Tai Soen in Wijk 06 Binnenstad

After years of walking past it and seeing the good reviews, we went here for dinner yesterday. We were hoping for an authentic Chinese restaurant that didn't have to be trendy, but this place had no atmosphere. We ordered dim sum and one larger dish. The quality of the food was very disappointing and tasteless compared to all the other dim sum I've had before. In short: it was nice to finally have been to this place, but we won't be going back.

The food takes a very long time to arrive

My brother and I have been coming here for more than a year and it never fails us. We either order for dine-in or takeaway. This can be for either lunch or dinner, both are fine. There are weeks that we eat here more than once, because it's one of the best places you can eat in Utrecht! The quality and value you get for the price is amazing. The new interior feels a lot more open and modern in comparison to what it was before. I'm really happy to see that people are finally finding the place as it is more crowded than before There are days where its definitely recommended to have a reservation. Previously walk-in, if you were with 2 people was possible, but nowadays it can be difficult. If you come here, I recommend ordering from the Dimsum menu. We always order the red chicken feet, cha sui kau, soybean wrapped spring rolls, potstickers and sea food rice porridge or fo nan

The atmosphere was really bad for Boxing Day. After the renovation, it's become a large room with tables and large windows that give the impression of dining outdoors. Too open and... The design lacks atmosphere. The food is good but very sparse. The service is good as always.

If you are looking to satisfy a Chinese food craving, look no further. This place is a gem! The standout for me is the crispy noodles; the sauce is just perfect. The dumplings are solid as well. I’ve visited more than 5 times now, and it never disappoints

It hasn't become any more inviting since the renovation; it's become such a bare place, it looks like an aquarium. Even barer than an aquarium, actually... No atmosphere. Please, create more atmosphere! We were also unpleasantly surprised today that they were suddenly closed (Tuesday, December 23rd), even though the website says they're open EVERY day! I had wanted to get Chinese takeout, but that was suddenly not possible. We're disappointed, and that's why I'm giving them a bad rating.

We had a great meal. It was in a rather unusually decorated Chinese restaurant, with a somewhat sterile setting.

You don't have to worry about being overstuffed and not being able to finish the food; they've taken that into account. Furthermore, after the renovation, the restaurant has been given an "open look," so you feel like you're dining outside on the sidewalk.

The mochi is way too expensive.

The duck and chicken were gone, "That's always the case on Saturday nights." So you just buy more duck and chicken? Otherwise, the food was okay, but there was too much sauce and onion in the dishes.

The entrance suggests otherwise. But this is a must-try if you enjoy traditional, authentic Chinese food. The food is delicious and well-prepared. The service is fast. And above all, it's affordable.

The duck was 2cm in height and it was mostly skin, als it had no bones it was removed like “???” This is not supposed to be served for the prices on the menu. might aswell just go to the toko if you crave duck it’s less than a 10 min walk which also actually fills your stomach. This experience felt more like a foreign kind of concept which failed miserably, the noodles lord have mercy lets not go into details, i have never seen a restaurant that dared to snip the noodles. If i have to sum up my experience: this was the worst restaurant i ever went to in Utrecht. Personally i dont think they need to work on the interior but put more focus on the menu itself. I actually dont care about the prices but the joke in itself is i left even more hungry then when i arrived.

Taisoen has never failed me. The food is consistently delicious, and the service is always fast and efficient. Every time I visit, I leave happy and satisfied. As a Chinese restaurant, they maintain great quality and flavor, and it’s always a pleasure to come back. Definitely one of my go-to places when I’m in the area. Highly recommended!

Excellent Chinese food in Utrecht. We ordered from the Chinese menu not the general menu. We loved the vegetarian spring rolls, pork buns and onion pancakes. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Definitely book your table in advance - it's very busy.

The best dim sum restaurant in Utrecht and the surrounding area. Since the change of ownership in 2024, prices have risen by at least 30%, so we don't go there as often anymore.

The porridge was delicious, but paying 3.70 euros for a small cup of hot water was a bit scary. Not recommended.

I'd personally like to wish Tai Soen and the staff all the best and success with the new look ;-) for the next few years. And I hope the dim sum menu has also been updated, so you don't have to search for the dish with a magnifying glass if you don't have healthy, young eyes anymore ;-)! I haven't been there yet, but I'm very curious and I'm always very satisfied with the staff: friendly, pleasant, and professional, so accommodating!

You can order so many different dishes here. From dim sum dishes to platters with various meats, shrimp, scallops, and even steamed oysters! The Peking duck with pancakes and the homemade iced tea are highly recommended. These are just a few examples, as they have much more on the menu. And it's a 10-minute walk from Utrecht Central Station, so it's ideal.

This one was a bit weird. Food is good but I couldn't help but think it was made to the Dutch palate. Quite bland, as in specifically avoiding strong flavors of any kind. Perhaps asking for hot sauce is the play but I won't be going back to find out

At first glance, I thought this restaurant was a Chinese restaurant adapted to Dutch taste but I was pleasantly surprised. I've eaten at Tai Soen several times so far and every time it's been fantastic. I definitely recommend eating here if you want to try authentic Cantonese dim sum.

Great Cantonese food! As a Cantonese myself, I always come back here to get my dim sum fix. Always reliable in terms of portions and flavours. This place is also bit more affordable compared to other places. Fast service too. Worth the 5 stars!!

Unfriendly, had to wait a very long time for the food and quite expensive

Small restaurant, we enjoyed the food.

Oops, we had a problem: 30 diners and a mix-up with the caterer. Still no food by 5:30, and dinner was supposed to be served to the group at 6:00 PM. We hurried to Tai Soen, where we received a friendly welcome. They helped us choose just the right amount of food and assured us it would be ready on time. We received a complimentary drink while we waited and were even offered to walk with us because it was a rather large (and heavy) order. What excellent service, we won't soon forget this! The food was also excellent, for a good price. Kudos!

It was so delicious that I forgot to take pictures. The roast duck rice and Yangzhou fried rice were really delicious. I think they were better than the Chinese food in Rotterdam. It was roast duck, not braised duck. The flavor was strong and the meat was not too dry and very juicy. Although the price was a bit more expensive than in Rotterdam, and I ordered chrysanthemum tea, which cost a little bit, but because the overall experience was very good and the service attitude was very friendly, I give it five stars!

I accidentally had a pretty good roast duck rice in the Netherlands, and the Yangzhou fried rice is also delicious!

Food was great. Lot of options and great taste. Service differed per person. It was a bit slower than I expected. Food also didn't came all at once. 2 people had to wait for the plain rice while the main dishes were already served. Also others could already start their dishes. The devices which would keep the dishes warm didn't had sufficient candles to keep said dishes warm and the waiters didn't checked up on that. Still a good place for good Chinese food.

A concept in Utrecht. Authentic Cantonese food, the likes of which you will not find outside Amsterdam, The Hague or Rotterdam. In contrast to these cities, the food here is still affordable. Friendly service and enough large tables for large groups to enjoy dim sum or a dinner. A bit hidden in the old part of Hoog Catherijne, for this reason it can certainly be called a hidden gem.

Food is too oily and services still can improve

The noodles and vegetables are very oily and salty. One of the male staff, maybe the boss, is very unfriendly. Will not return to this place.

Tasty and various dumplings, my daughter and I had a delicious meal there.

The rice noodle roll was so thick they should stop selling it I have no idea how could you make it so think, thickest rice noodle roll I’ve ever had, other food also did not live up to the standards

The roast duck and fried chicken were really unpalatable. They had no taste at all and didn't look like what they had cooked that day. Reporting it to the boss lady has no effect...

Always pleasantly busy and a great dim sun menu. Very tasty and worth a try.

Chinese food for affordable price ranges

Came for the authentic Cantonese dim sum that seem hard to find and was impressed with the quality and variety on offer, especially at almost any time of day. The remainder of the menu also seemed impressive with a variety of dishes going beyond just Cantonese cuisine. Service was great from all of the staff, and the interior has nice oriental decorations too.

You pay for the tea and the refill here, this should be free. First time I experience that.

I ordered three dim sums and packed them up. They made fried beef and gave it to me.

Tasty, but the dim sum in Rotterdam is even better. Too bad that the mochi ice cream, 2 small discs that were still hard frozen, cost almost 6 euros.

Super friendly staff and good service. Food was cooked to order and fast. Flavours were on point. The roasted duck tasted great and was juicy but the skin was not as crispy and a bit more chewy. Consider it: Would recommend and would return.

This is what a Chin. Ind. Spec. Rest. should be. They literally make fried dough in dough taste good! Try the veg/shrimp dumplings (in wooden baskets) and add copious "ketjap". These guys have been serving there since forever too. Would recommend.

Super tasty food, but what a child-unfriendly restaurant. A day of shopping and good food should also be possible with children. Our baby 6 months was a bit restless. We heard one man who works there say to his colleague "is he still not sleeping? I should have let him sleep a long time ago." Then the waitress brought our drinks and asked "doesn't he want to sleep?". It would be nice if it were out of concern for the child, but this was clearly out of fear of inconveniencing other guests. We couldn't change our baby anywhere in the toilets. Ultimately, with the help of the waitress, we changed them on 2 chairs. It's a shame because the food is really good. But not ideal with children.

Standard has drastically declined over the last year or so. I blame social media really; too many ‘influencers’ marking this as a ‘hidden gem’. And when an Asian restaurant has more non-Asian customers dining in, you know it’s gonna be disappointing. That’s not meant as an offensive comment, it’s just something I’ve seen happen in Asian restaurants before. My wife and I used to love going here because of the authenticity of the food, but the quality has just gotten worse and worse over time. After trying it one more time today, we agreed not to visit here for a good while. Maybe we’ll try again in a year or so. For now, it was not satisfying and frankly disappointing.

Very good and tasty Chinese food, both dim sum and hot dishes are recommended. We ate many different dim sum dishes and 2 main dishes. Good and fast service. Nice restaurant. The teapot was refilled automatically several times during the time we ate without having to say anything. All the food we ordered was good. Recommended.

What a great restaurant! I always go all the way to Rotterdam to eat good traditional Chinese food. We tried this and it is really delicious. The service is truly Chinese. So don't expect super European guest service. They work hard and they are busy. The lady took the time to help us with the correct order. And the host kindly moved our reservation to an hour earlier and had a chat. This is already a lot of service for a traditional real Chinese restaurant. The food is very good. They have a menu with the more common dishes that you can get at any Chinese restaurant around the corner and they have a delicious menu with good Dim Sum and delicious dishes. We enjoyed it very much! And will definitely come back. Parking is easy in the Hoog Caterijne P2 parking garage on the top floor. Then you almost arrive in front of the restaurant. Definitely recommended! Lovely people and delicious food. Ps order the Chinese ice tea, it is very tasty!

A classic authentic Cantonese Dim Sum restaurant, the kind you find all over the globe. The food consists of the well known traditional Dim Sum dishes and are good as always, just like the atmosphere, buzzing, busy and tables with friends and family or the busy business person. Tai Soen is the only authentic Dim Sum resaturant in the city of Utrecht and is therefore unique in the area between Pizza's and Kebbab. These authentic Dim Sum restaurants are a dying breed in The Netherlands. There is 1 left in the City Of Eindhoven, 2 left in the city of a Rotterdam and a handfull in the city of Amsterdam. So my rating is a tribute to the guts and glory of authentic Dim Sum resaturants for keep on going, and this time specifically to Tai Soen in Utrecht for their great food, authentic taste of dishes and for being there as a survivor in this ever changing world!

The food is really tasty, but because of the customer friendliness, my girlfriend and I will not come back here. No hello upon entering, card is put down without any explanation (you have to cross things out on the card). After asking how it works, the answer was: just tick and the waitress walked away. Unfortunately, more examples like this. Shame!

Not customer friendly reception. It will take a while before we get the card. All subsequent actions take a long time. My companion gets his food and it takes another 15 to 20 minutes before I get my first dish. There was no joint dinner for us. this restaurant is not worth repeating

I have been overseas for almost ten years. Because I have always had an Asian stomach, I have been to countless restaurants in Asia, especially Chinese restaurants. I have always treated every experience with an open mind. Because I have seen a lot, I have been treated to some things that are not worth it. Things that are discriminatory or not are usually laughed off, but today I couldn't help but open the mic. This Cantonese restaurant is decorated in a strong old-fashioned style. It treats Chinese people (especially those who speak Mandarin) obviously differently. treat , all kinds of indifference, the waiter was indifferent from beginning to end, taking the initiative to say thank you without even raising his eyes. When he was about to check out, he looked at the waiter and thought maybe he was overthinking it, so he gave me another chance and gave a friendly gesture. , was still ignored, and finally went out. The cashier who just collected the money turned around without saying a word. It was completely different from the way we knelt down and licked the foreigner while eating. It was so obvious that you don’t want to think about the difference in treatment. no way. I didn’t give it one star because the food itself is unfair. It’s located in the corner of a large shopping mall opposite Ute train station. The prices are honestly not cheap. Three small plates for two people cost 60 euros. The roast duck was served. After taking a bite, it was very cold and asked them to warm it up a little. At first, I was not happy to say that it was just like this. It was hard to find a way to spend money, so it was better to just eat something to keep yourself from being hungry like the Dutch, just for the purpose of shopping. In short, I would like to advise everyone who is in a similar situation to me to go to Shenyuan, at least don’t spend money to cause trouble for yourself~

Me and my boyfriend regularly eat at Tai Soen in Utrecht, and it's great every time. The dishes are super tasty and there is a lot of choice. The dumplings in particular are fantastic! There are all kinds, such as steamed or fried, and everything always tastes fresh and well prepared. What we also like is that you can try many other tasty dishes besides dumplings. The menu is very extensive, so there is something for everyone. Our favorite to drink with it is the Chinese ice tea. It is really delicious and goes perfectly with the food. The restaurant itself is cozy and the staff is always friendly. It just feels very nice to be here, whether you come to eat together or with a group. If you like tasty and varied food, Tai Soen is highly recommended!

Busy restaurant, not really decorated in a Chinese style, upon entering you immediately see the ladies washing the dishes, confusing...

Xingzhou Carrot Cake only comes with eggs and chopped green onions, but no bean sprouts. There are usually two glutinous rice chickens in a cage, but there is only one here. The bean curd roll filling is sufficient, but the sauce is bland. The soy sauce chicken is really dry and bland. The silver needle powder tastes good, but it tastes cold when served. The service is good, all warm and friendly.

Food tastes really bland Steamed bread you had no taste at all, it really doesn't taste like chicken, especially the first photo, there is barely any filling in it, large but not well filled. Bacon with rice had a reasonable taste, meat was not really crispy, who gives a customer the fat edges of a bacon Shrimp bottles were too sticky. I thought to myself that maybe it would be a bit tasty after all for the third time. But not really a bad taste. I won't go there again, neither will my mother. It is gas friendly.

Highly recommended for Dim Sumen in the afternoon. Tasty snacks, quickly on the table. The restaurant is full of Chinese Dutch people, so you know you're in the right place. Smooth and businesslike operation, just as it should be. It would be nicer if they would mention which dish is always on the table, you can't always see that yourself. Cherish this authentic Chinese restaurant!!

The staff did their best, but fell short. It was very busy, as there are not that many Chinese restaurants in Utrecht. That resulted in a long wait and a very lukewarm tomato soup and then after a long wait in a very lukewarm Babi Pangang, which was tasty in itself. But after this experience I will no longer take another step over the threshold.

I am Taiwanese and certified delicious! The fried rice is delicious, but a little pricey, which relieves the nostalgia.

There are not much dimsum options in Utrecht compared to Amsterdam or Rotterdam. If not, I would have tried another dim sum place Unfortunately me and wife both had food poisoning. This was my 4th visit in the last 12 months and I guess it was plane unlucky. I think the meat was rotten. Food / price / Quality is out of balance. 10% lower would do more justice or fresher food. Service is good. Place is a bit outdated. Toilets are dirty.
