Ristorante Fratelli in Giethoorn

The chicken was an insult to the culinary world, the watermelon beside chicken tomato sauce was an embarrassment. I am so sorry for the waiters working there, it is not their fault having serving such a bad food. It’s a pity cause the location is amazing and the overall experience could have being pleasant just taking more seriously what own a restaurant a serve food means. To the owner, I say: You should be ashamed. Serving food like this to paying customers is unacceptable. It's clear that you're not taking pride in what you're serving, and it's reflecting in the quality. If you want to stay in business, you need to seriously revamp your menu and service. Until then, I'll be taking my business (and my appetite) elsewhere.

Picked up 4 pizzas. It was just awful. Bad crust Not hot and not crispy. Bland taste, as if all the cheeses were smeared on top. And way too expensive for these pizzas.

It's not a place I'd choose if it weren't for Giethoorn. The pizza has nothing to do with Italian pizza.

We were very disappointed! Slow service, no cutlery, and it took ages to get our food. The pizzas were extremely greasy and soggy, and the pasta was tasteless. Absolutely not recommended and far too expensive. Our complaint was ignored. We received no compensation.

I ate here yesterday with a friend. The service was poor and unfriendly. The pasta was overcooked, almost reheated. My piece of meat was tiny, and the portion of fries was maybe 10 at most. But it was 28 euros per dish. The price-quality ratio is gone.

I've never experienced anything like this before. We were enjoying a meal out with my girlfriend. We saw a lovely fish dish on the menu; for over 30 euros, we were supposed to get a plate of tiger prawns, salmon, and swordfish. But first, the starter. We both had a cup of soup: rather bland tomato soup in a much-too-large bowl (it was barely half full), and minestrone soup that looked more like broth. Two mini rolls were included. Fine... Were our expectations high? Yes, for such a price at a place where pizzas are priced normally. But nothing could be further from the truth. We got the main course, which was truly minimal. A thin slice of swordfish, a dry-fried salmon steak, and two shrimp. And a side of fries. I've never had such a meager portion in my life. The service was lovely, though. We skipped dessert and had a proper main course at another restaurant. Fratelli, I'd be ashamed...

The salmon was unfortunately very dry, and the fries weren't cooked through at all. The mozzarella sticks were tasty, and the location is nice. But €35.00 for a dish that's far too dry is a real shame. Also, the dishes are small. A shame, because the location is very nice!

The restaurant is beautiful and the service is good. Our orders: Margherita Pizza Seafood Spaghetti Rosetto The order totaled around 70 euros. For your information, we only accept cash, and that's the only problem.

As of 2025.07.23. They don't accept credit cards. They don't accept travel blogs or travel wallets. They only accept debit cards issued in Europe and cash. I was so hungry, I had to leave. I guess they don't treat people differently based on race, right? I was suspicious. It's a funny restaurant these days.

A beautiful place with a pleasant atmosphere, the pizza we ate and the pasta were barely average and the price is completely overpriced. 2 medium pizzas and a pasta plate with 3 soft drinks and 2 beers to pay 100 euros is a steal

Nice place food was average my steak was a bit underkooked at 1 side. Desserts where also good only weird thing they only accept local bank cards of cash but no credit card, seems weird to me as it's a tourist place but they don't accept credit cards

Teleurstellende ervaring na hier vele jaren met veel plezier gegeten te hebben. Wilden hier ons 40 jarig huwelijksjubileum vieren met familie. Dat viel tegen. Prijzen (voorheen prima) stonden absoluut niet in verhouding tot de kwaliteit van het eten; we moesten ben bovendien heel lang op ons eten wachten en toen kwam er voor 10 personen en moest de elfde persoon nog een hele tijd wachten op haar eten; 1 pizza heel erg zout; de rekening niet conform wat ons toegezegd was na een fout. Enige positieve was het meisje van de bediening, zij was erg vriendelijk. Voelden ons bekocht: het is echt een toeristenfuik geworden. Komen helaas niet meer terug.

Great location with views by the Giothern canals! However it's kind of busy with customers which was weird to know that they don't make reservations. The food was good, but the service was below average as they don't accept cards and they're not very knowledgeable when it comes to special order requests.

We shared pizza and pasta. They are both nice and delicious. Atmosphere is really nice. It is worth to come here and have dinner.

I ordered €28 worth of chicken and fries and got three pieces of chicken with some tomato sauce and a piece of cheese on top. It was absolutely terrible! The fries were also incredibly small. I wouldn't recommend this place. My family doesn't come here either, but the staff is friendly.

Oei, dit viel helaas toch flink tegen. Ik had Fratelli hoog zitten, mooie locatie en toch een van de bekendste restaurants van Giethoorn. Dus ging er vanuit dat het eten wel goed zou zijn. We hadden allebei wel zin in een uitgebreid bord, dus gekozen voor de PESCE ALLA GRIGLIA, ‘Verschillende gegrilde vissoorten’. Ook best prijzig, €34,-, dus we hadden wel een beetje verwachtingen. We kregen letterlijk 3 dunne lapjes vis, alsof je met je bordje langs een barbecue liep en iemand dat er zo op gegooid had. Een beetje saus in een goedkoop plastic bakje, en een random stuk watermeloen??? Het zag er niet alleen heel lelijk uit, het smaakte ook niet goed en het was heel weinig. Met z’n tweeën kregen we 1 bakje friet erbij om te delen. Verder niets van groenten of andere bijgerechten. Wij vonden allebei direct dat dit wel heel erg karig was voor die prijs. Bediening was wel erg vriendelijk! En ze waren ook snel. Al met al toch een teleurstellende ervaring, helaas. Het lijkt erop alsof het commercieel toeristenrestaurant is geworden waarbij de authenticiteit en kwaliteit niet meer zo belangrijk zijn.

First, the positive: the location is stunningly beautiful, and the staff were mostly friendly and accommodating. The negative: the restaurant is far too overpriced for what they offer. My husband got his food first, and a few minutes later, after asking, the second pizza arrived. The small glass of Coke wasn't filled properly, and both pizzas were more or less missing their toppings. They were far too thin and hard, more like crispbread. Additionally, one of the pizzas was very burnt. It wasn't full, so it probably wasn't due to overcrowding. Next time, we'll try a different restaurant.

It is a nice Italian restaurant, conveniently situated in the heart of Giethoorn. We were lucky to secure a table for lunch without a reservation, even though it was a busy Sunday afternoon. The outdoor terrace offers a great view of the canal and the passing boats. It started raining initially, but the restaurant has shades to cover you. The waitstaff is attentive and provides good recommendations. The food was great, and my wife and I were thoroughly pleased with our selections. The interior is also very nice and well decorated.

Top-notch service 🤩 Top-notch food (we had pasta and pizza) and if you get a seat on the terrace by the water, you'll also enjoy top-notch entertainment from the passing boats and their sometimes amateurish driving skills 🙃. A very good Italian restaurant in the middle of Giethoorn's canals. You have to be a little lucky to get a nice table by the water, but it's worth it! Especially for the sunset ☀️ I recommend the "Bella Italia" pizza 😋

When we were going around by boat, I noticed that restaurant. It has the absolute best location in the whole area – right by the water, with a beautiful view. After the tour, we went back there, and I told my family: “I want to sit right here, in the best spot with the nicest view no matter if the food is good or not.” But I was truly surprised. They serve Italian pizzas that are just as good as the ones in Naples! I even asked if they really have a stone oven – and yes, they do. I highly recommend this restaurant both for, the view, and the food. Just a heads-up: they do not accept credit cards, and no debit cards from outside the EU – so bring cash just in case.

One of the best restaurants in the north of the Netherlands! Very friendly staff and fast service! Beautiful surroundings and unique location! Special Italian dishes prepared with attention to craftsmanship, and with clearly tasteable pure ingredients. The delicious Italian wine selection is also not to be missed! Although the staff is quite friendly and the atmosphere is nice, I can't say any positive things about the food. The pizza we ate here was unfortunately not even mediocre.

The place is beautiful, right by the canal. The menu is good. But the most striking thing is that they don't accept credit cards, and we didn't know that. A huge problem because we didn't have cash. We had to use a PayPal account. The payment process was slow... I ordered swordfish, and it was overcooked, like cardboard. We also ordered noodles, and the dish was good and very filling. It wouldn't be a place I'd recommend.

After our not so great tour of Giethoorn we were happy to find this place for lunch. We sat outside on a nice patio. That was until there was a lawnmover next door spewing flumes and noise. We were almost done with our pizza which was good, so we weren't too affected. Our pizza was not badly priced at 12,50 euros. Served hot by a nice waitress. We did not see too many places on to eat on the scenic walkway, so we were glad to find this place.

A wonderful restaurant with famous Italian food, an excellent location, and reasonable prices. I recommend going there. The food is excellent, especially the beef burger, which is very excellent.

The place is amazing. We ordered a burrata salad, it was delicious and the cheese was amazing. The mushroom risotto was delicious, but overcooked and had too much sauce. We ordered pasta with Alfredo sauce, but it was below average. You have to try the burrata and risotto 😋

Alright, after visiting Italy I have more knowledge to compare this restaurant with the genuine Italian restaurants in the Italy. This place is one of the greatest to get an “authentic pizza”. We ate margherita pizza and some starters in here and I highly recommend this place. It’s not a tourist trap and a great restaurant with perfect servers. Price is also very reasonable.

We really wanted to eat outside by the water, but someone in our group had to charge the battery of his oxygen machine and there was no power outlet outside. In no time an extension cord was arranged and a nice spot on the terrace by the water, so that we could enjoy the delicious food and each other's company outside. The good service and hospitality really contributed to this. Thank you very much for that!

Nice location with tasty starters, pizzas and a smooth service. The meat/fish dishes disappointed us. With prices between 28 and 37 euros you expect more than just a piece of meat/fish with (literally) a handful of 'Flemish fries' from Aviko (?). There was no form of vegetable and the sauces were served in bags. I can understand that at a snack bar, but not in a restaurant. For these prices I think you can expect a number of home-made side dishes with your main course and that this is served somewhat tastefully.

Delicious food in a real Italian atmosphere.

Very disappointing, little taste and the fries of the kids in both portions were still half raw. In addition, we wanted to order coffee at the end but we just left. Very poor quality with much too high prices.

Ate here with 9 people. The choice is generous, so something for everyone. Pastas are generous, pizzas tasty and well filled and the ladies of the service are super friendly. All in all a real recommendation to end a nice day in Giethoorn!

Excellent service and food in the area.

The good was great, the dessert was okay, the services suck. We had to wait over 30 minutes for someone to come and take out order and when they did, the food took over 45 minutes to get to out table.

The best location you could imagine. It's right on the riverbank and has beautiful views. The food is delicious, and they serve a lot of it. A place with an unparalleled atmosphere. 100% recommended.

So from the ambience and everything, we can only recommend it. But what doesn't work at all is the food. We had a meat plate and most of the meat was so cold and raw that it was inedible. The fries were the best. Too bad.

The ambience right on the water is great, but the food is forgettable. We had the meat platter and 3 out of 4 pieces of meat were too raw. One of them was so raw that you could only eat the outer edge. There was a portion of fries for 2 people. The consistency of Gorgonzola sauce was more like quark than sauce. When we expressed our disappointment about the meat, the waitress just said "Oh".

Had a nice lunch in Giethoorn at Fratelli, beautiful place with a good view of the water, drank a nice Pinot Grigio and a tasty pizza, only Prosciuto was on the menu, but I couldn't discover it on the pizza.

Before the trip, while checking for the location of my boat rental company, I saw this restaurant on the map. In reality, this restaurant looks so much more beautiful! I must say, I was very very lucky to walk in and a table next to the river was available for me! I had an enjoyable meal there! 👍👍👍 [Spaghetti Bolognaise €18.50 and Lemon Tea €5.25]. The restaurant accepts only cash and cards from European banks.

A place that is lucky enough to be discreet but being Italian I agree with the Italian who lives in Holland you can't eat worse than this. 23 euros for a pizza and then we complain about Briatore... incredible.

The waiting period was so long, it felt like forever, and when the food came it wasn't worth the wait too unfortunately 😕 the lasagna was very mushy and the pizza was very dry .

The pizza is good, the risotto is delicious, and the burrata salad is also good. There is no Visa or Mastercard. Debit card or cash are available.

A very nice restaurant with a nice location. We tried lamp and beef steaks and were good. We also tried shrimp pasta and was great. I recommend the restaurant.

Giethoorn, special experience. Reserved a table for half past six tonight. What do we see: a lady who 'hangs' at the bar and keeps an average of 3 working ladies from their work. Assumption, this is a staff member whose shift has finished and is having a closing drink. A business that is preparing for an evening of hospitality and guests who are looking forward to it. My guest ordered the chicken, pollo and forno and I ordered the tagliatelle with tenderloin tips. A gias red house wine and a coke zero. We get our plates from the kitchen in a good time. Pollo good, tenderloin tips on my nose. It didn't look like tenderloin but like sirloin steak. Even against the grain it was not tender. I called a lady and asked if she wanted to take it back because this is not tenderloin. She comes back to the table with the sentence; I double checked with the chef and he says this is tenderloin. My reply; I am a butcher's daughter and this is not a tenderloin. Also don't want another dish but this dish. Then it took a while but my ordered dish arrived. Glad it was!! Delicious! Nothing extra, just what I ordered. Almost finished my plate. Later I thanked the kitchen staff. Chapeau, mistake corrected. Guest happy and gave a nice tip.

A hot spot on the canals for sure. Service was a bit sluggish as we waited for about 15 mins to be served. Food seems good and it's actually priced OK in regards to location. The waitress said they don't accept credit cards but when we went inside to pay they took the car no problem. So don't really know what that is all about.

Ordered pizza funghi with red onion and arugula. There was a thick layer of cheese on the pizza, a few pieces of mushroom and a few pieces of red onion and wilted arugula. I said something about this, but nothing was done about it, as if they thought they were just tourists, we didn't happen to be tourists... we won't eat here anymore.

The restaurant has really nice vibes and the menu has variety options it’s really huge menu. The waitresses are so friendly.

Fortunately, the temperature is still reasonable. outside on terrace; terrace full of many German tourists. Recommended for everyone.
