The atmosphere, food, and service were very good. The only thing I didn't like was that our table was next to the door, and it was cold when someone came in or out.

Yesterday we had dinner at Plato Loco, a Caribbean restaurant with truly delicious food. Everything was fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. We ordered the jerk chicken, oxtail stew, and spareribs, all rich in authentic Caribbean spices. A special compliment for the empanada….absolutely flawless. The service was also excellent. We were there with a baby, and even the high chair was just right. Overall, a lovely restaurant in a beautiful location.

All good, very tasty. A bit pricy but within Amsterdam standards. However, they played the "oh they are tourists, let's bring them a bottle of water and charge them like crazy" card. Well, we are not tourists. And 7€ for a bottle of water when we are already paying ~25€ per plate is simply insulting.

The restaurant was recommended to me and completely met our expectations. We had a comfortable seat for two in the back corner. The lady serving us was very friendly and we felt very comfortable. Ordering and the delivery of our food and drinks were incredibly quick. The food was delicious, especially the ribs and jerk chicken. It was perfectly seasoned and simply juicy. The portion was perfect for me, but my boyfriend could have done with a bit more. Otherwise, it was perfect; a very cozy atmosphere and the restrooms were very clean.

It started as my pregnancy craving while we lived close to Plato Loco. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, they went out of their way to make me fun mocktails and kept track of my dietary restrictions. Their service is outstanding. Every time we went -which was often- we felt like it was a little celebration. Now, three kids later, and having moved across the world and back, it is still our family favorite. Some of our favorite dishes are the oxtail, the filled plantain (when they have it!), my husband loves the ribs, and I could eat the yellow rice all day (try with the salsas) and their fish is incredible too.

Would recommend if… You love eating away from the hustle of the city center. Enjoy a cosy, small and informal atmosphere. Like fusion food, West Indian flavours and dishes from many Caribbean countries all on one plate. You’re not an Oxtail snob -  the Oxtail Stew although tender (mine was a bit fatty) but none the less full of flavour, however more subtle Indian curry spices. Like Dominican style rice and beans. The Jerk spices were on point and and the chicken cooked to perfection. The croquetas were my least favourite, not enough salt cod and a claggy texture. Decent wine and cocktails. Pleasant staff.

THIS WAS THE BEST CARIBBEAN FOOD EVER MADE IN A RESTAURANT! (Because nothing tastes better than home) The starters were amazing, we had the platter for 2 wich they specifically modified to three people because we were with three people, I mean that says enough. And the sides of plantain were phenomenal as well. The stew of the day (please take the spicy one) was unbelievable I assure you there is a little Caribbean angel dancing in your mouth. We washed everything away with a wonderful/Tasty Rum Punch cocktail and I’ll tell you this… you won’t regret it!

What a lovely little restaurant. A Caribbean twist, with delicious jerk chicken, for example. Tender Caribbean-style spareribs. And they also serve whole fish. Great cocktails and a good wine list. Despite being a bit hidden, it's always packed. Reservations are recommended. Super friendly service.

This is what you call a gem in the heart of Amsterdam. Somewhere you wouldn't expect it. The restaurant is charmingly decorated, and the service is super friendly and very welcoming! And then there's the food: truly delicious, flavorful dishes. The menu is small, but I still had trouble choosing because everything is delicious! This is the second time I've eaten here, and it's highly recommended!

Let me be honest and break this down: Starter (€19,75 for 2 people) Disappointing. The plate was small and definitely not worth the price. Only thing I genuinely liked were the empanadas. The jerk chicken? Mid. I’ve had way better. And the bacalao croquettes were flavorless. My main Visually, it looked great… but the taste didn’t match the hype. I got oxtail and was really looking forward to it, but it was mostly just fat, barely any meat. Flavour was okay, but not memorable. I didn’t even finish my plate. Also tasted the fish and it was overcooked dry. Pricing The portions didn’t match the prices. For what we paid, I expected to leave full, maybe even grab dessert. But no. I didn’t even want to order an extra drink. It just wasn’t giving. 6.5/10 for the food at most. The drink Highlight of the night. Honestly, the drink was the best part of my entire experience. Ambiance Sorry but… not it. The vibe felt off. Honestly didn’t feel Caribbean at all. It felt commercial, kinda soulless. Not a single Caribbean person working there either. And yes, when I go to a Caribbean spot, I’m looking for more than just food. I want vibes, warmth, authenticity.

By chance I came across this place on TikTok. The sun was shining, and we had made a reservation, we were able to get another spot without any problems. The ladies who work there were super enthusiastic! I was allowed to put together my own drink and it was delicious! Looked at the menu, there were plenty of tasty snacks on it. The owner mentioned that she was inspired by the Caribbean and Asian cuisine. I have to say everything we ordered was delicious! Oxtail was deliciously spicy, lots of flavor. Plantain was deliciously sweet. Ribs were super tender, starters had a lot of flavor! I even took the empanadas with me because these were 11/10!! I have rarely eaten so well in Amsterdam. Always a real pleasure and little Caribbean party being here. We come here pretty often, the vegetarian plate is always a surprise and never lets you down. Try it with the fried banana chips, their amazing green special sauce and the coconut water. Thank me later :)

Super cozy and hospitable restaurant where the guest and the food are central. Yesterday again enjoyed a delicious dinner. Absolutely recommended if you are a fan of Jamaican cuisine.

Ate here for the second time with my girlfriend. And once again, delicious, authentic food full of character. The service was super friendly. And there's a lovely terrace with a beautiful evening sun.

The Pink Flamingo cocktail was a favorite – dangerously delicious - and the cherry on top of the pineapple cake: a nice shot with the staff at the end! The atmosphere was relaxed, the food was great and the staff so nice that we almost took them to the office. We will definitely be back. 💃🍹🌴

A fantastic find if you’re looking for something different! Food tastes absolutely amazing and so do their special cocktails. I often bring my elderly parents here who always leave amazed by the generosity and hospitality of the crew. They received a high rating by a well known food critic not too long ago. Definitely go try!

While we were eating, the table was already being cleared. We were asked 3 times if they could take something with them while there was still food in the containers and we still had meat on our plates. The main course was already brought during the starter. We were still eating and the plates were taken away and the fries were already on the table. We felt very rushed because of this and that creates an unpleasant atmosphere.

Had dinner yesterday and it was a very nice experience. The restaurant is cozy, atmospheric and beautiful. The staff is incredibly nice, hospitable and open, chatting and laughing with you! The service is great, the food was on the table quickly. The food itself was tasty, had a mixed starter where you could taste a bit of everything. The sauces here are very tasty! The main course was the chicken, which was also tasty. The accompanying rice was also full of flavor and was delicious in combination with the salad we had with it. All in all we had a very pleasant evening with delicious food!

We are so lucky to have found this little Gem tucked away in F. Hendrikplantsoen. My nice took us there for an early dinner. Amazing food. Don't forget to try the corn Fritters. Great staff. Great atmosphere Great food Great price. Certainly off the tourist track, which made it even better.

On average I don't get more than 2 stars. Below are the reasons To eat: If you know real Caribbean food and have eaten it before, it doesn't taste Caribbean. The Jamaican jerk chicken just tasted like roasted chicken with soy sauce. Not at all the spicy accent of the real Jamaican jerk chicken. Same goes for the spareribs, it was just sweet. The oxtail was tasty. And the side dishes were tasty. The cocktails are fantastic!!! Service: The service was initially super friendly. But suddenly super rushed. We were asked if we wanted to pay this way and we answered no, we wanted to see the dessert menu. Then they came back with the bill to which we said we were still drinking. She didn't respond. We just had to leave, they had that attitude. So downright rude. Realm: Pleasant, nice music. Very tight

There's very limited seating so definitely book a reservation; they were fully booked inside, so seated us outside. This was fine, it wasn't raining, but we did have to wait for the waiter to come to us and the food got colder quicker. Two of us had the jerk chicken; one with rice and the other with sweet potato fries. The other person in our party had the tropical veggie- this changes weekly- which turned out to be a Thai style curry made with aubergine and chickpeas. It had a good hit of spice and the chickpeas were cooked well, but the aubergine wasn't. It was good overall but we have been to better carribean restaurants in the UK.

Once brought along by a friend and since then it has become my second home. The food is top notch, the service is super nice and pleasant and of course the atmosphere is amazing.

I started coming to plato loco about two years ago and last night was the first time the food amount has been inconsistent. I got a very small dry piece of fish. The texture also of the rice wasn't the best. A bit too sticky and chunky and overall the food was less than what is normally on the plate. Lastly, what happened to the Caribbean salad that came with the meal? Now its a tablespoon of some cabbage and one strand of carrot. I think you need to go back to original standards. It's slipping a bit

El sábado 25 de enero de 2025 mi esposa y yo visitamos Plato Loco Caribbean Cuisine, en su cumpleaños y torbellino viaje de 2 días a Amsterdam. Visitamos muchos lugares y esto fue de lejos uno de los puntos culminantes de nuestra escapada urbana. La comida era increíble, el personal encantador (no podía hacer lo suficiente para nosotros! ) y el restaurante tenía un gran ambiente. Nuestra comida fue fabulosamente presentada por el chef y tenía un sabor maravilloso, todo el equipo fue más allá para hacernos sentir especiales. Sin duda recomendaría este restaurante y 100% de revisita, si alguna vez volvemos a Amsterdam.

I ate out with my boyfriend, who had been craving the famous Jerk Chicken main course, while I was absolutely craving the Oxtail Stew! For starters, we got the empanadas and jerk chicken. Our reservation was at 18:45, and we originally had until 20:00, but due to traffic, we arrived about 15 minutes late. Despite that, we still got a table, and they even gave us an extra 30 minutes, allowing us to stay until 20:30—such a kind and generous gesture (plus points!). My boyfriend and I have absolutely no complaints. We loved the vibe, the people, and, of course, the food! In my opinion, this place is a solid 10000/10. And Suzanne (I hope I’m spelling your name right), you are an absolute sweetheart—such a super nice server! We will definitely come again!

One star as the owner needs to learn to listen to feedback. When you close the kitchen at 9pm, inform your customers that have arrived 30 minutes ago. The one star is not related to the time the kitchen closes, but about the manner and the rudeness of the owner when we shared our feedback. Rather than that, tasty food, reasonable prices, nice decoration.

Such a delightful little restaurant! The food was tasty yet the (side) rice was a bit dry. The chicken specialty was delicious, the oxtail stew was tasty but a tiny bit disappointing portion wise.
