Sorry, but I don't understand why everyone is raving about this; sushi isn't made fresh. The nori wasn't crispy once, it was just soggy every time. Once and never again. As a well-traveled traveler who visits Japan and many places around the world, I know good sushi isn't it.

Most authentic, affordable and delicious sushi I’ve had (yes, it does not have to be 100-150€ omakase sushi…) in the Netherlands so far. I cannot recommend enough the tuna, especially the chuutoro and ootoro, which is quite difficult to find usually. I’ve tried most of the options on the menu and all of them were of solid quality. The rice is perfectly seasoned the way we like it, firm enough, and the fish is definitely oh so fresh. We were all very content to be able to find food that was on par with the one we’d casually eat in Japan, and definitely come back quite often to this spot. Decor is nice and elegant, without trying to be pretentious. Never had an issue with the staff who is reactive and polite. The place is pretty popular but I never struggled to find a seat or table, whether alone or with multiple people. The matcha and houjicha also happen to be some of the best and most generous I can find in the country, even if the star of the show definitely is the sushi.

Since a couple of my friends left reviews I thought it was only necessary as the person whose birthday it was to leave a full explanation as to our disappointment with the service at sushi fanatics on 09.08.2025. It is painful to leave this review considering we love the food at sushi fanatics and have been there several times for many special occasions. However our last visit left a bitter taste in our mouth and the response of management to the situation only exacerbated that feeling. Contrary to the incredibly defensive posture taken by the owner in response to my friends review (which unfortunately speaks further to the problem), our disappointment with the service was not linked to us not receiving "freebies" but rather in 3 factors; 1) general attitude of the staff 2) subpar quality of actual server performance and 3) being charged over what we ordered. Specifically, as my friend mentioned when we sat down all of us were excited to have a great meal for my birthday. Out of such excitement I mentioned that it was my birthday to one of the staff members to which he responded "yes sure" and practically rolling his eyes, which we found incredibly odd and cold from a server (coming from a person who used to work as a waiter). We tried to waive it off, however once we were done with our main course the staff did not pick up the dirty plates till our departure which was about 40-50 minutes post main dish. We thought initially that they might be busy however we could see them chitchatting and laughing near the cash register for a long while. We noticed a similar situation on other tables. The dirty plates were attracting many flies to our table and preventing us from enjoying the dessert. We further asked if the staff could put a candle in to the desert that we ordered, to which one of the members of staff answered that it's not possible. When we asked why (since during our last birthday celebration at sushi fanatics they provided the candles and gave us a free desert which was not necessary but very nice) they mentioned that since then the policy must have changed. When we were paying for the bill we mentioned our confusion regarding the candles and the desert not because we wanted freebies but just an explanation as to why the policy changed since our last visit which was not too long ago. The manager started pushing us to tell him which waiter it was because they must deal with him since providing candles and free desert is absolutely not allowed to begin with and told us we were "lucky" the last time and shouldn't expect any free deserts. This statement particularly puzzled us, where we were aiming to clarify the inconsistency in the policy regarding candles/birthdays, the manager got defensive and instead of apologizing for the inconsistency started grilling us about the staff and tried to pass us up as some sort of freeloaders (a sentiment further reflected in their response to my friends' review) which yet again is odd considering we are repeat customers and our bill on my birthday and our previous visits was always around around 200€. Finally, to add insult to injury after checking the bill they charged us 3 extra glasses of tap water than we have actually had (we drank 8 glasses but they charged us for 11) which usually would not be a big deal but considering their tap water per glass costs 80 cents and in combination with their attitude further dampened our experience. I have reviewed many places and strive to be a fair reviewer and I try to give restaurants some benefit of doubt, however after witnessing their insensitivity during our last visit it was apparent that the staff was only interested in ensuring that their behinds are covered rather than being understanding of our genuine and well founded confusion. The response to my friends' review only cemented that feeling, displaying how irrational and out of touch the restaurant management is, trying to somehow involve "matcha shortage" in a discussion about their service quality which genuinely gave me a good laugh. I hope this clarifies things.

i feel the need to write this review because we tried to discuss the situation in person, but no compassion or understanding was shown by the staff at Sushi Fanatics. it was disappointing that they didn’t offer any small gesture or compliment for our friend’s birthday.. especially since, at the beginning, when he mentioned he was the birthday boy, the waiter simply ignored it and replied “yes, sure.” on top of that, they charged us more than they should have for tap water (0.80 cents per one small glass is ridiculous!) although the food is really nice and the terrace is lovely in the warmer season, nothing can make up for how much the service is lacking :( a great meal should leave you with fond memories, but here it was the service that left the strongest and most disappointing impression.

Taste of makis is good, but way above average price (18-20 eur for 6 makis). The worst part to wait 1.5h for gyozas what they forgot to make twice even after asking for them again. When we decided to leave and asked to cancel, they remembered and started to cook pushing to take away when we just wanted to cancel already. Not nice.

Really great sushi spot. We ordered the 10 piece sushi set and really enjoyed the variety and experience of different tastes. The staff were very kind and helpful and made the overall experience a really great memory. I will say that it is somewhat on the pricier side, so maybe more of a special-occasion kind of spot for me personally.

ごちそうさまでした The quality of the sushi here is truly exceptional. Some of the pieces were even better than what I’ve had in Japan or korea — incredibly fresh, with perfect texture and flavor. Nothing tasted fishy at all. everything was clean, delicate, and delicious. The quality was so high that I didn’t feel the price was expensive at all. In fact, considering what was offered, it felt very reasonable. I also tried the matcha latte, and it was rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. A pleasant surprise! To be honest, I found this restaurant much better than Yabase in Düsseldorf — in terms of food quality and taste If you’re looking for authentic, high-quality sushi in Europe, I highly recommend this place. Bewildered of my experience today here. Attracted by the good reviews and left disappointed. Started with some side dishes. Easygoing i thought… Gyoza Veggie - filling was just mashed, couldn’t define anything in there. Gyoza Chicken - seasoned decently, but both gyozas were fried. Doesn’t get worse than that, in the whole of japan you will not find someone who will put Gyozas in the fryer. Its dry on the outside and takes away what we love about Gyozas.. Pumpkin Korokke - taste was okay (out the deepfreezer as well?) but served with no sauce. Korokke always has to have Tonkatsu/Worcester Sauce for me at least. Was offered eel sauce as a replacement later on. Sushi Platter - Good selection, skills on this one decent but fish quality? Expected more when i read the site „we sourced all of our ingredients carefully“. This is underlined by my picture of the Oo-toro, 5EUR per piece. If you give it a google search, you’ll see what the actual thing looks like. So it was just too many little things which made the whole experience unenjoyable. Partially because of the service who seems to be doing their best but inexperienced. Maybe you will find better luck on a day where its not busy.

I'm extremely disappointed with the restaurant's once again disrespectful response. They're just looking for a free meal? As a regular customer, I've ordered from here more than 10 times in the past year! I expect complaints to be taken seriously and handled appropriately. It's unacceptable that I'm being called a liar when I offered to pick up the order and was never asked for a photo. The owner's distortion of facts to justify an unsanitary product demonstrates a lack of respect. Delivering unsanitary food is unacceptable. I've reported this to Uber and the NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority), who take food safety seriously.

If you enjoy sushi with hairs, you've come to the right place. After calling the restaurant, they didn't find it all that disgusting, and I could just eat the rest of the sushi. I was given two options: a half refund or nothing. They can't believe that once you find this kind of disgusting stuff in your food, you can't even eat a bite. I visited this place back in February and was truly amazed by the quality and taste of the food. The sushi melted in my mouth, with a perfect balance between rice and fish. Unfortunately, this time the experience was completely different: the rice was bland, the fish was overly fatty and sometimes hard to chew and most of the onigiri lacked flavor. Even the soy sauce couldn’t save the situation. The outdoor table was still dirty from the previous guests.

Went there with a bunch of friends, as some of them are about to move to other countries so that would be their last hangout in the Netherlands. Food - amazing. Eel and seared scallop - recommended. Very fresh and tasty. Place itself is somewhat small and you should definitely reserve a bit in advance. One of the waiters was passive-aggressive, which was noted by my friends as well and commented on as “kinda ruined the experience”. But if you there for the sushi - it’s really good:)

Easily the best sushi spot in Amsterdam when it comes to quality and value. The fish is always incredibly fresh, and it’s rare to find such a wide variety of sushi in Europe. It’s truly on par with what you’d get in Japan. The takeout option is also super convenient. You can order online and choose a pickup time as soon as 30 minutes later, which makes it perfect for a spontaneous treat on your way home. They also have a lovely cafe section. I had a great experience here! Everything I ordered was high quality and perfectly prepared. The sushi was fresh, rich in flavor and beautifully presented. The salmon nigiri and the sushi rolls with salmon eggs particularly stood out - you can really taste the freshness of the fish. The matcha was also a pleasant surprise: full, creamy and authentic in taste, something you rarely get. I also ordered the marinated chicken – super tender, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. A delicious addition to sushi and highly recommended for those looking for some variety. Sushi Fanatics fully deserves its name. Here you come for real quality and love for Japanese food. I'll definitely be back!

The sushi was indeed very good. The fish quality was excellent, someone paid lots of attention to selecting the right fish. The rice was japanese or very similar, which is rare to find, as lots of sushi places use low quality rice. Overall very good sushi. We had the sushi mix, recommended. They also have impressive sake selection. The sitting upstairs was a bit too basic, one long table shared with other people, like in a cheap eatery. The sitting downstairs was cute.

We had high expectations for this place but were disappointed. The chicken gyozas and the dragon roll were great. Try them for sure. But for the prices they are asking the sushi is just ok. The Crazy Tuna roll was so chewy we could not eat it. Not recommended. We left it on the table. See photo. And the yellow tail nigiri was rubbery and also not nice. The warm saki came cold. ? They call themselves “sushi fanatics” but there was little that felt like anyone here was being fanatical about making great. Also, it’s quite expensive. We paid 135 euros for three of us for a late lunch, and to be honest we didn’t order that much. We won’t be back.

I found it completely unprofessional and uncomfortable, so I decided not to dine there at all. If I had been told otherwise, I would have taken that into consideration or requested a different arrangement. It was never communicated to me that the seating would involve sharing space in such a way. Additionally, I must disagree with your description of my behavior. At no point was I rude—I remained calm, polite, and spoke respectfully to your staff throughout the interaction, I respectfully and quitely leave the restaurant. I truly don’t understand why such a claim was made, If your team felt I was being rude, I would appreciate knowing specifically what I said or did that was interpreted that way, or provide evidence of that. Also, if the restaurant was already fully booked, as you mentioned, customers should not be able to make a reservation through your website. That is entirely the restaurant’s responsibility, and it caused avoidable frustration. It’s unfair to blame the customer for issues arising from your own booking system.

The waitress stared me down as I waited by the door until I realized she was not going to acknowledge me unless I walked up to her. She then seated my father and I in the corner. She showed no emotion as we wondered out loud how we would get into our seats with the neighboring table an inch away from ours. I suppose it was our problem and not hers. You order through a QR code on the table which really made service nonexistent. The nigiri was decent but was nothing to write home about. The maki rolls were worse. I would not think about coming back here to dine again unless I want to be glared at by some twenty-something year old.

ABSOLUTELY ENJOYED IT. Been really struggling to find a good sushi place in Amsterdam (that is not a takeaway shop or a super expensive omakase restaurant), and this place is such a gem. Fresh and good quality sushi, but still reasonably priced. We received very friendly and attentive service (Ayami was the sweetest), and also enjoyed the cosy ambience on the tatami mats upstairs!

Delicious sushi in unassuming place. People ordered coffee and shared tables outside. But the sushi, rice and Wasabi were top notch. You order by QR code and enter what you want. Nice selection of sake and other Japanese spirits.

Food is high quality, fresh, delicious, good portions. From my opinion maybe a bit too high prices. Place is cozy and nice, but definitely should pay more attention to staff, and their aprouch to clients.

As a sushi lover, I can say this is an authentic Japanese restaurant. I was a little disappointed when I first arrived because my husband and I were sitted by the entertance of the restaurant. There were a few tiny tables and the stools were uncomfortable. I asked if we could be sitted inside, but they said I had to indicate that when we made a reservation. Next time, I'll ask to be sitted by the sushi bar. You scan a QR code and order your food. The food comes out pretty fast. They have a good selection of sake as well. When you make a reservation, it would be helpful of the restaurant would explain different types of sittings.

Very tasty sushi. However, the selection for vegetarians is very small and disappointing. Nigiri with cucumber, nigiri with avocado, Japanese egg and vegetarian gyooza. That's about it.

Valentines Day Disaster – Left Starving & Completely Disappointed ⚠️ If you want frustration, hunger, and regret instead of a romantic dinner, this is the place. Absolute chaos. • 6:00 PM reservation. Arrived 5:55 PM, seated on time. • Ordered at 6:08 PM. No WiFi, service was awful. • Drinks came in 10 min. A hojicha (€11), a Coke (€3.50), and a cup of filtered tap water (€0.80). • Waited 90 MINUTES. No food. Nothing. Just us staring at an empty table. No waiter checked upon us. • Asked a waiter – our order NEVER even reached the kitchen. 🤯 Manager’s “solution”? • Remove the Coke + water from the bill. Wow. • If we reordered, another 30-40 min wait – but hey, free sake (which I couldn’t drink because I was driving). Other tables were leaving too. Even getting our deposit refunded took 20 more minutes. 🚨 Final damage: ✅ €15 wasted on parking ✅ €11 down the drain for hojicha ✅ €20 spent elsewhere just to actually eat ✅ A ruined Valentine’s Day ⚠️ This place crumbled under the pressure of a busy night. 🚨 Valentine’s Nightmare 🚨 What was supposed to be a romantic sushi night turned into chaos, hunger, and a waste of a lot of time & money! We had a 2-hour reservation, but after 1.5 hours of waiting (and two rounds of drinks), we asked and were told our food order NEVER went through—even though our drinks from the same order arrived immediately?.. No staff even questioned why we had no food as they brought our second round of drinks with 75% of our time already gone. And it wasn’t just us—everyone in the restaurant was getting nervous, having waited over an hour with no food. It was clear the place couldn’t handle the business. We booked a month in advance, they knew it was a fully booked holiday, yet no one got their food on time—and they were still doing takeaway orders! 😩 When we demanded a full deposit refund, they refused. Instead, they still charged €12 for hojicha but graciously skipped our second-round Coke (which my partner desperately ordered because he was getting lightheaded from low blood sugar) and the tiny 80-cent glass of tap water. We could’ve argued longer, but every wasted minute meant more Amsterdam parking fees down the drain. The manager was nowhere to be found on this busy holiday, and at some point, they even stopped answering their staff’s desperate calls. After another 25 minutes of waiting, we got back €8 in a pile of heavy small change—and left starving, frustrated, and with a ruined/no Valentine’s dinner. The waitress was laughing happily at the bar with her colleagues and eating gyoza though :) ⚠️ Would NOT recommend. Absolute disaster.

2nd round the scallop nigiri tasted and smelled quite bad. The moment I put it in my mouth, literally had to spit it out in a napkin. My bf came to the bar and told the waitress, they seemed to be surprised hearing that, said gonna check and come back with an explanation. Around 10 mins later, one of the waitresses came and spoke Dutch to my bf (I don’t speak Dutch), loosely translation she said she checked with the kitchen and there is nothing wrong with the scallops, it tasted and smelled different is because of different suppliers! The waitress just shook her head and said no, there was nothing wrong, just different suppliers different taste and smell. I am disappointed with the rotten scallop but people can make mistakes, as long as you fix it and own up to it. However I give 1 star because of the waitress’s attitude and extremely unprofessional. Not even one apology to us as well as the waitresses ignoring all the complaints from us and justifying it with “different suppliers different taste and smell” explaination.

One of the best restaurants in Amsterdam to get a really fresh Sushi. 🍣 My recommendation is to try the Baka Salmon roll and the Rainbow dragon maki. Everything is just so fresh ⭐ I'd recommend booking a table in advance.

This place doesn't exist on its own. It's very confusing, but it's an extension of Musashi Sushi & Grill. I had to order through Uber Eats because I didn't understand it, which resulted in an extra €2.50. Delivery was super fast, and the food was delicious, just what you'd expect. The only difference is that the portions aren't very large.
