The food was really flavorful with complexity in an amazing way. The selection of wines was also perfect. We enjoyed the dinner. It deserves five stars, but for me the portion was too small. If you are hungry, you'll need to order side dishes (I had a 4-course menu with wine pairings).

IDD gets it. Beautiful food, wonderful down to earth and professional service and above all a great atmosphere. The wine list is fantastic, and if you have a special platter to display the cork, you know that wine is very important here. What stood out was the service. Wonderfully accessible, personal and certainly professional. If you could award a star in Leiden, IDD is, in my opinion, one of the contenders. Will definitely come back again!

We visited the place as a family of four, we got served with the IDD menu, which were very delicious and well worth the spending. Each course was well presented, creative and tasted excellent. The IDD restaurant deserves a recommendation in Leiden. Everything was perfectly arranged and tasteful balanced food, together with the wine selection. Service was smooth, efficient and ever-present. However the noise level is a challange at some stage. The overall experience was excellent and we will be back - again!

The modernized version of the classic 'Leiden stew' was not only visually stunning, but also a revelation in terms of taste, with deep, layered flavors that were perfectly balanced. The sommelier deserves a special mention; his knowledge and passion for wines were impressive. He helped us with personal recommendations that took our meal to the next level, and his friendly, approachable manner completed the experience. We were also impressed by the attention to detail in both the presentation of the dishes and the decor of the restaurant, which contributed to an unforgettable evening. Ate here again yesterday after a long time and it has not lost any of its quality. Excellent menu and expert, friendly and not too stiff service. The highlight for us was the cod with rendang. This deserves to be promoted to main course. It's that we don't live in Leiden, otherwise we would definitely come here more often.

From the amuse onwards, explosions of taste are served here, supplemented with delicious wines. IDD never disappoints. We regularly go to a restaurant with one or more Michelin stars. We come back to In Den Doofpot every time. It would be good for my wallet if that star were left out for a while, but I actually don't understand why one hasn't been awarded yet. Dennis and Auke elevate personal hospitality to a new level, without stiff fuss but tailored to the person you are sitting at the table with. Chef Patrick tries to tailor some dishes even more personally once he knows your taste. Michelin take off those blinders.

I expected a stilted, stiff place based on the website. How wrong I was. My experience is totally the opposite! Very friendly waiters, lot of laughing, no formal attire, excellent food.

Wir hatten vor kurzem das Vergnügen, dieses exzellente Restaurant zu besuchen, und ich muss sagen, es war ein kulinarischer Höhepunkt. Der Service war tadellos, persönlich und äußerst aufmerksam. Die Mitarbeiter hier verstanden es, den Abend zu einem ganz besonderen Erlebnis zu machen. Sie nahmen sich Zeit, um das vorgegebene Menü in all seiner Kreativität zu erklären und standen bereit, um eventuelle Fragen zu beantworten. Die Empfehlungen der Kellner waren hervorragend und trugen maßgeblich zu unserem kulinarischen Abenteuer bei. Das vorgegebene Menü war nicht nur kreativ (die Geschichte der Stadt Leiden findet sich in den Gerichten wieder), sondern auch ein Fest für die Sinne. Die Aromen und die Präsentation der Gerichte waren wirklich beeindruckend. Besonders lobenswert ist die Möglichkeit, ein vegetarisches Menü zu wählen, das in puncto Geschmack und Abwechslung in keiner Weise zurücksteht. Die Auswahl an Weinen war ebenfalls erstklassig und passte perfekt zu den verschiedenen Gängen. Es war offensichtlich, dass hier viel Sorgfalt auf die Weinpaarung gelegt wurde. Die warme Atmosphäre und die geschmackvolle Einrichtung schufen eine entspannte und einladende Umgebung. Es war der ideale Ort für ein romantisches Abendessen oder einen besonderen Anlass. Insgesamt war der Besuch in diesem Restaurant ein unvergessliches kulinarisches Erlebnis. Ich kann es wärmstens empfehlen, wenn Sie auf der Suche nach perfektem Service, kreativer Küche, exzellenten Weinen und einer herzlichen Atmosphäre sind. Dieses Restaurant ist wahrhaftig ein großartiger Ort für ein unvergleichliches kulinarisches Erlebnis.

Fantastisch gegeten, vriendelijk en kundige bediening!

In één woord: WAUW! We waren voor een lunch op de zaterdag. Betere prijs-kwaliteit krijg je niet. Ik ken nog geen betere plek dan In den Doofpot qua service, creativiteit en een geweldige culinaire ervaring! Er werd rekening gehouden met de gerechten vanwege mijn zwangere vriendin. En we hadden zelfs nog een extra taartje gekregen voor haar verjaardag.

IDD is in 1 woord geweldig. Ondanks de zeer formele sfeer die een etablissement als deze hoort te hebben, werken er leuke gasten die met humor het eten aankondigen. De chef kok is een ware kunstenaar. Van Leidse klassiekers als haring en wittebrood, tot abstracte ingrediënten als gefrituurd hooi, geen gang viel ons tegen. Alles was perfect. Leuk detail is het bestek dat in een lade onder de tafel zit, welke je zelf moet pakken voor de gang

What a beautiful atmosphere, with kind staff members and great service. I sat at their newly built bar (on my own) and it felt very comfortable, beautifully decorated as well! The waiter was very attentive, suggested a delicious white wine that went beautifully with my mackerel, jalapeño and ponzu dish. It’s really nice that a high-end restaurant can also tailor to those who just want a drink(s) and a small bite(s) to eat/taste if you don’t have time for the whole menu/wine arrangement.

A funny story....after a stroll in Leiden we were actually limited in time and just wanted a quick bite to eat. The son wanted pizza, the wife wanted pasta. I didn't care. Unfortunately, instead of going through the left door (pizza/pasta), we went through the right door and found ourselves in the IDD. I was immediately impressed by the ambiance and the great service, not realizing that I'm in the wrong restaurant. Packed with plastic bags, a dog and casual shopping clothes, we were friendly led to the table. after two amusemts i asked for the menu, still very impressed and thinking i could order a pizza right away. An irritated look from the super smart waiter then brought clarity......we were in the wrong restaurant.....in fact in the most likely best restaurant in Leiden. Unfortunately, unfortunately we didn't have the time to enjoy the 6-course menu that was offered, but the kitchen reacted spontaneously and conjured up a very fine main course for us. Thanks a lot for this. Both the amusement and the main course are at the upper end of the upper class in terms of taste and craftsmanship. just perfect. The service took our "misunderstanding" with humor. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back, then with more time to be able to enjoy the IDD.

Waanzinnig restaurant in Leiden centrum! Heerlijke, unieke gerechten en super vriendelijk personeel. Een zeer ruime keuze uit bijpassende wijnen. Een absolute must voor iedereen die van heerlijk eten houdt! Nogmaals, complimenten aan de chef!

Went here for a birthday dinner. We had champagne, all (7) courses and an after-dinner drink. The chef is passionate about great food and it shows in delightful dishes with bold flavours and colourful presentation. The wine pairings were varied, original and in a few cases an absolutely spot-on accompaniment to the dish. What bothered me looking back on the night, though, was the service. Whenever the chef himself or the sommelier served us something, we'd get a small story and a sign of true passion. Interaction with the other staff felt a bit rushed and impersonal. In one case, our wine was served right when we'd almost finished our course without any explanation. A more relaxed pace of service would do the restaurant well. Still, this place is well worth the visit for great food, great wine and great ambiance.

Veg selections on my dinner was too good

Een hele mooie en bijzondere ervaring. Heerlijk eten met verrassende smaakcombinaties. Passende wijnen die zeer goed combineerden met de gerechten. Een aanrader voor diegene die eens iets anders wil.

Hele mooie zaak in centrum Leiden, met een weekarrangement voor € 80.00 all incl. Laat je eerst verrassen de de amuses, dan volgt een voor- hoofd en nagerecht en zelfs nog koffie of thee achterna. Wel jammer dat je de wijn, die net als het aperitief en tafelwater ook inbegrepen is, niet kan kiezen ook niet mits bijbetaling. Over de verlichting moet ook nog eens worden nagedacht, paars en roze vindt ik niet bepaald appetijtelijk. Je kan het probleem herkennen met de foto's. Wel maakt een vlotte bediening heel veel goed. De moeite om eens uit te proberen.

Plezierig concept met een flink aantal vaste kleine gangen van hoge kwaliteit, waardoor je je zorgeloos kunt toevertrouwen aan de geweldige keuken. Zeker een wijnarrangement toevoegen om een culinaire ontdekkingstocht van hoog niveau te ervaren.

Update 26/8/22.. I ate here again yesterday with friends and I'm happy to say it lived up to the hype i'd given it. Literally mindblowing food, backed up by friendly (and funny) passionate professionals. Up there with the very best 👌🏽

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. The service was great ( our server explained all dishes in detail and was very attentive). I also loved the presentation - it was immaculate. Though, the flavors in some dishes were not there. The main disappointment was that there was a repetition of ingredients/flavors/sauces (same potato chips in a couple of dishes, same sauces in a couple of dishes as well) from one dish to another. In a restaurant of this caliber, I'd like to be surprised and I'd like to have a culinary experience with every dish.

Mixed feelings really. Service was great. Food was pretty good as well, but based on rather basic ingredients. It is being sold as "local", which I usually translate into "whatever we can get on the cheap". Have seen a couple of these restaurants in NL (De Haan in Groningen is another prime example). Wine pairing was decent, but you kinda feel ripped off when you are being charged 8.50 for a glass of an Austrian wine you can buy for 3-5 Euros a bottle in a supermarket in Vienna. So overall I cannot really complain, other than I would have expected more premium products and wine pairing wines for the kind of money you are being charged (340 EUR for 2 people).

Lunch met bijpassend wijnarrangement gedaan. Viel niet tegen maar ben ook niet laaiend enthousiast. Had denk ik wat meer verwacht van zowel de wijn als het luncharrangement. Je bent toch 300 euro kwijt voor 4 gangen met wijn..

Super lekker, mooi restaurant en hele vriendelijke bediening! Wij komen graag nog eens terug..
