La Place in Rotterdam Centrum

Worst customer service experience ever. Not being a native speaker, misreading a label and then get ripped off at the cashier. "Can we change to the discount item?!?" "Not possible due to hygiene reasons ..." But all the items anyway are laying around without any proper protection and self service. First time and never again ... At least the food was not 1 star ...

Food at best was mediocre, ordered a set consisting of chicken ham sandwich and soup. Add one set of coffee with a piece of chocolate cake. Sandwich was ok, soup was like warm. Coffee was just served in paper cup, and the cake wasn’t really fresh . Lots of room for improvement.

Extremely expensive. Not worth it.

Staff was lovely, food was great and the place had many places to sit down at. Nice and cozy atmosphere!

Because of the many negative reviews, we're not going to La Place Rotterdam city center today. We'll just go to Zoeterwoude instead.

I've always found this place very warm and charming, but lately, they've made a lot of changes. The food quality has dropped significantly, they don't provide plates or forks anymore. Everything is made of paper, and you can't enjoy eating anything. The spoons have a wooden taste. There are no knives, and the paper box underneath is completely useless. So, it's not enjoyable to eat. The service is non-existent, it's a self-service system. There are no restrooms. The seats were very nice and comfortable. There were pillows. It used to have a warm atmosphere, but unfortunately, they've removed all of them.

The place itself is okay, but the hygiene was absolutely appalling. You could tell the staff were overworked and clearly didn't care much – which unfortunately affected the entire experience. The prices were completely outrageous: almost €30-35 for two snacks and two drinks. Yes, everything is expensive these days, but this place is just ridiculously overcharging. The food was a disaster. I've never had such a bad croissant, and the pumpkin soup for €5-6 was just a watery, tasteless powdered soup. The rest speaks for itself in the pictures. I was really sad that I fell for this place. You can eat a hundred times better for €20 outside in Rotterdam – sometimes even enough for three people. Here you pay €35 for two drinks and two rolls. Never again.

They have some exclusive blackboard prices for frequent customers. If you are a tourist you must consume paying more. The worst thing is they don't have toilets. It is a place that sells food and there is no place to wash your hands, there is no toilet. I don't recommend it.

My experience at La Place was very disappointing. I waited 10 minutes for a simple chocolate croissant, even though the croissants weren't even in the oven yet. During that time, I witnessed how the manager treated his colleagues and customers: dirty looks, strange hand gestures, and a rude attitude. Several customers even walked out because of the long line and the slow service. When I finally tried to cancel my order, I was told to "just get a different kind of croissant." Incomprehensible. As if that wasn't enough, I was also refunded 25 cents short, with the excuse that there was no change in the cash register. This felt deliberate and anything but customer-friendly. A manager should be a role model, but in this case, he was the very cause of poor service and dissatisfied customers. A very bad experience.

Today I walked into your store, unaware that you were already closing. However, an employee loudly announced that the store was closed. When I asked if this could be said in a more formal manner, I received no response. The employee didn't look at me, simply said "bye," and continued with his work. I found this approach unfriendly and not customer-focused. I'd like to share this with you in the hope that this will be handled more carefully in the future.

Cozy café with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Great spot to relax.

One star is still too many. Unfriendly, inedible food! Boiling vinegar "behind" the soup, that's unacceptable. We told them the soup was cold and didn't get a refund. He did warm it up briefly in the microwave, which I personally found unacceptable. The gentleman started speaking in an unfriendly tone of voice.

Wow! What a joke. Three soggy tuna sandwiches with a tuna dollop, three tomatoes, and that's it! After calling, I was treated very rudely and hung up on. I had to call back every time "because they were still looking"... see photos... this is awful.

There was an apple on the floor. A Hindustani (male) manager wearing earrings doesn't throw an apple away. He put it back with the other apples. This isn't fresh, is it? He's embarrassing the other Hindustani people. This isn't allowed under HACCP. And a real hygienic manager wouldn't do something like that, would he?

We had a great meal here and it is definitely a nice place to eat, but the crowds are a bit of a drawback

I don't even know where to begin. The sandwiches are on a tray, and you have to put them in a cardboard container yourself. But you guessed it, plenty of people don't use tongs. The staff don't use gloves when preparing food. And twice I have to ask where my sandwich is. Don't go here, people, you're getting ripped off!!!

It was quite busy, so having to wait a bit for your sandwich wasn't a problem at all. It just gets really annoying when people behind you get theirs first. It took a long time, so I asked for a refund. The cashier had to ask the manager. The manager told me they couldn't give refunds, but that I could choose something else. How ridiculous and customer-unfriendly. It was a pulled chicken BBQ sandwich. No sauce or anything, so the BBQ flavor was completely absent. I'll never be back!

Seriously... Tomato soup is tomato water. It's incredibly thin and tasteless. Looking for salt? They don't have it (they say). Only one can of pepper at the checkout. And a super greasy roll. Making soup this watery and bland takes some skill. A small bowl of soup water, a small bottle of juice, and a small pizza roll is €16. Indifferent, unmotivated staff.

There was water on the floor, you could have tripped over it, and there was no information. The service was nice.

What a horrible man works there! With his arrogant attitude. I think he doesn't belong there, incredibly rude and can't deal with customers. I hope your boss reads this and gets multiple complaints about you!!! Or already has!! I will never come here again! He thinks he sets the rules about how he should be treated as a coffee man. Free advice for you, go work in the back somewhere doing the dishes so you don't have any customer contact! And then it's about the man who worked there on Thursday morning!!@@@ We will NEVER come here again!!!

Unfortunately the name La Place gives a wrong old-fashioned feeling. Food cold, presentation in cardboard tray. Bad cardboard knife and fork. Coffee poor quality. Much too expensive for the quality price ratio. In short last visit. Very disappointed.

After paying I had to ask for a spoon. There were also no signs. An employee said just ask at the cash register. I thought it was strange because then I had to get back in line. She got me a spoon. Because they were behind the counter. The spoons are small and flat and made of wood with sharp edges. I think that's really sad. There also appeared to be no toilet for the customer in the store.

Drinking is fine, but for a place like this there should be a toilet. Have to take the children across the street to the beehive to pee. Bad thing.

Would not recommend. Spoke to 2 employees and both were incredibly unhelpful and unfriendly. Their menu is very limited. They only have a few sandwiches (baguette w/ cream cheese, focaccia w/ chicken and focaccia w/ tuna). They did not have many vegetarian options. They did not have any vegan options. They do not have a salad bar. They do not have any warm foods. You cannot order a burger, fries, pizza, wok or pasta. They do not have a bathroom. Cold drinks (including fresh juices and smoothies) are in the fridge at the back of the shop. Hot drinks can be ordered at the counter. Ordered the focaccia w/ chicken, the focaccia w/ tuna and the cinnamon roll. All 3 items were not tasty. The focaccia was hard and dry. There was onion in the chicken salad - which was unexpected. There was onion in the tuna salad and it was pickled and tasted very sweet. The cinnamon roll was tasteless. There was only a hint of cinnamon and sugar.

Really a very nice place but unfortunately coffee very watery and from a machine and not made with fresh milk. Too bad because it is really too expensive for bad coffee. But lovely seats to do schoolwork or chill. And super friendly staff. Too bad!

Bit of bare empty space. Result: hollow sounds. Unfortunately no toilet. Remarkable: the business closed earlier than usual. We received x-tra pastries and sandwiches (to take with us). Maybe it would be a good idea to take what is left to the Pauluskerk or something like that?

Had coffee while shopping. Coffee was fine. Two downsides: 1. this catering facility does not have a toilet! 2. The milk for coffee is in a jug, outside the refrigerator, in a place where other visitors are talking over it (very unhygienic).

Its located at good corner. Easy to access. However the environment is a bit dark and low energy so it can provider a brighter lighting. Foods are good on average.

Drank coffee. Not very special Flat white was too strong A big loss is a toilet. Still a great loss that Mocca More is gone. They had really tasty specialty coffees here.

In a good location, in the center of the city next to the Koopgoot, what more could you want, just pop in for a drink or something to eat between shopping, something for everyone! And it's affordable too, which is a bonus in these expensive times! But you can also end your day there, stretch your legs for a while while enjoying what their menu has to offer, and then return home satisfied! Seize that opportunity, I say!

Friendly service, clean tables and good coffee

Mid experience. Same 3 sandwiches since 25 years. Not great. Ham was ok. But the drinks from the sign outside were not there. Or they were. But the staff did not know. Until someone looked in the fridge. No toilet because they say they are a ToGo facility. But it's a large restaurant with many seats.

La place always been favorite place for a quick and easy lunch. It's a shame that so many locations have closed down.

No new fresh fruit juice will be made 2 hours before closing. Service very unfriendly and difficult to understand. They had no problem with it among themselves as they chatted more with each other to pay attention to the customer. Finally, there is no customer toilet either.

When you ask if your coffee could be sweeter, the employee tells you that this is not allowed according to their rules? I indicated that I was willing to pay because I am ordering a caramel iced coffee, so I expected an iced coffee that was sweet (I got a super dark and bitter coffee), but even if this was paid for, this was not allowed. He indicated that the syrup is being counted??? I don't know how you want to do that, counting caramel syrup... but whatever. After a normal discussion, the employee continued to say that he did not want to add milk or 1 pump of caramel syrup. Super absurd and never experienced before! Then you pay 5 euros for a coffee and it may not even taste good. Ridiculous!

Ordered 2 iced caramel lattes without the 2 toppings, when we tasted the iced lattes it tasted very bitter and barely like caramel. We asked if we could add some extra milk or caramel syrup, a young man who worked there indicated that this was not allowed/possible, not even for a fee??? By the way, we left out the 2 toppings (whipped cream and cookie crumbs), so a pump of extra caramel or a dash of milk shouldn't be a problem either. You can't even have extra milk or caramel for 4.25, even if you pay for it, it doesn't get any crazier!! What very bad service, NEVER AGAIN!

Not a friendly place! Of the la place establishments I have ever been to, this has to be the worst I have visited 1. The sandwich contains brown lettuce instead of fresh green lettuce 2. When consuming chocolate milk indoors, you simply get it in a to-go cup. I had to speak to the lady about this 3. You get a smaller sized cup than at all other locations! 4. No toilet 5. No highchairs! How? In the middle of Rotterdam with such a large branch. This must be a franchisee who saves on the most important points. They really can't stand up to the competition on Lijnbaan. Bad service, unfriendly employees and brown lettuce rolls are served here

Good food and drinks. We both had a smoothie. That was tasty. My 8 year old daughter also had a well-filled sandwich. She really liked it and ate everything. I had a lentil soup that I really liked. The Latte I drank was also ok. Typical La Place restaurant. Not spectacular, but just good. The staff was very friendly. The atmosphere otherwise was neutral. Despite the attempt at cozy decoration, it is not really cozy. Lots of concrete and very.....yes, urban. Aimed at the quick bite of modern city dwellers. My daughter likes that, she said. And....right next to Primark. What else do you want? Well, I'll tell you...a toilet. Missing from the case. Nearest toilet is across the street at Burger King. A bit of a shame because after the big smoothie and hefty latte I needed a visit to the toilet. My daughter too. But she just fluttered towards the burger joint. Nice and urban......

The sandwiches were great! But waiting until one of the 7 employees finally paid attention to the customer instead of each other should really not be possible. And finally one of the ladies who thought she was a superhero because she was wearing her apron just like them! Finally, if you want to work in a business where the staff gets all the attention and the customer does not, you have come to the right place!

It is an unpleasant takeaway counter and the coffee is not what it used to be. Hardly any room for your tray. Not the place as I knew it.

If I were in Rotterdam more often, this would be a destination if I wanted something quick to eat.

With my son in town... unfortunately they don't have high chairs here? When I heard that, I indicated that I thought this was an unchild-friendly place, and I was lectured that they were not a restaurant. Yes ma'am, it does say 'express' on the facade. You are also not allowed to go to the toilet here. I'll choose a different place for breakfast next time.

Helaas (nog) de enige La Place in het centrum van Rotterdam. Handig gelegen bij de koopgoot. Het is niet heel groot en als wij er zijn druk. Toch wordt je snel geholpen, is de sfeer gezellig en kun je vaak nog wel zitten. De kwaliteit van het eten en drinken is goed. Jammer genoeg is er geen toilet aanwezig.

Lekker gegeten en gedronken, zoals altijd bij la place. Heel behulpzaam en vriendelijk personeel. Beetje teleurstellend dat er geen toilet was waarvan gebruik gemaakt kon worden.

Goede lunchroom voor snelle hap.

Just called in on off chance. Noticed special offer of day was Dutch Apple cake, €1.50, bargin and very tasty, coffee good and in nice cups/mugs. So good review especially for pitstop and value in city centre.

Девочки делают ошибки, невнимательно слушают,приходится повторять несколько раз. Ресторан по типу самообслуживания, но есть позиции, которые продавцы несут сами. Никогда ничего не объясняют. Самому нужно догадаться, что кофе принесут, а за смузи и Фокаччей нужно идти и брать самому. Но вернусь сюда снова, так как я полюбила это место!

Dame achter de counter was niet op de hoogte van de acties, wat veel oponthoud gaf. Akoestiek heel onprettig; rumoerig, hierdoor en tafelgenoot nauwelijks te verstaan. Kip-taugé focaccia is nu met plakjes kip, niet meer met stukjes kip, wat ik minder lekker vind. De koffie was echt heel, héél slecht. Hij smaakte alsof "de pot al een paar uur op het warmhoudplaatje had gestaan". Rook ook onsmakelijk. Smoothie was prima. De prijs staat helaas niet meer in verhouding tot de kwaliteit. Gelukkig is er veel keuze aan andere restaurantjes in de omgeving.

Geweldige toko midden in de stad, een heerlijk broodje voor weinig geld.

Er zijn bijna geen la place plekken meer waar je ook nog even lekker kan zitten. Deze locatie heeft er daar bovenop ook nog een klein supermarktje in.

Hele prettige eet tent alleen weinig zit plek maar daar kan niemand wat aan doen. Het is heel lekker eten daar.

Ik hop hier vaak langs om even een koffie te halen. Personeel is enorm vriendelijk en nemen echt de tijd voor je! Koffie smaakt goed en in de zaak hangt een leuke sfeer. De studentenactie die ze met Knaek hebben werkt super en wordt altijd geaccepteerd.

Viel echt tegen. Zag er niet erg proper uit. Personeel had meer aandacht voor elkaar als voor klanten.

Geen sfeer, echt een to go zaak. Broodjes zijn oke maar niet bijzonder. In ieder geval niet het La Place idee zoals dit eerder was. Er zijn vele leukere lunch/ontbijtzaakjes in Rotterdam.

I visited here today (Jan 20th) at around 15:30 for a coffee. The lady with a nice hairstyle behind the counter+making coffee(I forgot to ask her name) has the most radiant smile! She was so kind and sweet and she was just the kind of person who has the most positive and spirited vibe which is very contagious. I was having a bit rough day but she really made my day. Thank you and much respect!
