaurant, which was practically next door. The service there was very friendly.

Perfect for any occasion. Always great service, delicious food, and a cozy atmosphere. A big plus is the children's play area upstairs!

We had a light lunch here last Monday. We asked first if we could bring our little dog inside, and that was no problem. What a wonderful, atmospheric place. It's also beautifully decorated. The staff are very friendly. The food is incredibly delicious and the seating is comfortable. In short, we have nothing but praise for it.

The mustard soup was too salty, the outside of the bread was overcooked, the inside was soft, and it was impossible to cut. I had to ask for a different knife, but it wouldn't cut through. I have experience as a chef... This was a rushed sandwich, so I said something about it. I expected a new sandwich or an adjustment to the bill, but no way. I won't be going back, and my company won't be using them again.

On Tuesday evening, November 11, 2025, my wife and I went to this beautiful location in Heerenveen for dinner. We live in the same town ourselves. Excellent food, excellent service, and incredibly friendly staff who were eager to please us and all the other guests. They even opened the door for us, took our coats, and regularly asked if everything was alright, etc. In short, "excellent." Highly recommended.

Cozy atmosphere, young and inexperienced staff. The food is generous and well-presented. There's no accounting for taste; everyone has their own preferences. I'd say the taste is good. The lighting in the restrooms could be better, though, as they use a lot of dark colors. When you step inside, you really have to get used to the light and even search for the light switch.

Highly recommended, everything was good and taken care of, a compliment to the staff.

I liked it, it was cozy. We ate on the outdoor terrace on the second floor.

The food was delicious, the service was good, and the atmosphere was cozy. We had a great start to the evening; even without a reservation, we were lucky to find something. So, it's recommended to make a reservation.

It's always a shame to sit for 20 minutes and not get a lunch menu and no staff to respond. Fortunately, the neighbors at the courthouse are much faster and friendlier.

A lovely day out with my mother ended at La Fontaine. Unfortunately, I feel the need to leave a review, something I've never done for food before. Upon arrival, everything was difficult because there were no reservations. There were many empty seats, but they were already taken. (Seats were still empty when we left at 8 p.m.). It all took so long that I had to order drinks myself and ask for a menu and order, even though the restaurant wasn't even close to full. My mother's iced tea had no ice cubes and had clearly been kept outside the refrigerator; my tea glass was dirty. The satay was tasty. The €18 Caesar salad was tasty, but definitely not worth the money. For that price, you expect a well-filled salad with plenty of the aforementioned bacon and chicken. However, we had to search for it. There were plenty of greens and they were also delicious. I think the salad cost less than €5 if I had separated the ingredients. Which normally wouldn't be a problem when the salad costs around €13.50, but no, €18 is definitely not worth it. This makes me think about coming again next time.

We had one foot on the terrace and the staff was already waiting and asked what we wanted to eat. "First, let's find a spot," we said... "Well, there's still room there, there, there, there." Yeah, we saw that too... too pushy with all the options. We had intended to eat there, but we didn't feel like it.

Never again. Right at the entrance, street #, what to eat? Say, "Find a spot," and they almost decide for you; she'll just look for you. The staff was under strict supervision and briefly checked where the toilet was. The owner, "Follow me." I'd almost say, "Can you please take it out for me too?" I heard from one waitress that they're forced to be so pushy. Never again, even though the patio, etc., is in perfect condition. Sorry, big 1.

I was very disappointed with my visit. The staff wasn't friendly, and I didn't feel welcome. I ordered the Hamburger La Fontaine, but the bun was dry and the burger itself was overcooked. For a restaurant with this name and reputation, I really expected something better. It's a shame, because the atmosphere could be so much better with a warmer welcome and more attention to the quality of the food.

Just popped in for a drink. Very quick service.

The carpaccio starter was okay. Nothing special. The fish of the day was very disappointing. Full of bones, which you wouldn't expect from a fillet. The fish had no flavor. There were four uninspired asparagus spears underneath. And the fries weren't very good either (old grease). Perhaps the chef was on vacation, because the food I'd eaten there before was good. It was also pricey compared to the amount of food you received at other restaurants.

Sat on the terrace, lovely...the menu was extensive. The quantity was really good (and more).

We had a wonderful lunch here on the terrace. The food was delicious, as were the service and ambiance, but we found it truly disgusting that smoking is allowed on the terrace, meaning you enjoy your delicious lunch with a constant cloud of smoke in your nose. Therefore, fewer stars for ambiance.

Very enthusiastic and friendly service! We were warmly greeted by a young man with a close-cropped haircut, and were immediately seated and helped very well!

Worth a visit. Very fast and attentive service, farmer's schnitzel was delicious and plentiful. The strawberry-rhubarb compote was very interesting, flavored with star anise and cinnamon. Definitely worth trying.

Great restaurant. Food is tasty. Staff is nice. However, some staff members seem a bit inexperienced. We get a bread board with too few spreads and you have to fish the olives out of the oil with your hands. Not super annoying but it does indicate that they are not very sharp on these kinds of things. Nice diverse menu and enough for children. I could not find the children's corner anymore. It may have been left out after the renovation. Sufficient (paid) parking in the vicinity.

Ordered Caesar salad and the lettuce was not washed. Too bad

With my daughters-in-law I did the puzzle menu. That is really fun to do. When you solved a puzzle, you got food. That was more than enough and nicely served. Friendly service. We had a great evening!

Great experience! Both the atmosphere and the service were excellent. The food was fresh and delicious, and the presentation was very nice too. The staff were very friendly and professional. The price/quality ratio was also very good. I will definitely come back and recommend it to my friends!

This restaurant & lunchroom deserves 5 stars for its service and atmosphere. The nicest staff who serve you kindly. We came there for a drink and snacks. We would especially like to thank Jeen who, when at least 6 taxi companies proved unreachable, offered to take us back to the hotel after closing time in his beppe's car. They offer both delicious and satisfying options. 🥪🍰 The atmosphere is also very nice, you can spend time comfortably. Definitely a place you'll want to visit again! 😊

Nice place to sit. Also a place for children to play and change their clothes. Staff are friendly. The only downside I think is that not everything on the menu is available.

Delicious food! Quality was very good and the quantity was also good. Was worth the wait. I thought it was a disadvantage that with a newborn baby you have to climb over all the toys to change your child, but it's nice that they have a place including a microwave.

Service started off great and quick but once our first drinks were finished.It took some time for us to manage to reach another server to request another drink.But atmosphere was amazing and I would still visit again.

We waren met 4 personen: ik, mijn man en twee zonen om in januari 2025 onze trouwdag te vieren met een familie etentje. De jongste zoon is 27 jaar. Bij het bestellen van de drankjes bestelde mijn jongste zoon een glas wijn (Merlot). De serveerster verzocht mijn jongste zoon 27 jaar oud, tot onze verbazing, vervolgens om zijn identiteitsbewijs?!! Deze had hij echter in de auto laten liggen die 2 km verderop stond en mijn zoon gaf (terecht!) aan geen zin te hebben om deze op te halen. De serveerster hield echter voet bij stuk dat hij zijn identiteitsbewijs moest laten zien, anders kreeg hij geen alcohol ingeschonken!! Ondanks onze bezwaren en rustige uitleg was ze niet te overtuigen. Dit betekent dat deze serveerster in de veronderstelling is dat mijn zoon i.p.v. 27 jaar 10 jaar jonger is dus 17 jaar oud ???!!! Een oprechte belediging! (En dan te bedenken dat wij 1 jaar geleden in exact dezelfde samenstelling ook in dat restaurant zijn gaan eten en mijn jongste zoon (toen 26 jaar oud) wel alcohol mocht drinken en er niet om zijn identiteitsbewijs werd gevraagd). Om de feestvreugde niet verder te bederven, het was tenslotte onze trouwdag en mijn jongste zoon was helemaal uit Den Haag (waar hij werkt) gekomen, nam, hij, in godsnaam, dan maar genoegen met een colaatje om wat te drinken en hebben we nog wat gegeten maar met tegenzin. Maar dit was wel een flinke domper op de feestvreugde.... Dit is mijn zoon echt nog nooit overkomen! We zijn allen boos en teleurgesteld over de gehele gang van zaken en komen bij restaurant La Fontaine in Heerenveen dus nooit meer!!!!

Attentive, well-trained staff. Good menu. Two downsides: the hamburger could have been cooked a bit more and the dessert menu has some pretty impressive desserts (very tasty), but a lighter choice would be very welcome.

Once started with a coffee and pastry stop Left my package. Was promptly sent to my home address at no cost. Had lunch, beer and dinner. And it was fun every time.

Very cozy place. Went on a very busy Saturday. We arrived at 3:00 PM for a cup of coffee and then switched to a soft drink and finally dinner and finally left at 7:00 PM. You won't be forced out of the tent because you just want a drink and the staff is friendly with good service. Also the dinner, the dishes followed each other smoothly and were of good quality. Definitely worth repeating

A big wide area. The food portions were large and satisfying. The service is a little slow, but not at a level that would cause problems. It is preferred because it is a playground for children. Prices are normal.

Met zijn zessen wezen eten. We hebben een wandeling door de kaart gemaakt, mosterdsoep, tomatensoep, gamba’s, sticky chicken fingers als voorgerecht. Daarna vis duo, kip saté, boeren schnitzel en snoekbaars met beerenburg appelstroop jus (een aparte combinatie), bijgerechten, krieltjes, perfecte frietjes en bloemkool. Als afsluiting, koffie, thee en voor het feestvarken een toetje met “vuurwerk. Lekker gegeten, iedereen tevreden. Het zit er ook heel gezellig.

It is a very cozy tent in the center of Heerenveen. The service is very nice and the food is always delicious. Whether you go for breakfast, lunch, drinks or dinner at La Fontaine you are always in the right place! I have been coming here several times a week for 2 years and have not once been disappointed with the food or service. Tip: the La Fontaine burger is highly recommended!

Tried to make a reservation for high tea a few weeks in advance. We already had doubts as to whether it had gone well, so we added in the comments that it was for high tea and that we would like to hear otherwise. Once we arrived, it turned out that the reservation had indeed gone wrong. Very annoying, especially because the comments / special wishes are not read, "then someone probably missed it". We understand that if no preparations have been made, it cannot go ahead. But some understanding of the situation and thinking along would be kind. The employee in question simply walks away during the conversation. Unfortunately a failed birthday gift.

Kaart is al wat langer hetzelfde, maar goed. Er wordt goed rekening gehouden met allergieën. We zijn hier vaker geweest en komen zeker terug.

Nice, large and child-friendly restaurant with a playroom for children upstairs, a bit 'overhyped' because it is a room with some toys on the floor, no more, no less! Food was great, service was also fast and polite, our eldest daughter is very happy with her skipping rope as a gift from the basket! I found it via Google when I searched for 'child-friendly restaurant Heerenveen'.

Beautiful location, very nice service. In my case the only dissonance was the kitchen. The cod in the Fish & Chips turned out to be a small, tough white fish with no taste. The staff resolved it neatly, so that I can still look back with a satisfied feeling.

Vorige maand hier sinds lange tijd weer gegeten met de familie en dat viel tegen. Veel vet zowel aan het vlees als van de hoeveelheid kaas. Daar droop het vanaf waardoor het eten eronder amper te proeven was. Niets gezonds aan groen/salade. De atjar was vies. De prijs viel mee, maar gezien de kwaliteit onze laatste keer.
