I was here as part of the oyster walk XL; what a magnificent oyster they had prepared for us with a pastis vinaigrette. Maud, the lady of the oysters, was a sparkling personality and recommended a Pouilly Fumé 2025 to accompany it.

Nice place. Good food. Fine wine. Bit overpriced.

What a delightful experience at Le French Café! With the choice of sitting comfortably by the water on the terrace or enjoying the cozy, candlelit atmosphere inside, you are instantly in the right place. The service is very friendly and attentive. The food was truly fantastic: the duck was incredibly flavorful and formed a delicious combination with the beans and vegetables, and the eggplant surprised with a lovely light smoky taste and a subtle sweetness. Be absolutely sure to order the tasty bread with homemade whipped sea salt butter with your main course! It is perfect for slurping up all those delicious dips and sauces!

I had duck confit, grilled asparagus with burrata cheese, crème brûlée, and wine. The food was generally good, and the server was very friendly. I would be willing to visit again if I travel to Amsterdam next time.

5 stars across all categories! I held my book launch at Le French Café West and everything went flawlessly and pleasantly. That's why. Highly recommended, therefore, also for corporate events.

I ended up here by chance yesterday and enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of delicious lemon cake. The service is super friendly; you are welcomed with a smile. You feel welcome and the atmosphere was pleasant. I don't experience that much anymore in Amsterdam these days. A lovely place to visit if you are in the neighborhood and want a moment of peace.

Nice place, however, I find charging €13.50 for a chocolate mousse quite steep.

Had a lovely lunch at Le French Café. Beautiful spot by the water with a large terrace. The front terrace is quite slanted, though. But the atmosphere and the flavors make up for that 100%.

The service was unprofessional from start to finish. We were initially given an outdated menu with different prices. When we pointed this out, there was no apology for the confusion. Instead, we were told rather sternly that it “wasn’t the right menu,” and the staff member immediately called her manager instead of simply discussing it with us. Later, we ordered 3 crème brûlées, but 4 were brought to our table. When we explained that we had only ordered three, the server just said that the order showed four and that he would now have to throw one away. Again, there was no apology or attempt to handle the situation professionally. The biggest issue, however, was the bill. We ordered: - 1 decaf cappuccino (€5) - 2 lemonades (raspberry mint & passion fruit citroengras) (€10 total) - 1 Pornstar Martini (€13.50) - 3 crème brûlées (€12.50 each) We were charged €101. We were enjoying our evening with our guests, so we didn’t realise at the time how high the total was. Looking back at it now, even if we had been charged for the extra crème brûlée that we never ordered, the amount still doesn’t add up. We’re returning to the café tonight to ask for an explanation and hopefully resolve the issue. Mistakes happen, but the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and apparent overcharging made this a very disappointing experience.

Very disappointing service that ruined the dinning experience

We requested a medium rare entrecôte (200g according to the menu). It came well done, see picture. The waitress was very nice to take it back and get us a new one: it came the same way again, well done. The table next to us had the same issue and they would not even exchange it to them. The waiter said to them: if we cook it medium rare we cannot cut it. How can a restaurant say this? This can only be said by someone who has no idea how to cook. And on top of it is called “French” Café, when they completely disrespect French cuisine. Additionally, the meat did not have 200g in a raw state. It looked like it had between 100-125g, please be true to your customers. The steak tartare on the other hand was delicious, thank you for this! Update: we mentioned to another waiter that the new steak they made to us was again well done, and his reasoning was: the light outside makes the meat look grey, when it actually is cooked medium rare. It made us and the tables next to us laugh, ridiculous and super disrespectful, treating clients like stupid people.

Good Foods, Good service and location. Recommended to visit and enjoyed Foods and Drinks. The food is delicious and varied. The drinks are delicious and tasty. It's perfect for dining with family, friends, and business associates.

We had a delicious meal, the service was very friendly, and the atmosphere was nice and informal. We had oysters, followed by an original entrée of blanched white asparagus with dried tomatoes, croutons, and burrata, and for the main course, aubergine and sea bream with samphire and fresh peas (which were a bit too spicy for us). Water, a few glasses of good wine, and two espressos. Surprisingly good value for money!

We each ordered the steak frites entrecôte and the medium steak with pepper sauce and were very satisfied. The service was friendly and they spoke English.

The staff was wonderful and the food was well prepared. My only disappointment was that water was offered in a carafe, I was surprised the see a hefty price on our bill...it should be mandatory that you are told in advance.

Good food, and poor service. We were asked to sit outside because we didn’t have a reservation, but then catered to poorly the entire evening. Waited nearly 30 minutes to order, received wrong drinks that needed to be corrected, no napkins or cutlery when served food and did not receive two dishes we ordered. It wasn’t about the restaurant being understaffed, but rather the staffs apathetic approach and attitude. Did not enjoy our time here. Staff should send people away if they cannot or will not offer even half decent service.

We had a really wonderful experience here! Everything was excellent from start to finish. The atmosphere is beautiful, cozy and very stylish, with a lovely view near the water. The service was outstanding the staff were extremely friendly, attentive and welcoming during the whole evening. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish looked beautiful and tasted fresh and high quality. You can really feel that the kitchen cares about details and presentation. The desserts and drinks were also amazing. What we especially appreciated was how comfortable and relaxed the whole experience felt. It’s the kind of place where you want to stay longer and come back again. We ate here at this cozy little restaurant on Sunday evening. We made a reservation just to be safe. We had asparagus, Confit de Canard, and a steak. Portions are large enough for an average eater, and a bit small for a big eater. The only downside is that the supplements have to be ordered and paid for separately. Delicious desserts. The atmosphere is typically French and cozy. We sat inside, but there is also a terrace.

What a unique place and I've never eaten such delicious oysters!!! Highly recommended.

Had dinner here tonight & was charged 5 euros for tap water. Is that usual in amsterdam? Steak was not tender.

Ah, what a shame! I’ve eaten here several times and was really looking forward to it, but today almost nothing was okay. A waitress who felt too good to provide service (no eye contact, just short of sighing), didn't bring steak knives, and then no apology when she finally brought them halfway through. I also had to walk to the bar twice because she simply couldn't be found (so Thursday wasn't busy). The haricots in anchovies were replaced by haricots plats (this was also mentioned with a sigh when I said 'hey, different haricots!') and these were watery and really inferior. The 'medium rare' steak was small and not tender enough. The béarnaise sauce really wasn't tasty. The fries! They were tasty as usual. It's a real shame that this place can't maintain its quality. And such a shame, because it's just around the corner from me and I've eaten there many times. And... choose your staff carefully! Service is key and makes or breaks your experience as a customer.

We celebrated our Valentine’s dinner at Le French Café in West. The café/restaurant is adorable, with decor that gives off charming old-school Parisian bistro vibes. As part of the Valentine’s event, there was a 3-course set menu featuring simple but classic dishes. Unfortunately, the flavors left us wanting more—nothing was terrible, but the overall experience was rather bland.

Magical, the pearl of Amsterdam, like being in Paris, delicious dishes with good wines, the snails are the best I've ever eaten, don't forget to start with the French eggs. Zana and her team provide the service at the highest level with elegance and pleasure; you have to go here. We will be going back soon to taste more.

First time here......came many times before at this place when it was Bar Spek as the terrace is perfect for lunch! All was great and food delicious etc....but I am writing this review as I want to mention the staff.....Super positive, upbeat, friendly and correct staff.....in a city known to have "uninterested" staff its very refreshing to sit at a place where its the oposite...will be my summer lunch spot for sure....and because of this devo will try their diner card too. 5 stars!

Delicious food, a lovely atmosphere, and you'll truly feel like you're in a French bistro. We really only have one tip: serve vegetables with your main course. This shouldn't be a supplement, and make sure your steak and fries are included in the three-course menu.

This was a second time here. I had such lovely time once again. Food was fantastic. As a French family we always look for restaurants that serve authentic French food and this one’s it for sure! A lovely French-style restaurant. It's great that the friendly staff speaks Dutch, unlike many other restaurants in Amsterdam. Delicious oysters and steak and fries, among other things. It's a shame the charcuterie isn't particularly French-oriented; it should be easy. Wines by the glass are expensive, but they are delicious.

A local hidden gem. We come here regularly; it's incredibly delicious (the onion soup is a must-have). And the service is amazing, no matter what you order (even if you're just stopping in for some fries, they're incredibly sweet).

I had a great time at Le French Café! We ordered the steak fries and it was great. The candles and dimmed lights really added something to the atmosphere. The food was a bit pricey, but i would definitely come back.

On Christmas Day, we found a nearby restaurant, which had reservations, closed. Le French Café was actually full, but they made room! What fantastic service, everyone so friendly and attentive, and the food was fantastic. A top-notch restaurant; we will definitely be back.

Every table has candles, the lighting is dimmed, and there’s lovely background music. At the front, they also have a nice heated terrace by the water. Compliments to the chefs as well! We had the chef’s table, sitting at the bar by the open kitchen, which was fantastic. There was great interaction with the kitchen, fun conversations, and even a complimentary dessert — such a thoughtful gesture! This is officially one of our new favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. Highly recommended!

Candles and low lights (no big light!) created a really nice vibe and the food was really yummy. We got the chicken and entrecôte frites. Anna, the waitress, was very kind and even recommended some places for us to go after. Thank you Anna! :)

Lovely spot for the first date or a cosy evening with your friend. Food was high quality, steak exceeded our expectation:) I wish service was a little more friendly because we were strict for 2 hours and they could not find us a replacement table to let us sit at the bar after.

I ate here last night. Nice concept, especially because they think of Beaujolais. The interior is beautiful, but the tables are too close together, and the service is just a bit too slow (constantly waving for a new drink). The food is substandard; the flavors of the dishes don't match, the food is too salty, and the stewed pear is undercooked. And the prices are steep, too. Due to the mediocre to bad food, I would not go here again.

Best Steak Frites, Wine Selection & all around French Cuisine that I have come across in Amsterdam. Also the first & only French brasserie I’ve been to that plays Biggie! It’s all good, baby baby.

Where do I begin? Last Friday, after a delicious dinner at a nearby restaurant, I popped into Le French for a friendly beer. I ordered my first beer at 11:00 PM, and when I ordered the second, they immediately announced it was the last round. Within three minutes, a receipt was on the table, and the waiter was there with a card reader. He asked if we could pay right away, even though the beer had barely arrived. My girlfriend then asked, "How late can we stay here?" To which the waiter replied, "Well... it depends on whether it's busy or not, but usually around 12 or 12:30 (the website says open until 1:00 AM). Meanwhile, the bar was still serving cocktails and beer for a table with a larger group. The receipt for the last round was presented to us at 11:53 PM, and there were definitely more than 15 people inside at that time. After waiting for my friend to finish her beer, I decided to ask at the bar if I could get another one. I got a strange look as if I was asking a strange question, and was told, "No, it's the last round." Beer cocktails and other drinks were still being made until 12:25 a.m. for the group that had apparently been there longer. This all paints a strange picture for me. You're not open until closing time, even though there are people in the bar. You let people who are still drinking their beer pay, telling them it's the last round. More than half an hour after you've told other guests they can't order anything else, you continue serving one table in front of the other guests. No more Le French Café for us for a while, and I think it would be wise for management to bring this matter to the attention of the staff.

The ambiance was lovely and I had a decent time overall. Service was a bit slow, and the shrimp were slightly over-salted — a few even mushy — but still enjoyable. Worth visiting if you’re in the mood for a relaxed French spot.

A stunningly beautiful interior. That. And on top of that, the friendly service. But the meal I had, Vol-O-Vent, was puff pastry with mushroom sauce. Also French. But not what my mother made. Apparently, a vegetarian version in small print. Not much. Really little. Too expensive. And TOO little.

Nicely decorated restaurant with good food but service wasn’t great. We ordered bread and despite several reminders it never arrived. We were handed the bill without having asked when the restaurant was still busy but with plenty of tables available a couple of hours before closing (so no need to rush us out) and staff were clearing the table while we were still enjoying our wine. The waitress even came with the credit card machine shortly after having put the bill on the table! At this price point the service should be better and guests should be made to feel rushed to leave

It was delicious, but I had something with salmon, and it was absolutely salty. I was thirsty the rest of the afternoon... Dear chef, you can always add salt, but you can never take it out.

We've eaten here several times and now we've had lunch with our mother. Everything was perfect again, and the service was incredibly friendly and helpful, courtesy of a woman who was working alone. The dishes were delicious and generous portions (which you also pay for), with a good bottle of red to go with them—always a good thing at Le French.

The croque was bone dry. Thick slices of brioche that had been toasted for too long and were crumbly. No béchamel or cheese, and two dry slices of ham in the middle. Unfortunately, nothing was done with the feedback.

Last Monday we made a reservation for a staff lunch. When we arrived, the road was closed for maintenance. No contact, no cancellation notice, and we had to look for another spot on the spot with a large group of people.

Took a seat on the terrace table. Food was good and especially the dish with en eel is my favorite. One thing, once we got the dish, numerous flies came around to our table and had to keep my hand shaking them away.

We'd previously had a delicious meal here, but this time it was a less-than-stellar experience. We'd made a reservation inside, but a jovial waiter suggested we might sit outside, but we'd have to be patient. The very smart waitress (who was otherwise attentive) refuted this (all five of us had clearly heard this) and started a discussion. It would be more hospitable to leave it at that and call it a misunderstanding. The food was decent, small portions, and reasonably priced. We had one bottle of wine and three courses. Including steak tartare, eel, hake fillet, and sirloin steak, along with crème brûlée and chocolate mousse (desserts were very generous portions, though). It was a shame that three of the five people had stomach problems afterward and didn't really enjoy the meal ☹️.

Great French cuisine with attentive service. Had the onion soup and the tomato salad as a starter, especially the soup was really delicious. For the main I had the chou pointu which came in a a creamy sauce and was topped with almonds, also really tasty. The service was really kind and welcoming, despite being quite a busy night!
