The service here is a shame. That's the reason I won't be back. They forgot drinks with dessert, and took orders while they were still halfway through the other table. The food is good (we had several appetizers), but the service here is subpar. It's a shame because the menu is good (although the main course variety is minimal: only pasta) and it looks very nice.

A fantastic spot to celebrate a birthday! We were made to feel incredibly welcome, and the service was faultless throughout. The food is truly exceptional. We chose the Chef’s Selection menu, and it took us on an unforgettable culinary journey. We’ll definitely be coming back. Can’t recommend this place highly enough—such a memorable experience!

We ate at Calisto last night, which ended up being quite eventful with an emergency evacuation of the venue. Five stars to the staff who acted swiftly to get everyone out safely and handled the situation calmly and professionally. Despite the situation, we were kept informed and once allowed back into the venue we were able to enjoy a wonderful night of great food and wine. Thanks to all the staff working last night!

The two of us recently dined at Callisto. The atmosphere was great; it was packed, yet it felt very peaceful. The wine was incredibly good, and the food was also incredibly delicious. The staff was also incredibly friendly. I even asked for a photo of the bottle so I could buy it, and they brought it over right away.

Great Italian food in a bustling area of Amsterdam. Their is also a very comprehensive wine list to pair with anything on the menu you would choose to eat. The atmosphere was refined, yet approachable. Would recommend for anyone looking for a nice dinner at a fair price point!

I could not recommend this place enough. The accommodated me as a solo diner in a packed restaurant on a busy Thursday. The kind host offered me a glass of wine while I waited outside. Once I was sat, every member of staff I made eye contact with stopped to have a conversation with me. It is worth visiting for the food, but the staff really steal the show and make you feel totally at home. I could not recommend this place enough, and to anyone visiting from out of town there is only one place to go !

Went yesterday with three friends and we were really impressed by the skate fish starter and the monk fish main, which were prepared to an excellent level. The rest of the food was of course also very good. Not sure about the natural wines though... :)

If you’re looking for a laid back atmosphere with a vibey crew to host yourself or for 4, I would recommend you join for dinner and get lost in Calistos charm. They serve more whole food, with a filled tummy with dishes you don’t find at these prices. Go for the small, or big pasta plates. Don’t forget to bring your vibe. Boo to the guests who take photos with flash in a dimly lit room.

Great restaurant with excellent food! The drinks are also top-notch. The menu is concise, but every dish is excellent. The service is fast and very attentive. All in all, we had a very pleasant evening here with friends and would be happy to return in the future.

Had a great evening at calisto! I didn’t get photos of every dish, but trust me everything we had was really good! The homemade butter and bread with mussels were a strong start, and the sea bass starter was another highlight maybe even my favorite. The tempura beans were decent, not mind-blowing, but the sauce definitely lifted the dish. The star of the night was the beef pappardelle: perfectly cooked pasta and beef and full of flavor. I’d absolutely recommend it. On top of the great food, we were served by Melle, whose relaxed and thoughtful service made the experience even better. He made sure everyone’s preferences were taken into account and gave great advice on the menu. All in all, a lovely evening and I’ll definitely be back soon!

Every table was full and the mood was festive when we came to Calisto for dinner earlier this week. The food was delicious and unpretentious. I only wished there were more options on the menu so I could enjoy even more.

We had a really lovely meal here at Callisto. Atmosphere was great, it was busy so I would recommend to book in advance. We arrived at 8pm, and ordered the focaccia bread to start which was fantastic. We then had the mackerel which was delicious, something we wouldn’t normally order but was really pleasantly suprised with. Our were two of the three pasta dishes on the menu. The lobster spaghetti was great however we found the zucchini linguine slightly underwhelming. For drinks we ordered a recommended red wine which was perfect, our waitress was polite and attentive and gave us great recommendations. Thank you. Overall would definitely recommend a visit here to Callisto if you are in the area or visiting Amsterdam.

This is a lovely restaurant. I’m new to the city and everyone keeps saying how underwhelming the food scene is here, so my expectations were fairly tempered. I just wanted a nice vibe and decent wine. This food exceeded my expectations. Had multiple veggie plates and two pastas. All were cooked perfectly with balanced flavour. All staff were professional and warm. Will absolutely come back.

Wonderful meal at a relaxed pace with excellent service. We had the eggplant focaccia, the mackerel in saor, the pappardelle with pork shortribs and the kammer lam (lamb sausage and lamb leg with carrot puree and beet reduction).

Typical HME hotspot with only natural wine, small portions for high prices (17 euros for a sliver of artichoke, absurd) and staff who have memorized the dishes but don't know what they are saying. So don't show any interest in 'a reduction of beetroot', because they won't get any further than that explanation.

Restaurant Calisto, located on the ground floor of Calisto hotel, is a great option for Italian cuisine in Amsterdam. With generous portions, fresh ingredients and simply delicious food, it is a great value especially by Amsterdam standards. Led by the chef Stefano Orofino, Calisto offers high quality dining experience without resorting to fancy techniques or ingredients and just sticking to classics. Their a la carte menu is on the smaller side but there's something for everyone. Along with the food, they serve a wide selection of Italian and French wines, mostly natural/biodynamic producers but also some classics as well. The atmosphere is very cozy, and you have different options to choose from dining at a table, at the bar or by the window. Service is very fast and the staff is friendly and helpful, they know their food and the wines they serve well. Even on the busiest nights, they are very attentive and do their best. If you want to make sure you enjoy your dinner slowly, I recommend going for the 2nd seating. Overall we really enjoyed our meal the last time we were at Calisto, although we overstayed our welcome :) we will definitely be back!

food was not bad (though you can find better in amsterdam) but this was ultimately spoilt by the slow food service. we waited around an hour for our main to come, and when we asked the waitress to check on the main, she said it took slower to give us a break from the appetiser. the people around us who had come way later had all received their food and were about to leave the restaurant. disappointing experience.

Delicious meal with the surprise menu. Dishes were beautifully prepared and tasted delicious. Good variety and the staff was very attentive. The wine glasses were promptly refilled. The only unfortunate point is that everything has to be done quickly because the next batch is already waiting from 8 am, which makes things a bit restless. But of course that's what you get with such a good restaurant!

This place has a great vibe and lovely service. The menu is fairly small, but that need not be a problem. The prices are fair for Amsterdam in this day and age. I really thought most of the dishes were underwhelming, despite the generous portions of sauce on each. There is much, much better pasta and Italian food in the same neighborhood (and street). So, the very high scores other people are giving should be taken with a grain of salt. I would treat it more as a bar with nice food.

I can only recommend this place! After a short wait at the bar we were able to get to our table - the friendly staff helped us take our drinks and our dog to the table and recommended great drinks and starters. Afterwards we got what was probably the best pasta I've ever eaten with octopus and bone marrow! So delicious!! It was our 2nd visit and we will definitely be back! THANK YOU

Addition to the below: the manager called me and apologized. We received money back for tip and water, the tap water should not have been paid for (only fizz). I think it was very sporty of them, they didn't think it was necessary to remove or adjust the review, but I also think they deserve credit for how they handled this. Just bare your buttocks and say sorry. Nicely resolved. ————- Not happy with this experience. 10 euros for 2 bottles of lukewarm tap water, of which it is not stated anywhere that you have to pay for it or how much. Fine to pay, but communicate it instead of putting it on the table without asking, which makes it seem free. The receipt said 'total price 311 euros' in large letters and I rounded up and paid 330. So 19 euros tip. But later it turned out that the receipt still contained a total price, but in smaller print underneath. This was 281 euros, because I had already paid 30 euros. In a busy restaurant where you have already been asked to leave, you do not have the time to thoroughly analyze the receipt, so you look at the largest printed total amount and not the smaller letters below it. So now it means that I tipped 49 euros instead of 19. The food itself was tasty, but not as good as I expected. The dirty cutlery from the starter was taken from the plates by the staff and put back on the table, which I find quite disgusting. I asked for new cutlery, but that only came after asking twice. I came here to celebrate my birthday and have a nice evening, but unfortunately I was left with a bad taste.

I am a regular here as it's my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. Delicious food, good portions & pricing. I fully trust the lovely surprise menu. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is beautiful as well as the cosy interior. There is mix of type of guests (which I love). Also: the wines, ciders and cocktails are very well selected.

we've got welcomed by a experienced and kind team of staff, quick with a joke or a light up our candle. In a cosy atmosphere we enjoyed each other, as well as delicious food and best pear-cider in town (hide for fantastic mr. fox calisto). this restaurant and team brought us in such high atmospheres that we had booked a romantic roadtrip holiday by the end of the night, 10/10!

Very noisy, but to each their own. The 'famous' eggplant balls were fried for too long (in old fat) and therefore did not taste good. Also way too much pepper.

Joined calisto for two starters, including toast with sardines. The pastas, such as fettuccine with lamb, were tasty and well seasoned. We finished with a mascarpone dessert. It was a wonderful evening in a cozy, busy setting.

Really nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Staff was really polite and helpful. We were not satisfied by the food, the dishes we tried were too spicy without being mentioned in the menu. The starter with aubergine was amazing! Dessert was a deconstructed tiramisu, which we didn’t like. In Summary, I would keep the restaurant vibes and the politeness of the staff and I would forget the food…

Did not stay overnight in the hotel, but sat in the restaurant! We sat at the back bar, a prime spot from which you can get a good view of the restaurant and kitchen. The atmosphere was very relaxed, we were helped by friendly staff and we also had a delicious meal with some cocktails. We we'll come again👍🏻

I ordered a wine by the glass and I was served a wine on tap without presenting the bottle so it could have been any concoction and there was no way to verify....... it really seems like an outlet for the c.... of the customer, of course I highlighted everything at the counter but all this will be of no use

Mediocre pastas with few ingredients that usually add flavor. (Example: pasta romanesco had a few crumbs of romanesco & undercooked pasta). Very disappointing that we were asked to leave the restaurant exactly after 2 o'clock. I made a reservation a month ago and we were planning to go all out for a birthday. When we were kicked out we hadn't even gotten to order dessert. Meanwhile, a large group of people next to us who were allowed to sit all evening and behaved very loudly and rudely. Turned out to be friends of the staff. There was a nice woman at the counter, but unfortunately nothing was done with our feedback.

Incredibly delicious and special food last Friday! There are some funky options on the menu, but that's really fun. The place was packed until late in the evening, a good sign. The food was of good quality and the price was in proportion to quality. Unfortunately, there were no mussels with the pasta (it was on the menu) and there was miscommunication about a wine to which the service did not respond very friendly. Other than that really impressed!

This is a very chilled spot to sit for a drink, u would highly recommend it. We sat outside for a drink after dinner - there is a lot of foot traffic so it’s great for people watching. The service was quick and they have a small but decent snack menu. They don’t have the usual fried things but rather serve tasty little bites. The actual dinner also looks nice but we didn’t eat. We will be back to try it out!

Absolutely wonderful food, the chefs are amazing, I especially loved the anchovies, they were so delicate and citrusy, and the butter that comes with the focaccia would make Anthony Bourdain proud. The front of house staff was so lovely, very attentive service and very informed on the wine selection - which was also great. The one thing that detracted from the otherwise perfect dinner experience was the noise. When the restaurant is 3/4 full, it is close to impossible to have a conversation with the person across the table, I would recommend the owners invest in some sound dampeners to round out the restaurant experience faultless.

I was at Calisto's today for lunch! First of all, I must say that the restaurant is in a fantastic location, a quiet and well-kept street. The restaurant is simple but cosy and glamorous! The ambience is informal and the staff super friendly! The food is great! We ate focaccia, flavored butter and anchovies very good, aubergine croquettes unforgettable, stracciatella, green beans and peaches (fresh and pleasant), a fried artichoke with fish tartare in sauce simply perfect! I will get back for sure!!

There was a “Sicily Sunday special”. We thoroughly enjoyed very special and fresh dishes, with exciting and unique flavor profiles, while enjoying a specially selected orange wine. It felt like an Italian holiday in our own country. We ordered, among other things, the frito misto (wonderfully seasoned, fresh and perfectly fried), puttanesca (homemade pasta with a chewy structure) and a fried artichoke with eel and egg yolk. I still dream about it!
