Sushi is good (but not as good as what everyone says (caveat - I know my sushi and so am perhaps more critical than others)). Atmosphere ok. Manager not that helpful/friendly. Filtered water is charged. For the price, it’s medium value… but I had expected friendlier service and the very best quality.

Honestly probably the first good sushi I’ve found in Amsterdam after eight years, outside omakase The balanced blue fin was so good, also the gyoza!

As asked by your crew, I’m here to call your manager and complain about your attitude which is showing a very bad example of Japanese culture which has been famous for something on the total opposite side. We have the table until 8:30pm and we left before 8:26 after a million times of ‘asking us to leave’ with a ‘why the heck you’re still sitting here’ attitude. Very disappointing. Been here for five years and it’s the first time we’ve experienced this. Wish you all the worst until you improve your service again.

Been a regular here for both dine-in and takeout, so this isn’t a one-off first impression. The food has always been okay for us, but today the service was genuinely bad. We had a table from 6:30 to 8:30. While we were still finishing our drinks and chatting, three different employees came over to remind us we “needed to” leave — at 7:55, then again at 8:15, and once more at 8:20. Three separate interruptions in under half an hour, over a table we’d been at for a normal length of time. Is this necessary? When we brought this up at the counter, the response made it worse. One girl (employee) simply didn’t care. Her answer was”Do you want to talk to our manager? You can call the manager” no attempt to make it right, just brushing us off onto a phone call. Being rushed out once might be an honest mistake. Being reminded three times, then met with total indifference when you raise it, is a pattern. It tells you how much they value customers. If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a relaxed meal with a friend, this is not the place.

the presentation, the food quality, the casual atmosphere, and service were all on point. i would definitely recommend this as a stop for anyone coming to amsterdam thats craving some sushi. loved it!!

This was the best otoro sushi I’ve ever had in my life. I ordered it once, then ordered it again… and then again! The fish was incredibly sweet, buttery, and melted in my mouth. The rice was also perfectly seasoned and paired so well with the fish. I ended up eating more than 10 pieces because I just couldn’t stop. If you’re an otoro lover, you have to try it!

We chose the omakase experience, and it was so much more than just an incredible meal - it was a true culinary journey. Every dish was beautifully presented, and watching the chef prepare each course with such precision and attention to detail made the entire evening feel like a performance. The food was absolutely delicious, but what made it truly special was the experience as a whole, from the first course to the last - highly recommended!

Sushi Fanatics is my favorite Japanese spot in Amsterdam by far. The chef's sets are consistently amazing and super fresh. What really sets them apart is that you can order actual, freshly grated real wasabi-it makes a massive difference compared to the standard green horseradish paste. They also have a really good tea selection to pair with the meal, and you definitely shouldn't skip the matcha tart for dessert. Highly recommend!

Good sushi but tuna quality and the fact that shrimps are boiled are a let down. Ikura was very fresh though. A bit too much rice in nigiri for my taste too

What a fantastic experience at this place on Andreas Bonnstraat. The sushi was truly top-notch and the presentation was beautiful. The matcha with the dango on a stick was a particularly fun and unique surprise. Everything looked fresh and the atmosphere in the shop is wonderfully relaxed. I will definitely be back here soon for more.

Amazing sushi. Fresh, filling, and simple. Order less than you think you need. Small restaurant with limited seating so you may need a reservation or be ready to eat. We walked right in for lunch & enjoyed pretty quick service. We were recommended by a local and it did not disappoint

The best sushi I've had so far!

A wonderfully tucked away sushi restaurant. The sushi is fresh and excellent. We got a seared donburi rice bowl as takeaway along with some fried chicken karage. It was an excellent meal with the right amount of sear and very clean flavors. The sushi rice itself is also stand out, being the right flavors and great consistency in stickiness and chew.

Was hoping for something better! The folks working here were very nice but didn’t know the menu very well. The menu was confusing and we didn’t really get a good explanation. Sushi was overstuffed (could not get the roll in my mouth)and didn’t present well, and I have never seen wasabi watery and creamy. The sushi was not rolled well. Also- nothing special or creative about the sushi. The food was fair/good but wished for a better experience for our last night in Amsterdam. Very disappointed.

Was a nice cozy sushi place with quality sushi (better than all you can eat, lesser than omakase). Prices are reasonable and they have a wide selection of sake to order as well. Would recommend for good sushi at reasonable prices.

Amazing authentic experience! The fish were incredibly fresh—definitely try the bluefin fatty tuna (otoro).The rice was perfectly seasoned and not too dense. Small, intimate atmosphere perfect for a date. Service was attentive, and our waiter provided great recommendations. Will definitely visit again.

One of the best nigiri’s in Amsterdam, we keep coming back. Last time the rice was not 100% (didn’t feel the rice vinegar in it at all) but the fish was fresh, large enough and delicious. You order via a QR code, definitely book a spot, because the place can sit like 18 people together.

I was excited to try this hyped sushi place but I won’t return. The food was definitely great, but the experience didn’t match this quality. We sat at a big table on tatami mats but the music right next to my ear was strange and the back rests partially broken. Service didn’t really explain at all how ordering works and since you need to order with your phone I assumed there would be public wifi but no. Only go if you are really into top quality sushi but otherwise there are better places.

I finally had some proper sushi in the Netherlands! It was a shame they didn't serve Japanese-style tea and soup, but the sushi was really delicious.

The sushi is quite decent although expensive and it’s one of the few places in Amsterdam with Toro tuna. But the biggest drawback is that they don’t serve tap water and instead make you pay 1€ for each glass of what they call “filtered” water. I am not arguing whether its filtered or not, but for me free tap water is non-negotiable for any restaurant that cares for their customers (at least in Europe).

Five stars for me. The creative maki we ordered were delicious especially the baka salmon roll. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but worth it for the quality and flavors. The pure matcha was also really good, especially with the red beans. That said, even though we picked the “strong” option, it wasn’t as bold or intense as expected. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code at the table, which is convenient, though it might not be everyone’s preference. Overall, a great spot if you’re craving creative sushi and a nice matcha treat.

I don't recommend the upstairs seating; you sit at one big table with lots of other people. You don't really sit on a "chair". The menu isn't super extensive, sushi okayyy~

I visit Amsterdam every month for business, and this place has the best nigiri and maki in town. The fish is always fresh, the presentation is beautiful, and the quality is consistently excellent. It’s become my go-to spot whenever I’m in the city. Highly recommended for sushi lovers!

Nice place with a large shared table upstairs, which can be fun if you don’t mind sitting with strangers. Unfortunately, it can get quite noisy. The staff are polite, but service can be a bit slow at times since they have to go up and down to the kitchen.

Meh. Ordered the crazy tuna roll twice now, and every time there were hard bits of sinew in it. Hoped it was a mistake the first time. Think it was made from the trimmings from the Omakase restaurant. The salmon roll, though, is fine every time. All in all, high expectations every time that aren't met.

We had an absolutely terrible experience. I made a reservation a full week in advance and clearly stated that we were celebrating our anniversary. I specifically requested a nice table and mentioned that a small dessert gesture would be appreciated for the occasion. Instead, we were seated right next to the entrance, without question the worst table in the entire restaurant, with the door constantly opening and closing every few minutes. It was cold, uncomfortable, and completely ruined the atmosphere of what was supposed to be a special evening. When we politely asked to move to another table, we were flat-out refused. No effort was made to accommodate us, no explanation was given, and no attempt at compensation or even basic courtesy was offered. The staff showed zero empathy and seemed completely indifferent to our situation. It is unacceptable that a reservation made in advance for a special occasion was treated with such disregard. The lack of care, professionalism, and basic hospitality was honestly shocking. We left feeling frustrated and deeply disappointed.

The food was very good, but the atmosphere and service were unfortunately a bit lacking. We had a reservation for 8:15 PM with a group of six, but we weren't seated until 8:30 PM. Furthermore, the kitchen was only open until 9:15 PM, so we had to rush to order and eat. This made the experience less enjoyable, especially considering the price. Tip: Don't book the last time slot.

I don't write many reviews, but this one really needs to be said: the best sushi in Amsterdam. It's freshly made, and you can taste it. No mayonnaise on your sushi to mask the unpleasant flavors. Come here for pure taste and quality!

The sushi was delicious, to begin with. The prices were relatively reasonable by Dutch standards. I read reviews before going and didn't think the service would be a problem, but this time it was a bit awful... When I entered the restaurant, it was already full. It was fine until I was seated, but then they left me there without any explanation. The rule of taking off your shoes on the tatami mats varied widely in adherence, consumables weren't replenished, staff ignored me when I called them using a QR code, my first drink didn't arrive for 30 minutes, the sake bottle was noticeably dirty, etc. There were several Japanese staff members in the dining area, and I could tell they were busy, but... I could tell they were irritated, and there seemed to be some tension between the staff, perhaps because they didn't get along. It was a shame, especially considering the delicious food.

Most of the nigiri were fresh and tasted good. Not the uni, however. The hojicha slush was so so good yummy😋

I'll never, ever come here again. I made a reservation a week in advance, and we were assigned a table right next to the door by the entrance, which was constantly open for takeaway, with the outside temperature at 0 degrees Celsius. There were also people standing right up against the table waiting for their orders. It's only natural that I didn't want that table because it's awful. The staff refused to move us, completely ignored us, and claimed the owner had insisted we wouldn't be given another table. The nerve to give that table next to the door to customers in freezing temperatures in that 2x2 square meter viewing box with everyone in the aisle next to you. Even if your sushi gave me superpowers, it wouldn't be worth it. Terrible service, and I'll never come here again. By the way, I had a delicious meal at Pizzeria OOST around the corner!

First time visiting Sushi Fanatics. The food itself was good and clearly made with care, so no complaints there. That said, the overall experience was a bit of a letdown. We had a reservation and weren’t quite sure what to expect. The place has different seating areas, but we were seated right at the front. It seemed fine at first, but with the door constantly opening and closing for takeaway orders, it quickly lost any “restaurant” feeling. At one point, staff were sitting very close to our table, which felt a bit awkward, and the table wasn’t properly set. We were told they had run out of plates and teapots, so we were given alternatives. Not the end of the world, but it added to the improvised feeling of the evening. The seating also wasn’t very comfortable the chairs were too high for the table, so we were constantly hunched over while eating. By the end, it honestly felt more like eating in a takeaway spot than sitting down for a proper meal, which was a bit of a bummer given all the great reviews this place has. I’d still say the food is worth it, but if you’re booking, I’d recommend asking not to sit at the front, especially the table next to the entrance door. I might try it again in a different dining spot to see if the experience changes, but for now this review feels accurate.

Sushi was great! Loved the Blue fin tuna and Hokkaido scallop flambé nigiri’s. The matcha latte and Hojicha latte were also very good. Great how you can adjust the sweetness and intensity of the drinks. Service was good.

A go to every time I travel to Amsterdam, fresh and delicious fish, a large choice for every sushi lover, you won't be disappointed. Kind service, I recommend.

Mixed feelings about Sushi Fanatics… If I order €20 and ask for fresh wasabi when ordering online, it's no problem. If I spend €150, they give me nothing. I've also been told I didn't get any chopsticks when ordering. Experiences in the restaurant are okay.

What an amazing place! The staff is so friendly and welcoming and the sushi is truly the greatest sushi I’ve had outside of Japan. The food is fresh and authentic, inside it’s cozy and the matcha is delicious! I can’t recommend this place enough.

Second time here! Coming back cause of the tuna nigiri. I don't think you can get o-toro or chu-toro in just any sushi place in NL, and this place serve it super fresh!! All the other nigiri are also great. Hotate, hamachi, etc. which you will notice if it's not fresh. You won't need to worry about that here. Definitely ruined other sushi place for me 🤣 the freshness and very diverse choices pulls me back each time. I don't mind spending more than usual with the quality.

The food is nice, but the service is a bit lackluster. It's like 'scan the qr and order everything in the web browser' rather than someone coming to take your order. Like sometimes it might be nice to know what things are or you might just have questions about things. Just feels a bit low effort to be honest. The servers where nice though, but was expecting more of a personal touch.

I was very much looking forward to dine here and the food absolutely did not disappoint. We loved every bit of it. What did disappoint though was the service. Very unprofessional. After contact with the manager I know why, they make up excuses for the staff and didn’t take us seriously.

high quality sushi in amsterdam - one of my favourite rolls is the crazy tuna. I religiously order once a week via Uber Eats and I recently went to try at the restaurant too, they don’t have a lot of tables but they do have a very big one meant to be shared at the top floor! we were four people and it was really nice and although you sit with other people it was still good experience in terms of space/acoustic. you also need to take your shoes off!

I had a pleasant experience at Sushi Fanatics and wanted to share it. The quality of ingredients impressed me a lot, the fish tasted fresh and I was especially impressed by the Unagi Flambé. They managed to preserve the eely taste, while also having a nicely strong sweet sauce and I haven't seen this being pulled off that often. Every bite I had was good, especially for the price, which while a bit on the higher side compared to all sushi, is in my opnion more than fair for this quality. When I came in I was a bit worried that the atmosphere would be too boisterous, but it was quite immersive, which made the experience better in the end. The service was good, nothing fancy, but it worked. The matcha I got, also seemed high quality. Though the way the richness of the matcha was described on the menu was somewhat confusing and looking back I think I should've gone for the stronger option. I'm not sure how to actually improve this, since Matcha isn't really a staple in the Netherlands, but maybe something like a coffee bean counter out of 5 could be an option. Since coffee is something people are quite familiar with. I feel like the milder Matcha would be 2/5 matcha leaves, but idk whether that actually work. It's just that saying 3-5 times the European standard is very confusing. Another mild annoyance was how old the QR codes you need to scan are, my phone was struggling with picking it up. During the plating some wasabi got on my Inari, which made it taste quite badly, I didn't raise this issue when eating(so they didn't have a chance to respond), because I don't think it's a big deal, but it did happen. Another point I wanted to make was that there was too little rice in the sushi to my taste. This wasn't really noticeable for the most part, since the ingredients were just very good. But when I got to the inari, it did become very noticeable. I am unaware of how it is done classically, but the sweet tofu felt very overpowering compared to the rice, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if there was about 1.25 times the rice. Nevertheless, these are quite small complaints in what was otherwise an excellent experience. I am very impressed with this restaurant and will probably be returning.

If you want to eat real Japanese sushi, four of the eight people were Japanese, which proves it's very good. Your perspective on takeaway sushi will change forever!

The high ratings must be bought, as they cannot be real! This restaurant has appalling staff. They lie to you and show zero care. The sushi might be OK but it truly is not worth the rude behaviour. Skip and go to better places where they do treat you and the food you eat better.

Always great, well priced sushi with a great assortiment of sakes including fairly uncommon nigorizakes. My favorite remains the baka salmon, and flambéd salmon sashimi. Great to sit outdoors here but the back table can be a little bit of a squeeze.

Those who follow my comments closely know that I only give good marks, but this is explained by the luck I have to encounter only wonderful flavors everywhere I go, and my detour to sushi fanatics only prolonged this pleasure. In a peaceful and calm place, what I was able to taste there created a symphony of tastes that I can only applaud. Go there for a moment of calm and tasting and you will be served.
