Restaurant Het Oude Tolhuys in Wijk 05 Oost

We had lunch with a group last Thursday. The food was really mediocre. The carpaccio salad came with no dressing and no Parmesan cheese. Underneath the carpaccio sandwich, they had simply shoved two soft slices of white bread. Unfortunately, we will be going somewhere else next time.

Food okay. Weird atmosphere with nobody else there and decor was a bit dated. That said, wasn’t the worst meal I’ve had and was relatively reasonable priced (aside from them charging more for the wine than it was listed for on the menu).

We had a very pleasant and delicious meal. We could order all kinds of drinks. Extensive menu. We sat outside on the terrace. It couldn't have been better.

Everything is super delicious and they are very hospitable 🫶🫶 The surroundings are also super beautiful and peaceful

Perfect example of Dutch expensive and not tasty at all food. Oil for bitterballen seem never has been changed and smell of it can tell you. The cutlet of signature burger is awful.

Excellent service; they came back to prepare the fish. The burger comes with plenty of BBQ sauce. Ample parking. We come here because of the family's strong preference. 2026 Did not see any rats, but it was busy enough. A big difference compared to the visits in 2019 and 2023.

It was very hot there, I think that was the reason they didn't come by regularly to ask for drinks. Ordered dessert at 21:15, and at 21:45 they came to tell us it was no longer possible. Two bottles of beer were brought for two people, one of which came with a glass. A bit of a shame.

Had a delicious meal, truly the best hamburger ever. Very cozy terrace and friendly staff. Highly recommended, and the satay was also incredibly tasty.

Nice outside, good food and drinks, and great staff. Inside, a dark hole with barely any lighting; toilet inaccessible in the dark.

It is lovely to spend time here. Lots of different, cozy spots inside and out. And nice and close to the swimming pool and canoe rental. QUESTION: Until about two years ago, there were those lovely rocking chairs hanging here. Could they please come back? 🤩😍🙌

I had the best Flammkuchen (the one with goat cheese) of my life there! The atmosphere was great, really nice to sit outside and enjoy. Toilets and everything was super clean. Me and my friend initially just wanted to enjoy a drink and go to the toilet but we ended up staying longer.

A place of peace in a busy area. I settled down here to avoid the traffic. Nice atmosphere, like you're sitting in the woods. You are, in a way, but then again, not really, because the traffic jam on the A28 is not far from here. Had a delicious Tolhuys burger with good fries on the side + a drink. It cost me less than 25 euros. Highly recommended; I might come here more often.

Had a delicious lunch at Tolsteeg after a funeral. The tasting menu is recommended. However, there was too little staff to serve, so the tables were not cleared promptly. But otherwise, an excellent location and a fine lunch. Nice and cozy atmosphere.

3 beers 21 euros. With the emphasis on 'small ones'. Very small glasses that weren't even filled. Waited 35(!) minutes for them to be brought. The staff really do try their best, but their employer is clearly cutting corners on experience and, consequently, the hourly wage. The location is great, but the restless atmosphere on the terrace (it took a veeeery long time for orders to be served) is the result of the owner's policy. Tip for the owner: Go help out with the service yourself and receive the complaints yourself instead of the youthful staff.

Nice place, good food, good service

This evening was a major disappointment. Before we went to see Jong Utrecht play against VVV, we wanted to grab a bite to eat. Unfortunately, the service took an unbelievably long time. We waited an hour for a burger and a sandwich. And after the first bite, we realized the burger was still raw in some parts. We were also only offered one drink in the two hours we were there, while the guests who arrived after us were served much faster and received their food first. When we came outside, we saw almost all the staff smoking outside, and the servers had consumed four more drinks than us.

Enjoy delicious food in a beautiful setting with a cozy atmosphere. The service is excellent and welcoming. In short, definitely recommended!

A really nice spot to stop for a break during a walk! It's beautifully situated along the path, and the apple pie was delicious :) It was also quite quiet in the afternoon, so there was plenty of space to sit, which was also nice.

The food was good, but the staff were students who were discussing what was and wasn't acceptable. There were many large groups; we were in the cafe, but there were no candles lit; it was dark. I can imagine it would be cozy and welcoming with the fireplace and candles. But the food was delicious.

We had a wonderful meal for six people! Everything was served at the same time. Well-prepared, deliciously tender meat. The service was excellent, as was the price-quality ratio.

It's not what it used to be. Time for a new menu and a new chef. Last time, I was served a truly disgusting salad (even my table companions didn't like it, to put it mildly). Nothing was done about the complaint. So, we're looking for another restaurant near the pool where they still prioritize customer service.

Nice spot just outside the city. Great menu, excellent food, very busy, sometimes a bit of a wait. You can also rent a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and go for a paddle. The restrooms are a bit of a walk away.

After a FC Utrecht match we always pass by Het Oude Tolhuys. This time we decided to have a bite to eat. What friendly service and the food was also very tasty. Prices still affordable. Will definitely come again. Tip: Tolhuysburger was delicious.

A great location for lunch and dinner or a good drink. It is clearly noticeable that the lunch section is not very well suited to larger groups... Satay is good! Is grilled instead of coming straight from the warming container.

Wonderful location. I always like to cycle there (when it's dry). When it is warm, it is nice to be outside and nice and warm inside when it is cold. Food and drinks, very well organised. Tip: take the Tolhuys Burger. Service is good, although they are short of hands when it is very busy. Recommended!

Great place where we had drinks with a large group. This was perfectly arranged in beautiful surroundings. Afterwards we were actually just too late (I only found out afterwards), but it was no problem at all to have a spontaneous meal with a small group. Which was also delicious. Thank you!

I don't really understand where the negative reviews come from, it really is a fantastic restaurant. Everyone is correct and friendly, but especially the food was delicious. We eat out weekly and this restaurant without a doubt deserves a 5 star rating from me. The price/quality ratio is also excellent, especially because fresh products are used.
