Tabletop game cafe "2 Klaveren" in Kinkerbuurt

We visited this café-bar expecting a lively board-game spot, but it has changed quite a lot. 🎲 The place is no longer the fun, youthful games bar you’d imagine from Google Maps. Instead, it has become more of a traditional pub for older gentlemen who enjoy a quiet beer, and the games are simply there in the background rather than part of the atmosphere. 🍺 It doesn’t even go by the same name listed online, and the vibe is very different from what we expected. There’s no real energy, no playful feel and nothing particularly modern or cool about it. If you’re looking for a proper board-game bar, this isn’t the place, but if you want a calm drink in a classic pub setting, it might suit you. 👍

Nice place to play games, luckily I don't like music, they have tea and beer. What I found disappointing was the customer service experience. There were two of us and we wanted to pay separately, but they wouldn't let us. I find it unfriendly and completely absurd. That's why I'm giving it 3 stars and not 4.

I called twice to ask about booking a table. The first time, the person answered, but after I asked if I could reserve a table in English, the call was suddenly cut off. I thought it might have been a mistake, so I tried again. But the second time, as soon as I said “hello,” the call was immediately ended. It was a bit confusing and felt unwelcoming as someone who doesn’t speak Dutch.

The food is simple but delicious, a good plate of food for a good price. It is always cozy and everyone is super friendly.

It works well as a games cafe Good atmosphere. Lots of options to play. Would like to see some more vegetarian options on the menu. Vegan is impossible. But as a cafe, great!

Great bar with a great variety of games. Staff friendly. Sometimes it smells a bit stale, but it is in an old Amsterdam building. So that is not so bad.

I don’t find the place so great and it has little choices for games. Also the games are in a really poor condition and some disgusting to even touch.

Old games with sticky cards and no good variety

Owner was rude, coffee was disgusting, and any question about allergens was "answered" with disrespect and a shrug.

What a place, chill and play any game you wish, or just meet friends and family for a drink…I haven’t been to bar / cafe like this. The UK should take note. Great being with family for sure, nice playing risk…but you need the right atmosphere and dare I say it, if you so inclined the right tipple on draught. Superb…

It was the worst experience so far here in Amsterdam. The old woman was arrogant, rude, and definitely out of place for running a business in 2024. Playing chess in a cold basement for 4 hours should also be illegal. If you want to discover how expats are treated in this city, well, that's the place to go.

Great place to visit if you are looking for a game be it magic the gathering or the great expanse of the house board game library. Highly recommend for a bite and a drink as well.

Very nice cafe, I recommended it to friends and loved coming. Not anymore, because the owner got angry because I wanted to charge my laptop. She was angry because I didn't ask. She also made a point that I had only ordered 1 coffee in two hours. I didn't want to say anything because I liked coming there, but I don't think I'll be back. Furthermore, it remains a nice cafe, unfortunately no longer for me. :(

Only place to draft MTG in Amsterdam. Draft is on Monday at 19h if you want to join. Nice atmosphere, kitchen is quite ok and very cheap for Amsterdam.

Nice board games, but they're a bit old. They write receipts by hand, which is old-fashioned. They made us order something within 10-20 minutes of getting there, even though we told them we were waiting for our friends.

Cosy and cheap cafe in Amsterdam West. They have a decent selection of (very used) boardgames that you can play for free, but many meet here to play their own. Also very popular with cardgame players (MTG, FAB, Keyforge, Netrunner) and enthusiasts of games like Bridge, Chess and Go. It is almost never full except during Magic night and the staff is very friendly. The drinks are very cheap for Amsterdam standards and the food is simple but delicious, as well as also being well-priced. Located very close to a tram stop and only 15 minutes from Centraal.

Heel leuk spelletjescafé! Het terras is gezellig en de tosti’s heerlijk. De barvrouw heeft hart voor de zaak en is ontzettend lief voor klanten. Ik kom er elke zomer weer en het slaat nooit de plank mis. Zeker een aanrader, vooral als je van een competitief potje risk houdt!

Lovely place to play some board games with friends! A lot of MtG but also some board games available to use.

We stayed nearby and popped in here when we seen it had some games for playing. Not a lot of English games but a huge selection of Dutch ones. Clearly a good place for locals to hang out and enjoy a game. There were lots of people huddled over game boards. It was so nice to see! Bar staff were very nice and chatted away with us. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area. We didn't have any food so can't comment on that.

La verdad es que descubrí este local por casualidad, después de caminar sin rumbo por Amsterdam, ingrese y pedí la sopa del día, la mejor sopa de champiñones que he probado y además me comí una hamburguesa casera (Dutch Burger) excelente atención y el ambiente muy divertido, mucha gente jugando diferentes juegos de mesa

Went to play Flesh and Blood. The people are quite welcoming and the atmosphere is really comfy. Would definitely recommend! Also, do try the Ice tea!

Geweldige locatie. Leuk concept. Veel van t personeel is vriendelijk. Behalve een extreem sjagerijnige oude vrouw. Ik zou er echt meteen ontslaan. Echt een rothouding tegen klanten. Echt schandalig. Van dr nonverbale communicatie tot haar gedrag. Van de dingen die ze zegt tot haar tegenzin om klanten te helpen. Ze moet zichzelf echt uit dit cafe verwijderen. Janken over dat pinnen dr teveel moeite kost. En dat ze cash wil hebben. Ze probeert gewoon belasting te ontduiken en geld achterover te drukken. Wat is er nou sneller en makkelijker voor de klant dan contactloos pinnen. Ze begrijpt niet dat de service industrie om de klant draait en niet om haar.
