Well, what can I say? The food was tasty and well-prepared, but it felt a bit forced. They're trying to serve haute cuisine, but in my opinion, they're overdoing it with the combinations, and especially the portions. I've been to several luxury and Michelin-starred establishments, but this one was rather meager in terms of portions. The wine pairing needs attention; the only pairing where the drink complemented the dish was the port with the cheese board. With all the other dishes, the wine didn't enhance the food, and the food didn't enhance the wine. Our request for a refill was met with "I'll have to ask the manager," to which neither the refill nor any other response was forthcoming. I expect better value for money for €115 per person, especially since we only had a 4-course dinner.

Begin mei zijn we met 17 personen te gast geweest bij Nicky ter gelegenheid van een bijzondere verjaardag. Iedereen heeft enorm genoten van de smaakvolle gerechten, zoals kalfspastrami, roodbaars, Thaise garnalen, lamsfilet en een dessert naar keuze. De geserveerde huiswijnen completeerden het geheel. De bediening onder leiding van Sef was vriendelijk en behulpzaam, het ontbrak ons aan niets. Alle gasten waren na afloop unaniem van mening dat we geen beter verjaardagsdiner hadden kunnen treffen. Soms om je vingers er bij af te likken………..😃

We had dinner here last Thursday. The restaurant is inconspicuous from the outside - when you enter you immediately see the beautiful, cozy lounge area. The restaurant area is also beautifully modern. The service is super friendly and the whole atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxed. We had a 4 course menu - and it was very, very good. High quality ingredients and presentation. The price-performance ratio is more than good. If you want to eat high-quality, delicious food in the border area, you're in good hands here.

Had a delicious meal here for the first time. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and owner. A knowledgeable explanation was given for each dish with a matching wine. Every plate was a joy to look at. I have a lactose intolerance and was previously asked if there were any allergies or intolerances. This is of course indicated. A pain-free and carefree evening of delicious dining and real enjoyment with a capital G!! Definitely worth repeating!

Gezellige avond in heerlijk ongedwongen sfeer. We hadden voor het 5 gangen menu met bijpassend wijnarrangement gekozen . Heerlijke gerechten in combinatie met mooie wijnen die top waren en uit verassende landen en streken kwamen. Het eerste gerecht schot in de roos Tartaar van zeebaars, met skyr en garnituren. Licht verfijnd, fris, klein zuurtje met de perfect bijpassende muscadet sur lie. Daarna de coquille met iberico ham en een zachte salie saus, geserveerd werd een mooie verassende wijn van de Pecorino druif. De scampi's met de oosterse currysaus kun je niet wegdenken bij Chez. Daarbij een Chardonnay/Pinot Grigio uit Roemenië met een restzoetje prima bij het lichte pikantje in de saus. De eendenborst filet met een jus van vadouvan brioche met rilette van eend. Daarbij een rode houtgelagerde Catalaanse wijn uit Emporda. Twee van de vijf gingen voor een zoet nagerecht en 3 xkaas. Bij het nagerecht een wijn van de Ortega druif iit Duitsland. Bij de kaas een half glaasje witte en rode port, beide 10 jaar gerijpt. Deze mooie avond werd afgesloten met koffie en likeur. Het is helaas voorbij de herinnering blijft

After the renovation it has become even more beautiful and spacious. A plus is that the tables are not close together. Very nice dishes, with a matching wine arrangement that has been carefully thought through. Sea bass tartare was excellent, as was the scallop. The classic oriental-style scampi should never be left off the menu. The duck with vadouvan gravy was very tasty. We finished with a cheese dessert, the nice thing was we got 2 small glasses of port, a 10 year old white and red port. The other wines were also very good, the nice thing is they go off the usual path and often something unknown is served. It was a very successful evening thanks to the Chez l' Hetre team

Toevalstreffer of voltreffer, dat tweede klopt beter. Mijn voorkeurrestaurant in Venlo is dicht op dinsdag, Chez l'Hêtre werd als alternatief voorgesteld. Ik was er nooit geweest maar ik woon er ook al jaren niet meer. Dit was fantastisch, een soort verrassingsmenu met keuze uit 3 tot 7 gangen. Ik ben niet de grote eter dus gekozen voor de 5 gangen. Vooraf twee amuses, kleine smaakbommetjes (ik ervaar dat ook met echte Vlaamse pralines). Dan een tartaar van zeebaars, een klein kunstwerkje, achteraf waren eigenlijk alle gerechten kunstwerken. Daarna coquille met iberico ham, gevolgd door gamba's in een currysaus (ik vergeet de rest van de ingrediënten). De gamba's moesten we nog uit hun 'jasje' pellen, we kregen wel al van die natte doekjes om onze vingers schoon te maken. Dit was het gerecht waar je letterlijk je vingers bij af kon likken, een dubbele portie had ik ook zo weggewerkt, misschien wel het beste gerecht wat we voorgezet kregen. Dan als hoofdgerecht eend met van alles, frietjes erbij met een lekkere mayonaise. Ter afsluiting i.p.v. het nagerecht kozen we voor een kaasschotel, lekker maar minder dan de rest. Het restaurant heeft de optie 'bijpassende wijnen', mijn gast maakte daar gebruik van , ik moest echter - en dat was echt spijtig - nog 140 km rijden naar huis, dus noodgedwongen dronk ik enkele alcoholvrije biertjes en bruiswater. achteraf nog een espresso. Ik heb genoten van een avondvullend programma van 6 tot 10. Uiteraard mede door het team dat ons soigneerde. Over de prijs, niet goedkoop maar voor wat we kregen kan ik het ook niet echt duur vinden. Ik ga af en toe eens naar een sterrenrestaurant, Chez l'Hêtre zou er van mij ook een mogen hebben. Het is jammer dat ik zo'n roteind weg woon anders zagen ze me hier vaker.

I came to this place when it used to be Chez Philippe. Nicky has completely renovated it and made it his own and the atmosphere is great, the service is great and the food is fantastic. Definitely recommended!

Auf der Suche nach einem guten Restaurant in Venlo, sind wir im Chez L'Hetre "gelandet" und waren positiv überrascht. Sowohl das Essen als auch das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis haben uns voll überzeugt. Ebenfalls muss ich die Lage in der City hervorheben, wo wir mitten im Geschehen waren, was uns gefällt. Der recht junge Service erledigte seinen Job zu unserer vollsten Zufriedenheit und wir werden ganz sicher wiederkommen...

Datum 1 juni 2024 De dochter en partner hadden ons en de andere ouders uitgenodigd voor een diner en de dochter wist dat mijn vrouw en ik van goed en lekker eten houden dus had ze bij Chez L’Hêtre gereserveerd. Eenmaal aan tafel zei ik tegen de anderen, laat jullie verrassen van de heerlijke smaken die hier worden bereid. We hadden voor het verrassingsmenu gekozen. Wederom goede gerechten met heerlijke smaken in balans. We hebben genoten van al het heerlijks. Dank jullie voor de heerlijke gerechten en de goede en fijne bediening. Wij hadden de verbouwing nog niet gezien. Voor het eten heb ik even met de chef gesproken en ik had al gezegd dat de verbouwing een verbetering is van de ruimte en indeling. Ook het gebruik van geluiddempende materialen is goed gelukt, ik had veel minder hinder van omgevingsgeluiden. Klasse aanpassingen. Wederom weer een geweldige avond mede door het heerlijke eten en goede bediening.

Chez l’hêtre is a place with a the most delicious food, the flavors of the dishes combine together giving incredible final result! The chef and all the staff is on the higher level, the serving is great. The care from the waiters is amazing, they pay much attention to advising and serving and that combines perfectly with the level of the served food. Can’t wait to visit again! Big recommendation!

Delicious food, the new decor is fantastic and therefore you are in a cozy atmosphere. All dishes were excellent. We had a 3-course meal with a delicious bottle of Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape Cod with risotto was sublime, as were the bisque and the pork belly with sweetbreads. Sufficient bread is served and the main courses include fries with parsley mayonnaise. The green mayo is separate, but very tasty. Unfortunately we had to end this pleasant evening early, but we would have loved to order the frikandel special for dessert. Very original idea and, as we heard, a delicious dessert. We had the best night at Chez l'Hetre. <3 We celebrated our after-wedding-dinner with our marriage witnesses here and chose the 5 course menu. We had fantastic food, fantastic service ad just a perfect night. For this special celebration, we even got invited to the aperitivos and the dessert was served with a little table firework and nice words! This is our second visit for dinner and nothing has changed for the last year - food is excellent, ambience is just perfect and the staff is well-trained. My husband and I were discussing that this restaurant really deserves a Michelin star, but it is somehow good that it hasn’t received one wet, because the moment a restaurant becomes a Michelin member it gets more pretentious. And this restaurant is not - just as classy as a good restaurant should be, but with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

Atmosphere is still good and pleasant, quality of food is good (but unfortunately was better in the past). Service was "youthful" and occasionally a bit "messy", sometimes people seemed to have lost the overview. Furthermore, prices (just like in ALL other catering establishments) have been significantly adjusted after Corona. But it remains a nice evening program to eat here.

The dishes were generally excellent with the exceptional experimental miss . Service depended on the waiter . The young lady was very friendly but the two young gentlemen were oldfashionedly haughty . However our evening ended very unpleasantly because of some guests. A drunken group took their coffee next to us and they were incredibly loud. I guess they were asked to move there because they were annoying the neighbouring tables in the restaurant's central area but it spoiled the experience for us ( we were sitting in a nook of the restaurant). I would also recommend they hang their lamps higher, as tall people will otherwise find them looking at the hood of the lamp instead of their dinner partner

After a pleasant welcome, you take a seat in the attractive lounge. Drinks and an appetizer are served while you view the menu. Our choice was a la carte. Delicious dishes that are pleasantly served. The staff is very friendly and happy to help you with your wine choice. Dishes come with a good break in between. We had a wonderful and pleasant evening. 5 stars!

It had been too long since we had been to Chez l'Hetre. Delicious food and drinks, every bite was a culinary thrill 😉

For this price I expected much more. Putting a colleague at our table to poop is, to say the least, inappropriate

The location is beautiful and the food is delicious. However, I do not appreciate that we had to wait 40min in the lounge area before we were seated at our table. Even though I had a reservation. Also, the time between the courses took too long. I can not imagine how much time people spent there when taking all 7 courses. We left after 3 and we will probably not visit again. Last but not least, all the waiters are very young and awkward.

The place looked very promising for a nice night out. The food is really good and the waiters polite. Unfortunately we had to leave after the 1st course, the waiting time was way too long. We arrived at 7:30pm and at 8:45pm we were only served with the first meal of the menu, at this speed we would finish at midnight. As we were here for travelling this was not possible.

Head to Venlo in time to explore the city and have an introductory lunch. A large and cozy shopping center with several old buildings made our walk definitely worthwhile. Our landmark was a narrow facade with a red awning and stained glass windows. We walked into the cozy lounge with bar, behind which the open kitchen and attractively decorated restaurant, which was clearly larger than the facade suggested. As an aperitif the Maximum Brut Blanc de Blancs from Ferrari was excellent. Including a beetroot meringue with a slice of beetroot finished with a dollop of chive cream and a crispy nest of Parmesan cheese with anchovy cream finished with a tomberry, very tasty. Next to it a delicious oyster with blood orange caviar in a Jack Daniels-based vinaigrette. A layered taste experience, fine. The first companion was briefly presented, Barrel Select Sauvignon Blanc 2021 from Montes, made in a sun-ripened style with notes of tropical fruit. The chef himself presented the first course. A flat cylinder of salmon tartare with a cream of vadouvan, quenelle pumpkin chutney, openwork crispy and coriander leaves, surrounded by dollops of coriander cream and pumpkin puree, finished at the table with a sauce of yoghurt with coriander. Full flavors with an Asian twist. For me, the wonderfully acidified and slightly spicy pumpkin chutney was the real seasoning, the salmon provided a nice texture and the wine matched perfectly. (8) From Spain a Mabre Empordà 2021 from Empordàlia, floral aroma with notes of citrus fruit in the mouth and subtle bitterness in the aftertaste. On a black plate an onion ointment with tuna tataki, stewed veal steak, red onion chutney, shiitake covered with juniper bacon and crispy nori, with a dashi vinaigrette with sweet and sour meloeskes. A fairly complex dish with full flavors and soft textures that were complemented by the acidity of the wine. (8) From Romania, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris 2021 from Dropia for a real classic from the company (approx. 25 years). Fried prawns on a bed of crispy pak choi and bean sprouts in a Thai red curry sauce finished with slices of spring onion. A real flavor bomb, mildly spicy with excellent textures that blended seamlessly with the wine.
