Thai Restaurant Rung in Centrum

I've been here a few times over the past few years and finally decided to share my experience. The food is fantastic! But the owner was truly unfriendly. Once, due to parking issues, we were about seven minutes late. We weren't allowed back in. Okay, okay... it happens. But last time, I consulted the staff and chose a dish. The waitress had accidentally written down the wrong one. When it was brought, I politely pointed this out. Unfortunately, it was about the only flavor I really didn't like. Otherwise, I would have simply accepted it (don't complain, it happens). But... I couldn't get another dish, and the owner even had to pay for it! I refused, and in the end, the waitress offered to pay for it herself. I don't know if she actually had to... But I was able to get a bowl of spring rolls (which I had to pay for, of course), and that was my dinner. Now I'm done with this unfriendly owner. It's a shame, because the food is so delicious!

Great food, but it was busy so food came slower than expected. Still a really good experience, great tasting food, unique flavors. Recommended if you are looking for a great Thai cuisine.

You can certainly enjoy good food here, but for a successful evening where the staff and hospitality are also important, you're better off going elsewhere, and that's precisely what makes it a great evening. Besides, you're not in the right place here. I called to see if they had a table for five before 6:30 PM (not an absurdly unusual dinnertime, I think?). According to the owner I spoke to on the phone (who's a real gem anyway), this was fine, but we had to be gone by 8:30 PM at the latest. This seemed rather odd, as it seems easy to finish just a main course in two hours. Three of us arrived earlier than the indicated time, and we were given a table. The staff seemed very stressed and quite under the thumb of the boss, as the young man who helped us came at 6:15 PM to ask if we couldn't call our other tablemates to ask if they already knew what they wanted to eat. After all, you expect us to read out four pages of dishes over the phone, right? The guy then came back five more times to ask if they were almost there and that we had to order at 6:30 sharp. At exactly 6:31 (phew, they gave our tablemates that extra minute to arrive), we were told we could leave because we hadn't ordered enough and weren't ready yet. I don't agree with the saying "the customer is king," but this is beyond me. It's more like "the customer should be happy with what they get." Unfortunately, Rung, five guests who will never set foot in this restaurant again. It might be a good idea to see if you can take a social skills course; it wouldn't hurt.

Hi everyone, we come here from Germany at least once a week and it's always delicious! One of the best restaurants in the world :-)

Tip! Reserve a table if you want to eat here. Because if you just ask inside if there's a table available, that's practically a death sentence... you'll be keelhauled, simply unheard of! We felt so welcome when we asked this that we'll go to a different restaurant next time. According to AI, the restaurant's starting point is: "usually to offer a welcoming environment where customers can enjoy quality dishes and pleasant service." The dishes at this restaurant are absolutely delicious! But just be kind to your fellow man. Treat others as you would like to be treated. That's my absolute tip! Live is short, keep it simple.

The food here is delicious. I've been coming here for years. Unfortunately, they're not trying to improve the restaurant itself. There are terrible acoustics, bright/flickering lights, and a menu that lists a dish with dried shrimp, for example, while stating it's vegetarian. They also close really early for a restaurant (8:30 PM) (no, not the kitchen, but the restaurant itself), and you feel like you're being chased out if you arrive around 6:30 PM. We had just finished our main course and had to decide whether we wanted desserts. And halfway through our main course, we had to decide whether we wanted coffee or tea because the machine needed cleaning. We were initially told we'd get our coffee right away, which surprised us, as we were still in the middle of our main course. We finally got our coffee the second our plates were cleared. We left feeling rushed. You want to relax and enjoy yourself in a restaurant. Unfortunately, they're taking off a few stars; we're not all that enthusiastic anymore.

Restaurant was 70% empty, it was 6:30PM. We had a reservation, and 2 of the other guests were late for 10 minutes. In these 10 minutes we were asked 2 times about the other guests, scolded they are late and told we mess up the restaurant schedule, served drinks and asked 2 times about what food we want to order. We kindly explained we would like to wait a bit to order but the staff started arguing with us. Other guest there were also looking dissapointed about the place. We paid and left after 10 minutes with almost untouched drinks. It was the worst customer experience I ever had in a restaurant and I will never return here.

What a bad experience here, absolutely nothing was right and the food was also very bad.

We were really rushed by the boss. I was a bit late than the rest of the group, so I didn't have time for an appetizer. The staff was friendly, but also seemed rushed. We were told several times that we had to be out by 8 p.m. at the latest. The food tasted just like a fresh coconut milk package from Jumbo, so it was tasty, but for 6 euros with a bonus card, I could make the same. The rushing was especially frustrating. I won't be back.

It was supposed to be 3 stars, but after the owner's reaction, I'm only giving it 1. He's a total liar. And reading more reviews, he's often calling customers liars. I was here on Saturday, September 6th. I reserved a table for 7 p.m. The restaurant was already quite empty. I noticed that because I'd been coming here 30 years ago, and back then, they were hanging out of their seats, it was so busy. Anyway, I figured it was already a bit later than the usual Dutch dinner hour. The food we ordered was truly delicious. Nice and spicy, a wonderful Thai flavor explosion. The fish cakes as a starter were truly delicious. And the main courses were impeccable. The service was friendly. But then, at 8:45 p.m., we were asked if we wanted dessert because the kitchen was about to close (the restaurant closes at 10 p.m. on Saturdays). No problem, we thought, but instead of dessert, we wanted a cup of coffee. You'd think we'd have plenty of time before closing. Well, no way, because the owner had already cleaned the coffee machine. So, no more coffee. And we weren't the last table. I find it outrageous that you can't get a cup of coffee at 8:45 PM because the owner has already cleaned it. I've read many reviews with similar experiences. My friends also experienced something similar in this restaurant. I hope the owner reconsiders his hospitality. Because no matter how delicious your food is, you'll end up with fewer and fewer customers because, in my case, you can't get coffee more than an hour before closing time, but also because of how customers are sometimes treated. So, owner of Rung, don't give another rude remark to the customer, just take a look in the mirror yourself!! And start caring about the hospitality industry again. Just a quick response to your comment. It's not very nice to blatantly lie to a customer who is telling the truth. WE COULDN'T GET COFFEE AT 8:45 PM BECAUSE YOU HAD ALREADY CLEANED THE MACHINE. The waitress also felt very uncomfortable telling us this. This reaction from you is so sad!!! I won't be eating at your place anymore.

Normally I don’t like sushi, but they made me fall in love with sushi.

Food is delicious, many different dishes which are worth trying.

We have been coming to Rung for years. Every time you come home. Delicious food just like in Thailand. Sweet and friendly service. Atmosphere was good. My favorites at Rung are Massaman and green curry. Rung is for us "the best." Keep it up. I am proud of Aoi and Eddie. 2 sweet people what they have achieved so far. I would like to come back.

Reception was friendly. We had made a reservation. We were seated at a table next to the toilet. This turned out to be a temporary table and it only became clear to us later, due to the language barrier. We had to wait there for a while, but we were given the menu and were allowed to make a choice. When we wanted to order, we were told that they no longer had the menu because it was too late and busy 🤔. The waitress immediately walked away after she reported this. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave. We even gave a tip and put it in the box that contained the receipt. We left the restaurant disappointed. We were standing outside, an angry man (owner?) rushed after us and shouted across the street that we were on camera, that he would send the images to the police 'because you didn't pay'! and waved an empty box. When we reacted in amazement and pointed to where we had sat and paid, the man the owner apologized and left. UN-BELIE-ABLE, to be accused of theft like that, it was humiliating. We will tell this and they will never see us there again in any case.

We arrived very spontaneously, but despite it being very busy, we were invited in. We received our first drink at a waiting table and were then shown to our seats. The service was very good, friendly, and attentive, and we really enjoyed the food! The prices were absolutely reasonable; it's not a snack bar! Highly recommended in every respect!

Decent Thai restaurant in Arnhem. The taste is good enough but sadly the it was not spicy for us (maybe lowered spiciness for the market)

This restaurant is not in order. Very rude staff, they constantly walk away from you in the middle of taking your order, to tell you at the end, sorry but we don't have that anymore. And if you say something about this they get aggressive.

The staff is very antisocial, while we are trying to order she walked away 8 times the menu has over 100 choices that are then not available afterwards. If you address the staff that they are walking away you get a rude snow after. We left.

Went there on May 9th, and the service was horrible. They kept insisting we need to order quickly because they have a big group coming. Service was horrible. We ordered veg thai dumplings and it was the worst we’ve had. Never going back there.. its the worst customer service i’ve ever experienced.

Heel vaak in Thailand geweest. Dit is thuiskomen. Prima personeel. Reserveren is bijna verplicht. En anders kun je altijd nog afhalen.

Good food, but more of a Dutchized Thai. The spicy was not spicy at all. Rest of the food was a bit too sweet. Not what I'm used to anywhere in Thailand, but it makes up for that with the friendly staff.

The boss and I went back to Rung after a few months. I most say...if you love a characteristic and cozy place....you'll love Rung. Service is ( as always ) on point. Waitresses are polite, kind and also sharp. The food...the best part...see pictures! Very good! I had a soup: Tom Kha Thalae, the boss had the fish cookies: Tom man Phlaa. My soup was very - very good! It was a perfect balance of al the spices and vegetables...Perfect! The fish cookies where very tasty. Just a bit to oily for our taste...but good enough to enjoy. But then to the main courses.... The boss had the Phlaa raad Phrik ( whole fish in red curry ) And I had the Panaeng Neua ( beef with egg plant en coconut juice in red curry ) My dish was good. Nice and spicy as shown in the menu ( two peppers ) The beef was a bit on the harder side! But overall a very good and balanced dish. Then I tasted the dish of the boss....and I was again in love with the Thai kitchen! The fish was butter soft and spiced well balanced. You could taste every spice and vegetables in the dish. The curry was nice and sweat with a bit of spice in it! Perfectly done!!! We also took deserts. I had icecream Rung ( different fruit with different ice cream and whipped cream. The boss had pineapple ( but took it without whipped cream ) Then our coffee and fresh Jasmin tea! We enjoyed every bite and sip! Rung has always been one of my favourite Thais restaurants in Arnhem. The atmosphere is cosy and makes you feel like a Thai family invited you at their home! Staff is polite and service is more then excellent! The prices are in balance with your dishes. You get more than enough food ( and I can eat a lot!!!) Rung will see us again...very soon!

For the food I would immediately recommend this restaurant to everyone!! However, don't expect a long evening of dining or much hospitality. We ate here on a Monday evening and felt very rushed. We were repeatedly told to order quickly. Especially if we wanted to eat certain dishes. The restaurant closes at 9 p.m., but the lights were turned off in part of the restaurant at 8:30 p.m.

Unexpectedly walked into Rung's. Extremely hospitable service. It is a family business that is proud of its Thai culture. This translates into authentic, high-quality Thai dishes. The food was excellent!

As a Thai, I have been coming to this restaurant for years and I recommend everyone who is in Arnhem to eat here. But unfortunately we had such a bad experience with the aggressive owner that we will NEVER come again. We had made a reservation for a group of 10, we had to be there at 5:30 PM sharp. Because 4 people were 5 minutes later, we already ordered the starters so that we didn't waste any time. Nevertheless, the owner was mega aggressive and super unreasonable about 4 of our guests being 5 minutes late.

We were here for dinner at 7pm on Saturday evening. The audience consisted mostly of bars that, like us, had made reservations. The wait wasn't long, everyone got their main course quickly. The food was great and plentiful. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Service was good and friendly. We'd love to come back.

De 1e keer in dit restaurant met Thai Food gegeten. De Ruiterstraat ligt om de hoek van De Jansplaats Arnhem- centrum. Reserveren is aan te bevelen. Super gastvriendelijkheid. Heerlijke gerechten met of zonder vlees. Zeer acceptabele prijzen. Hier komen al jaren trouwe gasten. Wij hebben heerlijk gegeten. Keuze genoeg met de ' pepertjes' ter aanduiding: mild pittig, pittig of heel pittig. De kok maakt graag een praatje met de gasten en een bezoek aan de open keuken mag gewoon!

I come here for the delicious food, never disappointed. There is some room for improvement in terms of atmosphere.

Excellent meal, attentive service

I noticed the patron repeatedly screaming at his staff. The waitresses, as a consequence, intimidated, scared (and sometimes close to tears) run around like headless chicken. I'm outraged by the toxic and misogynistic behaviour of the owner.

Have visited RUNG a couple of times but yesterday was my last visit. The 'boss', owner or man in charge has developed a way to treat his employees that is toxic and disgust me beeing and employer myself. Poor ladies working there! I do wonder indeed how that goes along with the high standards of Dutch labor laws... - as much as I like the authentic food that realy destroyed it for me.

We arrived at 20h00 but unfortunately, we were sent out again because the kitchen was already closed. This was disappointing because both, homepage and google say that the restaurant is open until 22h00.

We had made a reservation for 8 people at 6 p.m. and 4 were present and had to wait for colleagues. We were looked away, we had to order quickly. Staff members were very stressed because colleagues arrived a little late due to overtime (35 minutes). Then the manager/boss came and told us in an unkindly aggressive manner that our colleagues had to hurry up, otherwise they would no longer take orders. Drinks were ordered for context. Never before approached in such an unpleasant manner in a restaurant. I would never eat here!!!!!

Delicious food, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. You can taste that the food is prepared with love. You can eat very well there if you eat vegetarian or have dietary requirements. The food is delicious, with refined flavors, the service is friendly and correct. Only the owner unfairly snaps at the girls. If you say something about it, he walks away saying that he doesn't care about how customers experience it. When I got home, I called him again to say that I found his attitude unacceptable and transgressive. Then he hangs up... The problem clearly lies with the owner himself. Such a shame that he can't look at himself.

The food was very tasty and the service was friendly and personable. The ladies were elegantly dressed, very beautiful. The atmosphere was very pleasant. There were three of us and we all thought the same about it. We will definitely come back here.

Heerlijk Thais eten. Halverwegen het diner vragen of wij aan een ander tafeltje willen zitten kan ècht niet!

Ik kreeg de tip van een in Arnhem woonachtige collega. Rung is voor de Thaise keuken fan een hele goede keuze, zo niet de beste. Wat een heerlijke smaken, je waant je even in Thailand, prachtig verzorgde en lekkere schotels, heerlijk! Prijs kwaliteit is heel dik in orde. Aardig personeel, we komen zeer zeker terug!

Heerlijk gegeten. Vooraf viskoekjes en thom khaa talae. De soep was wat eenzijdig zuur van smaak, maar de hoofdgerechten kai phad kraphrouw en kaeng mussaman kai waren echt top! Het enig wat de beleving wat verminderde was de eigenaar(?) die de bediening de hele avond aan het afsnauwen was. Het was niet leuk om hier getuige van te zijn.

Tijdens het heerlijke eten en prima bediening, hoorde en zag ik de eigenaar zijn bedieningspersoneel uitkafferen. Ongelooflijk. Ik sprak hem daarop aan en zijn reactie; het interesseert me geen zak wat u daarvan vindt. Wat een ongehoorde reactie van een gastheer, naast zijn gedrag naar zijn medewerkers. Dit restaurant ga ik niet meer bezoeken en dat raad ik anderen ook aan.

NEVER AGAIN! Eigenaar bejegent zijn bediening respectloos in bijzijn van gasten. Eigenaar voldoet aan ‘nachtmerrie’ Aziatisch stereotype manager: lekker personeel uitschelden, ksssjt roepen, slaande beweging maken alsof ze dieren zijn terwijl ze erg hun best aant doen waren en prima werk leverden voor de gasten! Management by fear optima forma! Schaam je!!!! P.s. eten was prima, maar dat werd de grootste bijzaak!

Gisteravond heerlijk gegeten met een fijn gezelschap. Wat in eerste instantie een ontspannen gezellige avond leek te worden eindigde in een avond met een nare bijsmaak. De dames in de bediening allemaal even lief en goed in hun vak. De eigenaar daarentegen gedroeg zich onuitstaanbaar tegenover zijn personeel. De dames werden en public gekleineerd en behandelt als voetveeg. Ik kom hier nooit meer terug!

Geweldig lekker eten met goede service

Erg goede Thai met authentieke smaken. Mijn favoriete gerecht is de Yam hed, een - vegetarische - Thaise salade met gefrituurde oesterzwam. Meestal gaan we in het restaurant eten, maar soms halen we er ook af en dat is ook altijd prima!

Lekker gegeten bij Eddie, veel voor lage prijs. Hartstikke lekker!

Warto próbować kuchnie świata. Świetne jedzenie tajskie. Szkoda , że na główne danie czekaliśmy ponad 30 minut.

Het eten is zeer goed , zoals ik gewend ben wanneer ik jaarlijks in Thailand verblijf. Er wordt rekening gehouden met de wensen van de cliënt ( pittig of niet ) lieve en hulpvaardige eigenaars die ook meewerken in hun Restaurant, kortom top .

Prima verse Thaise maaltijden. Veel keuze voor vegetariërs en veganisten. Altijd goede constante kwaliteit, smakelijk en heel heel erg vers! Aanrader!

ik kom hier al minstens 10 jaar en het is nog altijd heerlijk om hier te eten! Verse originele thaise ingredienten, Singha bier, lekker pittig, ook veel vega(n) en goede prijs kwaliteit!

I went for dinner. It had a very good ambiance. The food was amazing. They had a good amount of vegetarian options. Massaman curry was very tasty. There were 2 young ladies serving. They were friendly. Since the dish I ordered takes time to cook, they asked me if it was ok. They kept a rectangle candle holder to warm up the plates. The dishes were also kept on them to keep it warm. Here, they accept NL bank cards or cash. They do not accept master cards (also from other EU countries). Maybe they could mention this in the menu so that its not a surprise at the end for the new customers.

Ik vond het tegenvallen. De sfeer is niet echt gezellig. De loempia met rijstvel smaakte nergens naar. De curry was saai. De rijst te lang gekookt en je kreeg er te weinig van.

Altijd lekker en met verse producten. Maaltijden zijn prima.

Wir fahren immer wieder aus Kleve nach Arnhem um dieses Restaurant zu besuchen . Das Essen dauert lange aber es lohnt sich wirklich zu warten . Perfekt zubereitete Thailändische Essen , sehr netter Besitzer und die Bedienung sehr aufmerksam und nett .Ich nehme immer den ganzen Fisch , das erste Gericht in der Menü unter Fisch und finde es absolut köstlich . Mein Mann nimmt immer was anderes und probiert alles aus und ist ebenfalls begeistert .Wir freuen uns jetzt schon auf unseren nächsten Besuch !

Ontzettend gezellige sfeer, vriendelijk personeel maar vooral ontzettend lekker eten. Een ware aanrader. Klasse 👍🏻

Top restaurant! Authentiek Thais! Heerlijk! Alles vers bereid, daardoor soms iets langer wachten maar dat mag de pret niet drukken als je het eten proeft...

Heel lekker vers eten. De eigenaar was zo aardig om ons toch nog een tafeltje te bieden ondanks alle reserveringen. Beetje jammer dat ze dat ene glaasje kraanwater voor de zesjarige in rekening brengen terwijl de rest gewoon drankjes drinkt.

Lekkerste restaurant in Arnhem en omstreken. Het eten duurt wat langer, maar dit wordt van te voren aangeven. Als je de tijd hebt, kan het hier niet mis gaan.

Uitstekend vegetarisch gegeten. Jammer dat we soms uitsluitend in het Engels werden aangesproken. Verder een absolute aanrader voor iedere vegetariër.
