Truly a beautiful restaurant, does a lot for its customers. They take allergies into account and can adapt many things. Delicious food, super quality. Beautiful ambiance, atmospheric, neat, chic, hip.

Outrageously expensive! €6 for a bottle of water. Even though the setting for the end of the European Cycling Week was nice, asking to pay extra on top of the €45 closing dinner package just for water is a bit much... Furthermore, the meal was nothing special compared to the meals the rest of the week cost €18, which included water!

Beautiful restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Very friendly staff and a very good, high-quality selection. Furthermore, their own specialty beer, 'Redbad', is a pleasant, easy-drinking option. In short: highly recommended!

We went here with family and friends for drinks and dinner on July 21st for a Diamond Wedding Anniversary celebration. We were treated very politely right from the start when making the reservation. On the day of the party, the tables were ready for the group. The staff was efficient and friendly. The food was delicious and plentiful. Thank you for the lovely and successful afternoon! The meal was nothing special. The vegetables were not fresh, and the schnitzel was a bit soggy. The vegetarian tart was lukewarm. However, it was served quickly upon request, because we had asked for it.

They had a sandwich here with pieces of meat from the tender rib; it was really delicious. Highly recommended for meat lovers. We will definitely be back.

Tropenfauna / Koningshof / Hof van de Koning; this restaurant has been around for so long and is truly an institution in Heerenveen. That is mainly due to the name (even though it keeps changing), because they certainly don't rely on the food or the service. Even though the menu looks nice, the dishes are prepared completely unimaginatively (except perhaps for the starter with crispy baked sugar bread). I had pork cheek but couldn't detect that typical mega-tenderness. It could have been a stew made from any random stewing meat. The other dishes? The sauce over the schnitzel was far too strong in flavor and overpowered everything (even hours after the meal), the base of the vegetarian savory tart was undercooked, and the side dishes (fried potatoes and green beans) were clearly microwave-heated, so not recently prepared. The children's hamburgers were tasty, but if that's what you have to rely on... The wait staff were completely clueless, so I won't even start on that. Conclusion (or more of a tip to the owners): try a little harder to do justice to this piece of Heerenveen history. You already have the name, now for the quality!

Last time we weren't helped, so we left. Today, a second chance. The most worthless draft beer, 5 fingers high; making a cocktail required looking at how it was supposed to be made only to still not get it right; the most uninterested staff I have ever seen. Never again for us. Your team is only as strong as its weakest link; from what I have noticed, the best is also the weakest.

The grilled mango salad was disappointing: the mango seemed raw rather than grilled, and I couldn’t taste either the mint or the couscous. The schnitzel was quite tough as well. On the other hand, the smoked trout tartare was excellent, and the beef cheeks were very good too. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our visit.

Lovely place to have a cup of coffee and eat. Extremely excellent service and friendliness from the people/family who run the place. Sometimes the young wait staff are a bit awkward and cold, and they could benefit from adopting more of the manager's or owner's spontaneity. I believe it will work out and that they are getting a good learning experience there. All in all, a nice place and the food is fine to good depending on what you order.

Had a delicious meal with my son; we both had the beef tenderloin, which was nice and tender, and the side dishes were good too. Definitely worth repeating.

Last week, after the Queen Juliana walking tour, I had a bite to eat here and ordered the King's Ball. Well, I certainly regretted it; 100 meters away you could have played tennis with it without the meatball falling apart. Just a ball from the microwave without any gravy. I mentioned it, and they said it would be passed on to the chef. I haven't seen anyone since. Pretty sad for a restaurant like this.

Over the past year, I have placed several business orders with Hof van de Koning, including picking up sandwiches and organizing a business meeting with dinner and audiovisual facilities. Communication is always very smooth, and they are very flexible and proactive. Very pleasant and highly recommended.

Delicious food. Excellent service, friendly people. Affordable. It's been a household name for years and is located on the old main road from Wolvega to Leeuwarden. Now tucked away behind the A32. Beautiful building. Excellent parking. The name? Oh, I always find it a shame that there seems to be some kind of "subservience" to the king (it used to be the Koningshof). I don't know why the name changed; I was invited, not booked myself.

A lovely restaurant that wasn't fully prepared for a group of 125 people. The quality was good, but due to the sheer volume, several dishes weren't warm enough. The service was excellent.

Christmas dinner 2025, satay tough and very small pieces, went back to the kitchen. Second attempt was okay. Crispy fried onions were on the menu but not included as a replacement for a bowl of prawn crackers, and frozen schnitzel???? The side dishes were also meager. Appetizers and duck breast were okay. The children's desserts were a disgrace; they didn't get what was on the menu. As a Christmas surprise, they were very surprised by 5 or 6 mini marshmallows. We reported everything on the spot, but nothing was done about it. Emails were not responded to. Once, but never again.

I've been there twice and both times had bad experiences. The first time, a friend was given something she was allergic to (which I told her beforehand), and the second time, the service was amber.

An evening at Hof van de Koning immediately feels special, especially at this time of year. The entire building was beautifully decorated for Christmas, warm, atmospheric, and meticulously cared for. That alone brings a smile to your face upon entering. During the Night Before Christmas event, we enjoyed a delicious dinner here. I chose the house-smoked salmon as a starter, and it absolutely did not disappoint. Fresh, full of flavor, and beautifully balanced. The duck was the main course, prepared perfectly. Tender, juicy, and paired with side dishes that truly elevated the experience. What was striking was the attention paid to everything. Not just the food, but also the presentation, the atmosphere, and the service. Despite the packed room, it felt relaxed and personal. No rush, just a relaxed and enjoyable meal. All in all, it was one of those evenings where you think, yes, this was just right. Hof van de Koning knows how to offer guests a complete experience. A place you'll happily return to, especially around the holidays.

We enjoy coming here, the staff is extremely friendly, spontaneous and benevolent. The food is also more than good, there is clearly a professional chef. Food was tasty. Too bad the sea bass with shrimp did not contain shrimp. It turned out that it had run out, but the kitchen had not reported anything. Nevertheless, it was tasty. Service had no idea what was on the menu and had to check everything in the kitchen. When I wanted to order a cocktail I had to spell out how it should be written and ultimately point to it on the menu to prove that this cocktail was actually on it. Service was really substandard.

It all worked out, we were able to see all the skating competitions and .... the next time we go to skating in Thialf again, we will definitely come back here for a bite to eat!

Tonight we had dinner at Hof van de Koning. The restaurant looks cozy and the staff is friendly. But I was very disappointed with the food. Not good value for money. Especially the quiche, which is 1 slice of puff pastry with some vegetables. (Without exaggeration) You can't ask €23 for this. Not worth repeating!

Have Christmas dinner delivered on Christmas Day. Have never had such bad food. All meat way overcooked. Carrots almost soup and cheap panga fillet kibbeling. All very bad. The only thing we (12 people) liked was the herb butter. More than half was left and that was not because of the quantity but because no one found it edible. Not worth 450 euros. Quantity equal to two monthly menus from the Chinese. We think chef had a bad day. So sad for my mother-in-law who took care of this. It was so furiously bad

The food and drinks were well taken care of, however.... We were having a drink with the family (16 people) and everyone unanimously agreed that the frequency of asking 'if anyone would like something to drink' should be somewhat less. can. Well, we ate here on Christmas Day, I've never had such a crazy time with it, it was always good, but now I thought it was scandalous, it was like assembly line work, taking a break between meals, there was no empty plate, next and by eating the soup was gone. cold and main course was also not warm, the fries were the same. The glass was just full of drinks and they were ready to ask if we wanted to drink something else, well, the glass is full, which is a bit of a shame, so we won't have a nice Christmas meal there again, such a shame.

Vandaag heb ik genoten van een lunch bij Hof van de Koning. De sfeer was prettig en toegankelijk. Op het moment van mijn bezoek was het rustig, waardoor ik in alle rust kon genieten van hun espresso en van "De Kening Syn Favoryt" - een heerlijke gehaktbal met smakelijk brood, gebakken spek, uitjes en pindasaus. Het restaurant is prachtig ingericht en de service was uitstekend zonder opdringerig te zijn. Mijn ervaring was zeer positief, daarom geef ik het 5 sterren.

Het eten is hier echt uitstekend, ook de borrelplank is zeker een aanrader.

Prima restaurant, wel een beetje afgelegen. Daarom misschien ook wat rustiger. Interieur ziet er mooi modern uit.

Prachtig mooie zaak met zeer vriendelijke mensen die er alles aan doen om het u comfortabel en naar het zin te maken. Zeer geschikt voor bruiloften, personeelsfeesten en meer. Aanrader !!!

Op 23 juli 2023 waren wij 50 jaar getrouwd, in plaats van de traditionele Chinees catering hebben we gekozen voor de Hof van de Koning naar aanleiding van hele goede waarderingen. We hadden gekozen voor een Frysk buffet, wat een geweldige culinaire ervaring. Een goede snelle service en levering. Echt 5 sterren waard.

Ik bestelde de lamstoof maar kreeg er koude couscous bij. Verder is het een heel gezellig restaurant.

Erg lekker broodje. Er zat rode kool op, zeer verrassend lekker!

Motortocht. Veel deelnemers. Leuke diensters, die met het schaamrood op de kaken meldden dat het gebak die ochtend (starttijd!) 'niet op tijd' was aangeleverd. Ai. Maar in de namiddag (terugkomst) was de gezamenlijke maaltijd voortreffelijk. BIJNA 5 sterren, dus ;)

Ziet er gezellig uit , sfeervol. Helaas was de kokossoep die we besteld hadden niet lekker , dus terug naar de keuken. Broodplankje genuttigd, die was lekker vers. Uiteindelijk hoefden we niets af te rekenen, daar waren we wel door verrast. Netjes opgelost.

Prima gegeten, vlees was erg goed bereid! Ruime parkeergelegenheid.

Goed gegeten en personeel was top! We vonden de schermen tussen de ronde bankjes wel smerig waar veel etensresten in ligt waar je tegenaan zit te kijken .

Zeer vriendelijk personeel voor verjaardag van onze moeder met groot gezelschap geweest. Betaling kon ook onderling verdeeld worden. Lekker gegeten in een leuk resaurant
