Old Dutch in Wijk 11 Venlo-Centrum

When you sit on the terrace, it feels just like being indoors. Nice and warm. As a result, the food is always cooked through. The downside is that iced tea becomes a bit difficult. It also smells a bit outside. That's why three stars.

We had to wait so long for the food that we almost wanted to help pay the rent.

Generally, a pretty mid experience. I’d heard a lot about the food, so perhaps I went in with higher expectations, but I wasn’t particularly impressed when I tried it for myself. The pasta was overcooked, the overall flavor profile felt a bit strange, and the tiramisu was fairly average. On the other hand, the portions were big, the espresso was actually quite nice. It’s usually a busy place, so perhaps I caught the kitchen on an off day. That said, based on my experience, I don’t see myself returning.

Nothing Gluten Free according to staff. Such a shame great location, rest of family enjoyed their food. My coffee was good.

I had a classic hamburger, fries, and salad for about €14. The bread was rock hard, there was a huge hair in the salad, and the fries were unsalted and completely tasteless. We sat down on a whim. Now I just want to warn others. My next stop: McDonald's.

We had a wonderful evening. A friendly welcome, pleasant and proactive service. For starters, an antipasto platter, highly recommended with delicious dishes. Everything was delicious, but the asparagus soup was top-notch. Afterwards, the chef's tagliatelle. A powerful flavor and a pleasant portion. Panna cotta for dessert; as a dessert lover, there could have been a bit more 😉 Highly recommended.

This is a good choice in Venlo. Try the fresh pasta tossed in the cheese wheel. It was delicious but the top dish on the menu is the shrimp appetizer. Amazing.

We stopped here while passing through Venlo. It's one of the only restaurants that offered poffertjes. These pancakes, similar to tarte flambée, are highly recommended and really fill up an empty stomach.

We ate there for the first time today. Unfortunately, we didn't like the pizza at all; even a frozen pizza would have been much better. From the very beginning, the service was very unfriendly, which unfortunately continued throughout our entire visit. Since we had a lot of leftover food, we wanted to take it with us. Although it was wrapped up, the waitress rudely threw the wrapped pizza onto our table. Very disappointing; we cannot recommend this restaurant and advise you to eat elsewhere.

Hi, I don't know if the food is good. We didn't get to try it. My husband, my small child, and I read on the menu that they serve tomato soup, which our child loves. We sat outside under umbrellas and were completely ignored. The waiters avoided us. People who arrived after us had already received their drinks, and no one even approached us. We left, it was a waste of time. I don't recommend it!

The food at Old Dutch was good, even though portions a bit small but the location is good too. Unfortunately the staff wasn’t very friendly, when we asked some questions about the food we were met with short annoyed answers. With some hospitality and friendliness this place would be really great.

Delicious Burger & Great Atmosphere! I had one of the tastiest burgers I’ve ever eaten at Old Dutch in Venlo — juicy, flavorful, and perfectly made. The staff were super friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. A great spot for anyone who loves good food. Highly recommended!

A little disrespectful unfortunately

The food was okay and homely. The burger was a bit overpriced but tasty. The service was perfectly fine.

With a fairly large group we went to eat at La Trattoria in Old Dutch and considering the weather conditions they really made the best of it. The intention was to dine outside, but the weather gods decided otherwise; hence at a large table inside and that was more than fine. The staff works really hard and thinks proactively about the order/meal and drinks. The quality of the Italian food is simply 5 stars and was served at the same time. That is already a challenge with a medium-sized group. Because we had to sit in the adjacent building 3 stars for the atmosphere, but that honestly does not detract from what you go to eat at La Trattoria for; la cucina italiana!

I've rarely had such a disappointing meal as I did at this restaurant. The burger was a disgrace: the meat was inedible, the texture rubbery, and the taste not even remotely acceptable. The burger bun was so dry that I had trouble even cutting it—let alone chewing it. It was more reminiscent of stale crispbread than a fresh bun. My wife got a pizza, which was clearly a cheap frozen pizza. The taste was abysmal, the toppings bland, the base soft and completely soggy. There was absolutely no sign of a real Italian chef, which they obviously like to boast about. When we politely pointed this out, we were fobbed off with a mixture of ignorance and evasion. Zero insight, zero interest. The only bright spot was the friendly waitress, who at least apologized for the food—but that unfortunately doesn't save anything. The only positive point: The Spezi was cold and tasted as it should. Congratulations – a soft drink was the culinary highlight of the day. Conclusion: I strongly advise everyone not to eat here. Anyone who values ​​good food should steer clear of this restaurant. A waste of time and money!

We had a drink and a special frikandel here. It tasted perfectly normal, nothing special. The service could be improved; we had to wait quite a while to order. The best part is the location, right in the heart of Venlo; it's truly top-notch. It's definitely a great place to stop for a drink.

The bun from the Double Dutch Burger was rock hard and the two paddies were tasteless and somehow had an old musty aftertaste, unfortunately inedible for my taste. There was also no sauce/dressing on the burger, another “no go” for me! The price of the burger together with a small portion of fries with mayo would have been just under €18, which would have been reasonable, but only with the appropriate quality and quantity. At least after my complaint the burger wasn't included in the bill, which was the reason for my 3 star service.

Very nice service, good food, good price

This was my first introduction to this restaurant. It was very busy and therefore had a pleasant atmosphere. An interesting menu with delicious dishes. We first had an excellent antipasto. Followed by Chef Special, the Pasta Parmigiano. Fantastic. We finished with a Crème Brulée. It was a very successful evening in every respect

Especially nice if you can sit outside

Old Dutch is a charming restaurant and café in the center of Venlo, located on the square in front of Venlo's town hall. We also ate here, and the food was delicious and everything looked beautifully presented.

They couldn't even follow up with a simple order, had to wait over half an hour for a basic pizza.

Delicious food! The truffle pasta with carpaccio is highly recommended. The tiramisu and crème brûlée are also delicious.

Nach 5 Minuten kamen andere Gäste die wurden begrüßt und wurden sofort bedient.. Da kamen auch schon die nächsten rein, genau das selbe, wurden sofort bedient?!!! Wir sind aufgestanden und gegangen.. Service was good, ambiente is nice. The food was good. Burger menu was great. Fries were perfect, crunchy but had not too much oil in it. Pizza was good minus point were bbq sauce, it was too much of it.

Had a crispy chicken burger. Was exactly as promised (cripy) and super tasty. Waiters were friendly, polite and courteous. If we are back in Venlo and not trying out new restaurants while here, we definitely will come back 😁

We ordered schnitzel. One was good, the other was still pink and not done. We then let one go back. After 10 minutes the waitress came with the same schnitzel, which still wasn't cooked through, but the breading had come off and was a little darker. We had cut the schnitzel in half beforehand so we can say 100% it was the same. When asked, they said: “We always do it like that and the schnitzel is normal too.” Absolutely cheeky, if I could I would have given 0 stars!

Today at 17.15 o’clock we came with hope to eat… but not. Nobody come, than when we catch the waitress she said thar we can not order food and need to leave a table in one hour. Awful behavior for visitors. When we can eat, can sit, why at least not stand on table “reserved” and notification “drink only”. Definitely not recommended!

We checked into the Hotel Old Dutch and had a very nice and relaxing few days. The breakfast buffet was top notch. The waitresses were very friendly and accommodating. We felt really comfortable here. The food, especially the mussels and a delicious wine, really sweetened our day with a view of the harbor entrance. The reception and the "maids" were very friendly and listened to our every wish. A week in Volendam and our accus were recharged. It wasn't the last time we'd been here, we'll 100% come back. ☺ Tot ziens ☺

Heerlijk 3 gangen gegeten. Als voorgerecht hadden we 5 kleine gerechtjes, voor ieder wat wils. Hoofdgerecht hadden we beide een pasta. Mijn ultieme favoriet waar ik regelmatig voor terug kom is de pasta met carpaccio.

I would like to leave a review of my last restaurant visit. We waited about 45 minutes for the food. We were then advised to order the same thing to make it quicker. We were five adults and six children. The portions of the salads were very small, but the bolognese and burger were okay. The waiters seemed overwhelmed.

May 17, 2024 Ordered two pizzas and I don't think I've ever had such a bad pizza as I did in Venlo at this trattoria/pizzaria. It's a shame about the tuna that once died for it. Very unfortunate. In my opinion, the place shouldn't be called trattoria and pizzaria, as it hardly corresponds to Italian cuisine! It's more of a pub with general, but not upscale Italian cuisine with a lot of fast food. French fries or other fried foods and salads can be eaten without hesitation. Everything else should be considered. From me, as an Italian, a slap in the face to the kitchen and the operator! I would like Italian cuisine to be taken off the menu because it isn't!

I've never eaten so badly. The chicken schnitzel was dripping with fat, the fries were unsalted & limp, the salad (if you can call the two rocket leaves with corn and a slice of tomato, salad) had a dressing that was way too sweet. The staff is also unfriendly. The cappuccino my friend had was more foam than coffee. I recommend everyone to go to McDonalds rather than eat here. Never again !!!

The service was rude and unfriendly. The food was not recommended. Schnitzel tasted like frozen schnitzel in the deep fryer. Burgers weren't good either, the bread was like the day before. The fries were rubbery and not much flavor. The drinks were 0.2 liters for 3 euros. I can't recommend it.

Very friendly staff who speak German. The food was very tasty and these are the best Dutch fries I've had so far. The food was also very digestible. If I come to Venlo again, I will eat here again.

Yesterday we had a delicious meal with 6 people. The waiting time for the food was a bit long, but that was more than compensated with the tastiest tagliatelli salmon I have ever eaten in a restaurant. The Old Dutch is located directly on the market square in Venlo. Here you have a beautiful view over the square and the town hall. Unfortunately we were misled by the pizza banner advertising on the house wall. After already ordering drinks, we didn't find anything with pizza on the menu. There was only a day ticket. We ordered Frikandel Special with French fries. It was OK but nothing special either. Prices are slightly higher. Normal due to the tourism situation. Parking not possible nearby. Service was very friendly. Toilets were ok.
