There are Michelin-starred restaurants, and then there are Michelin-starred restaurants 🤩 We had truly excellent food, full of flavor and everything complemented each other perfectly. The wines were beautiful and perfectly complemented the dishes, and the hostess was fantastic! Highly recommended!

Our family had the pleasure of dining here to celebrate my mother's 62nd birthday. From start to finish, we were pampered with excellent service and delicious food. We all opted for the 6-course menu, and my father had the 7-course option, with the cheese trolley as an extra (which was definitely a smart choice)! Thank you for the wonderful care and the lovely gift for my mother: a beautiful, personally signed book.

Great food, how do they manage to combine so many flavors into something so great. Staff very friendly, without you feeling distant. Really recommend this restaurant, also very acceptable in terms of price.

What a fantastic experience! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. The atmosphere is stylish and warm, perfect for a night out. The food was truly sublime – refined flavours, beautifully presented and prepared with attention to detail. Each dish was a treat in itself, and you can really taste the passion of the chef in every element of the menu. A special mention goes to hostess Patricia. What a warm, friendly and professional hostess! She made us feel completely at ease. Her hospitality made our evening complete.

We have come here many times over the years (also while it was Bretelli) and have always been so impressed. The food, the atmosphere, the service, all perfect. Jan Marees is nothing short of a genius and artist. We travel to Weert (over 3 hours one way) just to eat here and are thrilled with it every time.

We had a very tasty meal here in a cozy atmosphere. It started fantastic with delicious appetizers and bread. Then a few dishes with too many flavors mixed together. Finished with a top main course and delicious dessert. Compared to other star restaurants, we found the service somewhat impersonal, and only at the end of the evening did people loosen up. Had a nice evening.

Wat een fantastische ervaring bij Restaurant Marrees! Vanaf het moment dat we binnenkwamen, voelden we ons welkom door de warme en gastvrije bediening. De sfeer is gezellig en stijlvol, precies de juiste setting voor deze culinaire verwennerij. En verwennerij was het zeker! Elk gerecht was een feestje op zich! ver, De pure ingrediënten en prachtig gepresenteerd. Je proeft de passie en vakmanschap in elke hap. De bijpassende wijnen maakten het helemaal af. Kortom, een waar cadeautje voor onszelf. Heerlijk gegeten, genoten van deze ontspannen ambiance. Dit is een dikke vette aanrader voor iedereen die zichzelf culinair wil laten verwennen.

Een tijdje terug was het idee ontstaan om eens te gaan uit eten bij Marrees in Weert. In mijn jonge jaren kwam ik met mijn ouders regelmatig in Weert en, toen ik wat ouder werd, hoorde daar steevast een etentje bij Bretelli bij. Daar waar Jan destijds in de keuken stond… Afgelopen vrijdag dus naar Marrees en dat is ons prima bevallen. Hartelijke ontvangst, prima bediening met ruimte om een klein gesprek te voeren en heerlijke gerechten. We kozen voor het 7 gangen menu, voor mij lactosevrij en met begeleidend alcoholvrij arrangement. De tafelgenoten namen genoegen met het bob-arrangement. De gerechten waren plaatjes zoals ze geserveerd werden. Mijn verzoek voor liever géén langoustine werd zonder problemen uitgevoerd. Wat vond ik het lekkerste? De wagyu en ganzenlever! Heerlijk! Maar ook de overige gerechten mochten er zijn, perfect gecombineerd met wijnen en alcoholvrije dranken. We gaan zeker terug komen.

Vanmiddag voor het eerst in lange tijd nog eens naar Marrees geweest voor de Kerst lunch. Daar heb ik bepaald geen spijt van! Jan liet weer eens zien dat hij nog steeds in topvorm is. Mooie gerechten, alles goed op smaak, en passend bij de gelegenheid en het seizoen. Dat Jan bekend staat als meester van de heerlijke sausen kwam ook in elk gerecht terug. De bediening, inclusief gastvrouw Patricia was hartelijk, informeel vriendelijk en goed op de hoogte van hetgeen er op het bord lag en wat er in het glas geschonken werd. Kortom, als je eens lekker verwend wilt worden dan is en blijft Marrees nog steeds een dikke aanrader! Remy Christiaens

1x hier gaan dineren met mijn partner, mede omdat ik een restaurant waardebon had. Normaliter zou ik zoveel geld niet uitgeven aan een restaurant. Zelf heb ik (h)eerlijk gegeten hier met wijnarrangement en al, alleen kon mijn partner niet zoveel met al dat eten dat niet meer herkenbaar is. Zeker Michelin waardig.

Went out for lunch with the family before our wedding anniversary. Very friendly and warm welcome. Opted for the three course lunch menu. It was delicious and very beautifully presented. It was also thoughtful that the dessert paid attention to our 20th anniversary! Highly recommended for special occasions.

What a beautiful evening again at Marrees. Everything was delicious, my personal favorite was the tasty turbot dish. Thank you for the very personal attention to our special occasion. That impressed all of us. And of course the spontaneous atmosphere that characterizes the Marrees. An evening performance for the books and we look forward to the next time.

Na een week heel hard te hebben nagedacht en de verbazing langzaam plaats heeft gemaakt voor teleurstelling toch deze review. We zijn zaterdagavond met vier (semi)dertigers bij Marrees gaan eten. Onze leeftijd benoem ik omdat deze nogal opviel in het restaurant en ik het idee heb dat we daarom niet helemaal voor vol werden aangezien. Marrees heeft één Michelin ster en daarbij hebben we onze verwachtingen. Deze zijn bij lange na niet waargemaakt. Het begon bij het aperitief, we kregen een kaart om zelf maar een aperitief uit te zoeken. Dit heb ik nog nooit meegemaakt. De amuses kwamen aan tafel en op volledig onverstaanbare toon werd gemompeld wat we voorgeschoteld kregen. Daarentegen waren de amuses zeer smaakvol waardoor onze verwachtingen voor de rest van het menu natuurlijk hoog waren. We hebben gekozen voor het zes gangen diner met begeleidende wijnen. We kregen van één mevrouw in de bediening nog een redelijk nette uitleg over de gekozen wijn maar de rest was vrij droevig. We gaan regelmatig op enig niveau dineren en zijn gewend dat door de sommelier aan tafel en met beleving wordt uitgelegd waar de wijnspijs combinatie op gebaseerd is. Dit werd steeds door verschillende medewerkers, volledig uit het hoofd geleerd, afgeraffeld. Daarnaast werd de wijn al dusdanig vroeg ingeschonken dat wanneer het gerecht kwam, deze al lauwwarm was. Van de zes gerechten waren bij drie de cuisson van de proteïne zwaar over het gewenste punt. Toen ik een vraag stelde over het gerecht met paling werd me toegesneerd dat het een bepaalde soort bereiding was. Achteraf bleek mijn vraag terecht en gaat het om een specifieke Japanse paling soort. Het kwam echt op ons over alsof wij als (niet meer zo) jongeren niet tot hun publiek paste en we er totaal geen verstand van hadden. Natuurlijk is ons na elk gerecht gevraagd of het gesmaakt had maar dit gebeurde op zo’n ongeïnteresseerde toon dat er totaal geen ruimte werd gelaten om een reactie te geven. De uitleg van de gerechten werden allemaal echt onverstaanbaar gemompeld, leunend op tafel, of, nog veel erger, met de handen in de broekzakken. Het was echt ongemakkelijk slecht. Tot slot kwam de chef zelf aan tafel om te vragen of het was bevallen. Meneer had overduidelijk net buiten staan roken en al gedronken. De toon en houding waarop ons deze vraag werd toegesneerd liet absoluut niet toe dat we ons ongenoegen konden uiten. Al met al hebben we bijna €800,- achtergelaten in Weert, dit gaan we nóóit meer doen.

Wat een feestje. Ter gelegenheid van een verjaardag hier gelucht. Van seconde één tot ons vertrek ruim 3 uur later, genoten van vier gangen, mooie champagne en amuses vooraf en koffie na. Midden in het centrum, parkeren ernaast in de garage, 15 meter lopen. Typisch Limburgse gastvrijheid van de eigenaren het personeel. 3-7 gangen menu en uitgebreide a la carte mogelijkheden. Goede wijnkaart ook. Alles prachtig opgemaakt, precies goed, mooi in balans en niet over the top qua smaken. Echt niks op aan te merken, dit was een goede keuze. Heb ik dan niks te klagen, nou, de lokatie is niet geweldig, naar buiten kijken is geen feestje, maar misschien moet je dat dan ook helemaal niet doen. Lekker op je gezelschap en het eten concentreren. Aanrader!

Restaurant Marrees is sinds enige jaren gelegen op een iets verscholen plek achter het gemeentehuis in Weert. De familie Marrees is al jaren een begrip in culinair Weert en net als op hun vorige locatie is hun restaurant onderscheiden met een Michelinster. Op deze warme zomerse avond nemen wij plaats in het sfeervol, modern ingerichte restaurant. De temperatuur is heel aangenaam! De vriendelijke bediening presenteert de aperitief en bar bites kaart! De ruime keuze aan bar bites doet je watertanden. Wij kiezen voor de pata negra ham, toast paling en gamba’s! Alle 3 de bites zijn verrukkelijk! De gamba’s verdienen een bijzondere vermelding en zijn terecht een echte klassieker van Marrees! Ook worden er nog enkele heerlijke amuses van het huis geserveerd! Dat deze chef ook het vegetarisch koken beheerst blijkt bij het proeven van deze hapjes. Stuk voor stuk origineel, smaakrijk en mooi hartig van smaak en dat allemaal zonder dat er vlees of vis aan te pas komt. De Tom kha kai soep met een schuin van kokos is zalig! Een mooie diepe en rijke smaak met behoorlijk veel pit! Bij dit restaurant heeft de gast nog de luxe om iets te kiezen. Waar steeds meer enkel een meergangenmenu wordt geserveerd bij dergelijke (Michelin) restaurants, worden hier 2 menu’s aangeboden (“standaard” en “groenten”), maar kan er ook gekozen worden voor a la carte gerechten. De a la carte gerechten zijn middelgrote gerechten en het is perfect om hier 2/3/4 van uit te zoeken voor een mooi zelf samengesteld menu. Daarnaast nog enkele “specialiteiten”, dit zijn gerechten in iets groter formaat. Wij kiezen vandaag voor 2 kleine gerechten en 1 specialiteit gerecht. Dit blijkt een perfecte keuze. De eerste gerechten bevallen uitstekend! De kreeft is perfect gekookt en dus heerlijk mals. De halve staart wordt begeleidt door een beurre blanc saus waar een heerlijke kruidigheid in is te herkennen (wellicht van ras el hanout) aan de andere zijde van het bord een frisse salade van kreeft met mooie groente garnituren. De zalm verschijnt als tartaar en sashimi op het bord en is mooi van kwaliteit en samen met de garnituren een mooi zomers gerecht. Ook de ganzenlever krijgt 2 bereidingen, gebakken en in de vorm van ijs. Klassiek en modern samen gebracht in één gerecht! Top! Als 2e gang de kwartelboutjes die gekonfijt zijn en dus heerlijk mals zijn. Erbij lekker garnituur met meloes ui, snijbonen en een heerlijke krachtige jus. De andere keuze is gevallen op de langoustines die uitstekend van kwaliteit zijn en worden begeleidt door een mooie bisque saus en garnituren van wortel en paksoi! Wederom een voltreffer dit gerecht. Al het lekkers houdt maar niet op deze avond, want ook de zwezerik is weer smullen! Klassiek bereid, mooi krokant gebakken dus en voorzien van een goede jus en lekker groenten garnituur! Aan de andere kant van de tafel een royale moot tarbotfilet die mooi is gegrild. De lobbige kreeften bearnaise hierbij is goddelijk lekker. Om het geheel nog luxer te maken op top van dit gerecht wat cantharellen en een kreeftenschaar! Genieten! Wij zijn geen grote liefhebbers van desserts, dus slaan wij dit over vandaag. We hebben wederom genoten bij Marrees waar de kwaliteit uit de keuken als ook de service op constant hoog niveau is. De keuken heeft alles onder controle en zelfs bij een volle bezetting is het tempo van de service perfect. Kortom Marrees blijft een favoriet voor ons. De luxe om op dit niveau a la carte te kunnen eten gecombineerd met een mooie setting, goede spontane en oprecht hartelijke service, een mooie wijnkaart (met stevige prijzen), een prima prijs-kwaliteit verhouding en fantastisch eten zorgt ervoor dat wij snel weer terugkomen.

The food was very good, as you would expect in a star restaurant. However, the location of the restaurant is in an unexpected place, quite without atmosphere. Everything inside is super sleek and beautifully designed! All in all a successful evening at Marrees!

Had a delicious meal at MARREES. Cozy atmosphere and good dishes, especially the salmon and monkfish were very tasty! Service very friendly. Delicious wines with the dishes. We had a 4-course menu but did not feel satisfied. A portion of fries or potatoes would have been a nice addition to the dishes. Nevertheless, a delicious meal, definitely recommended. We would like to come back for a 6 or 7 course menu.

Die Einrichtung ist modern, aber gemütlich. Der Service aufmerksam, zuvorkommend und freundlich. Das Menü war klasse. Die Zusammenstellung der Gerichte bot immer wieder spannende, geschmackvolle Kombinationen. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen gerne wieder.

Very chic star restaurant near Weert station. The staff is nice and explains at the table what you are being served. Have eaten at Marrees several times. Every time we were there, each person in my party received an appetizer (we were served a different appetizer every visit) and we received olives and a warm ball of bread with butter, sea salt and olive oil (free of charge). They also explain what we could expect with the appetizers. In addition, the dishes were fantastic every time! Not only is the presentation of the food/plate beautiful, all dishes were delicious! The only downside were the French fries (both the 'normal' ones and those with truffle (see photos for both variants of the French fries)), which unfortunately I didn't like very much... Since the menu partly changes with the seasons, some dishes of which I took photos no longer appear in the menu that is now online. This does not apply to the aperitif bites by the way. These remain partly unchanged. The first two photos show the 'smoked eel' and the 'vegetable croquettes'. What I also found particularly hospitable is that I received two souffles with my dessert (see photos) instead of one. Due to the collapse/failure of the souffles, they made two just to be sure, and since they both turned out well, I was served both! Really sweet! In short, a beautiful and hospitable star restaurant with friendly staff serving delicious food!

We had a delicious meal and a nice evening, but it was not quite what we expected from a star restaurant. This was due, among other things, to the following: - We were a little early and were then sent back outside into the cold. It would have been nicer if we had been offered a place at the bar. - The dishes sometimes took quite a long time to arrive. As a result, the matching wine was finished before the dish arrived. - My boyfriend and I got a bad stomach flu 1.5 days after dinner. The most likely reason for this is the norovirus, which is common in raw oysters (which we ate in this restaurant). We could not imagine another reason for this stomach flu, but the restaurant's response showed that they take no responsibility for this. Shame. You simply expect something different from a star restaurant. At the very least, the supplier should be contacted about this to confirm or refute this. And of course to prevent more people from becoming infected. We probably just had bad luck with the above. Once again, we had a really good meal and a very nice evening. But you expect that little bit extra from a star restaurant. And unfortunately we missed that.

We had a delicious and enjoyable meal with the four of us in a very relaxed atmosphere. All dishes had a sublime taste. The service was also very attentive and friendly. We would like to recommend Restaurant Marrees in Weert to everyone.

Nice restaurant in the center of Weert. The decor is sleek and tasteful. The welcome is friendly. To start with, a wide choice from the cocktail menu. You can eat here a la cart, or choose from various menus. Naturally, there is a wine list or you can take the accompanying wines. The plates are beautifully laid out, the flavors are pure and the matching wines perfect. It was a perfect and tasteful experience.

Just act normal, you're acting crazy enough. Marrees signs that. The chef uses honest products to create honest flavors and dishes. The plates look well cared for. The wines have been carefully selected and without exception go well with the dishes. As far as I understand, it is more than justified that a Michelin star shines here.

Delicious food. Beautiful setting, but even more beautiful is the presentation of the food. However, highly recommended.

Not what I expected. The dishes were tasty, but not as refined as you would expect from a star restaurant. There was a lot of time between the dishes (after timing them a few times, often 50 minutes - 1 hour). I don't know if they were just too busy or something else went wrong, but the accompanying wine was often finished before the accompanying dish was served. The wine pairing could also be better in terms of coordination with the dishes. There seemed to be little coordination between the kitchen and the floor. They also regularly forgot about us, so we were without water several times. Normally they just have to see it and add more before the glass is empty. All in all, service and food were just less good than you might expect. Fortunately the company was good.

Excellent price/quality ratio for a star restaurant. Very attractively decorated. Location is a bit strange, but there is a parking space next door.

Had dinner at Marrees last Sunday evening. Very pleased with the 5-course surprise menu. I'm not going to reveal it, but it's definitely worth it! The chef knows what the guests like and the hostess will give you a very friendly welcome. The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere. All in all, we left for Roermond with a satisfied feeling. Star worthy! The dishes that come from the kitchen are really top class, and if you also opt for the wine arrangement, the evening is complete. Every course was pure indulgence. The service is very friendly, much looser and more accessible than in other star restaurants, which makes the atmosphere pleasant. The round shape of the restaurant further enhances this effect.

Great, refined food, correct service, and certainly worthy of a Michelin star. Only the entourage of the restaurant could, in my opinion, be a bit more challenging in terms of colors and materials.

Excellent restaurant, good hosting

At times surprisingly eaten. Too bad that, after we had indicated that we did not want meat as/with the main course, they simply left out the meat. The main course was therefore very poor. The price/quality ratio is not good; Previously they had a restaurant with a Michelin star, but they probably forgot to adjust the prices. It's also a pity that no one looked after us after paying; no goodbyes and grab the coats yourself.

Yesterday we had a wonderful afternoon and evening here with 4 people. Very beautiful restaurant. Recently opened and nice varied menu. We opted for a 6-course chef's menu. It was really delicious. Delicious food, as we are used to from the Marrees kitchen. Attractive and warm interior. Friendly and attentive service.

The new business of the Marrees family opened last week, we had to try that. Parking is free behind the business on Sundays. From the outside you can't immediately see where you need to be, but we recognized the people inside. The store is modernly decorated with natural tones. To the left of the entrance a large bar with chairs, along the wall a blue chesterfield sofa with tables, and a little further the large kitchen. To the right of the entrance is the restaurant area with a semi-circular glass facade, wooden tables, round in the middle and squares along the windows, with leather armchairs with a good fit. The menu is accessible with bites and relatively affordable à la carte dishes. For lovers of the Bretelli experience, there is the five-course menu with wine arrangement, which we opted for. The chef himself came to take our wishes, which was nice. As an aperitif a Spanish white from Ramon Roqueta that was well received. Next to it freshly marinated black olives with pieces of onion, delicious. The amuse came in a cup, with marinated tomatoes at the bottom, a piece of little gem and lukewarm poached quail egg in a basil-based vinaigrette covered with a parmesan foam, finished with a sourdough crisp and finely chopped chives. Wow, what a taste experience, great! The first supervisor was briefly presented. A German “dry” Riesling 2017 from Villa Wolff, beautiful aroma, slightly less dry in the mouth than expected with a prick on the tongue, notes of green apple and peach. From the kitchen two preparations of yellowfin mackerel, a tartare and a roll filled with poles of raw vegetables, further structures of cucumber, cube of seared avocado, dollop of yuzu gel, crunch of wasabi and a jus of celery and apple.
