Based on the positive reviews. The restaurant doesn't look inviting from the outside—it's dark—but the burning 'open' sign gave us the courage to step inside anyway. Very friendly service and delicious food. We are happy to have found a good Chinese restaurant again after our move. So we will definitely be back!

Beef spring roll, swimming in sauce. The taste was good, but the soggy spring roll was inedible. Gadogado was watery and tasteless. Pork in curry sauce was tasty, but also very thin and watery. Not worth getting again.

Dogs aren't allowed there, and the restaurant was closed due to the heat. It didn't look very inviting anyway, and it smelled musty. The food was okay, but as described, a bit bland.

The service here is great, the staff are friendly, and the food is top-notch. We have eaten here and get takeout regularly.

The food is good, though very bland. Excellent service. Generous portions. The restaurant is on the other side of Deventer; you have to take the ferry across and it seems to be mainly used for takeaway. We enjoyed it.

Rarely have I eaten so well at a Chinese restaurant!! Ordered takeout: babi pangang and chicken tjaptjoi. With noodles. Both dishes were very flavorful. The accompanying sauces were delicious and not those glassy 'cornstarch' sauces. The service was also extremely friendly. Truly top-notch and highly recommended.

On this early Monday evening, the spacious restaurant is empty. It seems they're doing a lot of takeout. The service is impeccable and respectful. I opt for the "Gon Bao Ngau (Beef fillet in spicy sauce with cashew nuts)" from the specials menu. It's a generous portion, though the spiciness could be a bit more intense. An empty restaurant can mean two things: get lost, or you've found a hidden gem. Shang Hai falls into the latter category. Tucked away in a residential area, it's only accessible to those truly lost. Moreover, it stood mysteriously abandoned for years until the owners recently returned without explanation and reopened the place as if it had never been different. Those who want to eat there are also discouraged in various ways by warnings of long waits due to staff shortages and lights that only come on upon entering. But once you've overcome these hurdles, you're completely in the driver's seat. Chances are you'll have the restaurant all to yourself, with the sole—but very attentive—waiter devoting their full attention to your table. The food is delicious, the service impeccable, and the somewhat strange atmosphere upon arrival is more of a plus than a turn-off for the seasoned Chinese Indian restaurant enthusiast. The ideal spot for a discreet business dinner, a tense first date, or simply to relax with a plate of gado gado, staring into space and enjoying your own madness, whether or not you're intoxicated (Grolsch and Heineken are available in bottles).

I ordered takeout from this restaurant for the first time. This was due to the positive reviews and the fact that there aren't any good Chinese restaurants left in the Stedendriehoek area. I went to Deventer with high expectations, and they were largely met. The spring roll was excellent, the chicken fillet foo yong hai (with chicken breast) was very tasty, and the nasi was also excellent. The only downside was the ham in the nasi. I don't mean ham and a fried egg on top, but small pieces of ham mixed in. This detracts from the flavor of the nasi. It's unfortunately a trend at many Chinese restaurants in recent years, probably because ham is cheap. So, there's still room for improvement. But otherwise, it was delicious, and I'll definitely return to Shang Hai Deventer.

Delicious takeout. Unfortunately, I rarely see people inside, which makes it a bit sad. I'd recommend them to try a flyer in the neighborhood with a special offer, such as a discount on Christmas dinner or a presentation of the flyer.

The food was delicious. We had fou yong hai with tenderloin and vermicelli with tenderloin. Both were delicious. I've rarely had such a good meal at a Chinese restaurant. The service was also excellent. The atmosphere was less so. It looked neat. We were the only guests, so it was very quiet. Definitely recommended.

Large portions at a reasonable price. The restaurant looks neat and tidy with (as I think it should be) relaxing Chinese music playing in the background. Food is served on a warming plate. At the takeaway section, there was a constant stream of customers coming and going to pick up their orders. A good sign. I deducted one star for ambiance because we were the only guests. Highly recommended to try this place.

Nice traditional Chinese-Dutch restaurant. Good service, a very friendly family and delicious food. My girlfriend is vegan and it was possible to make a dish with tofu, nice :) Maybe it would be nice to one day have a small menu with traditional Chinese dishes, which Dutch tastes are less used to!

Aangenaam verrast! En dat bij ons om de hoek in de worp. De vegetarische wokgroenten waren heerlijk; lekker vers en net lang genoeg gebakken. En de bami pangang gewoon precies zoals je wilt dat ie smaakt. Gaan we vaker doen!

Ik was nieuwsgierig naar de kwaliteit van de afhaal, was hier voor het vijf jaar sluiten nog nooit geweest en we zochten naar een alternatief wegens de sluiting van de andere afhaal waar we heen gingen. Het eten is mij goed bevallen en het personeel was vriendelijk, het restaurant zelf zag er knus uit. Veel succes met de heropening!

Vandaag gebruik gemaakt van de €10 november aanbieding samen met een groep van 10 volwassenen. Wat een keus en eten voor zo'n prijs en dan niet alleen maar over Foe Yong Hai of babi Pangang. Laat voor mij de WOK dan maar gewoon want dit is gewoon lekker, smakelijk, warm, vers en telkens vers aangevuld. Vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel kortom een aanrader voor een ieder zeker ook als je met een groep wilt gaan. Helaas voor velen is door onduidelijke redenen dit restaurant alweer gesloten.

Goed eten, gezellige medewerkers. Ruime wachtruimte. Kom zeker weer een keer terug.
