Punjabi FoodCourt in Rotterdam Centrum

Absolutely amazing place! The food at Punjabi FoodCourt is full of flavour and genuinely some of the best I’ve had in Rotterdam. The masala chai is outstanding: rich, fragrant, and perfectly spiced. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a relaxed meal, this spot is a real gem. Highly recommended!

This is by far the best Indian restaurant in Rotterdam, and I’ve tried them all. You also get a great view on top of the Markthal and they have heaters for the winter. Had terrible food poisoning and food was very disappointing

The chefs are doing punjabi cuisine and culture proud, as the food is impeccable! Thank you for not sacrificing on flavour, thank you being bold in execution and thank you for providing this unique opportunity in Rotterdam and surrounding. The service could be more friendly, perhaps proper “punjabi hospitality” to complement such food. The women definitely had a bias against Indians, unless she is the owner I suggest please consider previous suggestion 🤣 but I don’t care when the food is this good.

The meat is not fresh. I wouldn't be surprised if people we're getting a food poisoning here.

We had a great experience, the taste blew our minds! We had coconut chicken curry and chicken biryani and it was amazing! So many flavors, the texture was as it should and the staff was so nice to us. We recommend it 10/10, love it!! 💖

We went 5 people to eat here. We all where really dissapointed about the food. Most of us got butter chicken, but i dont think they ever had one themself. It was like soup, too sweet and the rice was DRY!! cheap rice. Not worth it.

I ordered a mango lassi it was too sour and not very good and the staff was calling someone and didn't even bother to greet me kindly

Very good Indian Food, not much spicy.

Ordered and Aloo Parantha from them for takeaway. I was skeptical about the taste but the chef made the parantha in front of me and the process was clean and efficient. Good: Tasty Parantha, well made, Tandoor (clay-pot)cooked. Needs Improvement: Packaging-although laced with butter,it was packed in a paper bag. Note: The paranthas are made with all purpose flour mixed with wheat flour.

I've tried this place a few times and besides the naan, the food is so mediocre. Their garlic naan is very tasty though.

The menu in English on the screen is different from the Dutch menu. We ordered garlic chili Nan without any chili on. Besides that, rice was not included in the dish, would be a good thing to specify that as it is easy to assume it comes with rice.

Nice curry ever too rich in flavour

Groot favoriet van mij, echt zo lekker eten. De butter chicken thali is yum en ik neem ook vaak een lamsgerecht met garlic naan. Mange Lassi erbij... Het is de Markthal, dus snelle bediening en je bent na een uurtje wel weer weg. Maar je kunt erboven heel leuk zitten! Prijs / kwaliteit is prima, ik bestel ook vaak om mee te nemen.

I ordered food for my children (including a baby in a stroller) and wanted to sit upstairs to eat peacefully. Because I also had some food from another restaurant with me, the women upstairs reacted very rudely and told us to leave. Completely unfriendly and inhumane. The service was cold and unwelcoming. On top of that, the food was just rice with four small pieces of chicken and some watery soup — no balance, no real flavor. I will definitely not come back.

The food they have is actually tasty. Only punjabi meals are very limited. Snack is only Samosa vegetarian seen.

We really like the selection of curries and naans. The food gets delivered right up to the atmospheric roof that we got to eat at. This is our second time coming here we are not disappointed. The view of the restaurants and the dome's roof is a very pleasant sight to see.

Problems with order. Due to the language barrier I received a whole menu that I did not order. Clearly indicated no kids menu but only rice then I want to give the fries as take away. Indicated that we did not order food that we did not order. After a lot of drama I got my money back. Food was inedible. Seemed like it had already been prepared the previous day. Very dry!!

The food looked good in the picture but it was very disappointing. The food was way too spicy! I didn't even eat my whole meal. It was really horrible. There weren't even any vegetables in the food. I asked if I could have a salad instead and got a very small salad with only three types of vegetables in it and it had almost no taste because there was no sauce in it and therefore it was dry. The drink I ordered was also very disappointing. This restaurant is really not recommended!

Chicken biriyani and raspberry and mint iced tea was soooo good! They also make fresh naan on a traditional tandoor

Never again. Me and my mother went to eat here friday March 14 2025 we got Food poisoning. It's like they heat the Food. Rice tasted like water the meet the flavours where below basic tasteless.

The Butter Chicken was incredibly tasty and recommended! Well seasoned and very tasty! We will definitely come back to try other dishes. The naan bread (natural and garlic) should not be missed. Super tasty to dip in the delicious sauce.

In their early days they were good. But their food, service and customer friendliness have been disappointing. That's a shame. It has become more expensive and worse. Very unfortunate.

It was an incredible experience from start to finish. Nestled in a cozy yet vibrant setting in the market hall with seating upstairs, the restaurant offers an authentic taste of Indian cuisine with a perfect blend of traditional flavors and modern presentation. I started with the samosas, which were crisp and perfectly spiced, served with tangy tamarind chutney. For the main course, I opted for butter chicken, Kadhai Paneer, Daal Makhni and garlic naan, all of them were outstanding. The butter chicken had a rich, creamy texture with just the right balance of spices, while the naan was warm, fluffy, and fresh from the tandoor. Daal Makhni and Kadhai paneer, which were fragrant, flavorful, and served with a cooling raita. We also tried Chilli Paneer which was bit too sweet. After that we order Chai which was absolutely up to the mark. Their Kadhai Paneer and Daal Makhni reminded me of the authentic taste I get in India. Service was prompt and friendly, with staff eager to recommend dishes based on preferences. Overall, Punjabi food is a must-visit for Indian food lovers. The combination of delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and attentive service makes it a standout choice. I’ll definitely be returning soon!

Voor de 2e keer gegeten hier: wederom supergoed! De curry’s zijn ontzettend smaakvol. Het is niet heel persoonlijk (bestellen via een zuil) maar het eten maakt alles goed. Boven zitten is prima. We gaan hier zeker vaker komen!

I ordered 3 samosas and out of 6 samosas 1 was replaced with one of your neighbouring food court. You guys are fraud i can never trust buying from here again. If you guys were 1 samosa short it would have been nice if your were honest and not borrow it from 55 Bombay street. I clearly sensed it when I ordered yesterday evening but I didn’t know you guys can cheat.

Old food, EXTREMELY RUDE STAFF. Was sick after their food. Please Avoid if you don’t want to sick. They use old spices and ingredients because it is a fast food chain. Rice was made atleast 24hrs before. When I asked them when was it prepared, THEY WERE SO RUDE. They said if you don’t want to eat don’t come here.

I just love Paneer tikka masala here. Not sure how they make it or what they add but you just can’t hate it. Nan - 4/5 ( It’s visible that they make nan there itself and its not the frozen one) Chole Bhature - 4/5 Amritsari Kulcha - 3/5 Biryani - 3/5 In terms of service it’s a bit different, unless you ask for plates to eat they wont serve you. If it’s an Indian we mostly tend to ask Onion, but they don’t serve it.

Me encanta la comida india y no he tenido nada desde que me mudé a Holanda hace 9 meses y tampoco he tenido ningún cordero durante 9 meses. Así que el cordero biryani fue una elección natural para mí. Pedí un pan Naan, así como las samoosas junto con él. Tuve que dar a mi esposa y a mi hijo de 8 años algunos de los biryani al gusto y les encantó también. No estaba demasiado picante. Todo estaba bien cocinado y bastante delicioso. Este vendedor en Markthal tiene asientos encima de su stand para que pueda sentarse y comer con una vista al Markhal.

I love Indian food and haven't had any since moving to Netherlands 9 months ago and also haven't had any lamb for 9 months. So the lamb biryani was a natural choice for me. Ordered a Naan bread as well as the samoosas along with it. Everything was well cooked and quite delicious. This vendor at Markthal has seating above their stand so could sit and eat with a view overlooking the Markhal.

Excesivamente picante para un español. No pudimos comer. Nos tuvimos que dejar la comida entera. Los nuggets infantil buenos, menús mal que la niña comió.

For Indian style street food it’s ok. It’s reasonably priced and has a seating area upstairs.

Authentic Indian curries and naans/parathas

I ordered food from the restaurant via thuisbezorgd, as written on the website it indicates “authentic Indian flavors” however much to my surprise it was disappointing. Dal Makhni - the name itself states it ought to have Makhan a.k.a butter rather it had more oil and was not a “Dal” consistency. There was no cream nothing in it. This one was surely rated as 1/10 Punjabi Lamb - although the lamb was cooked perfectly the curry itself wasn’t good and definitely not up to its mark. It was just flavored water with lamb chunks . Would rate it 2/10 Naans- they were indeed good and nicely cooked. Conclusion: I was left quite disappointed with this meal and I don’t think I would either recommend or try it again and surely not worth the money it was ordered for.

Great food for a readonable price!

I was really craving the mango lassi when I saw a photo of it on their panel, but this was a big disappointment. This was not tasty and cannot be compared to the mango lassis that I have had at other (Indian) restaurants.

Excellent cuisine that immerses us in the Indian world. I recommend.

Where do I start? This place is basically a disaster, food and service too, imagine I was standing in front of the cashier woman for while trying to order, she should be focus in taking customers orders, but instead she was playing with her mobile phone when she actually acknowledged me standing trying to order in cash. Anyway then you go upstairs, noise and smell of all the cooking of course, just to be welcomed by another grumpy young waitress, she never gave eye contacts or smile, she is either having bad day or definitely in wrong industry. Then the food came, chicken Biryani was basically less than average and the rice half cooked. Don’t even bother to go there, terrible experience from start to finish 😑👎

Regardless of other good and bad reviews, my opinion on this one is a bit mixed and as far as possible straight and honest from my point of view! We ordered few items - aaloo paranta with raita and chana plus a chicken roll. Paranta was ok but both raita (as simple as this one) and Chana didn’t make the grade. Came at a price of 15 euros! We also ordered a chicken roll. The roti was a white tortilla and neither a Punjabi one and nor an Indian one! Chicken pieces were many but the taste was a far cry from the native one and nothing to write home about! Fillers were mediocre and no wonder the roll came at a cheaper price! I paid for what I got! Second time may be a hard try unless I am lucky and I think I will not take the risk! I missed the receipt for the paranta, raita, chana combo!

One the most delicious Indiana food. Moreover it is halal meat and chicken. That means Muslim people can eat.

Not freshly prepared! Chicken very dry and unchewable. Apparently all meat is fried in the morning and heated in the microwave for the rest of the day. Biryani was awful and so were the prawns. Hard rice and tasteless taste. Curry flavor was nice but the chicken in it ruined everything. Very dry and tastes old. Waste of your money. This place should really be ashamed of punjabi indian food.

The salads are fresh and crisp. They use a variety of vegetables and the dressings are tasty.

The garlic naan was a perfect accompaniment to the meal. It was soft, fluffy, and the garlic flavor was just right.

They have the most delicious butter chicken! A combination made in heaven is the delicate chicken chunks in a creamy sauce with a tomato foundation. I'm hooked after only one taste!

Remember to serve your meal with the cool Raita. The meals' spice is wonderfully complemented by its coolness.

The chicken tikka masala was incredibly salty that I couldn't finish it and it didn't taste nice. It also didn't come with any rice, so I just ended up with a curry on its own. Very expensive for just a curry. It's not very clear what to do once you've ordered, turns out you're meant to take a seat upstairs but nobody tells you this.

The chicken tikka masala is quite tasty! It's one of my favorite dishes to order because of the juicy chicken and flavorful, thick sauce.

The thali here is a feast for the senses! With a variety of dishes served in one platter, it's the perfect way to sample a bit of everything. Plus, the portion sizes are generous, ensuring you leave satisfied.

Delicious garlic naan (€3.49) with spicy dal makhani (€8.49) is enough for one person. The ambience with the overview of the market hall is very nice. Drinks in cans are quite expensive (€2.99). Ordering at the terminal with card payment takes some getting used to.

Wrap with cheese is served lukewarm and only tastes like the peppers and raw onions.

Unfortunately one of the dishes was over salted and one other dish was using canned vegetables. Cucumber in the salad was not fresh. Overall taste is nowhere close to other places which serves Indian food in the area.

Ordered the chicken thali for lunch at markthal since it offers 2 chicken options; while the place, service and samosas were great, I found the butter chicken WAY too sweet (almost like a dessert!). Maybe I'll try the biryani next time :)

Dec'23- Good authentic Indian food both in terms of quality and taste; ample portion sizes too. Tried twice now with vegetarian options and we were not disappointed.

Ordered chicken tikka massala. Looked good, I took my first mouthful and then no more, the intense heat of the chicken instantly removed the skin from inside my mouth. I asked them if they microwave their food, to which they nodded. I told them of my mouth burn, and they just smiled and said ok. I asked them to tell future diners to be careful, I just got another smile and a thank you... You have been warned, if you like 3rd degree burns in your mouth, this is the place for you!

Worst naan I've ever had anywhere in the world.

We had lunch here on our Rotterdam tour. Everything was very tasty - it's not a gourmet restaurant, but a snack bar. All dishes were hot and the service was very good.

Quick fast food stop kinda place, grab lunch quickly and get back to work. Tasty food, decent quantity, variety of options with Mango Lassi … could never go wrong.

the food was delicious, we didn't have to wait long for it (of course it's actually just Indian fast food). The cutlery that is in a container at each table was not very clean, there were a lot of stains on the spoons. With a rinse power that washes dishes and cutlery all day long, I understand that there will be some deposits on the cutlery, but there were also real food residues on some spoons and knives. I think that goes a little too far. The location of the tent is very nice, you can sit on the roof in the market hall and look over the people walking around.

Lamb biryani and Punjabi Lamb curry were fantastic!

I wouldn’t go - Very rude folks - my elderly parents were with me and we had multiple items we got from them as well as elsewhere but they wouldn’t let us sit in the upstairs seating area and called themselves a restaurant and an exclusive location. I think it should say something for new visitors that food from other markathall locations is not allowed upstairs - as they were so rude and had we known we wouldn’t have ordered. It’s so ridiculous though - there’s no place to eat and we had to stand in a corner and have our food. Finally the Greek restaurant where we had also ordered from saw us and asked if we wanted to sit upstairs in their space. Amazing food at the Greek restaurant - amazing service too! Coming from the UK the Indian food is sub standard at this location and it was the opposite of hospitality that punjabis are known for! I wouldn’t get anything from them if it’s me in the future. The naan place across from them is awesome- great food and great attitude.

I ate chicken masala with rice and paneer tikka and had an ice tea. €26 was definitely too much for the quality i got. Quite flawless. I left unhappy.

Tandoori kip stukjes waren gewoon oud, sommige hard en taai. De garlic naan, was zo dun dat het op een papadam leek met smaakloze knoflook, de Aloon parantha is gewoon naan gevuld met smaakloze producten en olie overheen gegooid. Ras malai is te zoet, geen pistaches eroverheen noch saffraan zoals afgebeeld. Ik hou van Indiase keuken. Maar dit is verre weg van een Indiase keuken. Echt te fastfood/ inspiratieloos/ geen goede kennismaking met de Indiase keuken. Na het bestellen via de apparaat verwachte ik een bon, zodat ik mijn gerecht kon opwachten. Maar de jonge meid zei, dat ik gewoon naar boven kon gaan om te zitten. Uiteindelijk kwam ze het voedsel brengen en vraagt ze aan mij waarom ik geen beeper heb meegenomen. Terwijl het op het bestelapparaat nergens wordt aangegeven dat je een beeper mee moet nemen. En nadat ik om de bon vroeg, vertelt ze ook niet even dat ik een beeper mee moet nemen. Verder geen servetten mee gebracht. En boven ook nergens te vinden. Super slechte service. Geen goede Indiase keuken. Zeer teleurgesteld in alles. Enige voordeel is dat je er boven kan zitten. Hier zal ik nooit meer wat bestellen. Wil je authentieke Indiase keuken meemaken, dan kijk je beter bij dat zaakje wat om de hoek zit!

I really enjoyed this lunch, I was with a vegetarian person and a gluten free person and we had no problem to cater all dietary needs. We had a lentils and beans dahl, with rice and fresh garlic naan and some butter chicken with rice. Approximately 7/8 € per dish and 3€ for the naan. I would gladly come back 😊

Het eten is hartstikke lekker maar echt veelste duur. €15 voor Butter Chicken en een cola. Je krijgt dan een c.a. 5 stukjes kip en een hele hoop rijst met te weinig saus. Ook kreeg ik veel minder brood dan andere mensen en dat vind ik raar.

We ordered chicken biryani , prawn biryani. Rice is not warm and it's hard too chew. It was not cooked properly. Also spoons are not hygiene.

We ate abundantly and this Indian food was amazing, there were a lot of “locals” which is why we decided to eat here. Will come back! Exactly what I was craving. (It was so good that I didn’t get to take many pictures)
