After we had to ask for the menu, we received it immediately. After half an hour, still no one came to take our order, not even after my husband had politely waved a few times. That is why we eventually just left. It is a real shame, because I know that you can normally eat well here, but something is not right.

We enjoyed a pleasant lunch with family here in the wooded surroundings of Glimmen Appelbergen. Paviljoen Appelbergen, in my opinion, takes you back in time for a moment. A simple menu with just tasty, simple dishes in a simple yet cozy setting. And still affordable prices. Tasty different pancakes...or a pulled pork sandwich...croquettes on bread. A fried egg. Soup of the day. A week ago, on one of the Wadden Islands, I paid double for 2 croquettes on bread. I think Paviljoen Appelbergen is a success because it has simply stayed down-to-earth. No "unnecessary slick embellishments" here. Beautiful large terrace and plenty of play space for children, whom you can keep a close eye on from the terrace. Dogs are also allowed...both inside and outside. Friendly service...occasionally a bit messy and chaotic...but here that is perfectly acceptable. Thanks for the pleasant time spent and the tasty and cozy lunch.

We had a pancake as a stop during our Pieterpad stage. We received good service and the food was good.

I used to go there as a kid. The 'Elephant Forest'. Recently new playground equipment was added; a beautiful place with just nice, simple food.

Beautifully situated in the woods; parking is free, but on busy days it is a 5-minute walk. For (small) children (up to approx. 12 years old), there is a nice playground next to a large terrace; indoors, in bad weather or during winter, there is plenty of space for people and dogs. The restaurant and service are good, and the prices are also reasonable for the simple yet fine dishes. In short, a pleasant place to stay. For enthusiasts, it is a great starting or ending point for a forest walk before or after!

The playground is great for the kids. It's also fun to organize a children's party there. The dinner menu basically consists only of fairly simple fries and pancakes. I would have given more stars if this had been a bit more extensive, e.g., more variety in pancakes or something. For this reason, I wouldn't be quick to eat there again for dinner. Getting in touch with the staff was difficult. I considered ordering nachos as a starter, but it took too long, so I just went straight for the main course.

A really nice place to sit down for a bit after a walk. The only downside is that they replaced the Italian bun on the beef platter with a cheap white bun; now it's more like a cheap snack bar burger. It would be nicer if you had a choice.

A nice place to go with your child. You can sit comfortably on the terrace while having a good view of the playground. The food is exactly what you expect from a child-friendly environment.

According to the website, they are open until 8:00 PM. We arrived just after 7:30 PM after a nice walk with the dogs. Unfortunately, the kitchen closes at 7:30 PM. After consulting with the kitchen, we were still able to enjoy a delicious pancake with beef stew made with locally brewed beer. Great location with reasonable prices. We will definitely keep coming back.

Great service, great treatment of the kids, great little playground that needs a little refreshing. This is not a place to visit for food, unless you like snack food or pancakes. They serve simple packcakes, fancy pancakes, pancakes that mimic pizza, and my favourite; a gehakte beef and onion (with or without cheese) that closely resembles a flat hamburger. The ultimate in smash burgers?? We like to come back because the children are contained, they make friends (they speak Dutch), and we don't have to do much 😅

A nice place we ended up in by chance. Our appointment was unexpectedly cancelled, so we decided to have a cup of coffee and cake in the area. The location might look a bit dated, but otherwise everything is neatly maintained. It is a fantastic place for children to play, featuring a climbing elephant, an obstacle course, and a large bouncy castle, among other things. The coffee and cake were fine. However, we did find it a pity that we were not asked again if we wanted something to drink during our stay of about an hour and a half. That is why we are giving the service three stars. Nevertheless, this is an ideal place to go with children. Even without children, it is a nice location to quietly enjoy a cup of coffee and something tasty.

Tasty pancakes. Cozy. Affordable. Nice! But those toilets are so dirty every time. Every time we come here. It really needs to be fresher and cleaner overall.

I thought I would have a nice meal with my sister-in-law, her children, and my children. The staff were running around like headless chickens and have no understanding of the hospitality industry. Taking and serving orders takes a very long time. Our order was delivered to another table and was already being eaten by other children. When that table said the order wasn't for them, they first consulted with the staff to find out who it was for. It turned out to be for us, and we were served the plates just as they were, while other people had already eaten from them and the fries had already gone lukewarm/cold. I had ordered a hamburger myself; that had cooled down too. I also wonder what the children were allowed to use to decorate their pancakes, because there was only syrup and powdered sugar on the table. I also had to ask for cutlery after all the plates were already on the table. The second round of drinks took a very long time, and when they were brought, the old bottles and glasses were not taken back. Our table of 6 was full of glassware: 12 glasses and 12 bottles. Not practical with children. The bill is quite steep as well! All in all, not recommended. Nice place to walk and play, but the hospitality sector really needs a manager who can oversee them.

We thoroughly enjoyed the well-cared-for high tea. The fresh teas were delicious. Furthermore, there were many different sweet pastries and savory snacks for everyone. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. All of us (18 people) were able to sit comfortably at a table inside, but the outdoor terrace was also large enough for a large group. The staff were efficient and the service was excellent. In summary, we are very satisfied and definitely recommend the high tea!

Tasty apple pie and good coffee. Prices are 'normal'. The pavilion is located in the middle of the 'Appèlbergen' area. There is also a walking route starting from here. Preferably come by bike.

It is wonderful that such a nice and atmospheric pavilion can finally be found right in the middle of the Qp Flickr nature reserve, at Appèlbergen. A lovely spot to end the walk together while enjoying a cup of coffee or another refreshment.

I have been stopping by at least once a week for as long as I have lived in Groningen (1961). Beautiful woods and fields and a brilliant restaurant.

Great atmosphere, nice place for children to play for a bit. Friendly staff! Food was fine. Toilets a bit outdated, but clean. We will definitely come back again.

What a nice and relaxed place to eat, also for dogs and children. The location is beautiful. The staff is extremely friendly and you feel welcome. Fast service. For me, a very special place. First, a lovely walk with the dog and kids, and then having lunch here, or getting an ice cream, or having a nice drink in the summer. Plenty of entertainment for the children too. And lots of new play equipment has been added. Just go there sometime with the dog and/or your children.

Went for a nice walk with our puppy today. Afterwards, had a cappuccino and a small apple tart with whipped cream. Very friendly staff, even came over right away. We also got to cuddle the dog for a bit. We will definitely go back here again to try the pancakes, among other things. The puppy certainly loved it; it was great and cozy, and the attention he received was even better. Top notch!

Not very enthusiastic about this place. After we placed our dinner order ourselves at the counter, it arrived quite quickly. It tasted fine, but nothing special. The place as a whole felt well-used. Even the tap handle in the sink was missing. The play areas, however, are fun and plentiful. We found the staff to be friendly. All in all, not very enthusiastic about this place.

Great place. Lovely patio and a fantastic playground for the kids. The only downside is the chavs who smoke among the kids. I would definitely create a separate smoking area to protect both parents and children from the smell of smoke on such a beautiful sunny day.

We had a lovely stop at Appelbergen. It's great that it's open so often during the week! The service is excellent. The food was excellent. And it's always a bit dark and dated, but cozy.

We had a lovely time here today on Boxing Day for a drink and a bite to eat. We were served quickly, and the staff was friendly. The drinks mix is ​​highly recommended, and the snacks are delicious! We'll definitely be back! :)

A wonderful place to relax after a walk. Simple, Nike-inspired, but good!

We were walking the third stage of the Pieterpad, and it passed by here. A welcome resting place! Because we didn't want to pause for too long (due to stiffness), we hoped everything would arrive quickly: the place was packed in this beautiful autumn weather. Just as we had said this to each other, the coffee and cake were ready, followed immediately by the pancake with bacon. What service! Ideal if you want to continue walking quickly afterwards. We highly recommend it, even though it might look a bit run-down from the outside. 🙈

The restaurant is in a beautiful location and has a nice playground. You can enjoy a simple meal and drinks here. Delicious pancakes and coffee. The atmosphere is simple. The restaurant should be mindful of not overpriced, though, because then it wouldn't fit the style. Downside: the restrooms could really use some cleaning. They were filthy, out of toilet paper, full of diaper pails, and there are no indoor toys, which I find quite annoying in bad weather.

Wonderfully relaxing. It seems like anything goes, which makes it a wonderful, relaxing place with very pleasant service in a beautiful setting. Also visit the war memorial to experience our freedom. Freedom is not something to be taken for granted.

Unfortunately, the staff forgot our order, resulting in a long wait before we received our food. It happens occasionally, of course, but despite the six-person staff, no one noticed our table was empty. It was also very noisy because of the many children. A good location for (grand)parents with (grand)children. But for us, it was a bit much. The service was very friendly, though.

The terrace has a lovely atmosphere with children playing in the playground. It's recently been nicely renovated, and the bouncy castle is a hit with the kids! And afterward, a delicious soft-serve ice cream!

The price/quality ratio was disappointing. The plain pancake was the standout. Furthermore, the surroundings are beautiful for walking and letting the children play.

The location is fantastic and a really nice place to take a break during a long hike. Unfortunately, the hut is bare and lacks atmosphere, and the staff are young and inexperienced, lacking any overview. I had to get up, but I walked over to them (they were lingering at the bar) and asked them to order something. The kitchen did produce some really nice dishes, though! 😀

It's always pleasant to sit here after a walk in the woods. There's also a playground for children, so don't go there looking for peace and quiet on the weekend. It's quiet during the week.

Here they serve coffee and apple pie, with real whipped cream. The real whipped cream is a testament to their passion for the hospitality industry and the quality—no aerosol whipped cream or rushed coffee. It was delicious! We enjoyed coffee here with a large group (and apple pie) and, after a lovely walk through Appelbergen, had lunch: delicious soup, sandwiches, salad, and pancakes for the kids. It was fantastic! Everything was perfect, everything was excellent. Thanks and a huge compliment to the staff, who kept their cool despite the crowd. We will definitely be back.

I've been coming to Appelbergen since I was a child. It's always a wonderful place to walk in the woods and then enjoy a pancake, hamburger, or spare ribs. Always cozy and delicious!

The terrace has a somewhat outdated playground, but it's fine for a quick play. Beautiful location. However, the pancakes leave a lot to be desired. The service was mediocre to reasonable, but we couldn't ask the waitresses for further explanation of certain items on the menu. She kept repeating that she didn't know anything and didn't bother to ask colleagues or anyone in the kitchen. The waitresses are far too young and inexperienced; they need proper training or, at the very least, someone over 30 who knows how to interact with people. I wouldn't go there again.

Unprofessional and misleading behavior from management. When I pointed out that something had gone wrong with my order, the young staff member went to inquire. Meanwhile, I saw the owner standing by the window. A little later, the young woman returned to say that she "couldn't adjust the receipt because the owner wasn't there." At that moment, it became clear that she was lying on his behalf, even though he was literally in the picture. When I pointed this out to her, she didn't respond. I don't blame her; she seems controlled and at the mercy of instructions that put her in an impossible position. It's precisely the owner's behavior that bothers me: hiding behind your staff, lying instead of solving the problem, and using young people as a shield from responsibility. A company should demonstrate its maturity at times like these. That didn't happen here at all.

Unfortunately an unexpectedly disappointing experience. Particularly because we ordered fries with croquette and a “ham sandwich” was forced upon us because “that's what it said on the receipt”. Well, we don't write that receipt, do we? Finally I tried to eat it anyway because in the meantime everyone at the table had their food. It's possible to make a mistake, I thought, especially when it's so busy. Then just a sandwich. If only I hadn't done that... I have honestly never eaten such a sad “toasted sandwich”. I always put cheese on it, but they literally call it “toasted ham”. I always bake a sandwich myself. This has barely touched a pan, maybe a few seconds in a sandwich maker or something. I wouldn't dare serve this with a dry eye and ask money for it. But the most surprising thing was that when paying, people wanted to be paid for fries and croquettes, because that's what it said on the receipt. Whole discussion, chased with the paperwork... eventually it became clear that there was no fries with croquette served, but the “toasted ham” and that I almost choked on it due to the dryness. Well, that was taken off the bill and it was fine 🤷‍♂️ Also waited a long time and had to run after the waiter because they had only taken half of the table's order. I understand that it is busy and that you sometimes have to work with young (perhaps new) people, but let someone with experience keep an overview. Extra star for the beautiful surroundings! From now on you might want to bring a picnic basket yourself.

The atmosphere is a bit lacking, because of the tiled floor and perhaps it could be decorated more nicely with lights, etc.? We had to wait a long time, but it was also busy. People nice. No dessert option, at most soft ice cream.

Geweldige speeltuin voor de kinderen, prachtige locatie met heerlijke (glutenvrije) pannenkoeken. Lief persoon die met je meedenkt. We komen er graag. Gebouw binnen is verouderd, maar we genieten vooral ook van buiten.
