The best Kotsi Arni (lamb shank) in town—not just in Utrecht (the chef agrees 😎), but in our opinion, in the whole Netherlands! (We have been to many Greek restaurants in Amsterdam and in Greece as well) Today was our 5th visit, and Kotsi Arni has been our go-to dish every single time. The quality of the food and the service has been consistently outstanding since our very first visit in 2023. Every visit has been just as enjoyable as the last. We’ll definitely keep coming back because it’s clear how much passion and pride the chef puts into every dish. It’s rare these days to find a restaurant that maintains the same high standards, generous portions (really a lot), and delicious flavors year after year! Thank you for another wonderful meal, chef! We had a really delicious meal last night! The atmosphere is very cozy thanks to the staff, who are very welcoming, and the food is incredibly tasty. It felt like I was in Greece for a little while. Thanks Dikkertje! I'll be back soon.

Went to this Greek restaurant for the first time because it was supposed to be better than Irodios! What a disappointment; the food was too greasy, too salty, and tasted like nothing. The gyros were rock-hard pieces and full of fatty meat. The portions were also small; when you point this out, the owner doesn't care, shrugs his shoulders, and walks away. Never again for us!

This place is an authentic Greek restaurant. Portions are huge. Food is fantastic and service is excellent. I recommend the mixed grill to try everything as they make excellent meats.

I loved the food at this place. I ordered a souvlaki and a Greek salad and felt like I'd stepped back into Greece. It was very well done, the staff was very friendly, and the place has a Greek vibe, with music from there. I would definitely go back.

In an era where new haute cuisine and fine dining concepts are flying at you from all sides, restaurant Dikkertje is delightfully uncomplicated. Here, it is all about authentic Greek dishes at a fair price. No fuss, just gyros, souvlaki, and tzatziki the way they should be. Five stars!

A very atmospheric restaurant with excellent value for money and delicious food. The owner works in the kitchen himself, and you can tell every time by the top quality of his food! There were four of us. The starters arrived quickly, which was very nice as we were quite hungry. Afterwards, they even asked when we were ready for the main courses, which we found very pleasant. The service is very friendly and helpful and is always ready to assist you with a smile. Highly recommended!

We tried the ‘Greek Night’ here with 4 people. In itself, that was a good choice in terms of food: the quality and taste of the dishes were fine, and the portions were more than sufficient to leave feeling satisfied. But unfortunately, the rest of the experience was quite disappointing. First of all, the comfort – the restaurant is small and the temperature inside was unpleasantly high. Even without being full, it was on the edge of what you could call acceptable as a guest. Not a good start. Then there is the service story, and that is where the real problem lies. A few examples: · Ordering a “large” beer? You get a standard 33cl glass. That is not a large size anywhere. · You get the first bottle of beer neatly with the matching branded glass, but for the second round you have to ask for it yourself. Ordering two glasses of wine? It took almost an hour – there were no clean glasses left, because they were in the dishwasher. · Ordering a large bottle of water for 4 people? “We don’t have those, only small bottles.” That feels strange, especially when you order multiple drinks that are already being delayed due to a lack of glassware. The way the food was served was also chaotic. The waitress brought the dishes in the order they were ready, without explanation. She put a plate down, turned around, and quickly called out what it was – if you weren’t paying attention, you wouldn’t even know what you were eating. A short pause to explain what was being served would help so much. At one point, the table was so full of appetizers (hot and cold) that there was no room left for the main courses. When we tried to make room ourselves, the waitress seemed to want to walk away empty-handed rather than take the empty plates with her. That made no sense at all. We looked around and saw several empty tables that were still completely covered in dirty plates and glasses. There weren't even many guests – I don't want to know what happens when it actually gets busy. New guests would then have to wait simply because no one is clearing the table. Attention to the guest is lacking. You really have to make an effort to show a waitress that you want to order something else. When we finally succeeded, the response was: “I only have two eyes, I can’t see everyone.” That is not a pleasant message for a paying guest. Positive: the food tasted good and you don't leave hungry. Negative: the service, the lack of logistics in the establishment, the heat, and the lack of attention to detail cause the balance to tip completely. My advice to the restaurant – genuinely intended to help – would be: Teach your staff to look better. Clear empty plates and glasses immediately, even from empty tables. Create space for the guests. Ensure that clean glasses are always ready. Explain what is being served with the dishes. And do something about the temperature in the establishment. These are not unreasonable requests; this is basic hospitality. Unfortunately, it was too much for us. We will not be coming back here. For those who want to eat Greek food: the kitchen is capable, but the experience as a whole makes it unpleasant.

Amazing Greek restaurant. The name might make you think it isn't authentically Greek, but you couldn't be further from the truth! A delightful (family-owned?) restaurant where you immediately feel the Greek atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Easily one of the best restaurants on the entire Amsterdamsestraatweg. The meat is of unparalleled quality, and it feels like you are truly in Greece for a moment. I highly recommend the gyros, bifteki, and tzatziki in particular! A great place to take children as well. The prices are very acceptable, especially for the quality of the food. I have been here several times already and will definitely be back!

Chance brought us to this lovely greek gem in Utrecht. We celebrated my friend’s bachelorette, and honestly had an amazing time. The food, the people and the vibe were one of a kind. It’s one of the memories I will hold for many years to come.

Very friendly atmosphere. Even when the kitchen is busy, the service is friendly. The dishes are all made from excellent ingredients and the portions are not small. As a hot appetizer, I ordered puff pastry pies with feta from the oven and leg of lamb with salad and rice. Price/quality is excellent. But it’s better to book in advance, since even on a weekday there may not be a free table. The restaurant was recommended by locals.

Absolutely amazing place, with great food and warm atmosphere. Don't forget to book a table!!! We were walking ~2.5km from our location and we were fully happy on arrival . Lamb (kotsi arni) was amazing, trapini (as a warm starter) was perfect, draft affligem blond beer was really good and fresh) and ouzo was really good, no chemistry and very tasty :) Will miss this place!

Food was good and tasty but not wow 8+. Sound technically it is very loud. where you can no longer hear your guests. And the people who smoke in front of the door and then smell the smells coming in is not really desirable. Let alone the draft when the door opens.

While looking for a new Greek restaurant, we ended up at Dikkertje on the Amsterdamsestraatweg. This restaurant has fully lived up to its good name. The restaurant itself is small, nice, and exudes Greece. Upon entering you will be warmly welcomed by the owner and the service is top-notch. The menu offers a lot of choice, and what we got on the table was very tasty, well seasoned and certainly not too little. Personally, I thought it was a shame that we got Heineken on tap, but it soon turned out that they also serve Hertog Jan from the bottle here. That made it perfect. Definitely worth a visit and nice that we have a permanent address if we fancy delicious authentic Greek food in Utrecht.

If you want to feel like you are in Greece, you should definitely go to Het Dikkerdje! This cozy, busy restaurant is buzzing with atmosphere and hospitality. Our evening started with a delicious Greek twist: as a starter we enjoyed perfectly prepared sardines and tender eggplant with cheese, straight from the oven. We couldn't choose the main course, so we went for the mixed grill - but without pork. The owner personally came by to tell us that this was unfortunately not possible, but he offered a delicious alternative with a smile: lamb chops and leg of lamb from the oven. Well, we didn't say no to that! Both the starters and desserts were delicious. The Fatty? A piece of Greece in your own country, with flavors to come back for!

Here you eat REALLY Greek. Delicious squid as a starter. Often eaten in Greece but never seen on the menu in the Netherlands, except here. Although it is a bit of a drive, we will definitely come back here.

Gezellig restaurantje. Druk en knus. Bediening is onervaren en niet oplettend. Spreken geen Nederlands. Op zich niet erg maar wij hadden nogal communicatie stoornis. Zelf in t Grieks lukte het niet. Eigenaar was druk in de keuken dus heeft dat niet opgemerkt. Ik denk dat het gewoon te druk was. Verder wel tervreden over de kwaliteit van het eten. Volgende keer maar doordeweeks een keer proberen. Prijs is prima.

We love Dikkertje. This restaurant is our neighborhood’s greatest pride. It’s old school, really authentic and cozy. In all honesty, I’m done with all those restaurants in Utrecht that try hiding their kitchen mediocrity with an overload of Instagram-friendly decorative sphere. I say this to point out that Dikkertje is completely the opposite of that nonsense. Their kitchen is serious and authentic (following my Greek friends), the decoration reflects the owners personal character and I love that honesty. Grilled octopus, haloumi, gyros, lamsbout stew, moussaka, and swordfish are our favorite dishes. Children menus are really nice, they include ice cream.
