Just had dinner at Calisto and it was a kind of Paradise on Earth experience. This place can definitely compete with other culinary highlights like Toscanini, Parlotte or Domenica. The service is also top. Highly recommended.

Every table was full and the mood was festive when we came to Calisto for dinner earlier this week. The food was delicious and unpretentious. I only wished there were more options on the menu so I could enjoy even more.

We had a really lovely meal here at Callisto. Atmosphere was great, it was busy so I would recommend to book in advance. We arrived at 8pm, and ordered the focaccia bread to start which was fantastic. We then had the mackerel which was delicious, something we wouldn’t normally order but was really pleasantly suprised with. Our were two of the three pasta dishes on the menu. The lobster spaghetti was great however we found the zucchini linguine slightly underwhelming. For drinks we ordered a recommended red wine which was perfect, our waitress was polite and attentive and gave us great recommendations. Thank you. Overall would definitely recommend a visit here to Callisto if you are in the area or visiting Amsterdam.

This is a lovely restaurant. I’m new to the city and everyone keeps saying how underwhelming the food scene is here, so my expectations were fairly tempered. I just wanted a nice vibe and decent wine. This food exceeded my expectations. Had multiple veggie plates and two pastas. All were cooked perfectly with balanced flavour. All staff were professional and warm. Will absolutely come back.

Style over substance. Staff nice, service bad

Wonderful meal at a relaxed pace with excellent service. We had the eggplant focaccia, the mackerel in saor, the pappardelle with pork shortribs and the kammer lam (lamb sausage and lamb leg with carrot puree and beet reduction).

Typical HME hotspot with only natural wine, small portions for high prices (17 euros for a sliver of artichoke, absurd) and staff who have memorized the dishes but don't know what they are saying. So don't show any interest in 'a reduction of beetroot', because they won't get any further than that explanation.

Restaurant Calisto, located on the ground floor of Calisto hotel, is a great option for Italian cuisine in Amsterdam. With generous portions, fresh ingredients and simply delicious food, it is a great value especially by Amsterdam standards. Led by the chef Stefano Orofino, Calisto offers high quality dining experience without resorting to fancy techniques or ingredients and just sticking to classics. Their a la carte menu is on the smaller side but there's something for everyone. Along with the food, they serve a wide selection of Italian and French wines, mostly natural/biodynamic producers but also some classics as well. The atmosphere is very cozy, and you have different options to choose from dining at a table, at the bar or by the window. Service is very fast and the staff is friendly and helpful, they know their food and the wines they serve well. Even on the busiest nights, they are very attentive and do their best. If you want to make sure you enjoy your dinner slowly, I recommend going for the 2nd seating. Overall we really enjoyed our meal the last time we were at Calisto, although we overstayed our welcome :) we will definitely be back!

Super cozy restaurant where the four of us enjoyed homestyle tasty pastas, particularly well chosen wines, a fun atmosphere and friendly service. I will make it a regular! And yes the prices are reasonable! Make a reservation! It's popular!

food was not bad (though you can find better in amsterdam) but this was ultimately spoilt by the slow food service. we waited around an hour for our main to come, and when we asked the waitress to check on the main, she said it took slower to give us a break from the appetiser. the people around us who had come way later had all received their food and were about to leave the restaurant. disappointing experience.

Delicious meal with the surprise menu. Dishes were beautifully prepared and tasted delicious. Good variety and the staff was very attentive. The wine glasses were promptly refilled. The only unfortunate point is that everything has to be done quickly because the next batch is already waiting from 8 am, which makes things a bit restless. But of course that's what you get with such a good restaurant!

I can only recommend this place! After a short wait at the bar we were able to get to our table - the friendly staff helped us take our drinks and our dog to the table and recommended great drinks and starters. Afterwards we got what was probably the best pasta I've ever eaten with octopus and bone marrow! So delicious!! It was our 2nd visit and we will definitely be back! THANK YOU

This place has a great vibe and lovely service. The menu is fairly small, but that need not be a problem. The prices are fair for Amsterdam in this day and age. I really thought most of the dishes were underwhelming, despite the generous portions of sauce on each. There is much, much better pasta and Italian food in the same neighborhood (and street). So, the very high scores other people are giving should be taken with a grain of salt. I would treat it more as a bar with nice food.

Addition to the below: the manager called me and apologized. We received money back for tip and water, the tap water should not have been paid for (only fizz). I think it was very sporty of them, they didn't think it was necessary to remove or adjust the review, but I also think they deserve credit for how they handled this. Just bare your buttocks and say sorry. Nicely resolved. ————- Not happy with this experience. 10 euros for 2 bottles of lukewarm tap water, of which it is not stated anywhere that you have to pay for it or how much. Fine to pay, but communicate it instead of putting it on the table without asking, which makes it seem free. The receipt said 'total price 311 euros' in large letters and I rounded up and paid 330. So 19 euros tip. But later it turned out that the receipt still contained a total price, but in smaller print underneath. This was 281 euros, because I had already paid 30 euros. In a busy restaurant where you have already been asked to leave, you do not have the time to thoroughly analyze the receipt, so you look at the largest printed total amount and not the smaller letters below it. So now it means that I tipped 49 euros instead of 19. The food itself was tasty, but not as good as I expected. The dirty cutlery from the starter was taken from the plates by the staff and put back on the table, which I find quite disgusting. I asked for new cutlery, but that only came after asking twice. I came here to celebrate my birthday and have a nice evening, but unfortunately I was left with a bad taste.

I am a regular here as it's my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. Delicious food, good portions & pricing. I fully trust the lovely surprise menu. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is beautiful as well as the cosy interior. There is mix of type of guests (which I love). Also: the wines, ciders and cocktails are very well selected.

Fantastic restaurant, would highly recommended. Food excellent, particularly the fish and calves liver. Service was warm and efficient. The restaurant itself has a sophisticated vibe without being stuffy. Will definitely be back.

we've got welcomed by a experienced and kind team of staff, quick with a joke or a light up our candle. In a cosy atmosphere we enjoyed each other, as well as delicious food and best pear-cider in town (hide for fantastic mr. fox calisto). this restaurant and team brought us in such high atmospheres that we had booked a romantic roadtrip holiday by the end of the night, 10/10!

Very noisy, but to each their own. The 'famous' eggplant balls were fried for too long (in old fat) and therefore did not taste good. Also way too much pepper.

Joined calisto for two starters, including toast with sardines. The pastas, such as fettuccine with lamb, were tasty and well seasoned. We finished with a mascarpone dessert. It was a wonderful evening in a cozy, busy setting.

Eggplant croquette with black garlic very tasty. Blood orange salad too. I didn't like the toast with sardine, but... subjective. Pasta (casarecce with nduja) is tasty in itself, but not enough for a main course. Dessert (kind of deconstructed tiramisu) very tasty. Wines good. Quality good, service excellent. Portion size a bit frugal, therefore 4 stars.

Really nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Staff was really polite and helpful. We were not satisfied by the food, the dishes we tried were too spicy without being mentioned in the menu. The starter with aubergine was amazing! Dessert was a deconstructed tiramisu, which we didn’t like. In Summary, I would keep the restaurant vibes and the politeness of the staff and I would forget the food…

Great spot, great food, great ambiance and great service. We went for the gambero, zucchini and aubergine croquettes to share. For mains I went with the bucatini hamachi which was excellent. Highly recommend this spot!

Did not stay overnight in the hotel, but sat in the restaurant! We sat at the back bar, a prime spot from which you can get a good view of the restaurant and kitchen. The atmosphere was very relaxed, we were helped by friendly staff and we also had a delicious meal with some cocktails. We we'll come again👍🏻

A disaster. I ordered a wine by the glass and I was served a wine on tap without presenting the bottle so it could have been any concoction and there was no way to verify....... it really seems like an outlet for the c.... of the customer, of course I highlighted everything at the counter but all this will be of no use

Mediocre pastas with few ingredients that usually add flavor. (Example: pasta romanesco had a few crumbs of romanesco & undercooked pasta). Very disappointing that we were asked to leave the restaurant exactly after 2 o'clock. I made a reservation a month ago and we were planning to go all out for a birthday. When we were kicked out we hadn't even gotten to order dessert. Meanwhile, a large group of people next to us who were allowed to sit all evening and behaved very loudly and rudely. Turned out to be friends of the staff. There was a nice woman at the counter, but unfortunately nothing was done with our feedback.

Incredibly delicious and special food last Friday! There are some funky options on the menu, but that's really fun. The place was packed until late in the evening, a good sign. The food was of good quality and the price was in proportion to quality. Unfortunately, there were no mussels with the pasta (it was on the menu) and there was miscommunication about a wine to which the service did not respond very friendly. Other than that really impressed!

This is a very chilled spot to sit for a drink, u would highly recommend it. We sat outside for a drink after dinner - there is a lot of foot traffic so it’s great for people watching. The service was quick and they have a small but decent snack menu. They don’t have the usual fried things but rather serve tasty little bites. The actual dinner also looks nice but we didn’t eat. We will be back to try it out!

Absolutely wonderful food, the chefs are amazing, I especially loved the anchovies, they were so delicate and citrusy, and the butter that comes with the focaccia would make Anthony Bourdain proud. The front of house staff was so lovely, very attentive service and very informed on the wine selection - which was also great. The one thing that detracted from the otherwise perfect dinner experience was the noise. When the restaurant is 3/4 full, it is close to impossible to have a conversation with the person across the table, I would recommend the owners invest in some sound dampeners to round out the restaurant experience faultless.

A very cosy nice place near west. I personally like these kind of vibes when you enter to a restaurant and feel its warmth. The menu was limited in terms of food options but super delicious. I was at Calisto's today for lunch! First of all, I must say that the restaurant is in a fantastic location, a quiet and well-kept street. The restaurant is simple but cosy and glamorous! The ambience is informal and the staff super friendly! The food is great! We ate focaccia, flavored butter and anchovies very good, aubergine croquettes unforgettable, stracciatella, green beans and peaches (fresh and pleasant), a fried artichoke with fish tartare in sauce simply perfect! I will get back for sure!!

There was a “Sicily Sunday special”. We thoroughly enjoyed very special and fresh dishes, with exciting and unique flavor profiles, while enjoying a specially selected orange wine. It felt like an Italian holiday in our own country. We ordered, among other things, the frito misto (wonderfully seasoned, fresh and perfectly fried), puttanesca (homemade pasta with a chewy structure) and a fried artichoke with eel and egg yolk. I still dream about it!

I’ve visited the Sunday “Sicily Special”. The food was truly good and the prices were designed fairly. I can recommend the artichoke - a very special dish I’d definitely come back for. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer was that the moment we finished our dessert we got asked 3 times in a row “you want anything else?” “I’ll bring you the bill okay?”. We still had drinks left and felt rushed to pay asap after the last bite. Besides that, I can recommend this small restaurant in Jordaan. It also has a sunny tiny terrace perfect for apperitivo.

Had a great time at Calisto! We tried almost all starters, and focaccia with sardines and artichoke with crabs were something to come for again. Delicious desserts, especially mascarpone with chocolate and coffee. Large choice of wines, supported by recommendations from very friendly and professional staff.

I came here to dine solo. The entire experience was pleasant and no fuss. I loved the food, the service was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Would go back again for sure

First of all: the food is really delicious. But... The small restaurant is incredibly crowded: we were sitting at a kind of bar where you can easily eat with 6 people, but 10 people were seated there. I had to sit halfway behind my group and couldn't reach my plate. Then you think: oops, too many reservations were accepted, but they don't do that. So when 4 people left and I could finally get to my plate, 4 new people were just crammed to our table. Then the service: the sweetest service, but apparently the kitchen was just as overloaded as our table because our aperitif snacks only arrived after 60 minutes. We had already ordered our main courses half an hour ago, but that took another 10 minutes more. So if they hope to make a lot of turnover by cramming all the people on top of each other like sheep, they will fail if you then make them wait 70 minutes. My advice: don't go for the time being, wait until the parool/people's newspaper/Tripadvisor hype dies down. Because it tasted really good when I finally had a plate on my lap.

Tastes like Rome. Moreover, you can still walk in here without making a reservation! A breath of fresh air in always-full Amsterdam.

È fantastico! The pastas are the highlight but definitely don’t skip the mascarpone with coffee sabayon and brioche dessert. Great selection of Italian and French (natural) wines too. Service from the two ladies helping us was attentive and personal. Highly recommended!

Very nice cafe, the atmosphere is good! It feels like a cozy, full living room. Nice people and cheerful service. There is a huge range of wines and we were helped very pleasantly and attentively despite it being busy. The wine well advised, were delicious! We had some starters, 2 pastas, desserts and some wine, all for a nice price and you taste quality. Tip: those balls from the starters are super tasty and crispy! Because they have varying dishes, I will definitely come back here soon, also interesting for lunch.

I’ve had dinner a couple of times here now, and I’ve enjoyed it a lot: the food was very tasty, the service was very friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was nice—well-designed and characteristic—and the wines were great. Last weekend I had dinner there with my Italian friend. We ordered the freshly made ravioli, filled with shrimp and ricotta, and a tomato bisque sauce and it was incredible! So tasty. My friend was very impressed. The waiter recommended us a great wine to pair it with. We had a lovely evening, Thanks!

Recently had a wonderful afternoon at Calisto with the family, a party of six. The staff was incredibly friendly, the wine (Vivas from Ploder-Rosenberg) was very tasty and as a vegetarian I have been surprised again for a long time. I will be back very soon for the eggplant and the delicious focaccia. Thank you!

We took the 4 course menu option for 2 people and had a mixed experience overall. For the food, most of the dishes were one plate to be shared. Therefore, they were small portions but from what we tried they were creative and flavourful. The marscapone dessert left something to be desired - too small, too simple. Perhaps another small dish could be added when considering the small portions, it was not much food for what you pay but we did enjoy most of the courses. Like the dessert, the service was unfortunately subpar. There were three servers, two of which were dismissive and unfriendly. The waiter seemed frustrated before we even sat down. Despite the unwelcoming attitude of the service, we liked the style and ambience of the restaurant - only it was slightly cramped inside as the evening went on. There is room for improvement.

The food here ranges from delicious comfort dishes to just okay options. The atmosphere is nice and it's clear the owners have put effort into the design just like the other places they own in the city. Still something about this place that never leaves me feeling good. Unfortunately, the service needs serious improvement. I've been here multiple times and recommended it to others, but sadly we've all experienced the same, the staff is unfriendly and often dismissive, making guests feel pressured and unwelcome, including non-inclusive behaviour. Simply, imagine you are treated as guests who didn't bring any gifts and overstayed the housewarming.. that awkward silence moment, if you can live with that, you will thrive here. I know you may think welcome to the Netherlands. But this isn't simply the standard in the Netherlands – I've experienced much better service elsewhere, including places owned by the same crew. I don't expect a Dwight Schrute garden party but Mose could pull off a better job here serving. This is a shame because the restaurant has potential. I would still recommend it for a summer weekend, some wine on the terrace

We had dinner in the restaurant below our hotel and had a great time. Being French in Amsterdam and only present for the weekend, we were looking for a great restaurant which we found! The menu was varied, with very good value for money. You have a view of the kitchen in the restaurant which is very nice, the atmosphere in the restaurant is very subdued. The servers are all very friendly. For the kitchen, if I could give this review a 20/20, I would. Delicious starters, the best pasta I have eaten (the one with tomato sauce and grilled bacon), my companion had the one with veal ragout, it was a treat. The desserts are all as delicious as the rest of the menu. There is a wide choice of wine, which is very nice. If we return to Amsterdam, we would be happy to return there again. You can go there with your eyes closed! Enjoy your food. 😍

Such a shame that you have to pay 5 euros for a carafe of tap water here. For me a real let down and inhospitable.

We spontaneously asked if there was still room, and we did! Plus point 1. We had a refined meal with pure Italian products. The food came quickly but not too quickly. Good advice on which wine and which dish to choose. It has a living room ambiance and helpful staff! A pearl in the city and, importantly, very nice prices.

Had dinner here at the bar last Friday. That was a really great experience. Smooth, friendly service with very good wine recommendations. Then the dishes were absolutely spot on. Sometimes when you think of pasta you think: I can make that at home too, but I really can't get them as tasty/special as here and then it is well worth ordering 😍

Very cozy restaurant and contrary to some reviews, we think the service is very good. The food is really delicious and the starter with focaccia with sage butter and the pasta amatricana are especially recommended. The only critical note that can be made here is that the cheapest wine starts at 45 euros. Be prepared for this. We had a very nice wine for 50 euros and after looking up the wine it turned out that the wine when purchased was 20 euros. I think that at all restaurants, especially in Amsterdam, it is logical that if you order a bottle of wine, it is more than logical that a bottle will be turned upside down 4 times anyway. So that's fine as far as I'm concerned because it was worth every cent! Highly recommended!

First of all, a huge plus that you can connect to walk-in here, this was also what we came to. The food and quality were good but didn't blow us away. The wines were good but the wine glasses were not really a favorite for us. The restaurant is a super atmospheric and hip place in a top location. We agree with the other review about feeling rushed due to time slot, but it was not an issue for us because we did not want to spend a whole evening here. A cozy nice place but not a great food. Small side note, During our dinner we were served by the girl with brown hair with curls and she was not very cordial, this is not a very nice calling card for the restaurant.

Sharing Plates Dilemma: However, the concept of sharing plates proved to be more confusing and frustrating than anticipated. As a party of two vegetarians and one meat eater, we expected the sharing plates for the set menu to accommodate our diverse dietary preferences. Unfortunately, the portions were divided into two for the three of us, leaving us with an uneven distribution. It felt disheartening to see half of the plates dedicated to meat, forcing us to share one portion amongst two people due to our dietary restrictions. The staff also kept placing the meat dishes in front of the vegetarians. The menu, though promising, fell short of expectations. Repetitive combinations of nuts on raw vegetables and an abundance of artichoke became a noticeable pattern. The pesto pasta, in particular, left much to be desired, resembling a simple home-cooked student meal. The disappointment was further compounded by the prices charged for these seemingly small and unimpressive dishes which we were splitting. We were all a bit confused as to why, without wine us two veggies paid over 100 euros for some bread, two tiny veg dishes shared between us and some simple pasta. Calisto has potential but needs significant adjustments in its food concept and portioning strategy.

Voor mijn verjaardag naar Calisto gegaan. Helaas doen jullie niet aan reservaties maar kon er toch een uitzondering gemaakt worden op de dag zelf. Ik kon kiezen tussen 18:00 of 20:00. Ik besloot om voor 20:00 te gaan. Bij binnenkomst kwam de ober al binnen 5 minuten 3x vragen of we al wisten wat we wilden eten omdat de keuken al ging sluiten. (Dit was mij niet verteld bij de reservering). Na de eerste gang werd ons ook verzocht om zsm de volgende gang te bestellen ivm met het sluiten van de keuken. We stonden een uur later weer buiten omdat alles er doorheen werd gejaagd. Erg zonde want op deze manier kan er niet genoten worden van het eten en de wijn. We hadden er vooraf naar uitgekeken om hier te eten maar dit viel achteraf erg tegen.

Their arancinis are delicious! Although they only accept reservations for groups, we've always managed to secure a table at the counter after a short wait. The staff is very friendly and always open to providing recommendations on what to order!
