Overpriced and the owner might be the rudest human to ever own a restaurant. Food was burnt due to the oven and couldn’t believe the price of what is basically chickens and rice.

Everything was perfectly cooked, offered 3 different dishes with choice of vegetables. Fish wasn't available tn. Tastes great, veggies could use a bit more salt, but chicken was seasoned well.

A friendly spot, ideally located in the Jordaan district. Come and try the delicious lentil, lemon, and chickpea soups – perfect for winter. In addition to tagines, couscous, and pizzas, they offer a wide variety of fresh herbs. Eat in or take away.

We came in looking for a quick takeaway “pizza” for our ravished tired child, and ended up sitting at an intimate candlelit table over a hot tray of freshly baked cheesy bread Maghreb style. Lovely experience, and we got free mint teas. With a perfect view of the canal and 9 streets.

The music is good, the food is delicious, the wine is good, and the location is nice and cozy. Price: €73 for two dishes: goat cheese and chicken with two beers, one red wine, and one ginger tea.

The review score honestly surprises me. Since I've lived in Amsterdam (1.5 years), this has been my favorite place to eat. The dishes are incredibly flavorful, and the location is beautiful, both inside and out. If you're in the area, it's highly recommended!

This place was a let down. Food was pretty good, but it’s basically catering style food served at an incredibly high price. Got chicken, rice, and two veggie sides. It was warmed up in the oven, served lukewarm, and cost €24 (including a €3 upcharge to dine in). Won’t be back.

The place is very nice and the atmosphere is wonderful. The coffee was one of the best I've ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff is amazing. Jasmin is so sweet. I recommend visiting the place and enjoying it at sunset.

Verdict: L.O.V.E. 100% yes. It was a cool-breeze evening in Amsterdam. We came across Raïnaraï by chance and I fee we were lucky to get a table. Maybe it’s because it was a Wednesday. We were warmly greeted and the food was explained to us as it was in a big display. My two daughters went with me and we 3 shared a total of 2 meals. It was enough for us to be satiated & happy. We got 1) a plate with saffron rice, chicken, carrots veggie medley, and green beans. 2) a plate with couscous (had boiled egg in it too), shakshouka eggplant, and the chicken. The food was heated in an oven and brought to us within 10 minutes. (NB: plates served are hot, as they will also tell you) The food was absolutely beautiful. My daughters kept saying how happy they were we found this place. The rice reminded us of the pilau I cook, which is from Tanzania. There were also apricots, some kind of berries, and olives in the sauces & medleys. Altogether amazing. The ambiance is cozy, warm, suitable for small groups. Probably 6 at ppl in one group at most. The music was great, too. All in all, if you want to try Algerian food, I recommend this place. PS: The owner, whose recipes they use, has published a cookbook that is available there as well.

Being honest, this is the best restaurant food I’ve had in my life, every worker here was lovely and the atmosphere was immaculate. 11/10

26€ for a plate of buffet style food that is pre made and then heated up till dried out seems very overpriced. Healthy food but so many better options around

The food was absolutely delicious! Really. And quite a bit. Friendly service. And yes, not "cheap," but where is these days?! You're in the heart of Amsterdam. The rent must be exorbitant too. We paid €26 per plate.

Vegetarian pizza isn't freshly prepared but heated in the oven! - Overpriced and not tasty -

It's not worth it. The food is average, even reasonable for a quick meal, but it's extremely expensive for what it offers. They put the food on a plate and then put it in the oven. The dish comes out super hot and could hurt someone. They charge for service, but they don't offer any service beyond bringing the order to the table (which should be their obligation), especially since the order is placed at the counter. Go to any tourist restaurant; the price will be lower, with better service and a lower price.

The restaurant offered a nice atmosphere with delicious home made food, we had the pumpkin and the pizza with four cheese (which was average). However, the prices were extremely high for what was offered. We paid for a quality of a really great restaurant, for the service (which actually didn’t exist) and for a really great view, which is pretty much the same in the canals of the Amsterdam. Generally, it does not worth the money paid in total.

One star review as one of the guy working in this restaurant (bold guy, also seems to be the manager) beat my friend while having lunch because he was enjoying the food and having good time. Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend and I wouldn’t go again to this place. Food quite tasty, the guy serving and preparing food to me and my friend was very nice and polite, I’m sorry for him that works in this unhealthy environment.

Great service, a very friendly owner, and good food. We really enjoyed it here and it tasted great. We had to dance before we were allowed to sit down, but that gave the whole place a wonderful atmosphere. A beautiful memory.

Delicious Algerian food in a fantastic location right on the water! No processed foods—everything is freshly prepared. You can customize your dishes, with vegetarian or meat options. The staff deserves special mention: very friendly, attentive, and accommodating.

I loved the area where you can sit and watch the bikes/people pass by. 🚲🚲🌳🌅Feels like a place out of a movie. I could not try to food because it was quite expensive but honestly it looked #goodaf. Hopefully when I am a bit more rijk I will come here. So I am leaving the eten and service part unrated (even)

Excellent food and friendly service

No trip to Amsterdam is complete without a visit to "Rainarai." The food is fantastic, and the combinations are sophisticated. The price is quite high, but considering what you'd have to pay for a bland burger elsewhere these days, the offerings are almost cheap. Definitely not a place for a quick fix or to linger for hours with a drink, but rather a place for pure indulgence! Vegetarian, fish, or meat – there's a dish of each. But they're all top-notch! There are only a few seats inside, so it's only fair to other guests looking for a seat not to extend your stay longer than necessary.

I tried the pizza and it was very good, however, the fact that the pizzas were displayed without any protection seemed unhygienic. The service was quick and friendly.

Such good food. Had the merguez with couscous and a variety of veggies. Adorable staff and relaxed outdoor seating which is perfect for people spotting.

The food looked inticing but as we entered the restaurant the older gentlemen- owner- was extremely rude and unhelpful. We asked him what the menu was he said what you see so we asked but what is it and to which followed an even more rude and arrogant response of its in front of you. No food can ever justify horrible attitude.

Can only confirm the several negative reviews about the owner, unbelievably rude. Definitely not a person and establishment that should be supported, despite a lovely employee and theoretically promising ambience.

The pizza is great and unusual, a wonderful place near the Canal, great music inside that makes you want to dance with a beautiful partner. There is a mini balcony-terrace where you can sit on pillows barefoot.

The food is fantastic. So flavourful and warm - genuinely a good meal. That being said - price is outrageous, even for Amsterdam. The waiter was very nice and seemingly tried his best, but the owner was harsh and created a hostile environment. So, despite the interior being nice, the atmosphere felt off.

The food was excessively spicy, and I think he overcharged us. It's impossible to verify this since there were no prices displayed, but it felt like a rip-off. The owner was a bit peculiar. The best thing was the terrace, where you can enjoy a drink overlooking the canals.

Don't ask him if it's Indian food, because he'll get angry and make it three times as spicy. Good afternoon.

The food was okay, but it wasn't clear what you were paying. I think he overcharged us. It's impossible to verify this. So ask for a quote beforehand. Otherwise, you'll pay way too much.

Food is good despite a bit dry from being heat in the oven but my 3 stars are just because of the owner or manager (bald sir) VERY rude, speaking VERY loud on the phone inside the restaurant and serving me the wrong plate 2 times. Rest of the staff is lovely.

A fantastic location, right in the heart of the Jordaan. I had a delicious meal there, vegetarian (I think even vegan). The food was truly delicious, the atmosphere was great, and the location is fantastic. Everything was just perfect. Highly recommended!

Rainarai is a charming place near one of the canals in Jordaan - one of the central districts of Amsterdam. An exhibition of fresh vegetables in front of the premises encourages visitors to enter. A small and modest place, but full of wooden, raw furniture and accessories. There is no menu - the waitress tells you what they propose from North African dishes. Roasted vegetables with aromatic spices are the base of the main courses. Plus goat cheese, dried apricots and pomegranates. Instead, you choose a supplement in the form of additional vegetables, fish, shrimp or meat. I chose shrimp. The dish was perfect!!! Where to start.. We were walking along and smelt the amazing food, walked into a beautiful restaurant overlooking the canal, the person servicing us was kind and friendly and explained the menu very well.. we ordered two beautiful dishes forgot to take photos. We had the chicken dish and the special.. If you get a chance or you reading this whilst outside the restaurant and cant decide, try it...

The food is ok but without any wow, especially paying such high prices, I do not recommend, not a nice owner.

Incredibly rude owner! We stood in front of his shop for a minute because it started to rain heavily, and he immediately shooed us away. He said we were standing in front of "his" door, but we were standing farther away. He said it was "his property," so we should leave. I've never encountered such rude people!!!!

the worst restaurant in amsterdam rude people, looks dirty never go there

The food is good but the prices are extortionately expensive. The staff tried to charge me 15 euros for a small takeaway box of vegetables (no main, just a single serving of a vegetable side dish) and became very defensive when I expressed my surprise at the price.

We found this small restaurant on our stroll around Amsterdam, we liked the look of the place and the food was on show in a display cabinet, so it was easy to ask what the ingredients were. And we now have an excellent memory of having one of our most delicious meals we’ve ever had. I had the Pumpkin meal served with rice and vegetables. Bit on the expensive side , but as it will remain in our memories for many years, it was worth it . Definitely recommend

We wanted to support a small provider. That's why we spontaneously ate here. After the selection (which was written on the outside - there wasn't!), we decided on different vegetables. The dish was then warmed up and brought to the table. No information about us having to take our own drinks and glasses (which was good because then the whole thing would have cost even more). Conclusion: Food good, service none, price very expensive, for warmed vegetables Euro 24.00!!!!! - mind you for one portion!!!!

A place to eat something different and full of flavor with spices. Generous dishes. They are dishes based on couscous or rice with vegetables and then you can add different types of meat, fish or vegetables. The dish costs €20 to €26 depending on what you add to it. There is also coffee or tea.

This place deserves more love. It is one of my favorite spots in Amsterdam and a rare place to enjoy an actual plate of real food, with a variety of ingredients, spices and heart. I never know what I will discover in a bite, like raisins or a piece of orange will create an explosion of taste in the mouth. It is small and cosy with views of the canals and a pretty atmosphere inside. If you are not extremely hungry, a plate is more than generous to share. For people complaining about the price I don't get it. We play 22 euros for a smash burger in this city, a plate of pasta is also in that range, especially around the central canals. The amount of ingredients in a recipe here is extremely rich and complex and the portion is huge.

Super expensive for an ordinary food. Went with a friend and ordered a pizza and a regular meal. Ended up paying 50 euros. The maths isn’t mathing.

Really nice Service and very tasty food!

Quite a discovery. Let's be honest: Dutch food isn't bad... it's worse. We were looking for something outside the typical sandwich or tourist menu, so we thought about a foreign restaurant, maybe Italian. And suddenly, behind some scaffolding, we discovered a small Arabic food place. We didn't hesitate and went in to try our luck. The truth is, it was a success. I ordered a chicken tagine that was spectacular, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Without a doubt, one of the best things you can find in Amsterdam if you are looking for something authentic and tasty. I would repeat without thinking about it.

Very very good food, however there are some points to improve: more Algerian dishes should be added, the restaurant should be enlarged and Algerian drinks such as Selecto or Hamoud Boualem should be added. Otherwise servers and friendly decor!
