We went here to get a taste of the place's authenticity. Well, it's all fake with its Algerian recipes, even though they are 100% Moroccan, and the service and that man's attitude in particular are sickening.

We had a lovely dinner here with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It’s a charming little place with a really eclectic atmosphere and plenty of character. The owner is incredibly enthusiastic and welcoming, which adds a very personal touch to the whole experience. The food was delicious, comforting and genuinely home-style — nothing pretentious, just good, honest cooking in a relaxed setting. A lovely little find with lots of personality, and definitely somewhere I would recommend visiting if you’re looking for a warm, authentic and enjoyable meal. :::writing::: If you want, I can also make it sound more natural and personal, like a Google review rather than a polished review.

Horrible owner, we were just walking by, considered walking in when the owner came up to us and started harassing me for drinking an iced coffee as a Dutch person, saying I was behaving like a tourist (are dutch people not allowed to drink coffee??) This interaction was rediculous and felt sexist, he kept saying rude things to me for no reason at all while ignoring my boyfriend until we decided to just walk away. It is also the worst sales strategy I've ever seen?? We were about to walk in and he drove us away.

A REAL FOOD TREAT. absolutely excellent vegan and vegetarian dishes. Algerian foods, healthy, fresh, sea food, many vegetables, and also a choice of chicken and meats.. wonderful nutritious. no rubbish foods here. totally natural.. no junk as you find all over Amsterdam and after 4 days we were sick of junk foods, then we came across this little gem of a place. what a delight. At first glance, the food looked very tasty. We were just looking at it, and the owner, seeing that we weren't planning on sitting down right away, kicked us out of his restaurant. The service was absolutely terrible; you're not doing Algeria proud!

One of my favorite places in Amsterdam. I live around the corner and I am surprised every time. Laurent is a passionate and dedicated man. A man with a huge heart. Amsterdam has become a little more beautiful since he settled here. 10/10

Love this place! We discovered this amazing restaurant on our first trip to Amsterdam, and now that we live here, it's a repeat favorite and one of my top restaurants in the city. The food is clearly cooked with so much love. It's aromatic, fresh, and so so delicious. The ingredient quality is clearly very high. Everything is so flavorful, and portions are large. The chicken, the couscous, and the pumpkin have been a few of my favorites. Highly recommended! The ambience looking out at the canal is also very nice.

I returned after 8 months and was very disappointed by the mediocre service. The dish arrived cold at the table. There was no service whatsoever, nothing like the first time when I was very satisfied. I'm really disappointed to have wasted €24. 😞 #disappointment #service #dish #money

Very nice Algerian restaurant, cool location and friendly staff. They have all sorts of vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as a type of meat per day. It is hard to know what the meal you order consists of; but they are delicious. The food is pricy for what you get, starting from 24 euros but the location is nice: they also have pizzas which I would like to try some time.

A truly typical restaurant where the chef still stands behind the stove himself. He asks what you want to eat and prepares it. Cozy atmosphere inside. Algerian cuisine. A discovery!

Immediately when entering you are enchanted by the delicious smell of the food, the homely environment and the relaxing music. The seating possibility outside, also heightens that sentiment. We were told to “make ourselves at home” and get some drinks out of the self-service fridge until the owner had time to take our orders. Since there wasn’t really a menu (you just eat what you see in the display when you arrive in the resteraunt), we just told him that we were vegetarian and he basically decided for us :) The food was great and filling. After having finished the meal, the owner, who sat at the table next to us, offered us some tea that he had cooked for himself. All in all a very pleasant experience and great food, perfect for a home away from home experience!

This is one of the best meals you can find in Amsterdam. Everything is exceedingly fresh and flavorful as well as beautifully prepared and presented. You will also be welcomed incredibly warmly, maybe even with a piece of fresh fruit!

OMG! Every bite is a taste explosion of flavour! The owner/chef definitely had pride in his cooking. When he said that the dish was hot, it was an understatement. The food definitely had a kiss of a fire oven...ah! The flavour!

This was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. It was my first time visiting, so I politely asked, “Hello my friend, this is my first time ordering here. Could you tell me how it works?” The employee explained it once. Since my friend next to me doesn’t speak English, I was translating for him and missed one part. I then politely asked, “Could you tell me that part again, my friend?” His response was simply: “I told you already.” I was genuinely shocked. There was nothing rude or demanding about my question. I was polite from the beginning, and I always treat restaurant staff with respect. No customer deserves to be spoken to like that. Basic courtesy should be the minimum standard in hospitality. I told him that he was being very rude and decided to leave. When I went back inside to say a few final words about how unacceptable his attitude was, he aggressively tried to dismiss me by repeatedly saying, “No Italian, no Italian,” in a very hostile tone, as if he wanted to get rid of me based on who he assumed I was. I’m actually Turkish, but that doesn’t matter, making assumptions about someone’s nationality and treating them differently because of it is completely unacceptable. Whether it was prejudice or simply an attempt to stereotype me, his behavior was disgraceful. Someone with that attitude should not be representing a restaurant in a diverse, welcoming, and international city like Amsterdam. I will never return, and I certainly cannot recommend this place to anyone who expects even the most basic level of respect.

Absolutely delicious!! Wish i discovered this place sooner! The portion and the warmth of the place and the food is 10/10

The good thing about this place is that one of the three waiters is quite friendly, and the food is delicious and very interesting. The bad thing is that the other two waiters shouldn't be in front of the customers. To begin with, the girl who was painting a sign for the place (who was a waitress) innocently asked her if she worked there (since she looked different from the other employees). She said yes, with a sour look on her face. Then (my mistake, since it must have been obvious), I asked if the place had a menu, to which this girl proceeded to answer in the rudest way possible, "Yes," and that "they'll serve me." Afterward, the other waiter, with gray hair and blue eyes (I think), proceeded to serve my friend and me. The guy spoke in incomprehensible English, which he also combined with whispers that not even ghosts could manage to be so inaudible. After my friend finished ordering, I started ordering mine. I, who don't understand ghost languages, obviously kept asking what the guy was saying. His reaction was to hit me with a "Are you listening?" while making a "think with your head" gesture. After giving him a couple of death glares, we proceeded to eat. The food was worth it, and the waiter, who wasn't one of the ones I mentioned above, was really nice. A message for the blue-eyed guy: I understand you had a rough day; I've worked in a kitchen too, but take your dick out of your mouth when you talk if you want to be understood. Customer service is paramount, and just because you had a bad day doesn't mean you had to ruin mine. Kisses.

What an incredible place. 1,2 or 3 courses. More food than you can eat. Fantastic flavours. Great atmosphere . Really unique. It would of been 5 stars, but we were told it was fish and chicken, but we got fish and lamb. Give it a try.

I visited this place with a friend. I'm from the Netherlands and she's from Spain. We spoke English, and I honestly think that was the problem. Suddenly, everything ended up costing almost twice as much. The owner was very friendly while doing it, but charging €10 for a bottle of water that was clearly listed as €4 on the wall is a bit strange. We ordered about €40 worth of food according to the menu, but when it was time to pay, the bill came to €79. Very suspicious. The food wasn't bad—it was well seasoned—but it's definitely not worth it if you feel like you're being ripped off. The strangest part was that he did it all with a smile on his face.

My favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. I’ve eaten here many times and never been disappointed. The food is so fresh and flavorful. The portions are good, and the vegetarian options are great. The owner is also super nice and clearly takes a lot of pride in his restaurants. Highly recommend :)

Service was very rude. Pizza was ok but not great.

I had a very disappointing experience at Rainarai in Amsterdam. The man working behind the food stall was extremely arrogant and clearly had no interest in helping us choose a good dish. We asked for a recommendation because it was our first time, but instead of being helpful, he responded with a rude comment: “Then go to Dirk.” That kind of attitude is completely unacceptable when you’re working in hospitality. Customers come for good food and friendly service, and unfortunately, we received neither. Being treated with disrespect simply for asking for advice ruined the entire experience. I would not recommend this place if you expect decent customer service. There are plenty of other places in Amsterdam where the staff actually appreciate their customers.

The restaurant is located in the city center, near the Jordaan neighborhood. The restaurant is small, with limited seating, but it has a romantic veranda overlooking the canal. The food is very good, sophisticated, and refined. Ideal if you want a hearty, generous meal. Dishes are made to order by telling the manager what you'd like. There's a small fridge stocked with various beers and drinks. The restaurant itself is very picturesque.

Is Algerian food supposed to be bland? There was no seasoning let alone flavour, not a garlic or spice in sight, My husband said this is how Algerians eat, I said it’s flavourless food. V disappointed -one of the ‘dips’ with the bread was a thick tasteless chickpea paste and no other flavour! We are so used to hummus with tahini this was v disappointing. 2 of the things I wanted had run out of which was disappointing as I am vegetarian it limited my choices even more. Nice olives.

I highlight the kindness of everyone who is there at the service, but a special mention to Lulu. Her attention is super sweet and she is attentive to details. I want to congratulate the team but a special mention to Lulu. She's very sweet, humble and very skilled. I highly recommend every dish they have to offer. I spent a few days in Amsterdam and went twice to Raïnaraï with friends. This was great because we got to try a bit of everything

I really enjoyed discovering this little restaurant. I had the Vegetarian option with couscous, goats cheese, spinach and pumpkin and a delicious apricot and fig. It was very filling and delicious.

We were on holiday strolling through the neighborhood and walked past the place and the smells coming out of there were fantastic although we had literally just had lunch but since it was our last day there and may not get a chance to return we decided to get a pizza as we could easily eat it later as a snack or on the way. I walked in and the server was very approachable, asked him a few questions about the food and he was very helpful and informative. I ordered the small pizza (4 small pieces)he asked me where i was sitting, i replied “we’re just outside” and pointed to the 2 seater near the window infront of the shop. He charged me for the pizza, told me he’ll heat it up and i requested it to be in a takeout box since we’ll be leaving soon and literally stopped because of the smell. We waited for a few minutes outside and he brought out the pizza, handed it to me and said “there you go, now you can be on your way” which i thought was just his way of saying farewell. Whilst seated i opened the box and since it was freshly heated i proceeded to take a bite out of one of the slices. The same guy rushes out and says “i thought you said you’re going to take it away right?” in quite a firm and loud manner. Which caught me by surprise and got me thinking.. wow that’s a total 180 from a few minutes ago, what happened? (with regards to his approachable and friendly attitude) I then said “am i not allowed to eat here or something?” feeling confused as i told him we’re sitting outside when i ordered. He then said “the price is different if you want to eat here” Now that’s not an issue and i’ve seen a lot of spots do that as a service charge for dining in (which makes sense i guess) but the way he delivered the message was quite frustrating especially given the fact that he completely skipped that part when i was ordering the food. Normally i would've been a nightmare to deal with in scenarios like these (especially given the fact that he was horrible at customer service) and would have given him a piece of my mind but i figured id be the bigger man, walk away and not ruin the other diners experience due to one insensitive weirdo. Sadly my experience was ruined as no matter how good the food, if the people serving it are low grade it just doesn’t sit right. Didn’t get his name, but hopefully he learns from this.

We stumbled upon this cute little place in a great location in Amsterdam by chance. The prices are exorbitant for the dishes offered. We ordered two pizzas, which, while edible, were probably made the day before or earlier in the day because they were simply reheated. The owner, though kind, doesn't hand out menus or prices...you have to look for them on the chalkboards displayed throughout the place. Tablecloths are nonexistent.

NOT RECOMMENDED!! We went to this restaurant because it looked very attractive from the outside, especially the terrace, which is the best part of the place. The atmosphere is pleasant and it looks nice, but the experience was disappointing. We ordered a beer and a Coke and were charged €10, already a high price for something so basic. Even so, since it was late and we were hungry, we decided to stay for dinner. We ordered a pizza and were charged €30, completely disproportionate for what it was. Furthermore, the pizza was excessively spicy, to the point of ruining the meal. The worst part is that there were no prices displayed anywhere, which makes it impossible to know how much you're going to pay before ordering. This creates distrust and gives the impression that prices are inflated depending on the customer. In short: nice terrace and a good atmosphere, but exorbitant prices and a total lack of transparency. I wouldn't recommend it.

The sunny spot is the only nice thing about this place. I never write reviews, but I still want to share this experience. The food is tasty but very overpriced. I paid €32 for lunch: 1 lemon drink, 1 ginger drink (250 ml), and 1 plate of couscous. The owner was very rude and had many rules that people on the terrace had to follow. He did not explain these to the guests first (in a normal way). He immediately started shouting angrily and complaining that we were all doing things wrong. He also kept asking me questions, but not in an interested or respectful manner. It came across as very pushy, and he wanted to know where I worked and how much I earned. Next, he tried to give me his number so that I would come work for him and he would pay me very well. I found this a bit inappropriate and it made me uncomfortable. In conclusion, I might only have a drink in the sun here if other staff were working. For a pleasant experience and a good price, I will have to go to other places.

A lucky find on the way to the hotel. The pizza in the window looked so delicious that we spontaneously decided to go in. There were only a few seats, and they were all taken in no time. I had a vegetarian mini pizza, and my husband had chicken with couscous. Both were absolutely delicious.

Delicious food, very simple menu with large portions. Tastes like good home cooking. The owner was friendly and talkative. It was 64€ for two chicken dinners, two sodas, and two sparkling waters.

The food was overall good, the tuna pizza and the plate of rice with vegetables were tasty. Unfortunately, this positive impression was heavily overshadowed by the service and high price. Right from the moment we tried to choose our food, we felt poorly guided. Our questions were barely answered and instead we were given strange looks rather than friendly support. On top of that, we had to wait a very long time for our food, which made the experience even more frustrating. The service felt inattentive and uninterested from the beginning. What we found especially negative was that we were not allowed to eat the food we had already purchased on the seating outside. Since we had a young girl with us who was very hungry and simply wanted to eat her food while it was still warm, this was completely incomprehensible to us. We have never experienced anything like this before. The owner or a staff member also came across as extremely arrogant, which further worsened the overall impression. Combined with the, in our opinion, outrageously high prices, regardless of how good the food may be, the value for money is simply not justified. Unfortunately, this experience showed us a side of Amsterdam we did not expect and one we would avoid in the future. I’m happy to support the hospitality industry, but when I go out to eat in a city, the overall experience needs to be right – which was definitely not the case here.

Extremely disappointed. I have been here often and the place has good food and friendly staff. This impression changed completely when the owner arrived; he was immensely unfriendly and lashed out for no reason. The owner told my girlfriend and me that we were sitting awkwardly and taking up too much space. Additionally, I got the impression that he is homophobic. After this day, I no longer recommend this restaurant. Furthermore, it is extremely expensive for what you get........

A missed opportunity. It's a beautiful place, but the food is way too expensive for a store where everything is already laid out in a display case and just heated up in the oven. Complete lack of service (much of it is self-service) and the staff is also disinterested. Again, such a shame. I've been three times now, but I won't be back. It's just really not worth it, unfortunately.

I really liked it. The atmosphere, the location, the original menu. We tried the pizza, it was incredibly delicious. But we come here for the coffee (plant-based milk is available) – it's the best in Amsterdam, and it's open late, with bike parking nearby. 👍🏻 On the downside, the prices are steep.

If I choose the vegan option out of three, I don't expect to find any egg in my food. It's a bit of a downer on an otherwise super delicious meal. I'm a bit less strict about eggs than I am about dairy and meat, so it wasn't a deal-breaker for me at the moment, and I didn't want the fuss. Incidentally, people with egg allergies do exist, and in that case, there would have been a real problem. When I left the restaurant, I saw eggs on top of the couscous in the display window.

I had the most amazing meal this evening, everything was authentic and felt very homemade. The server Lulu was so kind and hospitable she elevated the experience to perfection. I plan to be back weekly. Only good things to say. Finally, after trying 10+ apple cakes in Amsterdam this is officially number 1 on my list. A must visit place for everyone.

The food is amazing. The owner is awful. He is rude to customers and horrible to his staff. I’m uncomfortable going there after multiple bad experiences.

Finally got to go for the first time today after passing so many times and it was incredible. We had the chicken with veggies and will definitely be back to try the pizza and fish! They offer both dine in and take away which was great to know too!
