Café Carbòn in Zuid Pijp

Charming place and friendly service, but what terrible meat!! The cote du boeuf was terribly bad, almost impossible to chew, and all for a ridiculously high price. Tasteless meat, poorly seasoned, sour coleslaw, and baked potatoes that weren't fresh. And to top it all off... A cup of coffee was €3.50, but because we wanted D-café, we had to pay an extra €1.50, so €5.00 for a cup of coffee. A glass of port was €8.75, absolutely ridiculous. The price-quality ratio was absolutely ZERO! We felt completely ripped off! Once, but never again!!

We had a delicious meal at Cafe Carbon in Amsterdam's De Pijp neighborhood. A small café with a cozy, traditional Dutch atmosphere.

I had the lambrack. I’ve had better. The staff is very helpful and professional. The location is easily accessible by public transport.

It wasn't great. We ordered two steaks, one of which was the most expensive on the menu. We both ordered medium. The meat arrived rare, so we had to send it back. The medium was very, very tough. This shouldn't be the case at this price. The chef simply pulled the tomahawk out of a plastic bag. No preparation, no marinade, no sous vide, just straight from the stove. You'd expect the meat to be of good quality, but unfortunately, it wasn't. When we pointed this out to the waitress, her response was "Oh, okay." We won't be seeing her again.

The meat is very good and the atmosphere is ideal. The best part was the Spanish girl who served us.

The food was excellent and prepared to perfection. We spoke no Dutch, but the staff spoke excellent English and were very friendly. Highly recommend!

The food isn't bad, but it's way overpriced for what it is. It's starting to feel a bit like a tourist trap where you have to pay separately for sauces, and then they shamelessly charge you €5.50 per sauce. We had the pepper sauce, and it just wasn't good either; we left it. The steak is good, but €27.50 for 180 grams is also very expensive.

This was absolutely fantastic. The ribs and rack of lamb were incredibly tender. The kitchen works quickly, so you don't have to wait long for your food. I will definitely be back.

Our favorite restaurant in all of Amsterdam. Seriously, best ribs in the world. Get the spicey sauce on the side. Steak is full of delicious flavor and very tender. Sam, and Anushka did an awesome job as our servers. Super friendly and professional. This meal is why we keep returning to Amsterdam. Do not miss. Definitely recommend. Always will return.

We ate entrecote steak and ribs that were simply excellent. The service was good and cordial, and the prices were completely reasonable.

Great food, good service and a buzzing atmosphere. A lovely place to meet friends for a glass of wine and steak.

The pork ribs and the lamb rack are really good. We ordered the non spicy but it came spicy - not that we don't mind. It was really good! Not too spicy. Just a lil spice kick. The lamb rack was cooked to perfection. Medium well. Juicy and succulent. They don't have the strong lamb-y taste which is good. We could have ate more. The photos I posted are for 3 person with some sides. Do ask for the draft beer, especially see what they have for 'Beer of the Moment'. And the staff are nice and cheerful coming with good recommendations. Will come back again soon! Maybe for the beef steaks! Go earlier or best with reservation. This place is conveniently located by the Tram stop coming from Amsterdam Centraal - just in front of the restaurant. Or just 3 mins walk if you are taking the one towards Amsterdam Centraal. Tram number 4 I think. Thank you.

What a wonderful surprise this place was. My husband and I both thought that our steaks were one of best we have ever eaten. We loved the beer selections, salads and the fries too. We were too full for dessert.

Are you in a mood of steak, Cafe Carbon is for me the nr 1 in town, taste of the meat is a +++ service is TOP, naomi and all the team are friendly, with a big smile! Love it.

We have been coming here for a number of years, from Culemborg. About twice a year. It remains a party, nice and friendly service and super tasty food. Went again last weekend, felt familiar again. The food is so tasty, flavorful, nicely served on a large platter. It's a shame that there was little choice for the vegetarian in our midst. The meat is really delicious, no matter what you order. We were also surprised at dessert by singing staff, fireworks with dessert, and guests who spontaneously sang along. An attentive employee had noticed that we had something to celebrate, so spontaneously, without being asked, it made the evening even more special. Until next time, we are already looking forward to it.

I made a reservation and was initially seated at a high top table with the promise that I would be moved to a regular table once one became available. We noticed an empty table and asked if we could switch, as my feet were uncomfortable dangling from the high chair and the table was too small for our food. However, we were told that we had to wait for the next available table as new guests had a priority. Another table became vacant, but we were informed that other guests who had arrived before us were being seated there instead. I felt particularly disappointed when a table of three, who arrived a lot later than us and had been seated at a larger high top, got to switch to a more comfortable table halfway through our meal as soon as another guest left. Although there was a young waitress who was very sweet and apologised for the issue when I brought it up, I left feeling quite dissatisfied due to the uncomfortable seating and a lack of attentiveness in service. The meal was priced at around 35 euros per person and it is worth noting than mains do not come with sides and they do not serve tap water. While the food was alright—the tartare tasted distinctly like ossenworst, minced and sausage-like, which was not what I expected—the rack of ribs and lamb rack were alright though.

Delicious food, quick service, everything to your liking. The only downside is 5.50 extra for the pepper cream sauce! But hey, the perfectly cooked meat makes up for it.

Nice place for a great piece of meat. The place is a bit loud (noise) but the overall experience was good. Recommandable.

Honestly cannot speak highly enough for this venue. The food was beautiful and cooked to perfection the staff were attentive yet not intrusive and the atmosphere was great.

Good food, but got kicked out soon after we finished eating, they say they have reservations but not really, the resto was empty.

Super cute place, and I was looking forward to check out the steaks here. We made a reservation for a group of 7, unfortunately, one person got sick, which I mentioned upon arrival. Later on the staff complaint, and mentioned that they could have used the space for another group then. The food quality seems to be alright - The rips were a bit dry, and did not get off the bone as I would have expected, but tasted good. Unfortunately, out of two Côte de Boeuf, one ordered medium, arrived very rare, the other ordered medium arrived almost well done. I would have complaint but after the plates were on the table we did not see the waiter anymore for a while. Which brings me to my next point: I am quite sure they wanted to get rid of us fast, and over our visit we were able to order twice drinks, as we were in a separate room, this was quite annoying. That all paired with higher end prices made a rather negative impression and we paid and left right away, once food was finished.

Feels like an old timey tavern inside. Staff were so friendly and helpful, the food itself was delicious and perfectly cooked! Sauces were great, wine great for the price. All in all a fantastic restaurant - I will definitely be back !!

Good steak atmosphere i give it 3 stars because although it's tasty it dosent offer anything considerably different other than the fact that they cook over charcoal.

Good steak and beer. Only small point are the tables a bit compact and hard / sharp corners. Just be a little bit careful when sitting down. Service also good

Delicious food, a bit pricey because you have to order EVERYTHING separately (fries added for 5 euros, not a large portion) even sauces separately. Service is perfect, we often came by to ask if everything was okay and if we wanted something to drink. The atmosphere is cozy, but a lot of noise...

I went in May 2019. I'm leaving a review because I don't want to forget the taste after looking at the photo album. I recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely amazing. My husband and I have previously only ever visited the Carbòn in Zuid. This was our first visit to the one in De Pijp and it did not disappoint. The lady at the front was very kind and welcoming, and we were seated without delay. Our waitor was fabulous and really looked after us. The food is incredible and I would not hesitate to recommend it. It's well worth the price!

Restaurante Carbón is, without a doubt, a place with a special charm. From the moment you enter, the atmosphere envelops you in a warmth that makes you feel at home, and the decoration gives it a cozy touch that is difficult to find. Additionally, the service is exceptional; The staff is super friendly and attentive, always willing to advise you and make you feel welcome. We let ourselves be guided by their recommendations and we have no regrets at all. We tried the chorizo ​​with chimichurri, a very fresh caprese salad and a grilled meat that was simply spectacular. Everything of outstanding quality, you can see the care and affection in each dish. Another detail that we loved was the bread, made daily, which arrives at the table with three different sauces, each one more surprising and delicious than the last. A real pleasure for lovers of good home cooking. Congratulations to the entire Carbón team for creating this very special experience. I will return without hesitation.

The perfect ribs; great taste, amazing sauces, very juicy, a lot of meat, and a huge portion. If I ever want ribs in Amsterdam — I'll just come back here. It's absolutely worth the money but I would definitely recommend sharing it with someone as the portion size is a little too much for smaller people.

The food was delicious. Definitely for meat lovers and the desserts were out of the world. The steak (medium-rare) was nice and juicy. The ribs (spicy version) were finger licking. From the dessert sticky toffee pudding stood. To top it off, the waitresses were really friendly and the decor gave a rustic feeling. Overall great experience

A nice restaurant! I thought the service was really great and very attentive, and the atmosphere was nice - lots of space per table. I thought the portions were quite small, so I would definitely choose a different option next time. Overall I’d definitely go back!

The atmosphere and service was fine. My friend and I did get sick from the chicken though. Flavour was honestly great but it was most likely undercooked.

Very disappointed with how this visit went. Ordered the côte de boeuf as medium but it came as rare (can be seen on the upper part of the picture). Told the waitress this and she took the meat back to the kitchen only to come back 10 minutes later with the same steak but now as almost well done (can be seen on the lower right side). Ate what was possible to eat which in this case was about 40% of the original steak (can be seen on the lower left side) since my wife was pretty much done with her dish. Told the waiter this while he was taking away our dishes and asked him for the bill which he forgot to bring. Instead asking again but in this case the waitress and once the bill came there were no deduction. Went inside and discussed the entire experience with the manager and asked for some kind of deduction, but no. Full price had to be paid with the explanation that I should have said something about the steak being well done before she brought out the bill. NOT recommended.

How wonderful it was!!! I have never eaten his delicious carpaccio, steak tartare meats and dessert 🤤🤤🤤 The service and atmosphere are also really great! I'm coming all the way from the other side and it takes about an hour to get there, but it's really worth it and highly recommended! I will go back there soon to have a nice coffee! Haha you won't get anywhere with that, it's TOO tasty and very friendly. Quality ambiance, everything great. I'm still enjoying it. Very strange behavior by the owners. Will not come back. First time in a restaurant in the Netherlands I pay 200 euro on a bill and they don’t allow to get tap water. Pure greedy. Also chairs were very uncomfortable and when switched to another we were told we’ll need to change back even though it was empty. Do not recommend and would not come back. Good was ok, not more. The Zuid branch is much better.

We were recommended Cafe Carbon by our hotel for steak, so thought we'd give it a try. Maybe it was an off day, but our steak (cote de boeuf) wasn't the best I'd ever had. It was well seasoned, however it wasn't the greatest quality with lots of sinew in it. The sides good and varied, however the sauces were a little flavourless. Disappointing.

First time at Café Carbòn was a delightful experience! The food was hands down spectacular ! We started by sharing the chorizo and chimichurri and kaassoufles which were delicious. Then my partner got the bavette steak and I got the ribeye and chips for sharing. My only regret was not getting my own portion of chips as they stole the show for me! We finished off our dinner with the crème brûlée that came with a yummy vanilla ice cream, whip cream and caramel sauce. I highly recommend checking out this place the next time you’re in Amsterdam! Expensive but well worth it!

Delicious cuisine, the Ribs are tasty. In desert a creme brulee is incredibly delicious. 😊 I highly recommend going there and the service is very friendly. 👍🏼

Their ribeye and tenderloin steaks were among the best we’ve ever tasted with the delicious char on the steaks. Their fries were also very delicious

The steak was so salty, cole slaw was watery, and the smoked ribeye was an abomination against all that is holy (it was served with a half liter of mayonaise on top). Beer selection is pretty generic. Hot wings were proper hot, but just the one spicy flavor note. That said, service was good and the sweet potato fries were solid, so points for that. Atmosphere is cool. It may have just been an off night.

My steak was amazing...the desserts were pretty good and surprisingly big. What got me the most was the bread: fresh and authentic. I wasn't very happy with the chimichurri sauce, but to be honest the service was so nice that I did not care at all. I will return, and I will try the ribs coz they looked really tasty.

This place is a super good place for all meat lovers. The minute you see the menu, you know that they play meat business in all its kinds. The plates that came were super tasty and really full filling. Of course the price would range depending on the meat and how many grams. Their add ons were also super delicious. It's used to be a lot better, the chorizo is not a real chorizo, the spare ribs arrived lukewarm and often when we ordered steak it arrived cold in the middle, made "blue" though we ordered medium (medium os defined as internal temperature of about 58 degrees). The service was good and drinks are good, they just need to increase the level of their food.

Cosy, cozy, good bubble wine, friendly and attentive service, and very good meat! There were five of us and we got the table by the window. It is fairly dark inside, with lots of light from candles, which gives it a nice atmosphere. But of course we came for the meat. As a starter we had the carpaccio and the steak tartare. Both dishes were large enough to share. Carpaccio was fine, nothing to complain about. It's nice that it is served on a papadum, for the crunch. The steak tartare (large portion) was really enough for 4! This was served fully prepared, with a soft fried egg and garlic bread to serve. The flavors are also quite good. I didn't necessarily miss anything, but putting together your own steak tartare also has its charm. For mains we had the cote du boeuff and the t-bone steak, both medium rare. Both were well grilled and juicy, tender and tasty! They can certainly prepare meat here! Small downside, the fries, both normal and sweet potato, could really be doubled in terms of portion. Especially for that price it was a really poor container.

Good food and very friendly service. However, it is advisable to ask for the price of things that are not on the menu. They have 4 different sauces on the menu for €1 each. We asked if they also had pepper sauce because it was not on the menu. That was there, but we found out that it was 5.5 times as expensive as the other sauces when paying. Not very neat.

El lugar es acogedor, y la calidad de la comida es perfecta. Hemos pedido 2 trozos de carne grandes y aunque alomejor no era tanta cantidad como esperabamos todo estaba muy bueno. El precio es elevado pero acorde con la comida. El único problema es que nos han sentado al lado de una sala donde habian 20 holandeses pirados que no paraban de gritar. La comida muy buena pero tener a un ruido constante al lado la hace peor. Que pena con lo bueno que estaba!

Loved the dark moody vibes. It was the perfect meal for a rainy day! Delicious spicy ribs and the chimichurri sauce was absolutely amazing 🤩🤩🤩 The cocktails were a little weak but the food more than makes up for it! Will definitely be visiting again and again

Gezellige sfeer, persoonlijke bediening en heerlijk eten. De tartaar was super smaakvol en gent steak was super mals.

We had a great evening at the Café Carbòn. The service was super fast and very friendly. We were amazed by the quality of the food and speed of the kitchen staff. The chef at this place is a magician - he delivers miracles out of a small kitchen.
