If you order coffee with a sweetener and then have to wait 7 minutes for it, that's not very helpful for the coffee temperature. Instead of getting a sweetener, you should help other people and take orders first. Not quite right, in my opinion.

Dined with 2 people, lovely view on the terrace over the Maas. The starters were delicious and were also served quickly, but then the main course, which was delicious, took almost 1.5 hours. A bit too long and for us a reason not to return, which is a shame because price quality is top

⭐️⭐️ | Fantastic terrace, but anyone who just wants a drink doesn't seem welcome. I was at Maes 21 with my boyfriend on a very hot summer day. The location is truly beautiful – right on the Meuse River, the terrace tastefully decorated, with awnings, pleasant shade, and a great view. Truly a place where you'd love to linger. We just wanted a drink. The server came immediately, but not exactly friendly – ​​more like we were a burden. She said they were fully booked. When we said we just wanted a drink, we were hesitantly given a table – with the comment, "Okay, for a drink." It didn't feel welcome at all. More like we were unwanted guests because we didn't generate much revenue. What was particularly striking: While we were sitting there, several guests came after us – for dinner – and were warmly welcomed. Tables were arranged for them without any problems, even though there were supposedly no more free seats. Several waiters milled around, but no one ever looked back at us. I asked for an ashtray, which we never received. After that, no one came back. No questions asked, no attention. Finally, I went into the restaurant to pay. The young man was friendly and surprised that we were being ignored. As we left, the waiter gave me a half-hearted "thank you" – that was it. Conclusion: The terrace is beautiful – but if you don't feel welcome as a guest, that unfortunately doesn't help much. It seems as if only diners are truly welcome. Those who just want a drink are tolerated rather than appreciated. Two stars – for the great ambiance and the fast drink service, five. But overall, a disappointing visit.

Large and spacious terrace, also inside a lot of space, friendly service and a wide choice of food and drinks, prices are a bit on the high side, but the view of the monastery of Steyl and the ferry make up for this. We had a nice meal and drinks and enjoyed it. Ideal stop for cyclists, hikers and tourists.

Delicious food and beautifully presented. Went back after 1 year. Still a beautiful restaurant with a view over the Maas. A smoke-free terrace would be desirable for me.

Had a lovely lunch here with an old colleague. We hadn't made a reservation and were still able to get almost the last available table outside. But making a reservation is definitely recommended. The terrace slowly filled up. The service was calm and friendly and nobody had to wait long. We enjoyed a lovely lunch with a beautiful view. The stars are well deserved!

We came here as a group of nine people for dinner during the week with a reservation. We received a very friendly welcome. Although the interior was already set, we were able to enjoy the last rays of sunshine outside. We enjoyed an aperitif and small appetizers on the lovely terrace, then went inside for the main course. The food and drinks were all very good. The service was also excellent.

Nice restaurant with a large outdoor area right on the Meuse River near the ferry. The interior is very bright thanks to large glass surfaces. The food is delicious. The fish of the day – halibut – was excellent, and the spare ribs fell off the bone. Fantastic. Update 9/13/2024: The satay skewers and halibut, the dish of the day, were also very tasty. The fries are served separately and are crispy and well-seasoned. Reservations are recommended; Maes21 is busy even off-season.

We have been there firstly , and we asked which desserts and coffee is perfect for here we wanted to take advice from waiter. They said met slagroom &aardbeei dessert is so good. And we thought it will come as different style and it came like photo “disappointment” and coffees also wasn’t delicious. It was expensive and not tasty.

After cycling for a while, we stopped at Maes 21 to take a break. From the terrace you have a beautiful view of the Steijl skyline. Hahaha. You look out over the Maas with a ferry. On the other side of the Maas is a monastery and some other old buildings. We opted to have a soup. It was a delicious filled asparagus soup with egg and ham. This was served with some bread. This could have been a little more thick, but it tasted very good. The service was very friendly.

Had a very tasty meal there yesterday. The spare ribs were very well seasoned and also rich. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The space on the terrace with a view of the Meuse and the Steyl Monastery also contributed to a lovely evening. The fact that the fries weren't quite as good didn't detract from the overall experience. Luckily we had reserved a table. This is necessary on nice days.

Ordered food at 1:00 PM, an hour later still no food. When asked, the food arrived 2 minutes later. Drinks also took a very long time, partner and I both had drinks separately each time. Regardless of the fact that it was a bit busier than normal. I don't expect the food to arrive after 60 minutes.

A gem on the side of the Maas at the west side of the Steyl-Barloo river ferry. (2025: 3,20€ car + 2 pass.). Spacious sheltered terrace. Excellent friendly welcoming service. The menu offered many interesting choices, I had the mushroom pita-giros, which was so tasty. But the killer plus point was the Frites which were made fresh from real potatoes. No frozen, no packet. How rarely you find that these days. Spacious car park and from my observation very cyclist friendly.

It was quiet the evening we ate here [Monday] but the lights & ambience was very welcoming. The staff were especially welcoming and spoke perfect English. - I had the steak for mains. It was cooked to perfection. Would happily recommend it.

The restaurant is located directly on a street on the Meuse in a quiet location. The restaurant is decorated for Christmas with lots of fairy lights and a Christmas tree. The food was tasty, the portions were big enough. The price was fair. Only the drinks were a little more expensive. About €3 for 200ml. The service was top! Very nice waitresses who are also very attentive! We would definitely come back!

Location is perfect, you have to make a reservation and ultimately you have to ask where the food is, it's good, but could be a little better. However, for someone with a hearing problem it is not fun, the acoustics are not your thing. The price is also on the high side for what you get.

We were hiking here in the Netherlands and this restaurant was on the way. The food (brunch) was really good, nice service, nice place to take a break.

We had dinner here on a drizzly autumn evening. It is comfortably furnished and exudes that. There were four of us and we were given a place in the conservatory in a corner. Very noisy, although people did not make exaggerated noises, we still regularly could not hear each other because of the noise. It must be said that it was full. The staff came quickly enough to take the drinks and handed out the menus. As a starter I had the roasted tuna, something I never eat but I wanted to try it anyway. Fine in itself, beautiful color, etc. But the combination with morello cherries, yellow carrot and oyster leaf was not successful for me. We also had carpaccio, cauliflower soup and veal tartare. Excellent dishes that certainly deserved an 8 plus. The bread served with it is very minimal and the herb butter is in no way adequate. Then the main course. I had the spare ribs, very overcooked, overcooked. A bit spicy and marinated. Too bad, but that's how they are offered in many places, not bad but not worth repeating. The corn on the cob that came with it was a joke. Less than 5 cm and less in diameter than a normal one. But worst was the coleslaw. A thimble in total, too much dressing and no flavour. Come on guys, we can do better. I had read in a review that the tenderloin skewer was tough, but we assumed that was an outlier. Unfortunately, ours was tough too. So either the cook doesn't know how to cook it or it's bad meat. The latter is unlikely, so a small refresher course with a fellow chef might be an idea. The salmon from our ladies was very tasty, that can also be said. The desserts were good. The service was not having its evening. Several times they forgot to bring a drink or extra fries, several times they were at our table with something that was not for us. Final conclusion; was it worth the 50 euros per person? No. Would we go back here? Yes to a drink or lunch on the terrace in nice weather. The location is great. The above is from Friday, September 27, 2024.

This restaurant located on the Maas in Baarlo is a beautiful place. If you want to sit here, it is useful to make a reservation in advance. It is busy here every day. On the other side is Steyl, which you can easily reach by ferry.

Ate very tasty: hamburger, focaccia, Strammer Max and chicken nuggets with fries. Very friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. Children were also very welcome.

Very noisy, but otherwise a nice place. The service is friendly. The building is very tastefully decorated in an industrial style. The conservatory is wonderful, even on less sunny days.
